Step into The Virgil, a cozy 1920s saloon vibe bar where classic cocktails and eclectic events collide for a laid-back night out in East Hollywood.
"The Virgil is a dive bar in East Hollywood with two different dance floors—one in the front, and one through a door in the back. And you should be heading straight to the back bar, where you’ll find a dark, massive dance floor with a DJ playing pop tracks from the last 30 years. The drinks are expensive, but that generally comes with the territory of being in a dance-y bar on the Eastside—just take a shot or two of tequila before you hop in your Lyft, and you’ll be set for the night. "You have drunks on one side, then you have drunks telling jokes on the other. The Virgil hosts comedy nights, DJ's, and random events on the "A" side of the bar (Kristen Schaal, Demetri Martin, and Aziz Ansari to name a few) which are usually worth checking out. "B" side serves well crafted drinks in a very relaxed environment. It never get's insanely packed, being one of the reasons I love it. This is a place to really start or wind down your night." - Cris Cimatu
"One of the best disaster bars in the city, The Virgil has two excellent dancefloors full of people taking shots of whatever’s cheapest. But skip the front one and head straight to the dark, grungy, and very sweaty dancefloor in the back, where you’ll find a DJ playing pop tracks from the last 30 years. You’ll walk out feeling sticky in every single way, but you really couldn’t give less of a f*ck about it." - brett keating
"The Virgil is a bare bones bar in Virgil VIllage, and the kind of place you go to when you have a big group and no consensus on what kind of night you all want to have. The space is broken up into two fairly distinct rooms, each with their own DJ and dance floor. The front “Stage Room” tends to skew more hip hop and is slightly tamer. The “B Side”, on the other hand, is more wide-ranging with its music and gets downright wild on a Saturday night. The drinks are well-made, but pricey, so if you’re on a budget, we recommend a strong pre-game beforehand." - Brant Cox
"Run by the family behind Silver Lake’s El Cochinito and Café Tropical, Bolita is a beautiful cocktail bar that feels like a Cuban vacation. Located in the old Smog Cutter space in Virgil Village (This Side of Hoover just dropped a explaining it all), this cozy bar is filled with mirrors, small snacks like bocadito sandwiches and plantain chips, and specialty cocktails. Grab a table inside while sipping on cocktails made with lemon verbena-infused vodka, Thai basil, turmeric syrup, and hibiscus bitters, or a spot at the bar and dance to bossa nova music. If you’ve been looking for an excuse to wear your cutest bell bottom jeans and sunglasses at night, this is the place." - Kat Hong
