Talea Brewery, a female-owned gem in Greenpoint, offers innovative brews, delicious snacks, and cozy vibes with ample outdoor seating.
"If sours are your thing, then Talea should be on your list. They’re growing rapidly, but the original taproom in Williamsburg is the one to visit if you want a large outdoor area and patio, and a rotation of pop-ups and food events. Like most breweries, they do flights, but unlike most breweries, you could do a full flight at Talea with a different sour in each slot, where each is nuanced and not overly fruity or sweet. Throw in an impressive roster of to-go cans and a short walk to McCarren Park, and we’re sold." - neha talreja, will hartman, molly fitzpatrick, willa moore
"Bonnie’s Seafood Shack @ Talea Williamsburg / Sundays, July 7-28, 12-6pm We bet you didn’t think that a trendy Cantonese restaurant was going to fulfill your Cape Cod dreams this summer, but Bonnie’s is on it. They’re bringing a summer seafood shack of sorts to Williamsburg with a pop-up series at Talea. Get ready for salt and pepper clam and calamari rolls, beancurd lobster rolls, and more, every Sunday in July. Talea will take both reservations and walk-ins, but we suspect that it's going to be an extremely popular series, so plan accordingly. " - neha talreja
"Hailed as New York City's first female- and veteran-operated brewery, TALEA is named for its owners, Tara Hankinson and LeAnn Darland. The two former homebrewers opened this 9,000-square-foot space in 2021 and now have three other taprooms across the city. Locals fill the tables at the airy Williamsburg flagship, meeting for birthday parties, afternoon hangs, or the chance to try one of the new drafts on the sours-heavy rotating tap list. TALEA is best known for its sour beers, like the pleasantly briny Watermelon Splash and Fan Fan Tart Deco, a sour IPA named for beloved Brooklyn bakery Fan Fan Donuts. There are also light lagers, pilsners, hazy IPAs, and non-alcoholic beers, as well as wine and cocktails from a full bar." - Emily Saladino, Devra Ferst
"In an entirely self-serving way, we hope no one else finds out about Talea. Based out of , the women-owned brewery runs several taprooms in Brooklyn, as well as this bright, pleasant West Village outpost on Christopher Street. Filled with pastel and art and lots of little tables, it’s a great alternative to all the overcrowded bars in the area serving $20 cocktails. They have a great lineup of sours, stouts, and IPAs, and you can also get a glass of wine, an espresso martini, or a 10-inch bavarian pretzel. is right next door, so plan on grabbing a slice before or after." - Bryan Kim
"Talea is one of New York’s only women-owned breweries. The company’s mission: to win back beer lovers who were scared off by bitter IPAs — and the bros who drink them. The brewery specializes in easy-to-drink beers with lower alcohol content: There are six sours on the menu, mixed with ingredients like watermelon and raspberry, and IPAs whose tasting notes are “mango smoothie” and “pink Smarties.” Talea also has a taproom in Cobble Hill. Locations are slated for Bryant Park and the West Village as well." - Luke Fortney, Eater Staff
