The Broad is a striking modern art museum showcasing an impressive collection, including Warhol and Basquiat, all under a honeycomb facade.
"Housed in a building with a dimpled façade that many say looks like a cheese grater, the Broad houses the collection of Edythe Broad, who accumulated a formidable cache of contemporary art with her late husband Eli. The collection is more pop than academic, earning it a reputation as a stop on tourists' lists, if only to take selfies in front of Jeff Koons' balloon dog or Robert Therrien's enlarged table and chairs. There are also works from the likes of Ruscha, Warhol, Basquiat, Murakami, and Sherman. A reservation is required and hard to come by due to the museum's popularity, so plan in advance. It's free, and if you hustle, you can see the museum's hits in no time." - Maxwell Williams
"The Broad is one of the world’s leading collections of postwar and contemporary art, and it’s just a block from our hotel. Major names displayed include Jasper Johns, Andy Warhol, Cindy Sherman, Barbara Kruger, and Jean-Michel Basquiat. The museum is described as the 'Broadway of the L.A. art scene' where all the biggest hits are showcased. A must-visit attraction is Yayoi Kusama’s ‘Infinity Mirror Rooms’." - Travel + Leisure Editors
"When it opened in 2015, this museum drew headlines for its extensive contemporary art collection and Diller Scofidio + Renfro–designed building, which resembles a futuristic honeycomb. Then a single exhibition catapulted it into fame: artist Yayoi Kusama’s installation of thousands of twinkling LED lights called Infinity Mirrored Room—The Souls of Millions of Light Years Away . (The artist’s follow-up, Longing for Eternity , opened in 2017.) There’s plenty to be dazzled by in this museum founded by philanthropists Eli and Edythe Broad. Hundreds of skylights illuminate the column-free third floor’s permanent galleries—featuring the Broads’ considerable collection of pieces by Kara Walker, Barbara Kruger, Jasper Johns, and Jean-Michel Basquiat. Insiders know to visit on weekdays for the most relaxed experience or around major holidays and occasions such as Halloween and International Women’s Day for engaging and sometimes provocative tours. Pro tip: Though general admission tickets are free, it’s wise to book tickets online ahead when they’re released on the first of each month for the following month, especially if you’re taking a date or going with a group (the same goes for Kusama’s rooms). At least two weeks out, request a before- or after-hours guided group tour of one hour, not including the Infinity Mirrored Room . And make sure to also book reservations at Otium, the trendsetting restaurant by Chef Timothy Hollingsworth located next to the Broad."

"COVID-19 update: Temporarily closed, but an incredible virtual offering including their Time Decorated Series, which digs into artists and their influences via a video medium. The Broad Family Workshops series of at-home video tutorials hits home for middle school, junior high, and even high school kids interested in the arts. Each video opens by showing pieces by an artist whose work is hanging at the museum, then leads kids through a project in that artist’s style. With ten videos and counting, get ready for Elliot Hundley collage work, conceptual art in the style of Barbara Kruger, a 3D structure à la Yayoi Kusama, and more. Older kids can do most projects solo, but to avoid frustration, involve the little ones as a family. Photo: Iwan Baan. Courtesy The Broad.
