Uncle Betty's Diner

Haven't returned for a while. I'm happy to see they still make doughnuts but only in two flavours: cinnamon or powdered sugar. The decor is modern with tables and some bar seating. Service was good, the waiter was friendly. Art is on the wall from local artists that can be purchased. I had the east coast Benny with smoked salmon Benny on a plain bagel with a side of home fries and side salad. Salad toppings were fresh and tasty, rare to actually get sweet berries: blueberries and blackberries. Benny was good, smoke salmon was standard. Only criticism was the bagel base was a little overdone, I missed when the Benny's used to be made with a doughnut. My food mate had the french toast and bacon. French toast was soft inside yet crispy and just enough sweetness that it did not need anything else. Betty compote was good and not too sweet. I had to try the doughnuts again. They were crispy on the outside yet soft and tasty inside. Better then when I remembered before. Cost: $16-19 depending on the dish. Reasonable prices for brunch. Overall, despite being far for me, will return for good doughnuts and good breakfast. Apparently the diner has cocktails at night...perhaps will check it out one night.

Atmosphere is nice but food is mediocre at best. Ultimate grilled cheese came with cold meatloaf and I’m not sure you can call it “grilled” cheese if the bread is soggy and not even lightly toasted. French fries are greasy and soggy. Get the home fries instead - they don’t have much flavour but they are at least cooked well. Don’t order anything with Hollandaise sauce - they make it in batch early in the morning and then it goes in the fridge. Ours came stone cold, even though they supposedly heat it back up. “Freshly squeezed OJ” is not actually freshly squeezed on site. Rather they have a supplier (similar to buying Tropicana at the grocery store). Only redeeming item on the menu is the pancakes which are fluffy and tasty and came out hot. Extra charge for real maple syrup though.

A great spot for a vibe between a diner and brunch place. Food is delicious - the French toast was cooked perfectly and not too sweet, and the grilled cheese was unique with macaroni and ground beef. The service however is a little slow, despite being a relatively small space.

Came here on a Saturday morning, wait wasn't bad at all - about 15 minutes for 2, however, overheard that larger group of 6 had could take about 45. Not the best layout for large groups but they will definitely try to accommodate you. As for the food, what we tried was amazing. My wife and I shared the breakfast bowl (which I was told is only available on weekends) and the stuffed French toast. Both were savoury and hit the spot. Coffee was fine, and we tried a donut afterwards - didn't have a huge selection of donuts left at that time and it was just OK.

The donuts are a cake style treat that resembles an old fashioned donut, but topped with decadence!

It was disappointing. I have wanted to come here for quite some time and while the location was lovely and the service was friendly, the rest was subpar. I ordered the breakfast hash and specifically requested that my poached eggs be "easy" as I like them runny. The first order was covered in hollandaise not chives as per the menu. They sent out a 2nd order, no hollandaise yet no chives either. The sweet potatoes were undercooked and there was no flavor. I had coffee with my meal only everyone seemed to forget to see if I needed a refill, so I never got one. Maybe should have tried the french toast instead; sadly cannot recommend.

I had a mediocre to poor experience on my first visit here. I approached a staff who was cleaning tables outside and asked if dogs were allowed on their patio. She said she was not sure and would need to confirm with someone inside. She continued to clean tables so my partner and I waited. After a couple minutes I became impatient and asked a different staff member. Dogs were allowed on the sidewalk tables, so we grabbed one. The restaurant was not very busy - maybe a half dozen tables were occupied. The staff were very preoccupied by cleaning tables (not that anyone was waiting for a clean table to be seated) and it did not seem like anyone was eager to take our order. I eventually flagged down another staff and asked if they could take our orders. My partner and I ordered a milkshake, icecream float and a waffle. The milkshake and float were very good, but felt a little overpriced for the size of the drinks. The waffle never arrived and the server provided us the bill as we were finishing our drinks. We were told we could pay whenever and there was no need to rush. I was excited to try this restaurant but the service was poor enough to leave me disappointed. The staff was very young and seemed to prioritize their cleaning duties over customer service, as if they were eager to finish their shift ☹️

It's a small friendly place. Good service, good food portion. Got their black raspberry thunder ice cream, 😍 I love that they add some small white chocolate chips in it. It's a place you need to try at least once.

A nice neighborhood place with a nice amount of outdoor seating! Great tunes and quaint atmosphere. Food took a while to come although it was tasty! Clean washrooms downstairs A nice family breakfast spot!

This place has so much potential to be better! I came here for a late Sunday brunch and got sat quickly. Service was fast and food came out quickly. The issue was the food and the tone of this place. It is in a prime location with not much competition - with some changes to the outdated decor, tables and chairs and some better lighting this place could be nice. The food was decent not great - there needs to be more diverse options and the hash browns were awful. Overall ambiance was 4/10 (good music), food was 5/10, service was 8/10 and price was 7/10

I've eaten at Uncle Betty's a few times now and I really like the ambiance. The food is pretty good and the service is quite friendly. I had their "Big Breakfast" and ordered my eggs over easy, my bacon extra crispy with a buttermilk pancake and home fries, no toast. When my food arrived, I received a chocolate chip pancake instead. Not a huge deal, but the time it took to take my plate away and bring it back without the pancake was too long. My eggs were a bit overdone, but the bacon was good. I did not like the home fries at all. Some were almost hard, but it was mostly the seasoning I didn't care for. Not sure what spice they used - maybe cumin? - but I didn't care for it. I'm a bit fussy with breakfast and prefer simple/traditional flavours on my potatoes. I wish they'd indicate that on the menu, as I would've gone for regular fries instead. Anyway, my dining companions enjoyed their food and I've had good meals here before, so I'll return for future visits. I just know what to avoid next time.

Came with my daughter for brunch. The three wait staff that we encountered were lovely! One tall gentlemen and two younger ladies. Daughter enjoyed her pancakes and fries. We left our stroller by at the door as requested while we were dining. When we were leaving, I moved the stroller into the aisle to get ready to leave. The manager/owner barked at us saying that we couldn't stay in the aisle for very long. At that point in time, I had moved the stroller into the aisle for **less than a minute** and I was clearly trying to buckle my daughter in. For a restaurant with a kids menu, you'd expect that management would understand that parents (and restaurant patrons in general) might need a minute in the aisle to gather belongings to leave.

Uncle Betty's Diner should really just pack up and give the premium location to a restaurant that actually gives a crap about customer service and quality food. So much negative attitude from the manager of this place....save your money, there are a ton of waaaay better diners to go to. All these low ratings clearly string together a narrative of....strong pass.

Since the new owners took over the vibe has really changed. We had stopped going for a while because the owners are so cold and unfriendly. We went back this weekend and found that the food is still good but the owners who were there did not speak to any patrons. Their lack of interaction is so different from the original owners that once again I will stop going there. After all the pandemic closures one would think that the owners would at least Smile at their patrons. There are a lot of other places grateful for the business now

So I've been to Uncle Betty's a few times in the past and I'll admit I wasn't blown away by their offerings. But I definitely saw a ton of potential, so when a brunch visit was suggested, I jumped at the chance to give the joint another chance. I'm so glad I did. After waiting about 15 minutes for a table, we were shown to a comfy spot near the back and I began perusing their brunch menu. I quickly landed on a ridiculous concoction that, if done right, had the potential to be seriously delicious: The Ultimate Grilled Cheese ("Real White & Yellow Cheddar, topped with a slab of our homemade Mac & Cheese, your choice of Pulled Pork or All-Beef Meatloaf & drizzled with our own Roasted Garlic Aioli Served with Fresh-cut Fries or Home Fries.") (I went with the Pulled Pork option and opted for Home Fries on the side.) The sandwich arrived a short time later and it looked glorious. It was the messy, melty masterpiece I was hoping it would be, and I tentatively took my first bite. Surely, I thought, it can't possibly taste as good as it looks. It was better. Everything in this sandwich worked. The pulled pork was tender and delicious (and certainly didn't taste like it had been sitting under a heat lamp), the mac and cheese was fresh and perfectly cooked, and it was all held together by a copious amount of ooey, gooey cheese. I mean, this thing was basically sandwich perfection. (Sure, I felt a little sick to my stomach all afternoon, but good lord was it worth it.) And although the 'wich arrived to the table piping hot, the home fries were room temperature (at best). But I couldn't possibly have cared less. All I cared about was cramming that delectable masterpiece into my mouth.

Worst customer service I have ever seen. Do not waste your time going here unless you want to be treated like a second class citizen. Despite the fact that many tables were empty, they made us wait 10 minutes to be seated. Standing with no menu, we left. I understand they are short-staffed, but common curtesy dictates that you seat your customers, so they don't have to stand for no reason whatsoever. Left a bad taste in my mouth! Tip #1: treat the customer like a king, and they will come back and give you positive word of mouth.

We were in the area, running errands and needed a place for lunch. We decided to let our daughter pick the restaurant and she chose Uncle Betty's as she has been here a few times before with her friends. This was a first time for my wife and I. The inside decor is nice and its clean. The service was friendly however, once it got busier, the one server, just couldn't do it all by himself, and things became less attentive. Large menu and lots of choices available. My wife went with the All Day Breakfast combo while my daughter went with the Chicken Strips with french fries. I went with the Spaghetti and Meatballs. The portions size were large but in terms of taste, we all felt that it was just okay. The Spaghetti had two large meatballs but they were bland. The sauce didn't add anything to the dish. The All Day Breakfast dish with eggs, sausage, home fries and toast was your standard diner fare. No complaints there. The best dish might have been the Chicken Strips as it was deep fried very well but still tender and juicy in the inside. Also, the shoe string fries were a bit salty but you could not stop eating them. I'm not sure if I would return for the food but I would like to try their ice cream and milkshakes. Horrible experience the waiter named Ramsay was rude. We went to restaurant on May11th.2023, after we ordered food we wait one hour and half, our food delivered wrong table and we did not get it. When we asked Ramsay when our food will ready to serve. He explained it is busy time if we can not wait, we can go. We try to tell him some of table mess the order. People waiting longer time and haven't get anything. Ramsay said he is going to call police if we are not leaving. It looks no manager work at this restaurant and operation is horrible mess. The owner is better know how bad the waiter work there and training them professional way service the customer.

This is a quaint little classic family friendly café style brunch and breakfast place that has everything you need. I have gone on several occasions and every time the food is great. Last time I went I had the western omelet and it was so good I didn't need any ketchup and I always need ketchup with my eggs. If that doesn't prove that this place is worthwhile to check out I don't know what will. Friendly staff, nice atmosphere, it is a great place

I have wanted to try Uncle Betty's forever. I remember seeing it on TV, and wanting to get the Ultimate Grilled Cheese that has Mac and Cheese and Meatloaf, for the ultimate comfort food. I'm not usually in the area, so when Covid hit and Uncle Betty's started offering delivery I made the plunge. My boyfriend and I both ordered the Ultimate Grilled Cheese with Meatloaf (you can also get sauteed vegetables or pulled pork), although it seemed a little pricey, when the food came it's a LOT of food. We easily got 2 meals each out of it. Unfortunately, for some reason both of our sandwiches came with 2 slices of meatloaf and no mac and cheese. I reached out to the restaurant on Instagram and they explained the error as a result of the food delivery app making it look like we wanted 2 portions of meat and no mac and cheese. I really appreciated them explaining what had happened. Don't get me wrong, the meatloaf and the grilled cheese were incredible, so it's not like we were disappointed. But we wanted to try the real deal Ultimate Grilled Cheese. About a month of so later, my boyfriend and I decided to try Uncle Betty's again for our perfect hangover comfort food. We again both ordered the Ultimate Grilled Cheese, and this time it came perfectly. So, so tasty. I look forward to being able to go to the restaurant in the future and continue to support local!

Quaint dinner at Yonge & Eglinton. Food: it was OK. We ordered the breakfast sandwich that comes on donut buns and I personally enjoyed it! Really cute but you have to essentially "build" your sandwich so other than egg and bread for $7.50 every topping and side dish is additional. I added fries as the side dish and my toppings were avocado and bacon. I'd get the sandwich again but I found the fries (and home fries) really HARD. The fries were a bit too crispy and the home fries were nicely seasoned but slightly undercooked. We also tried the omelette which had bacon and tomatoe. Really fluffy and came with rye toast. We didn't try the "You gotta eat here" food network reco. For what we paid, I wouldn't say it was worth it and you'd probably be able to find a better brunch spot in that area. Food was TERRIBLE! Came here for brunch, the atmosphere and decor are really cute, but that's where it ends. There was a hair in my milk (for my coffee). Pancakes were undercooked - raw dough inside and too sour. Seriously, how can the pancakes be bad? I'm lucky if I don't get food poisoning. Just saw that apparently I had a bad experience here in 2014 as well and apparently I've learned nothing. Will not be coming back this time for sure.

We arrived for brunch on a Saturday around 11AM. Uncle Betty's was full but we only waited about 5 mins to be seated. The atmosphere was quite lively with tables of families with kids, couples and large groups inside. Probably not the best place if you wanted to have an intimate conversation over breakfast but I enjoyed the energy of the place :) The menu had the usual brunch items - we selected the sweet potato hash and the lox special along with coffee and housemade donuts for our dessert. The service was good considering it was a full house. The food seemed to take longer than usual and the waiter did apologize for the delay. Luckily, there were frequent refills of coffee. We enjoyed our dishes when they arrived - I did find the lox and cream cheese combination to be a bit on the salty side and was surprised there was only one poached egg included. My friend seemed to enjoy the sweet potato hash. I will say I was disappointed with the donuts. I guess I was expecting them to be freshly made for us rather than just freshly made that day. Warm donuts would have been a nice way to finish the meal. All in all, I'd say it was a good local brunch spot. I'd go back, just not for the donuts.

This place, and every other place nearby that serves brunch, is packed on the weekends. I finally made it here on a weekday so I could avoid the lines. It was super empty in the middle of the week. I wanted to go because they are known for having a doughnut breakfast sandwich and that sounds disgusting. Also, they have a weird doughnut making machine, which is a fun little gimmick. Aside from these two things, it is not particularly noteworthy. The rest of the menu seems pretty standard. It's not a hipster diner and it's not an authentic diner. It's every other fake diner out there, which is a perfectly fine thing to be, but not worth waiting in line for on a beautiful Saturday. The doughnut sandwich was actually pretty good. Usually the mix of sweet and savory is not my thing, so my meh is a resounding success. If you arrive starving you'll want to get two (or three, I won't judge). Or just more doughnuts. Doughnuts are delicious.

Super cozy, retro, family style place! I came here for Sunday brunch, there was a line as per us usual but I got in pretty fast. The menu has all your brunch favourites and then some. I found the staff to be accommodating and friendly!!! Everything that walked by looked tasty and large portions. I was quite happy that the prices weren't bad and the size of the plates were hefty !!! I for sure will return, and get an entire portions of pancakes they were OH SO GOOD!! I actually would like to try everything.... mmmmmmm PS They don't take reservations.

Came here under the guidance of John Catucci. The interior is simple, clean enough with pretty friendly service. I ordered the ultimate grilled cheese which has macaroni and cheese and meatloaf stuffed into it. The idea sounds great, but the execution was underwhelming, dry mac and cheese (not cheesy at all) and the meatloaf was pretty flavourless. The side of fries were a bit undercooked as well. $17 for this? I am pretty sure I can make this at home with KD and it'd be loads better. You don't gotta eat here.

Love this TORONTO staple. We ate the meat loaf and was not disappointed. Great comfort food for a fall day! As John Catucci once said. "You gotta eat here"

Understaffed service and a bumbling kitchen made for a epic failure of a brunch. In fact, we never had brunch because our food never came... After almost an hour of waiting and constant reassurance that our food was coming, our waitress actually asked us what we were having. Apparently, the kitchen had "mixed up" a few orders and were struggling to keep pace... or maybe our order was simply mislaid... It's a shame that we did not have a chance to try the food, but I'm afraid Uncle Betty will not get another chance to impress.

Uncle Betty's has been on my radar for some time now. Finally decided to pull the trigger and try it out this weekend. Ordered the ultimate grilled cheese, consisting of white and yellow cheddar cheese, mac n cheese, and meatloaf, with home fries on the side. The grilled cheese was delicious. This is the dish to order at Uncle Betty's if you're a cheese lover. It was quite rich, so you really need to be in the mood for a heavy meal. Enjoy!

I was pretty excited to come here since they usually have good food but sadly we were disappointed. We ordered poutine and the cheese curds weren't even melted and mac and cheese wasn't a big portion. The kids version is even worse. Probably won't be coming back.

Uncle Betty's was one of a number of stops on my summer Ice Cream tour of Toronto. It was listed as one of the best in the city by some blogger who I've slowly learned knows nothing about ice cream. Sorry, don't write about it if you have no clue! Uncle Betty's ice cream fell right in the middle of the pile. It's not the worst and it's not the best. It's really just fine. I would go here again if I just happened to be in the area and also just happened to be dying for ice cream at that very moment. Otherwise, there are a good number of better options worth the extra travel to find. My various reviews will reveal the best this city has to offer!

Had the worst experience this morning. This was our first time returning to the restaurant since the start of the pandemic and we were looking forward to going somewhere we had enjoyed. My mother, daughter and I went in for brunch, were seated and then ignored for over 10 minutes. Eventually we placed our drink orders and then waited another 10 minutes for our 2 drip coffees, glasses of water and apple juice to be brought to our table (we still hadn't placed our food orders). In that time we watched as a couple that came after us was seated and placed both their food and drink orders while we were still waiting. When we expressed to the server that finally came to take our order our frustrations, his response was "What would you like me to do about it?" and "This is a public space, you are welcome to leave if you want." It is incredibly frustrating that not only did we experience terrible service, but then when voicing our experience to have it marginalized by the staff. I am not willing to put my child or mother through the experience of being mistreated by disorganized and rude staff, their former team was much better organized and respect to patrons.

Average diner. Not very big portions. Foods average. The server was fine.. Nothing special about this place at all! They do make their own doughnuts but I didn't even want to try them because the place is so over priced. The food was fine but like honestly we hardly got any home fries or toast.. It's alright. It's a brunch spot that seems to thrive off the fact that they were featured on some Food Network show. Normally would avoid spots like this, but it's a consistently busy spot in my hood, so we thought it would check it out. Surprisingly, we got seated immediately, but we were here mid-afternoon -- it's usually packed for weekend brunch. Service was prompt and the patio was pretty nice -- or you can hang out into the retro-kitsch dining area... again, it was on the Food Network with a 'goofy and zany' host... so it's rife with manufactured kitsch. Being me, I had to order the most ludicrous thing on the menu -- so I got the 'Ultimate Grilled Cheese'. It's sold as their 'specialty' which comes with white & yellow cheddar, topped with homemade mac & cheese, choice of pulled pork or all-beef meatloaf. It was better than I expected (though admittedly, I didn't have high hopes) -- I didn't think it justified the ~$16 price tag, but made a far better case than I expected. Had a bit of the lady's sweet potato hash (~$14, topped with 2 poached eggs and toast) -- again, tad pricey but definitely a step up from your typical greasy-spoon. We initially balked at the prices and the general vibe of the place - but it's not as bad as we thought it would be. We're obviously not their target demographic, but it's not bad at all.

I've only tried the ice cream here but my boyfriend absolutely loves it! He always gets the espresso ice cream which has espresso flakes in it. It's actually really good, especially for coffee lovers!

Great food and service. Have been there many times. Creative options. Great neighbourhood brunch spot. On the summer they have a good patio.

RUN AWAY ! bad service, bad food, greasy as hell, children everywhere yelling... a nightmare. We waited 1 hour for this horrible experience. I better have stayed home and cook my own breakfast. Waste of money

I lived at Yonge & Eg for almost 3 years before I discovered Uncle Betty's Diner, which is a cut above your average brunch place. I recommend the Breakwich with avocado and bacon. The sweetness of the brioche bun balances nicely with the other savoury ingredients and sharp cheese. I've had the same server each time I've come here, who is a very friendly and upbeat person, but everyone here is courteous and warm. They also make their own donuts, which are apparently really good - I have yet to sample them myself! I also want to try the Ultimate Grilled Cheese with mac & cheese and pulled pork.

Got some brunch with my girlfriend today, decided to dine-in and support a small business during COVID instead of order a takeaway at a chain restaurant. Food was decent, nothing special but the service was god awful. The server we had was rude, inattentive, and sloppy even though we were one of two tables on the patio this afternoon between 2:15pm to 3:30pm. When my girlfriend ask about what tea options they had, he rolled his eyes and said rudely, "We have them all." When she asked "Do you have mint or green?" His response was "Both. Just tell me what you want". We looked at each other and like jeez... was that such a big ask? So sorry to want to know what options there are since it's not listed on the menu. Terrible service didn't stop there. He never asked us of allergies or informed on anything we should know about our order. We had questions about the food when it came to the table, but he never stopped by to check in or refill our drinks/offer us water. Then at the end, after we paid and tipped, he remembered that he forgot to take our names for contact-tracing. When I started to spell my last name (since most places do require it) he said "Oh, don't bother, that's enough, I couldn't care less" ... All in all, I would give this place a negative rating if I could. I really wish I spent my money some place else this morning. Please DO NOT dine in here, it's not worth sitting in the cold for it. Do take-out or even better, take a walk right past it to another place to eat.

I didn't know what to expect when my friend tolde we were eating at a placed called "Uncle Betty's". I was very surprised though! The interior looked like a place that's more for kids, plus only families with young children were eating there when we arrived. I had the ultimate poutine thing, and did not enjoy it. Too many flavors in my mouth, and it was all greasy.. It was my own fault for going with the waiter's recommendation! My friends liked their food though, plus the waiters were super nice. However, don't think I'll be coming back any time soon.

Seemingly a local diner - they also serve hard ice cream (and soft serve I think) in addition to their diner-style atmosphere. When I had went, there was only one worker so it was an extremely slow service during the summer time and it was actually very hot inside the diner. Their ice cream I think was about $5 for a single scoop or so - though I find that most ice cream is now around this price, it's hard to find an ice cream that is justifying that price though. Either way, I consider it as supporting the local business. Overall it's okay - maybe would try their dining experience some other day

So we came here at 12:30pm on a Saturday. Waited 30 min to be seated. I ordered the eggs benny on a donut with a side of fries, and my boyfriend ordered the yam hash. My eggs benny was yum- the donut is what makes the difference. The fries on the otherhand tasted horrible. Weird texture, as if they were freezer burned, then fried, then left on the warmer for too long. My bf's yams were 75% burnt. Btw, its not hash in the typical sense. A better description would be yam home fries. (Aren't hashbrowns made with shredded potatoes? And not cubed?) So yeah, donuts are good... that's about it. Not worth the walk from Eglinton station. :/

Not good. The service was fine. The place was cute. Cute patio on the warm days. And far away enough from Yonge and Eglinton to not be caught up in the weekday hustle and bustle. The items were reasonably priced and on par with other places in the area. But the food was just not good. My coworker and I couldn't place it but something about the food was off and was simply disappointing. I got the UB donut with eggs and peameal bacon and a side of home fries. The home fries were the best part, but they were very salty and tasted old. Actually everything on my plate tasted not fresh and reheated. After I felt hungry and dissatisfied and a bit nauseated. I always wanted to try it and I had high hopes, but I wouldn't raise my hand to come back.

Wanting brunch on a weekend, we searched for the best brunches near us and found that Uncle Betty's was top rated and close by! We arrived around 1:50pm on a Saturday and had no idea that the kitchen closes for brunch... (Yelp doesn't say that!) so we nearly got turned away. Thankfully they were nice enough to let us in very quickly if we ordered within the next 8 minutes (seriously!). At 1:55pm, we got our orders in and were excited to eat! I ordered the Betty's Benedict since I've been on a bit of a poached eggs obsession. I guess I glazed over the menu since I didn't realize that instead of the eggs (instead of sitting on an English Muffin) were served on a donut. DONUT. SERIOUSLY?! It was really good. Super hungry, I managed to nearly finish my entire plate and share my homefries with my brunch partner. Pretty generous portions and decent pricing.. We also grabbed a donut to go, but maybe I'll just stick to brunch next time I'm here.

What a huge disappointment! The Yelp photos looking sooooo gooood tempted the tastebuds but the visit neutralized them. Fries were skinny and dried up, not a good companion to the "thimble-full" portion of gravy. BLT was OK but sloppily served on a plate, (had to reconstruct the sandwich myself as the toothpick didn't keep anything together). Service was lousy for 1 o'clock on a Fri afternoon. Patio patrons seemed content to be eating on the street beside rushing pedestrians and traffic but the atmosphere inside seemed gloomy. The floor was dirty (fork and fries under our table), lots of servers meandering about but unhappy. Honestly the diner had a very cold and unwelcoming vibe. 2 BLT's, 1poached eggs, 3 fries/gravy, 2 coffees served in demi-tass cups soaked us for 50 bucks! C'mon guys....for that price I'd like the other half cup of my coffee and a smile at least!

I visited Uncle Betty's for dinner a few nights ago for dinner with a girlfriend. It was just around 6 PM and the restaurant was pretty empty, maybe it was because they didn't have enough staff working (looked like it was only 2 in the front) but the service was still pretty slow despite the fact there weren't more than 4 tables full while we were there. I ordered a BLT and sweet potato fries and my friend ordered a grilled cheese w bacon & avocado and a salad. My BLT was good, but it felt small for the price. My fries were a bit undercooked. Uncle Betty's carries Kawartha Dairy and Ed's Real Scoop ice cream. So my friend and I opted for a flight of ice cream for dessert. This was supposed to be 3 mini-scoops with a choice of 3 toppings. The scoops were definitely mini, there was basically 3 spoonfuls of ice cream in each little jar. There were more toppings than ice cream! We were disappointed with this, especially because it cost $8. Our server was friendly and the place is cute and well located in midtown but overall just didn't feel quite worth it.

3.5 is my rating. I ordered the Ultimate grilled cheese sandwich, with pulled pork. ($16) This grilled cheese sandwich was a layer of mac and cheese, layer of pulled pork, with another layer of cheese all squished in 2 layers of bread. Each layer had its flavor, but all together it lacked flavor. I was actually hoping the pulled pork would be more saucy and would add some bbq flavor to the sandwich. It was tasty, but felt super greasy which gave a really heavy feeling after eating half the sandwich. I would not recommend eating the entire sandwich alone! Definitely calories overload. The dish came with a choice of fresh cut fries or home fries - I had the fresh cut fries. The fries were so good! It sort of tasted like Mcdonald's fries! My boyfriend ordered the Betty's Benedict ($12) Eggs benny served on peameal bacon, and instead of an English muffin it was their famous donut instead. I personally didn't like it because I'm not a fan of peameal bacon, and I also thought the donut was too sweet. One thing I didn't like was they served one of the eggs benny with the egg yolk already broken with the yolk running all around the plate. Also, the plate not served hot or warm, but slightly cold - a big negative for me. My boyfriend had the home fries as a side, which had the same flavor as the home cut fries but it was more potatoey. Tip: if you leave your name down on the waiting list, and the staff tells you it's going to be a 30 min wait, I wouldn't fully trust him and would hang around and not wander too far. That day I went, he pretty much told everyone 30 min wait but if a table is available and he calls your name and you're not there, he moves on. He also doesn't loudly call names so I would check in here and there.

Came here the other day with one of my cousins as we were looking for somewhere along the Yonge St. Strip to enjoy lunch. After disappointingly finding our first choice had closed down (RIP Soho Bistro), we decided to try Uncle Betty's. Yes, this place has been profiled on 'you gotta eat here' but I did not come in with any pre-expectations. Service was friendly and prompt. The menu is filled with comfort food classics. The dessert menu is to die for, we didn't actually try anything off there but I will in the future. My cousin had one of their famous grilled cheese stuffed with cheese, Mac n cheese, and roasted vegetables. A tad big but delicious. I had their adult Mac n cheese and enjoyed it though after seeing the grilled cheese had some second thoughts. All in all, we had a pleasant experience and would not hesitate to go back (especially for dessert!)

Quirky name, quirky food. Uncle Betty's standard brunch fare stands out not because of how they taste, but because of how they try. We had: - Ultimate grilled cheese: Standard grilled cheese sandwich but with a chunk of meatloaf and a dollop of mac&cheese. Meatloaf tasted pretty good but mac&cheese was really bland (how is this possible?) and couldn't really taste the cheese part on the actual grilled cheese. The home fries were amazing though, with really good seasoning. - Breakwich: Standard egg/cheese/sausage breakfast sandwich, except this one had donuts as the "bread". Sounds fun, but actually didn't taste any different. - Donuts: They promote these as their "famous donuts" so expectations are high. Maybe in a different time (when there weren't so many good donut places in Toronto), these would stand out. Now you're left going: tastes homemade (which is pretty good), but unimaginative flavours and doesn't really stand out. Overall 3 stars: 4 stars for trying something different, 2 stars for the actual taste. A try-once place. One last tip: On weekends, come before 10am if you want to avoid the crowds.

This is a terrific little find. A friend of mine lives in the neighbourhood so she suggested we go to Uncle Betty's. I don't really like breakfast food but they had a wonderful basket of baked goods (croissant, banana bread, chocolate croissants, etc) it was so delicious that I took the leftovers home.

Slow service, waiter didn't take our order until later. Tons of wasps on the patio, the restaurant did warn us. Food was over priced, ok quality. Stay home and make breakfast, you'll enjoy it more

Couldn't tell you about the food, as it never arrived. Even after repeated queries, our server couldn't remember what we had ordered. We just left.

"You gotta eat here!" I hate waking up early! I love to sleep in as late as possible, so waking up for a 1:30-2pm brunch was a miracle. But, I did it after seeing it on Food Network and John Catucci made it seem so awesome!! It was a Saturday afternoon at about 1:45pm when the two of us arrived to this cute modern family diner. It was packed... kids, parents, young couples, elders. There was a couple ahead of us, and couple more small parties behind. We had to wait about 5-10 minutes before a table opened up. I noticed a chalkboard at the front painted beautifully with all the different drinks, desserts, ice creams of different flavours, and toppings (I was already debating on which ice cream to get for dessert!). Then, there it was!! The donut-making machine that was featured on the show!! But disappointingly, it was not in use. The brunch menu consists of the typical steak and eggs, sausages, pancakes, etc as well as granola sundae, and cereal for kids. I came for their eggs benny on DONUT... but then I noticed the breakfast poutine! Then the breakfast dog?! Finally decided on: Affagato: $4.50 (5/5 stars) Vanilla ice cream topped w/ espresso shot. The slightly melted (not sure if it was intended) ice cream was perfection! This just may be the trick to get me out of bed. I would wake up early everyday if I can always start with ice cream and espresso!! Frozen Hot Chocolate: $? (5/5 stars) Not usually a frozen drinks fan, but if you are, then get this! Very simple, but very YUMMM! Stuffed French Toast: $13 (4/5 stars) Stuffed with ricotta and blueberry, maple syrup and fresh berries on the side! Control the sweetness over the ever-fluffy toasts yourself! However, it could use a bit more ricotta. But again, there's never enough cheese for me. Soo good! Betty's Benedict: $12 (4/5 stars) As seen on TV! Two poached eggs with peameal on top of 2 small donut halves w/ side fries. Perfect portion! At first, I was afraid it was going to be too sweet with the donut, but it was actually more like a mildly sweet, old fluffy country-style donut, so it all worked! We were stuffed, and were about to pass on desserts. But, how could I after I feasted my eyes on the chalkboard at the front?!?! Donut Ice Cream Sandwich: $5.50 (5/5 stars) Exactly how it sounds w/ your choice of ice cream and one topping. The server recommended the ROASTED MARSHMALLOW ice cream w/ skor bits. SOLD!! Service: (4/5 stars) Slightly slower than I would like, but I guess they were slammed. Enthusiastic, helpful, patient, and all the staff seemed to be having fun!! I was glad I did not get the breakfast dog I mentioned earlier, because I saw the table next to ours get it. It is simply a hot dog with a fried egg wrapped in it. Nothing exciting. As we were finishing up, all the staff were setting up for a giant kids' party of 50+ or something before they opened up for dinner. So i guess they host private events as well... How can I not come back the place that served me my BEST BRUNCH EVER?!?! Actually, I don't usually have brunch often, but I am definitely coming back to check out their dinner menu!

A good little diner just north of Yonge & Eglinton, Uncle Betty's has typical diner fare like All-Day Breakfast items as well as decent lunch options such as burgers, hot dogs. mac & cheese and poutine. It's simple comfort food, but its done right. I had the Betty's burger and it was cooked well. The prices were also reasonable. The Only negative is service was slow but it looked like there were only 2 people working that shift so it was understandable. The diner itself is a very small space with a few tables in the back area. A selection of various ice cream up front, as well as donuts. A solid diner for the area.

This place is actually great! I find Midtown to be full of hit and miss type of places, so that is why Uncle Betty's sticks out so much more - because it is consistently great. I have been there a bunch of times at this point, and have never been disappointed with their food or service. I like the fact that they try to incorporate donughnuts into some of their bennies, and their Ultimate Grilled Cheese Sandwich is absolutely decadently amazing. I would recommend getting the pulled pork sandwich - the pork is perfectly smooth, and has no fat. Having doughnuts and ice-cream as well, makes any trip there even more so gluttonous and delicious. And, come on, that name is just too good. Just gives a good vibe. Feels like it's edgy and modern, yet the cosiness and comfort of the space make it approachable and inviting. Definitely will be going back there again, and again, and again!

I would give it 1 and 1/2. The wait was long and the food was okkkeyy. Nothing special. I ordered their Betty's Breakfast and specifically asked the waitress if the bacon and salad/fries came with it. She said yes. So I ordered a salad coz I hate fries and a peameal. Both were extra and while it is fine, I would have simply preferred to know in advance. The waiter said it was on the Menu but I do not remember that. I could be wrong. It is one of those neighbourhood places that get popular due to vicinity. I am not sure how it ended on the Toronto Best 100 list. No different from Sunset Grill. I think they need more waitressing staff too. They are too busy and while they are polite, you wait a long time for food and refills.

Really like this place. Great variety on the menu. The donuts are amazing. My friends are I did not have reservations but we were seated almost right away and service was good. Definitely want to go again.
