"From the outside this place doesn’t look like much. You’ll notice an upside down McDonalds logo, a statement that W-Der Imbiss represents the complete opposite of the fast food industry. Inside amongst the tiki-inspired decor awaits unique dishes that combine elements from Indian, Mexican, Californian and Italian cuisines. For some this may sound like overkill but once you try the freshly made Naan bread, warm salmon or vegan burrito, you’ll leave your skepticism at the door and be making friends with salad." - Gabby Lord

"W - Der Imbiss Blink and you’ll miss this tiny Indian-run eatery serving eclectic international fare between Mitte and Prenzlauer Allee along the trendy Kastanienallee. Notable for its upside-down McDonald’s sign (hence the "W" in the name; Der Imbiss means "The Snack"), the restaurant consists of a service windowand a few brightly colored tables, and has quirky Hawaiian and African decor. The food is not only cheap and tasty but also healthy and diverse, pulling off an ambitious mix of Mexican, Californian, Indian, and Italian influences. It's most famous for naan pizzas—Indian naan breads baked in the venue’s tandoor, with pizza-esque toppings from olives and cheese to artichokes and salmon. The menu also includes filling Indian thali platters, soups and salads, and Mexican-style wraps."

Google
Amazing find! Food was affordable and absolutely delicious. Such great variety in a vegetarian menu which is great to see, would love to come back! We got two Thalis, the regular size is a very generous portion and delicious. Also, cheap and good tasting beer, beautiful interiors, friendly staff and quick service. Couldn’t ask for more!

Google
We ordered the maharaja thali and two separate stuffed nans. The food was delicious and flavourful. It gave a good combination of Indian food with a twist. The quantity is sufficient for 2 people to share. Would recommend trying their flatbreads!!

Google
The Naan was AMAZING and the grilled goat cheese too. Very cheap and worth the money

If you’re searching for an imbiss with delicious food and quick service, this is the place to go. Love coming here both during summer (nice to sit outside!) and during winter for a cozy meal. The thali portions are very generous. Fully recommend the cheese stuffed naan!! Note: they only take cash.

Google
This is my favorite hangover imbiss! I always get the same thing and its their amazing Fish Tacos! It costs around 14 euros, but it is definitely well deserve. Big portion, fresh ingredients and amazing taste. Also comes with a big salad and three very well made sauces on the side, a spicy one, guacamole and sour cream. Must try for sure!

Google
Absolutely love this place, unlike other "hipster places" in this area, the service is super friendly and the food comes fast. We really enjoyed the environment and the lunch. Also sadly, Berlin becomes the capital of people aggressively pushing you for good reviews, AND THIS PLACE DOESNT do that, the staff is always doing a good job and delivering nice experience. You should visit w imbiss if you are in Berlin!! Check the soups and the garlic naan, omg.

Florian Thon

Google
Really liked this place (that’s why I give 2 instead of 1 star), but just today we had a bug (animal!) inside the olive tapenade of our naan pizza. This is disgusting and their hygiene really concerning.

Google
A very small place, great for Berlin enthusiasts, the dining area is relatively small, and it gets really loud when the place is full, but it's part of the experience I guess. The prices are quite cheap considering the location (Bezirk Mitte). The soup was perfect (a bit spicy as I like it), and the naan bread is freshly baked. It gets a bit warm inside after a while though and the seats are not quite comfortable.

Yelp
This was an Indian restaurant in Berlin with an upside down McDonald's emblem on its window, so it was easy to recognize. My cousin and I shared a platter recommended by the waitress. We thought it was supposed to have meat but we could only find very tiny pieces. It wasn't my favorite but I'd say it's definitely a unique place in that you can get Indian, Mexican, and Hawaiian food all in one place. It's a good place to check out.

Yelp
First Indian meal in Berlin and I was not disappointed! I ordered the Thali (€10), which consists of two different curries, basmati rice, potatoes, chutney, and naan. The portion size of the dish intimidated me, but I devoured that monster within a matter of minutes because it was so damn tasty. I was pleasantly surprised by the presentation and quality of the meal, especially after hearing that I should avoid Indian food and stick to the döners while in Berlin. Overall, I will definitely be coming back here when I eventually need to satisfy my craving for Indian food.

Yelp
Loved so much about this place! The location was super easy to get to, the neighborhood was adorable, and the food was really good. I'm a sucker for naan so I may be a little bias but I thought this meal was amazing. Their naan was super high quality for the price range. You're able to eat outside here, & I highly recommend doing so because you can't beat this environment. Please go here if you have the time!

Lukas A.

Yelp
Easy, simple but fresh and tasty food. Vegan and vegetarian. Not too many dishes. However enough to chose from. And again very fresh. Tables are in- and outside.

Nicole T.

Yelp
I come here 3 times a week and the food is delicious, but today the owner came and yelled at us for not tipping. My family is in town from America and not only do they tip, but they tip like Americans (usually after our meals). He took the time to walk out to our table and yell at us in front of the entire restaurant for not tipping. We were going to, but clearly didn't after that. So rude and off putting for a place I frequent.

Kelly C.

Yelp
LOVED this tiny little eatery in Prenzlauer Berg. We stopped as part of a food tour and had the pizza with guacamole "sauce" and the dirty naan. Both delicious and both large portions. There was a case for cold drinks (beer included). Seating both inside and outside. Great lunch spot for sure.

Sori K.

Yelp
Like here. Food was good. My vegiterian friend also liked lot. Food portion is quite big.. if go with 2 people order 1 dish is enough.. 3people then 2 dish... order one dish less then u would have better review. I went there total 4 people, ordered 4 dishes . We could.not finish .....

Dan M.

Yelp
Always love the curry in a hurry or the salmon tacos! Self service and ample outdoor seating. It can be super busy at lunchtime.

Mohammed G.

Yelp
I am no vegetarian but the place is surprisingly good. I've tried their Thali which was actually very filling (and being a hardcore carnivore, I rarely feel so if I eat a vegetarian meal). The Naan breads are very, very well prepared and tasty. Vegetarian or not, I recommend this place.

Liza B.

Yelp
I can't support the positive buzz around this place. My tofu teriyaki was very salty, and that's it. The portion size is fine, but believe me, you can get a much better vegan meal for 8 euros.

Javier E.

Yelp
Funny and peculiar little place in Mitte/Prenzlauer Berg. Perfect place to have some cool indian fussion food. Last time we ordered the naan pizza with salmon and was completely delicious. We will come back!

Peter H.

Yelp
Amazing good food and especially compared to the other Indian restaurants around. Nice crew and neighbourhood. We love to go there.

Ryan M.

Yelp
Cozy and quirky spot with really great curry. I had the pleasure of going twice for lunch while on business in the neighborhood. It's easy to see how the soup + naan would be a go-to in colder months.

Meh M.

Yelp
Not sure what the big deal is about this place. My boyfriend and I went last night and ordered the tasting menu, which was priced at 15€. When the dude saw there were two of us, he jacked the price up to 20€. Ok, whatever. That with two sodas = 25€. What we got was definitely not worth the price. 1. We essentially ordered a measly pile of couscous, a bean quesadilla (not sure how this is Indian/Thai/whatever the restaurant is supposed to be), two tiny pieces of salmon, two dips, and a wrap that was filled with salad and pretty much inedible. 2. Nowhere on the menu did it say what was actually on the "tasting menu." 3. Nowhere on the menu did it say that if you were a party of 1+, you would have to pay more. I wouldn't come back here and wouldn't recommend it to anyone, not only because the food sucks/TOTALLY expensive, but I have no idea what the food here is supposed to be. Total fail.

Yelp
Must Try! I was recently traveling through Berlin + stopped by Der Imbiss for the Naan + Lentil soup and OH BOY was it amazing! For $10 I had enough food for 3 meals, this was by far one of my favorite restaurants in Berlin + oh so tasty!

Aruna A.

Yelp
W Der Imbiss is definitely not one of those places a TON of tourists are flocking too. It's one of those places you have to find deep in your guide book, but when you do find it, you are more than impressed. It' was fantastic. My friends and I decided to head here after reading about it in Lonely Planet, and when we walked in, we were hit with the GREAT smells! It smelled like heaven. There are a LOT of great Indian options from Naan Pizza to thali to dosa. I tried the naan pizza with olive tapenade, parm cheese, and arugala - and it was HUGE. The serving sizes here are really big for the price (great bang for your buck). I even took mine home and finished it the next day. Definitely trek here if you can - but be warned, it's a tiny space!

Erin B.

Yelp
Went last night & very strange, but fun place. Unusual vegetarian fusion dishes, that were surprising like naan pizza. Some things (like the wrap) were style over function as it really was impossible to eat & I just ended up taking it apart & eating it like a salad. Cost was fine, but the wrap again wasn't a great value. Our naan pizza & wrap were each 6-7 euro and did us okay for the night. Space is incredibly cosy with oddball 70's tiki decor. It was a funny little place that we enjoyed, but not necessarily a must go.

Yelp
I live just down the block (for the summer anyway). I've been by a few times, and the anti-McDonald's logo caught my eye, so I finally decided to stop in the other day with some friends. The menu is, as stated by other reviewers, a sort of weird fusion menu. However, the quesadilla I had was fantastic. Very well done, with a perfect gooey black bean and cheese filling. It was fairly spicy too. I returned tonight and had the fish tacos. They were a bit pricey, but for a plate of 4 large fish tacos on a bed of tasty salad greens, 10 euros isn't that bad I guess. (Although, I have to say I don't understand why the tacos were served skewered on a kebab stick.) Anyway, this is one of my favorite places in Berlin so far. It's quite a bit tastier than a lot of other places on the block. I'll definitely be back.

Mikey S.

Yelp
The food's delicious. The atmosphere's cozy. The service quick. The prices reasonable. What more could one ask for? A hard to categorize vegan-indian-hipster place to get some tasty naan pizza in the heart of prenzlauer berg. Recommended.

Chris F.

Yelp
A dirty naan here makes for a large, deliciously spicey Ubersnack. This eatery has a unique vibe to it and by the look of the other punters food, it is somewhere I need to come back to. Decent prices too. Qype sticker in the window!

Rashmi S.

Yelp
Delicious Indian fusion food! Love the idea of combining the rich and spicy flavors of Indian food with Western presentations like wraps and pizzas. Menus come in English and German. The space is tiny, cozy, and a great place for a casual lunch. My friend and I got got the Swami Burger (which is actually a wrap) and a couple of naan pizzas and loved everything we ate!

Adi J.

Yelp
Amazing restaurant! There's never a time I would say no to go here! Their food is truly Indian and is so delectable! A treasure for locals! One should go here to see what the tourists are missing out. The street on which the restaurant is located is also a very nice street. It has many bars where people can go and get drinks. Also very good for a simple walk. A must visit in my opinion.

Robert K.

Yelp
Super cool, super small spot near Mitte. If you need tons of meat on your plate this place is not for you. However, the salmon is cooked to perfection and the veggie/vegan dishes are also very good. I am a huge meat lover myself but I would definitely come here again (if I wasn't so busy trying other places). I strongly recommend the taster's menu which features a bit of everything.

Justice T.

Yelp
The tasting plate was generous portion size for two people. We really liked the flavors of all the Indian dishes. The black bean quesadilla was delicious too. Some dishes were a bit too salty for us. That's the reason I gave it a four star instead of five.

Marcus A.

Yelp
A lot of tastes mixed up, some get completely lost, like the artichoke or guacamole. Great bread though.

Yelp
Gordon the Scharfmeister: This is a very interesting experience. Don't be fooled wih the outside looks.. go inside an better ask Gordon to suprise you fish is his main thing. Forget the menu, give Gordon carte blanche just say him your level of sharpness tolerance ;-) And TIP is not a place in China.. mind you.

Qype User (andrea…)

Yelp
Best Indian food in town. After living in London for 10 years, the city with the best Indian restaurants, I was hunting for an authentic delicious Indian in Berlin. And found this tiny place by chance. If you are seeking Indian heaven on earth, this little shoebox of a take away provides you with big taste sensations. I shall be back; once a week at least.

Lirik M.

Yelp
The vegan soup was amazing, spicy and fresh from good ingredients the service was great. I'm sure I will come back :)

Anna W.

Yelp
First English-language review! I wonder if it's because this place is so hard to find...however, regardless of any perils to English speakers, this place is worth it. What you get is a "pizza" comprised of gigantic made-to-order naan topped with almost anything you can think of. In my case, it was a mountain of spinach, sun-dried tomatoes, and goat cheese. Yum yum yum. Seating is pretty cramped inside, so you have to hunt for a spot on one of the benches. I imagine it's much easier in the summer, when it's warm enough to sit at the tables outside.

Anna H.

Yelp
Amazing food!! Totally vegetarian.. And it can be vegan friendly if you ask.. And you can easily find something for everyone! Great location too :)

Herbert F.

Yelp
Try the awesome and big Swami Burger!

Orit D.

Yelp
Don't really like tourists. After asking if the whole menu is vegan and getting a positive answer i almost got a fish course. The courses were large and tasty though.

Tom K.

Yelp
I liked this place overall. Bit small and menu is hard to navigate and understand but quality is good

Ra Hul S.

Yelp
Great food but for an "Imbiss" ie sans restroom is rather pricey. The fiis again is excellent and I eat there regularly. Very highly recommended also for tourists who want something fast and great. Don't try the usual stuff. Try the Indian "Thali" and Salmon tandoori. Though the owner is a bit arrogant. Overheard him complaining s few years about "I don't know what's wrong with Germans and not tipping" -- dear owner here in Germany we have better social services that don't let waiters etc rely solely on tips for income. He is cocky but if you ignore him is a good place.

William M.

Yelp
Eccentric, berlin experience. Indian, vegetarian fare. Enjoyed the tasters menu with lots of little cups of curried vegetables: cauliflower with coconut, potatoes with mustard seed, lentils, salmon, naan, vegetable wrap, etc.The coolest part is the wood oven next to the cash register where they throw the naan against the side and wait for it to puff up. This restaurant is somewhere between an imbiss or stand and a restaurant so don't expect much in the way of service. No plastic accepted - that's the berlin way, though. Limited and potentially stuffy seating inside - more room at the outside tables, weather permitting - can be cramped when busy. Nice staff. We will be back when in the mood for a basic, vegetarian, ethnic experience.

Yelp
This place has the best chili soup I had in Berlin and it's really cheap! I like it:)

Qype User (varmin…)

Yelp
Super cool completely non-traditional imbiss. Run by a garrulous, passionate American, and decorated with knick-knacks and paraphernalia from all over. I had the quesadilla and give it a thumbs up. Yummy black beans, fresh purple onions and lettuce, good tortilla. Huge serving size. They seem to do their most trade in a nan pizza, using nan dough cooked in their real tandoori oven, and served with spinach and cheese on top. Be aware that due to limited cooking space and a start from scratch approach, you may have to wait a bit. Inside space is very limited, but there are tables outside. Very convenient to the Zionkirche M1 tram stop.

Qype User (theher…)

Yelp
amazing food a lot for veggies great soups fresh stuff. Its some kind of srilankan/indian fusion food and leaves your belly smiling. there is nothing on the menu that is not a large and tastey portion. much better than the stupid bar next door!

Qype User (Smatt…)

Yelp
Overall, not bad. Inventive food and pretty tasty. My biggest complaint is that, in my opinion, they over cook their naan pizzas - I like it chewy. I tried the tandoori salmon, and thought it was good, too. Prices are higher than a normal imbiss, but still reasonable.

Qype User (Curryw…)

Yelp
The Thrill is gone.Angepasste Langeweile. Neue Anrichteweise als versteckte Preiserhöhung

Lee S.

Yelp
This was probably the best meal we had in one week in Berlin. Every dish was different and every dish was delicious. The standouts were the hearty lentil sou, the naan pizza and the Indian themed mixed dinner. Prices were ver reasonable, the atmosphere is typical for East Berlin (hip and funky) and the portions were enormous. Run! Don't walk to eat there.

Qype User (DeeinB…)

Yelp
Love this place; their thalis are tasty and the small one is big enough for a hungry lassie. Indian food is in general not great in Berlin, but here they do a couple of Indian dishes that are wonderful.

Qype User (srahu…)

Yelp
Great food. Indian food essentially. With a twist. The naan bread here is great. The salmon tandoori is brilliant. The owner is a bit cocky and arrogant Some remains I'd stemming from North America perhaps. But otherwise harmless. Great food though expensive I think.

Courtney D.

Yelp
Amazing!! Everything was super fresh and had tons of flavor. The staff was friendly, and accommodated our gluten free guest without complaint. The menu had something for everyone, some more traditional Indian items, to naan pizza and some snazzy looking quesadilla item that a lot of people were eating. Would recommend this place, 100%!

Qype User (o-_-…)

Yelp
great stuff, a real fireplace where they bake the naan in, tasty fillings and all. i recommend the nan pizzas rather than the wraps, they are crispy and taste just fabulous. it's self service and you'll be called on the stereo, bit like at a station (think of a good nickname when ordering, always good for a laugh) you'll struggle to find something alike here.

Vikarm B.

Yelp
nice indian curry and hot rotis. must try
