"Located directly under Chelsea Market, this place does get packed on weekdays around 7, or whenever YouTube and the other companies in the building get out of school for the day. But it attracts crowds for a reason: tons of space, big tables, and a rotating menu of alcoholic frozen drinks." - katherine lewin, hillary reinsberg

"Located directly under Chelsea Market, The Tippler is a massive bar that’s useful for exactly two things: parties and group outings. If you need to organize a Happy Hour for everyone who works on your floor, come here. The subterranean room is filled with rugs, tables, and exposed brick, and there’s more than enough room for huge groups to mingle. There aren’t many snacks available, but you can bring in your own food from Chelsea Market." - Bryan Kim, Matt Tervooren

"Right under Chelsea Market is The Tippler, or Manhattan’s version of a drinking playground. This bar has lots of space, lots of tables, lots of frozen drinks, and lots of people to meet. Yes, it can get packed around 7pm when everyone who works in the area congregates here, but at pretty much all other times there’s plenty of room for your group." - bryan kim, katherine lewin, neha talreja, kenny yang

"Chelsea Market is popular for its diverse restaurants and food stalls, ranging from fresh lobster and seafood to tacos, crepes, and currywurst. Underneath the street level is a less visible but equally popular destination: The Tippler, a cellar-like bar with fixtures made of reclaimed wood and other industrial materials from the nearby High Line. The drink menu features throwback-era cocktails with cheeky names (Montauk Makeout; Poppy Don't Preach) and a beer selection including seasonal drafts on rotation. Pace yourself by adding a little something from the small plates menu to your order, say, a cheddar and scallion dip or the crack mix (rye bagel chips, corn nuts, and other crunchy treats)."

"Arrive in the early evening at this bar underneath Chelsea Market to snag a pair of barstools. If the date is going well, head upstairs for tacos from Los Tacos No. 1. Note that the phone service here is spotty, in case there is a friend who is going to call for last-minute help feeding her dog." - Patty Diez, Stefanie Tuder

To respond to the owner’s reply: no we didn’t order through app we were in person. Attached the receipt from tonight. Also the red Y or not is the special drink that should be 14 dollars I believe per the menu. Overall the experience is just sloppy and overcharged. One star! Very overpriced and randomly charged. We ordered two cocktail and one plate of chips. We ordered one sauce but they gave us the wrong one and took away yet charged two plates of salsa sauces. They also have mandatory tip of 20% and try to trick you into paying additional tips by hiding the receipt in the back. Service was meh and slow. drinks were very very very very strong and it’s getting to the point of discomfort after drinking. Definitely feels like a scam here cuz two drinks and one chips add up to be 70 dollars.

Google
Absolutely underwhelming experience. Snack options were extremely limited and below average in quality. We asked for some extra salsa with our chips and not only were we charged for it—we were charged twice. Ordered the advertised drink special, only to be charged full price without explanation. To top it off, they sneakily added a 20% gratuity for a party of two, which is both deceptive and unacceptable. The server presented the bill without mentioning the included tip, clearly hoping we’d unknowingly double-tip. This kind of dishonest practice is infuriating. Always check your bill carefully here. The total came to over $70 for just two drinks and a snack, which is outrageous even by New York standards. Giving 2 stars solely for the decent ambience—otherwise this would be a solid 1-star experience.

Google
Hit or miss. DJ caters to the crowd, which is great. There is an entrance fee at the ground level before you descend into the bar. I visited Sat night, April 2025; not sure if fees apply at all times. Venue is underground with open space for dancing/mingling and tables for groups. Gendered bathrooms have multiple stalls, and there is a mirrored wall for photo opps. Industrial vibes and low-lit ambiance. Sadly, they do not vet the patrons or have security inside the bar. One of the women in my party was harassed by some men who would not take "no thank you" for an answer. Thankfully one of the guys in our party intervened. Disappointed to experience this.

Google
The arched ceilings, exposed brick walls, brick columns, Persian rugs, and dim lighting make this drink spot under Chelsea Market feel like a hidden gem. Cocktails are well made. We got the Hush Money and Vibe Check and enjoyed both.

Marc Bains

Google
Cool spot in Chelsea Market. Not necessarily a speakeasy but has the vibes. Underground, warm lighting, cool crowd, and nice ambiance. The cocktails were good and the staff was friendly. We had the Green Envy and Take it Ease (yes Ease and not Easy)....

Freddy Villalona

Google
This is definitely a hidden gem withing the city. The drinks and food were extraordinary. The old fashioned comes with a samurai sword because they make it with a Japanese whiskey. The presentation and the ambience was a also key and the music was not too loud or too low. They will accommodate any party. The restrooms were clean and the service was great. It is a basement so if you happen to have some type of disability, then this place is not for you. My overall experience was excellent. #ambience #samurai #hidden #clean #whiskey

Google
Highly recommend. Warm and cozy atmosphere, feels very hip and trendy. Delicious selection of small plates and some great beers and ciders, as well as an almost overwhelming variety of classy cocktails. My bartender took the time out to figure out the best drink for me, and I'm glad she did - the Call an Uber alone was worth the trip.

Keith Jackson

Google
Decent place. Four star rating helped by a good location, setting / vibe. Service was friendly, prompt and knowledgeable. Drinks were solid (all we had) and loved they had other half beer which I switched over to after the first drink.

AJ L.

Yelp
This was a place that my friend and I happened to randomly stumble upon and we're glad we did. The bar itself is MASSIVE. Lots of standing room with some seating. There is a decent selection of cocktails (I recommend the Take it Ease) and a lot of other beers and non alcoholic options. The music they play is so fun and the vibe itself is great. It was giving industrial x indie if that's even a thing? Anyways, our server was super friendly and even gave us a free pretzel since the kitchen made too many. Would absolutely come back.

Chris C.

Yelp
Cool vibes, underground basement vibe. Killing time & good deals next to chelsea. Exposed brick is sexy.

Ritesh S.

Yelp
Cool drink spot under Chelsea Market - arched ceilings, exposed brick walls, dim lighting, cool crowd, and nice ambiance. The cocktails were good and the staff was friendly. They have couple of option for small plates but allow outside food. I went on a Wednesday night with group of friends and got seated right away. We ordered 2 rounds of cocktails - some cocktails were pretty potent but we'll balanced. Definitely recommend this place for date nights and hangout with friends.

Katey G.

Yelp
There's been a few times I've been around Chelsea Market, wanting to kill time and drinking seems to be the best way to do that. The Tippler is a great spot. It's underground and really spacious inside. You could easily come with a group of people and feel comfortable (most bars in NYC are tiny). I had two green with envy cocktails and they were delicious and balanced with surprisingly high ABV. A great space in Chelsea!

Jennie B.

Yelp
Very stiff drinks, pleasantly surprised for a bar located in Chelsea market. Went on a Saturday night and it wasn't too crowded, not a bumping elbows-worried you're going to be stepped on kind of bar. Pretty chill all in all

Jessica K.

Yelp
The drinks were quite mid but it wasn't bad for stumbling upon this place on a random Wednesday evening. The pretzel was actually quite good haha and we also ordered some chips which were quite stale.

Brian F.

Yelp
The Tippler is located at the Chelsea Market but is not accessible via the inside. To get here, go near Los Tacos No. 1 and find the "open" sign. Then go downstairs and you'll see it. On the inside is a cool vibe with lots of brick everywhere as it's located in a cellar. My first drink was the crown juul ($16) which was an old fashioned with a sweet vanilla flavor. My second drink was the golden hour ($16) and they were right in that they are crushable. I literally finished the drink in 5 minutes and then proceeded to order another. It was delicious and if you only get one drink here, make sure it's the golden hour. I enjoyed the dimly lit speakeasy vibe. It was chill which was a stark contrast with the busy NYC streets just outside. Two words to remember: golden hour.

Nivi R.

Yelp
Fun and casual bar right next to Chelsea market. Been here a couple of times on week night to grab a drink before getting some food at the market. The cocktails are pretty good and averagely priced; has a very limited wine menu (not sure why they call themselves a wine bar). The music is loud!! So if you are hoping to have a convo, good luck. I'd probably avoid this for dates...but okay to hang with friends.

Maggie B.

Yelp
I came here for drinks before a show at Little Island. It's technically located inside Chelsea Market, but they have a street entrance on 15th street for easy access. The bar is below ground and has brick walls and a dark, low key vibe. You kind of feel like you're in a cozy cave. The day we came, they had a special on shots with Jäegermeister and cranberry juice. These were super sweet and kind of tasted like cough syrup. They were quite strong though, which isn't always the case with mixed shots. I also tried the Green With Envy cocktail. It's described as a "healthy Moscow Mule" and this was fairly accurate. The green juice came through in full force and it was very vegetal. This might be a nice alternative to a Bloody Mary and could be a good brunch cocktail, but it wasn't my favorite for an evening drink. My sister got the It Was All a Dream cocktail. It was a little too sweet and the passionfruit in it didn't really come through. Our waitress was friendly and attentive. Definitely a recommended spot for groups or date night.

Holly K.

Yelp
Really cute bar in a cellar near Chelsea Market!! Max capacity inside is still currently limited, so unfortunately you most likely will have to wait in a line outside. Once inside, there is lots of standing room at the bar, and several tables scattered throughout (you can order from either). Did not try any of the food, menu was quite limited, but the cocktails were delicious and were reasonably priced (for NY). "The Vibe" was their take on a margarita (my favorite), which contained two types of tequila, falernum (syrup), agave and lime- was not too sweet or too bitter. Would return here for drinks 100%!

Flora H.

Yelp
Cool spot with great cocktails that wasn't too busy at all on a weekend night. I never would have known this was here, or expected there to be this cool of a bar in this spot. Not sure about people saying that it's hard crowded or hard to get into - that wasn't my experience at all. If anything it was almost a bit too empty making it not lively enough...

Sarah P.

Yelp
There was a short wait to get in last Saturday but I'm very glad we decided to wait it out because what a great bar this is! The bar is quite roomy, good for a larger group if you have one. We were a group of 6 and were able to secure a table after hanging out for a bit. The drinks were good but my favorite part is definitely the atmosphere. It's sexy but approachable. Think-exposed brick and low light vibes. This felt like a late 20's-early 30's spot which is right up my alley. I will absolutely be returning. 5/5

Reema P.

Yelp
Best speakeasy under Chelsea market, we went Friday before dinner for a quick drink and it was nice and empty. We got a table easily to grab some cocktails. Highly recommend their espresso martini!

Christine D.

Yelp
Very cool little speakeasy bar, loved the vibe and the drink options. It was a very relaxed atmosphere and the waitress brought our friend a special shot for her bachelorette party. Probably one of my favorite bars we visited! Would absolutely return :)

Michelle L.

Yelp
I came on a Saturday at 8PM. It wasn't too busy yet and friends were able to snag a table. The cocktails taste good and are decently strong. Decor is nice. I wish they had more food and snacks but they only offer pretzels and chips with salsa. The food menu led to another restaurant and I'm not sure how that delivery/pickup would work. The food by Chelsea market isn't open late. I tried "it was all a dream" on the regular cocktail menu and also the special cocktail of the day. Friends like this place. You can grab glasses of water yourself. As it got later, it got pretty loud.

Lingxiao C.

Yelp
Highly recommend the cocktail called It Was All A Dream, which completely blew me away with its depth. I hadn't been wowed by a cocktail in quite a while, but this one succeeded. The Call Me Captain was also delicious. Chill vibes - didn't feel clubby, so was a bit surprised to find a bouncer guarding the stairs to the basement where the bar is located. And yes, definitely not a friendly one. But our waitress was friendly and served our promptly. I appreciated that the layout was spacious, but the seating was rather limited. I can see it being good for big groups and standing convos.

Jefe D.

Yelp
A fun underground bar near the Chelsea market area! Opens up at 5pm, is definitely a great vibe towards the weekend. Drinks are fantastic and staff is amazing!

Sonali G.

Yelp
Came here late on a Friday night with two friends and absolutely loved the vibes!! It's a quiet and dark bar in the basement by Chelsea Market - the crowd was super cool, just a bunch of groups looking to sit at tables/by the bar and talk - perfect for a night when you just want to grab drinks with friends and chat, rather than have a crazy night filled with loud music and dancing. Don't get me wrong, both are fun - but if you're looking for a bar that's open late and doesn't get too rowdy, this is the place to go! The drinks, at $16-25+ were on the expensive side, but if this is a second or third stop in your night, hopefully doesn't break your bank account too much.. Plus, it's a really cool vibe - almost feels like you're inside of a wine cellar of sorts.. I have a feeling I'll be back - and this may become one of my "go-to" spots in the city

Josephine L.

Yelp
The Tippler feels like a speakeasy that college students opened. It has the brick-walled, subterranean isolation of a speakeasy, but with much cheaper drinks and younger clientele. The best of both worlds! We loved everything we tried, but the standouts were Green with Envy, It Was All a Dream, Hush Money, and The Crown Jewel. Service was fantastic, and the spacious seating (another upgrade from a typical speakeasy) made it easy to socially distance people-watch. I saw a few awkward first dates that reminded me all too well of my own college-age awkward first dates. "So...you like....stuff?" That kind of thing.

Amira A.

Yelp
Call Me Captain is so good! It's a pina colada basically and it's a little on the strong side. It's actually one of the best I've had. It's cute too with the banana chips and coconut shavings. I had about three of those and the Bavarian pretzel. I loved the grain mustard. I've never had it before but I can't imagine pretzels without it now. It's a little small but I did enjoy it. It's pretty dark down there and they should move the "wish you were here" sign away from the fire hose lol. It was all in my picture.

Tyler T.

Yelp
This place can be a little tricky to find as it's outside the Chelsea Market but you actually have to go down a flight of stairs on the side to get there. The place wasn't too crowded though we had to stand for a bit before we got some seating. That being said it was very spacious, though that could just be because we were there on a weekday. Drinks were decent but nothing too special, given the city has so many great bars with amazing options.

Eric S.

Yelp
Cool spot in Chelsea Market. Not necessarily a speakeasy but has the vibes. Underground, warm lighting, cool crowd, and nice ambiance. The cocktails were good and the staff was friendly.

Abbey R.

Yelp
Fun great underground bar around Chelsea. I came here on a Saturday night and you basically order your own drinks at the bar and sit where you like. The cocktails were yummy a bit pricey for $15 but they are unique. Also being that you're in that area of Manhattan prices are about right. The bar is was very busy but we did found a table for seven as soon as we walked in. The bar was playing okay music but we were having a great time laughing relaxing and chilling. The bar closes at 3am so if you want some late night drinks this is a pretty cool spot. For drinks I had some pickle shots which were pretty good, "my gf lives in queens was pretty good as well and spicy and westboy cowboy something was very yummy. If I'm in the area I would come back again I wouldn't recommend for food but yes for drinks. Also they have a photo booth next to the bathrooms.

Rossy M.

Yelp
A chill no frills bar in the Meatpacking. A little hard to find but once you locate the building number and go down the set of stairs you're in for a treat. The first thing I noticed was how spacious it was, the cool dimmed lighting, and the fact that there was a lot of seating. The space was nicely decorated too, very rustic and a lot of Christmas spirit. The bar itself was big but we initially noted there was only one bartender working. Took us a while to put in an order and once we finished we were told the credit card machine wasn't working hence the decreased star. I felt bad for the bartender because he looked a little stressed. Putting that aside, our drinks were great. I had a delicious moscow mule as did some of my other coworkers and we all loved them. My boss had this spiked hot cider which she was obsessing over so it must have been really good too. I'd def. come back again next time I'm in the area. The ambiance wasn't bad at all for a Monday - a good amount of people and a nice playlist. I would love to see how it gets during the weekends!

Christian R.

Yelp
Awesome decor, but somewhat boring. There didn't seem to be much going on. Service was fairly quick, and staff was nice and friendly.

Camille G.

Yelp
This was a speakeasy tour with Brett, he guided us through the Chelsea Market. My first time here. I was pretty amazed how big this actually was. A few turns here and there with a couple of stairs, hallways and voilà. We are in an unground cellar space. The walls and artifacts are historic. It's pretty roomy and I love the rustic decor. ..Lights dimmed, plenty of seats. We made it to the bar looked over their classic cocktails list. Ordered Monkey business and Pineapple Express. I watched as she made them, loved the basket with oranges, lemon, limes, and a peeler for rimming drinks and cutting slices. Bar was fully stocked with only the finest of it all. The music played at a distance to soothe and relax from the business above. I loved it. Great experience!! Love finding treasures and this was truly one of them.

Bruce L.

Yelp
Hidden deep under Chelsea Market with only an "Open" sign out front to identify it, you really have to know where your going, or you have to be dumb adventurous; I am very much the latter. My friends and I were looking for a place to start our night. We were just walking around the Greenwich Village and saw a bright "open" sign out front of the building. I figured it was maybe a bar. We walked up and in the building to where there was a bouncer. He I.D us and told us to have fun. We still had no idea what we were getting into. We walked down the old rickety stairs and past some old television sets. At some point we started questioning, are we even going the right way. We kept going down the stairs and finally found it. It was rustic and lavishly decorated with hip stuff such as old suitcases and books. The lights were very dim, setting a listing 20's era tone. The bartenders all dressed the part. The drinks were tasty, however, there is a huge mark up for this hidden gem of a place. 3 double shot whiskeys and a beer were $80. The service was okay. Overall; you pay extra because of the setting for sure. A neat place nonetheless

DonColieon L.

Yelp
The owner was not professional with our group. We all had valid ID's and we followed the rules provided. Our Dj we all came to support (Mattthaoutlaw on IG ), He barely got to perform and he was on time and respectful. we all felt mistread... then they kicked up out in the pouring rain... Not cool.

Jordan N.

Yelp
Too dark and dreary. No food offered. Stairs to the bar hard to navigate. Ownership lacking understanding of the business. High employee turnover.

Mary P.

Yelp
This bar is very chill and cozy. A good place to strike up a conversation over these specialty cocktails or just hang out. It's a bit confusing to find but basically get on W15th st and find the OPEN light bulb sign and you'll get into the door that takes you downstairs. Once there there is a bunch of stuff to look at around the entrance but go right to the bar and you'll find plenty of seating and room. The cocktails are at manhattan prices but are good. There's something cozy about being subterranean.

Chris K.

Yelp
Great cocktail place for a date or quick drink before dinner. We came here a few years ago and then recently went back to get some cocktails before a friends birthday dinner nearby. The bartenders here know what they're doing and make fantastic drinks. You can order one of their signature cocktails or ask the bartender to make something for you. Seating can be tough for large groups -- probably best to come here in a smaller group or as a couple. There aren't really any food options, a pretzel or chips, but you can order food from Chelsea market next door and bring it in. Definitely recommend for drinks and will be back.

Kenny W.

Yelp
they charged me 20% gratuity .. but I ordered at the bar :,( also it's stinky in here

Lauren S.

Yelp
I really enjoyed the ambiance of this bar and was glad that there was no list to enter, etc. The layout also allowed for people to be social or private, depending on your mood. The cocktail list was a little limiting, imo.

Melanie R.

Yelp
I stopped by here for a drink on Friday around 6pm and it was empty. The place was huge with plenty of standing room and tables for small or large parties. The whole place smelled like a public bathroom... Cocktails were $15 which was reasonable compared to other bars in the area. They also have a limited food menu. We tried the GREEN WITH ENVY and THANK U, NEXT cocktail. Both really bad and poorly crafted. My banana daiquiri was extremely sour and the moscow mule had too much ginger. Service was completely lacking. I wouldn't recommend this bar for cocktails. Maybe for a quick beer just to hang out. But honestly I have no interest in returning.

Audrey C.

Yelp
Loved the vibes of this place. The seating was nicely spaced out, chill music, attentive staff. Only swung by to grab one drink before heading to a dinner reservation - ordered the Green With Envy. I'm a huge fan of Moscow mules, so it was the obvious choice of cocktail . My friend ordered Call Me Captain, and that also was a super tasty drink. Would absolutely love to go back and relax/grab a few more drinks next time! Was one of my favorite spots for drinks in NYC during my week long stay!

Renee C.

Yelp
I WANTED to like this place! It had 4 stars on Yelp! It has a cute vibe! However, the food was average and the service was meh! I ordered a drink that tasted wayyyy too much like cotton candy menthol! I appreciated that the waitress took that drink off of our tab, but it doesn't explain why we were there for an hour and only was voluntarily visited twice (once to take our order and once to drop them off) by the waitress! I ordered the grilled cheese and yikes! There was barely any cheese! I can't believe how much I paid for slightly cheesy bread. We ordered the Cheddar Scallion dip, and it was smaller than bite-sized! I was flummoxed by how tiny that dish was. This place HAS potential, and there's a part of me that wonders if maybe I don't "get it," because this place does have a 4-4.5 Yelp rating... However everything isn't meant to appeal to everyone. And this place has minimal appeal to me.

Tae K.

Yelp
Young (way younger than me) and hipster (way hipsterier than me) crowd located in an spacious underground bar. There is a long bar with lots of bartenders so you are not constantly trying to wait to get in your order. Inner area is standing room only with ledges to put your drink and chill with a couple tables around the outside. The noise level is not too bad for being in essentially a very cool cave.

Amby S.

Yelp
My sister and I recently visited here. We almost walked right past it. When you walk in, there is a hallway, and you have to take the stairs downstairs. We each got two drinks which were delicious although I think it could have been presented better. It was clean but I do not think this is some place I would go back to.

Yelp
Had a drink at The Tippler on a rainy Friday evening. A cool space with solid cocktails that was the perfect spot on a less than ideal night. Quality: I only had one cocktail, My Girlfriend Lives in Queens, but it was a tasty one. With a combination of tequila, cucumber, ginger, honey, lime, toasted sesame, and chili oil, it had a fun mix of flavors. Just a bit of heat that rose over the other citrus and sweet elements. The toasted sesame was a great and unexpected touch that really helped bring the drink together. Quantity: Fair, tasty, and strong pours. Value: $15 for the entire list of Cocktails. Ambiance: The Tippler is a basement cocktail lounge in Chelsea. After a short walk down a set of stairs you find yourself in a dimly lit cellar. With plenty of unique elements including antique fixtures and vintage books, it feels a bit like stepping back in time. There were plenty of seats, so even though it was busy finding a chair was not a problem. They have table service or you can order at the bar. They also had several screens, so major sporting events are covered. Crowd: On a rainy evening, a large crowd congregated in this basement bar to escape the elements and enjoy a cocktail. Service: Appreciated the fast and efficient table service at the busy spot. Parking: Extremely limited parking in the area.

Yelp
Came as part of a small work party. Service was kind and receptive of our group. The guac was AMAZING. Chunky and fresh with cilantro. Drinks were good as well. Lots of space and the whole vibe was very cool. Felt like a speak-easy

Wayne B.

Yelp
The atmosphere was perfect! The drinks were delicious and service was so attentive! Definitely worth going when you visit NYC.

Gigi A.

Yelp
I feel like I owe this place a review. Been here a few times and each time had a different experience. Neve great, but never awful. The basement location and bathrooms remind me of being in middle school, for some reason. The drinks are good but expensive. I like the cucumber drinks bc I like cucumber everything. I don't have any cell service here which I'm counting as a positive. But if you want to call an Uber or meet up with friends, you have to keep running upstairs which is annoying. This place is too quiet, yes TOO quiet. I need something a little more lively. Maybe you'll find it romantic!

Ry M.

Yelp
My friends and I just went here for drinks. They have a great selection of craft beers and neat cocktails. I absolutely love the atmosphere in this bar. It has a speak-easy type feel, if you are into that. It's in the basement next to/underneath Chelsea Market, its a little difficult to find. The bar/lounge is HUGE! There are many comfy seating areas. It's dimly lit and very well decorated... love that romantic feel. I really enjoyed the atmosphere and would definitely recommend this bar.

Shawn T.

Yelp
Cute and quaint bar under Chelsea Market. Very spacious and a wide variety of specialty cocktails. They also have a few snacks. The pretzels are worth having with your drink. It's a little dark in some corners but that just makes it cozy. Service was also great as well.

Joe T.

Yelp
It's a big brick room you go down some steps to get to. It's trying for the Speakeasy vibe (like Raines Law Room), but not trying too hard or hard enough. There is a token effort at ambiance, but I didn't feel it. Drinks are NYC expensive, which is expected, but not a big selection of specialty drinks on the menu (maybe 8 or 10). It's like a few of people got together and in a moment of inspiration decided to create a cool bar, in a secret location, with a 1920s speakeasy theme, with handcrafted cocktails...and then all smoked a doober, ran out of energy and created the Tippler and ordered a pizza.

Robby D.

Yelp
My one & only experience here: The bar staff and the drinks were great. The bouncers are why I would never give this place 5*. The bouncer checking IDs outside clearly hated his job or was having a horrible night. We've all experienced that bouncer though so no big deal. The bouncer on the inside that was standing at the stairs the whole time I was there is rude and doesn't deserve a job though. After my 2nd drink, I started walking up the stairs to look for the restroom. As I get to him, I ask: "Will you tell me where the restroom is?" Bouncer: "what?" Me: the restroom Bouncer: if you can't use complete sentences then I can't understand you. Now do you want to try asking me again using a complete sentence like a normal person? Me (very fed up at this moment): Will you please tell me where the restroom is? Bouncer: oh, so you want to know where the restroom is, is that right? Me: yes please He finally points me in the direction. This whole exchange was pointless, he was extremely rude for no reason while I am trying to be a considerate client, and I have no desire to ever come back due to his petty attitude. He needs to grow up. No one cares if you don't like your job or if you possibly have some personal issue with the way I look or talk. That disrespect was uncalled for.

Yelp
Very cool chilled spot. Came here with a couple of friends scouting out a spot to have a birthday gathering. The spot was was hard to find at work with this huge illuminated open sign smack right outside. We walked in, the place is located in the basement with this dungeon look to it, not so intimate, huge enough for a few large groups. Definitely a spot to chill and catch up with friends. The music wasn't loud where you can't hear yourself. The drinks were awesome, the atmosphere, everything. I must say for a Thursday night, this spot was popping. And you don't have to dress up. I had the birthday shot to start, followed by a drink I can't recall the name and sea monkey. Both drinks were well made. We will definitely head here for the birthday celebration with an even larger group. *review will be updated based on that visit.*

Yelp
This place is a hidden gem...and I'm not joking about it being hidden. I think I walked past it three times before I realized where the entrance is. It's an underground cocktail bar below Chelsea Market, and if it weren't for a glowing OPEN sign, I wouldn't have even paid any attention to it. Anyway, it's actually really big and nice. Vibe is good and it's not overly crowded (at least for a Friday night). Good spot to check out in the Meatpacking area!

Yelp
What a nice place to gather for fine refreshments! The atmosphere and beverage quality are major attractions for me. I would note that the service is the weaker link and could see where one may drop a star. Given the great location, I was immediately surprised by the amount of available space at tables. Not as in "void of crowd" but rather not the "shoulder to shoulder" action that is typical of good beverage service establishments in NYC. Most impressive to me was the lack of attitude from the customers and the servers. Relaxed and open is the theme. The VIBE here at the The Tippler is excellent and lends itself to an ATMOSPHERE that is heavy on relaxation. Mind you, there are boisterous characters but it is "good fun" as opposed to "obnoxious". Walking down the entry stairs to subterainean den, the walls and support columns are brink, the furniture is wooden, the carpets are nice (probably Asian although I'm a little fuzzy today). Tables surround the open floor and are spaced well enough for comfort unless the group is six or more. The lighting is overhead and dim hanging from dark metal fixtures (ummm, or so I recall). This was a special event night and we consumed many BEVERAGES. Being excitable people on this topic, we tried several and they were all prepared well. Mrs G tried one of house concoctions whilst the rest of us tried a series of favorites (Sazerac, Old Fashioned, Manhattan, Vesper, Boulevardier). Yours truly tried the Double Chocolate Porter which was from an unknown (due to memory) brewery. We stayed quite a while and tried some FOOD which was better than expected. The range of selections is not large. They keep it simple and higher quality. White Bean on toast and the pretzel were memorable. I don't normally go for pretzel but this one was excellent. Realize that this is a beverage establishment that serves food so, don't expect a phenomenal meal. Lastly, the SERVICE was inconsistent. While one of my Yelp friends had a bad service experience due to behavior, in my case, it was perfectly friendly but there was not enough of it. The Tippler should put one (or even two) additional table server on the floor. The table adjoining our was going to the bartender rather than wait for the table service. Lastly, (again lastly), whether it was our over-indulgence or their poor shift scheduling, we managed to sit through three rotations of servers. We closed the tab each time. That said, I really had a great time here and knowing the service tendency, I would have no problem looking past it.
