Bright and vibrant, this charming eatery in Barnsbury serves up innovative British brunch and dinner, with the added perk of outdoor seating.
"At Sunday, an all-day cafe in Islington, the clue is in the name. It’s the place to go for excellent, fluffy brioche french toast when you can’t be bothered to cook, wash away any apprehension about the impending week with frothy lattes, and have one last sleepy hurrah—courtesy of a courgette fritter—before Monday hits. We’ve been solo, and nursed a plate of scrambled eggs with a friend. Just choose someone you can trust to share the half portion of pancakes. " - jake missing, rianne shlebak, sinead cranna
"Sunday is the sort of place that every neighbourhood needs, or wants. Atop spot for a weekend brunch, with imaginative & ever changing dishes. Also perfect for an affordable and interesting dinner. The menu changes daily & on a sunny day you can sit out front. Excellent coffee too." - Present & Correct
"Ask anyone in Islington where they go for brunch, and you’re almost sure to hear about Sunday. One of the hottest places in Barnsbury, this breakfast/brunch/lunch place is always packed out at weekends—and sometimes even during the week. It’s worth queuing, even in the rain, for consistently well-executed standard dishes and a few more out-of-the-ordinary ones. The pancakes are some of Islington’s fluffiest and the eggs benedict is awesome. Just... be patient." - jake missing
"With Sunday, an all-day cafe in Islington, the clue is in the name. It’s the place to go for excellent, fluffy brioche french toast when you can’t be bothered to cook, wash away any apprehension about the impending week with smooth, frothy lattes, and have one last sleepy hurrah courtesy of a moreish courgette fritter before Monday hits. We’ve been solo and nursed a plate of scrambled eggs and split a half portion of pancakes with a friend—just choose someone you can trust to share. It’s always a good time and the food doesn’t disappoint. Know if you come on the weekend, you will queue. Locals and the bleary-eyed line up in search of tasty food and the smug satisfaction that comes from knowing great weeks start with Sunday. photo credit: Aleksandra Boruch photo credit: Aleksandra Boruch photo credit: Aleksandra Boruch" - Sinéad Cranna
"Go early. That’s pretty much the only useful piece of advice for those bent on avoiding what can be one of the city’s fiercest queues, and a particularly brutal one for those yet to get their daily fix of caffeine. Once through the door, any further advice is moot — there really aren’t that many ways to go far wrong with a breakfast and brunch menu so long on inventive-but-still-comforting dishes like buttermilk pancakes and corn fritters. Anything involving smoked haddock, whether a chowder, or a ludicrously restorative riff on Welsh rarebit, may well be the best possible course of action; a side of banana bread should also be mandatory. Do not plan any strenuous activity for the afternoon." - James Hansen
