"Why did this hotel catch your attention? What's the vibe?Is this a cool co-working space? A restaurant? A hotel? The Hoxton Southwark has got that exposed-brick, multi-use-lobby thing down to a tee. Here, freelancers nurse coffees behind MacBooks, media workers come to gossip over a bottle of wine, and tourists sling cocktails after catching whatever's on view at The Tate Modern, which is just a few blocks away. What's the backstory? The people behind The Hoxton have been busy; after a slow start—the first location opened in Shoreditch in 2006, followed by a second in Holborn in 2014—the group now has now opened nine properties. Hoxton Southwark, the newest, sits in a part of town that has, until now, badly needed stylish, affordable hotels. Like its sister properties, this location has buzzy communal spaces and chic, functional rooms at reasonable rates. Tell us all about the accommodations. Any tips on what to book?Rooms range from Shoebox to Biggy; the former is compact but not stifling. All rooms have windows and king-size beds. Décor is cool and reassuringly predictable: wood paneling, velvet headboards, mid-century-style lamps, and bathrooms with metro tiles and brass fittings. The bathrooms are small but have walk-in rain showers. Is there a charge for Wi-Fi, and how is the quality?Free and fast. Drinking and dining—what are we looking at?A swish seafood restaurant on the rooftop has a lovely outdoor terrace and London’s longest oyster list. Back on the open-plan ground floor, Albie does a mean vegan burger. A breakfast bag (piece of fruit, juice, and protein bar) is included in the rate. What type of travelers will you find here? The communal areas are filled with at least as many locals as tourists, all discussing their latest pitch and the current exhibition at the Tate. What about the neighborhood? Does the hotel fit in, make itself part of the scene? The neighborhood is business-y rather than residential, but the whole of the South Bank is your oyster, and Borough Market is minutes away. Bottom line: Worth it? Why?The new Hoxton is a total bargain in the beating heart of the South Bank." - Laura Goulden

"Not many hotels allow you to roll out of bed and stand Thames-side in front of Tate Modern within five minutes. Tucked away in super-central (but underrated) Southwark, the third London property from the Hoxton group – its Shoreditch and Holborn sites also come highly recommended – offers just that."

I had a pleasant stay overall. The hotel is in a great location—situated in a quiet neighborhood but still close to train stations and plenty of good restaurants. The rooftop and lobby restaurants are excellent options if you prefer to dine in, and the staff throughout the hotel were friendly and helpful. When I first arrived, the bed sheets didn’t feel very clean. I requested a change at the lobby, and it was handled promptly. I believe this was more of a laundry handling issue rather than a reflection on the housekeeping staff, who were otherwise attentive. Overall, the experience was positive, and I’d consider staying here again.

A cozy hotel in a great location, but with very poor service. Apparently, you need to write to them if you want your room cleaned, your bed made, or to get a refill of water and toilet paper, etc. It would have been good, and perhaps acceptable, if you had received that information at check-in rather than a text message a few hours later, where the information about housekeeping service is at the very bottom, after all the restaurant tips, etc.— so easy to miss. It feels like it’s intentional on the hotel’s part, and that they want to clean fewer rooms. We are leaving with a bitter aftertaste, mainly because of the non-existent service and poor communication. Not value for money.

My wife and I stayed here for my first visit to London. Everything about this hotel was fantastic. The service, the room amenities, the location, and the convenience. Each day we were stocked with complimentary water bottles for our days of exploration. The lobby and rooftop are a nice vibe to hangout and eat or have a drink and the mezzanine is perfect for co-working. The location was away from the hustle and bustle of the city but proximate to an underground station. If I ever take a work trip or even a visit to explore, I would definitely come back!

The Hoxton in Southwark is a stylish and comfortable hotel in a fantastic location, ideal for a city break or business stay. The aptly named Snug room is compact but cleverly designed, offering everything you need with a sleek aesthetic and a lovely bathroom to match. Service throughout is excellent, with friendly staff and flexible room cleaning on request. The breakfast menu is a real highlight - varied, tasty and well-priced, adding to the hotel’s overall great value. The only downside was the overly soft pillows, but that’s a small quibble in an otherwise thoroughly enjoyable stay.

I’ve stayed at multiple Hoxton locations and consistently love the interior design, restaurant, and bar areas. Despite the small rooms, I don’t mind the size given the aesthetic appeal, cleanliness and comfortable beds. However, I’ve noticed a decline in service quality over recent visits. Room cleaning is no longer standard, guests must specifically request it. While framed as a sustainability initiative, this feels more like a cost-cutting measure. The reception staff have also become less helpful. When I messaged via WhatsApp requesting help with making a reservation at their rooftop restaurant, I was told to call directly instead of them being able to help make the booking, despite me telling them I was unable to call. I will note that the food and design of the rooftop restaurant, Seabird, is stunning! Similarly, when I asked to borrow a tote bag for the day, I was informed I’d need to purchase one, ironically undermining their sustainability messaging, especially when most hotels at this price point offer to lend you one. Also to point out that there are a lack of gym facilities and no discounted partnerships with nearby fitness studios, which feels like an oversight given the premium pricing. Overall, while I appreciate the design and ambiance that Hoxton is known for, the service quality no longer matches the price point. The hotel seems to be cutting corners on guest experience while maintaining high rates.

A place full of good vibes with kind and smart people. Rooms are clean and comfortable; reception, restaurant and bar were outstanding! We felt included, respected, safe and relaxed. Even the position is perfect. They are customer obsessed and we are sure we'll come back soon.

Lovely interior design. Comfiest bed I’ve ever stayed in and the bathroom was lovely too. We enjoyed the rooftop bar in particular the Snowbird cocktail. Staff were friendly but would say the drinks were very expensive.

Lovely staff, i arrived in my wheelchair & they moved us to an accessible room with no issues. We had a comfy bed, asked for harder pillows & were given them straight away. Great breakfast that kept us going through the day & yumy cocktails at Albie.
