"The story of this quaint shop parallels the resilience of its namesake plant. Formerly a video rental store, the owners cleverly evolved their shop by first testing a small succulent alcove in the backyard. Within a year, the plants had won the battle and Succulence was born. Their beautiful backyard is filled with quirky sculptures and lovely plants. As the highlight of this store — it transports you to another place. Succulence offers a variety of workshops & classes to build your own little bit of green (terrarium and vertical gardening, for example). They also have local jewelry and lots of lovely toys and books that make perfect gifts." - Strohl

Super knowledgeable, attentive and excited staff ready to suggest and advise on any terrarium project you may have. Wide and unique selection of succulents, indoor tropicals and carnivorous plants as well as colored rocks, mosses and sands to liven up a display. Tasteful selection of pots. Suggestion to come with pictures of your place and diameter of any plants you’re considering to replant as it will help with advising.

Google
Their succulent workshops are so fun! Also a great place to find a gift or supplies for planting your own succulents. Knowledgeable and friendly... Definitely worth a trip to Bernal Heights.

Google
This succulent store has a cute patio in the back with lots of unusual succulents that I haven’t found at most plant places. They also had a good selection of pots to hold your plants, all colors, sizes and shapes (including Dinos!) One of the employees said that they host “make your own plant arrangement” classes.

10/4/2024: I'd been looking forward to visiting Succulence for months, ever since my plant collection exploded with a particular fondness for succulents. I happened to be in the Bernal Heights neighborhood, so decided to finally check them out. Unfortunately, when I arrived I discovered a karate school at the address listed for Succulence. A lady inside told me they had been closed since sometime in June. The owners have responded to other comments, stating that despite the closure of their brick and mortar store you can still contact them regarding workshops and other events. Closing a business is incredibly difficult, and I'm glad to hear they're still up and running (even if it's at a reduced capacity). To those leaving negative reviews because they arrived to find the store closed: stop. For you it's a minor inconvenience, but for the owners it's so much more. That said, it would be helpful if they added a banner on the website's homepage letting customers know the physical store closed. I wish them the best with their future ventures, and hope I get the opportunity to visit another Succulence location someday.

Google
Fantastic selection of succulents, pots, and house plants at a great price. Very knowledgeable and helpful staff. Widest variety of any place I've been to in SF, better even than Flora+Grubb. I made the photographed planting myself. I don't see a reason to go anywhere else!

Google
This place is so cute! Perfect for a fun and interactive date. You can build your own terrariums or plant plants in all sorts of containers. You can bring your own container and/or plant if you want and just pay to plant it at the plant bar. They provide soil and rocks and decor for your planter as well included with the planter bar fee ($10 for a 4” container, add $2 per inch I think is the pricing). They also have classes for more advanced vertical planters as well as basic classes. You can go in and just buy plants if you want. There’s a big selection. They also sell salt lamps, soaps, water bottles, socks, and other knick knacks. The woman who assisted us (I think her name was Eye), was so so friendly and helpful. Can’t wait to come back for a class with my friends! I didn’t end up planting in the store for lack of time, but here is my final product in the photo. I got the bulbasaur planters on amazon and the plants from Succulence.

Google
An incredible gem in Bernal! Such friendly, welcoming and knowledgeable staff with a beautiful selection of all sizes of houseplants. Their prices are affordable for plants, pots, etc. they even took the time to pot my new purchase despite it being a bit busy in the store.

Google
What a place for succulent fans! I feel like in heaven of succulent when I stepped in the backyard garden. And we had so much fun in the terrarium building class. Our instructor went over the steps on how to make terrarium detailedly. We can choose up to 4 succulence and any kind of sand, stones, and moss. We also went through the predilection of each kind of succulent that we selected and learn how to take care of them. We have a wonderful experience here and definitely will come back for the cute little succulents and plants.

Yelp
I'm devastated to hear that Succulence is closing! I've always stopped by whenever I walk down Cortland to admire their beautiful plant collection. The plants are really healthy and they have a wide range of pots and moss planters for sale as well as other plant-y trinkets. The prices are a bit expensive, but for the value and care provided, I feel it's well worth it. The employees have always been really kind and helpful. I've gone just to ask for help and advice on plants I've purchased there, and plants I didn't, and I've always walked away feeling more ready to tackle my plant concerns. They're currently having a final sale event with almost everything 35% off -- so stop by to check out what they have left, say a tearful goodbye, and pick up a sticker to remember them by! Bernal Heights will miss you!

Yelp
Came for a private group activity and really enjoyed the experience! You will start by selecting your vessel. Succulence offers a good variety from glass terrariums, classic ceramic pots, to vertical gardens or mossy rocks in all different sizes. Some vessels are a flat rate whereas others are build by the minute (yes, you read this right). There were also many varieties of succulents and cacti to choose from. The staff will walk you through compatibility between plants and also compatibility with your work schedule/ability to care for your new plant babies. You will pay for each plant separately as well. In the planting activity, everything is provided for you - tools, gloves, a rainbow assortment of sand and rocks, moss, driftwood...whatever you can imagine! I love my final product! I also really enjoyed the activity overall BUT I also admit that it was a little pricier than what my friends and I originally thought (because we didn't know about the time rate). It's definitely something to keep in mind if you choose to build at Succulence.

Yelp
So grateful for this Mother's Day gift from our daughters. We all love playing with plants and don't normally venture to the City so this was special. We had good parking karma thankfully because it's a busy neighborhood. Sandy, who is the resident artist brought great energy and knowledge to our class. We each received a glass globe and got to pick out 4 plants to start. Next we set the base of the terrarium with basically anything we wanted from their wall of stuff which includes sands, rocks and mosses. Great variety of quality items to choose from. With some instructions from Sandy we were all set to create our beauties. Anyone who participates in the class gets 15% off most items in the store. I bought a small globe and a couple of air plants. Our terrarium requires very little water and indirect light. Can't wait to hang mine up. Definitely give this place a try. The neighborhood has lots of music including outside of this shop. Very lively! Please support this local business.

Yelp
Super cute, local plant store. They carry majority succulents and cactus but still carry some other houseplants. They have a very big collection of pots here, big bonus because not many places offer the amount of sizes, colors and style of pots they offer. I recently came by and had them repot a plant for me, they did an amazing job! Great service and value. They also offer classes here to make plant terrariums, potting and more. Parking is very easy in this quiet, Bernal Heights neighborhood.

Gabe Y.

Yelp
Always great to come here. Cute cards, plants, rocks, pots, and jewelry. Their service is just the right amount of attentive but giving space. So much good advice on any plant you ask about. I love that they have a help email if you ever are worried about your plant. Got a sweet whale fin and pup for $65 (pretty competitively priced), a sweet deserty pot, and a cute opossum card I've been eying forever. Other information to add is that their small succulents are generally $5 and that their terrarium class/planting bar is top tier. A little pricey but supporting local artists and businesses with staff that's friendly is great.

Yelp
Ken is amazing! Truly wonderful experience. Highly recommend for team building. Thank you so much!

Andrew C.

Yelp
I love this place. I bought a terrarium from them about two years ago, and recently brought it back to have it spruced up, and they did an amazing job. They're not cheap, but the quality is top-notch, and worth every penny.

Esther G.

Yelp
Recently got obsessed with succulents and saw this place on Yelp. It's succulent heaven here!! You can tell how much love and care they put into their plants. No sad looking plants here! I spent too much money here but totally worth it. I bought a few terrariums for gift and plants for myself. The staff took care in packing everything and everything make it back safely. Placed succulent care instructions with terrariums. They also offer classes if you're interested. There's some succulents I've never seen before. I was hoping to get another bear paw succulent here but didn't see it. Definitely will come back here if I want more succulents!

Yelp
Amazing people! Amazing place for a birthday party! Truly the best at what they do! They really go the extra mile to make your day! Details: I was a last minute cancel to my friend's birthday at Succulence due to COVID. (Womp womp.) I called to ask if they could arrange a gift for the birthday girl in my absence - and they did an amazing job on the fly! Mary and Caitlyn (please forgive spelling) flew in to action. Not only did they remember my friend from a previous visit - they specifically remembered that she loved pink! They potted a pink plant for her, with a recommended plant stand. I trusted their judgment and was delighted to receive a video text of my friend opening her gift saying: "It's pink, like me! And it has a beautiful plant stand - I love it!" Thank you Mary, Caitlyn and Succulence. I'm telling everyone about you and I'll be back as soon as I can! :)

Yelp
This place is heaven if you're a succulent lover! They have everything you need to start your succulent world. Some might be on the very expensive side, but there are also the more affordable ones for beginners. They keep the whole store so clean and makes succulent shopping a really good experience.

Yelp
Love love love this store, the plants, and the folks who work here. I came in looking for a plant for my office. I described the lighting conditions and they pointed me to some lovely calatheas that they thought would do well. There is also a planting bar, and they helped me repot the plant and taught me how to check the soil so I won't overwater the plant. I then came in again to look for succulents for a planter. Again, someone pointed me to the best succulents for the particular space and lighting, and packaged them nicely so it was super easy for me to bring them home. The staff are super helpful in guiding you if you need it, and their plants are all very high quality and well cared for (no half dying trader joes' plants here!). This is the only store I buy my plants from!

Sammy L.

Yelp
Such a fun plant shop! They have a lot of different types of houseplants not just succulents. The pot selection is quite unique with an assortment of different sizes. We all know plants are easy to buy but picking out the right pots is just a whole different game, so the more options the better. When you walk in it feels pretty cozy, the shop is longer than wide. You are enveloped into plant heaven. As you make yourself towards the back, there is a little outdoor area with all the cute succulents. You will be saying, "ohhh cute" every few minutes. I had to leave the kid and husband in the car so that I can fully browse happily with no one to rush me. The varigated string of hearts and the varigated bear paw were on my wishlist, I refused to buy them online due to the price gouging. So I waited patiently and told myself I'd be able to find them in a nursery locally, I was right. Found them right in this amazing shop. Come support your local small business, you won't be disappointed!

Yelp
Pictures is worth a thousand word. I been to many plant/gardens/succulent store and no other store can outmatch this one! This is my favorite place to get all my succulent! There are so many succulent to pick from. Decent price and I can spend hours here just walking and picking out the succulent I want. I am here every other month for succulent to add to my garden!

Tiffany W.

Yelp
Super cute shop with good selection of pots, helpful staff, and some cool plants. Plus it is a good excuse to go hang out in Bernal Heights.

Samatar J.

Yelp
I really love this place, such great energy and helpfulness from the employees in my many questions. They have so many fantastic succulents that I want to buy and have bought, so many great choices available. Really affordable prices. They have a large selection of terrarium glassware. I was able to use to repot mine that got broken. One of my favorite plant store finds since moving to the Bay Area, love this place so much! Coming back soon enough!

Yelp
Our company's properties manager brought out Seth to do a terrarium class for the tenets for Earth-day. It was a 2 hour class where he gave us information about succulents and terrariums and then gave us a step by step walk though of how to put ours together. For our class, he had us choose 3-4 succulents for our terrarium. For the drainage layer, we had 3 different colors of sand to choose from (white, black, or purple) and 4 different colors of rocks to choose from (white, black, a greenish white, and a earth tone collection of colors). There were also different colors of larger rocks and reindeer moss that we can accent our terrariums with. He then showed us how to put/arrange the different types of succulents into our terrarium... then set us loose. As we were working on our terrariums, Seth would walk around and give us pointers and help us if we needed it. Tbh with the very clear instructions, everyone was able to create very unique and beautiful pieces. I really do wanna give a shout out to Seth as he made the whole experience super fun. He would crack jokes to lighten the mood but also use it to convey important information. He also went around a hyped up our terrariums which made us all feel good about ourselves. Couldn't have asked for a better experience.

Yelp
One if THE best plant and garden centers in San Francisco. In comparison to Sloat Garden Center - Marina/Cow Hollow and Flora Grubb, Succulence is HANDS DOWN the place to go for top notch customer service, wide variety of plants, and The Plant Bar. I stumbled upon Succulence after my trip to Little Bee Baking for Bernal Bakery's pop-up (don't sleep on their chocolate chip cookies). I am new to the plant world and in the process of creating a bathroom jungle. Succulence's layout is beautiful, serene, and peaceful, with a covered greenhouse full of cacti, ferns, and other flowering plants. Their main area encapsulates their cash registers, tropical plants, crystals for purchase, and The Plant Bar, which is where I found myself after learning about my new plant - Nepenthes, a tropical and carnivorous pitcher plant. I wanted a compliment to my Calathea Mayokana (peacock plant), and the individual who helped me pick out the pitcher plant is so INCREDIBLY knowledgeable, helpful, and patient. He guided me through several plants that could be a friend to my calathea and when I asked which plants were also non-toxic to cats, he knew immediately which plants were appropriate. After picking out my pitcher plant, I asked if the store could repot for me. The plant specialist quickly led me to The Plant Bar, assembled his moss, soil, and bark, and began building the pitcher plant's "living" space, acknowledging that the plant loves a combination of moss, soil, and bark; he also told me that pitcher plants like long drinks of water, and to soak my plant in water so the water travels UP the roots rather than being drenched from the top; he even went as far to tell me to allow the plant to sit in water for 15-20 minutes. The Plant Bar is also where Succulence hosts group events and parties; I can honestly say the plant specialist will make you feel right at home and never make you feel like you asked a dumb question. The owner is fantastic, too! He is fun, knowledgeable, and genuinely interested in helping you take care of your new and pre-existing plant babies. I believe, for a fee, you can bring plants not purchased at Succulence for evaluation and re-potting. I love you Succulence! I cannot wait to come back in!

Joellen C.

Yelp
This store specializes in offering a wide succulent variety (dedicated an entire greenhouse in the back to just succulents) & overpriced handmade/hand painted pottery ($88-$98). As interesting as the pots were, they were quite small and the price did not justify the design. I've been to a lot of plant nurseries and to be quite frank these succulents were pretty dull and not as plump or vibrant as I had hoped. I appreciate the wide variety but If you're going to charge $4.00-$9.00 for a small 2" succulent, I'd rather have a healthy looking one.

Robert M.

Yelp
Highly recommend for a small gift or better yet, to beautify your own home. Tasteful selection of succulents and indoor plants. Truly unique and colorful moss, pebble and planter selection. Giftware, including an impressive display of crystals and a cultivated selection of greeting cards, make this boutique a hidden jewel

Zay T.

Yelp
Amazing shop that is packed, front to back, with indoor plants of all varieties: succulents, cacti, and other house plants! Good: * Large selection of plants! There is something in here for everyone. * Range of prices to fit everyone's budgets! Some as low as under $10, and then some rarer/more specialty plants. From what I saw, they can range from under $10 - $50s. * The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. They are really great about reaching out to customers in a non-pushy, helpful way. Everyone I spoke to seamlessly wove knowledge into the conversation (ie. lighting, microclimates, watering, etc) * The plants are well organized and healthy! They take very good care of their plants *They offer repotting services, even for plants not purchases at the store, for a small fee * Cool accessories like artisan pots, macrame hangers, jewelry, and socks. Seems like a good place to shop for gifts. Feedback: * Work on consistency with business practices among staff : - I was on my way to the gym today, and the first staff member I spoke to told me that I could purchase my plants and then pick them up either after my workout or the next day... Vs - The staff member who helped me during check out was reluctant about letting me pick up my plants after the gym/the next day. It was a bit embarrassing for me because the first employee volunteered that service, a later pick up. So I was a bit uncomfortable/confused when the employee at check out told, during the same visit, that a later pick up wasn't something they did. My gym is up the street, and she told me it wouldn't be possible since they close at 5:30 (it was around 4 pm), and I would have only been 40 minutes gone. This staff member wasn't rude, the exact opposite, but it was a confusing experience. So my feedback is to make sure that everyone is on the same page with business practices so that customers don't get confused or uncomfortable. Other than that feedback, this is a great store with a wonderful staff and a diverse selection of happy plants!

Teresa L.

Yelp
Can't believe it's been 10 years, so amazing to watch this shop get built out. Allot of true radios for the nerds, Sweet edit of pot and verticals. Back greenhouse should not be missed!

Liz B.

Yelp
All around fun time at Succulence! My group took a class on moss and vertical gardening which was a nice surprise at how much fun it was. The shop is small but is full of things from plants to crystals to incense to jewelry to pottery. The instructor was very welcoming and fun and extremely knowledgeable about plants and such. He took us through the different types of plants, moss, how to water and take care of them and the different problems you might come across. It was really interesting and cool how much goes into this type of science and gardening. And he made it fun and not intimidating to make our own hanging gardens. Picking out plants was probably the best part. There were so many little succulents to choose from, it was great. From long stemmed ones to prickly little squat ones, you wanted to choose them all! We also got to use colorful moss to decorate the cages too. It was calming digging through the dirt and potting and replanting succulents. Great idea for a class to get in touch with your green thumb and nature!

Eri K.

Yelp
So many different types of succulents! This is definitely a cute date place to make your own succulents. Came here on a Saturday around 3pm and it was fairly slow. The staff were friendly and answered any questions we had. I will definitely come back again when I'm in the city :-)

Mito I.

Yelp
My team reserved a terrarium building event, and we arrived around 4pm. This was my first time entering the store, and it was a cute and picturesque shop. Plants, of course, but there were various attractive plant pots, crystals, and minerals sold there that I was tempted to try. There was a square open bar table area, and this is where the event was held. There were 13 of us, and there were available seating (despite an extra 13th person came along at the last minute), and there was still enough leg room. The instructor was very thorough with how to create this terrarium. He told us the basic steps first, while also explaining the reason why we were instructed to do this. He loved to say plant puns, and some I was able to get (very quirky). He also carefully explained how to water the succulents and gave advice on where to place them in the home or office space. I had a great time here, and maybe I will visit again to check out plants.

Remo R.

Yelp
A newbie to this plant scene , the ambiance was perfect . Quite , chill , nobody hounding you about buying a plant , just you and a bunch of plants ready for destiny . On the plus side , 2 very approachable humans stand by ready to answer any questions you might have and not once did I feel rushed or pressured . If I could give more than 5 stars I would : my plants are thriving by the way

Tass S.

Yelp
This is the CUTEST shop! The inside was very quiet -- they do a good job of limiting the amount of people inside. On top of that, it's required that we sanitize our hands before entering. Inside the store is a wide array of crystals, crazy patterned socks, adorable greeting cards, and non-succulent items for the everyday succulent fanatic. Best of all, the inside displayed some beautiful handmade pottery items as well as some standard pots. Outside was truly where it was at: levels upon levels of succulents. There were some that I've never seen before. If you're interested in getting a LOT of succulents, they have deals for you depending on how many trays you purchase. I just bought 4 tiny ones for $4 each since I'm traveling. Lastly, the customer service was great. The employees came out to check if I was doing okay and moved items around for me to make sure I didn't bump into anything. 100% would give this business my support again!!

James H.

Yelp
This was my first time in a succulent store and they have a lot of interesting items. The back area has plenty of them to choose from if you want to make your own creation. I saw a display in front of a small globe that I liked but just not the rocks in it. The staff said I could make my own at the bar and that was perfect for a gift. Basically for assistance in making a succulent of your own, it is a 15 minute minimum for $1 a minute. Then the staff will help you arrange the globe with colored sand, soil, colored rocks, then you can choose a few mini succulents to put in there. All in all, it was a quick and easy experience that was a few bucks cheaper than buying a prearranged one. Staff were friendly and helpful. Cards are welcome and street parking only.

Tiffany H.

Yelp
Even though the golden poppy is the official flower of California, succulents are basically the unofficial flowers--er, plants--of San Francisco. The City boasts a lot of plant shops and I think they're all magical in their own way...but we have been finding ourselves coming back to Succulence over and over again. Maybe because the plants I have bought from here are the only ones that have yet to die on me! So far we have gotten a huge burrito plant, a medium-sized pachyphytum, a small single-leaf sweetheart hoya, and four mini succulents. And just when I think my collection is complete, I go back and there's yet another one calling to me! However what's really special about Succulence are the workers. Everyone is super cheerful and extremely helpful. The store also offers terrarium-making classes and we were super fortunate to be taught by Seth, who is sparkling and amazing! We brought our own glassware and plants--but of course you could purchase theirs and use those instead--and for what I think is a dollar a minute (the total for me came to be $30 for a half hour) you are taught how to start up a terrarium and decorate it with unlimited access to colorful sand, rocks, and moss! It was the most fun thing ever and I learned more about how to care for my plants.

Liz Z.

Yelp
I have recently taken my interest in succulents to the next level and was thrilled to find this local spot! The staff are friendly and knowledgeable, there are so many plants to choose from and there is everything and anything you might possibly need. This shop even offers workshops! I cannot wait to go back and to even look into bulk ordering for our upcoming wedding.

Brenda K.

Yelp
It is a real treat to have Succulence nearby - they always have a great rotating collection of house plants that are unique and affordable. Their plants are by far healthier than others, when compared to larger home improvement stores, Amazon, etc. Their staff is always generous with tips and tidbits, especially in helping identify animal-safe choices (meow meow), and is always genuinely so friendly. I look forward to the health crisis being over, as sometimes popping your head into the store brings a small joy to the week. However, I'm happy to hear that they are still offering their inventory by way of delivery and look forward to our next batch.

Polly W.

Yelp
Couldn't rave enough about The Succulence! Seth came down to Mountain View to facilitate a Terrarium building workshop for our team offsite. We learned so much, shared laughs and created beautiful terrariums to take home and care for. Pricing was very reasonable and I found this to be a tremendous value. Hope to work with them again when we have a different team's offsite.

Tina O.

Yelp
Wow = what an amazing place. A gift shop in front and a fabulous succulent garden sale in the back. A tad pricing but lovely healthy succulents - lots of variety - i bought a bunch! Helpful staff - check it out and check out my pics!

Cristina S.

Yelp
5 stars for our company offsite and for our instructor, Seth! Seth was super knowledgeable, funny, and patient with our large (and sometimes rambunctious) group. He gave us a great overview of how to care for succulents which was helpful for someone like me who seems to kill every plant I own. He also answered our questions about non-succulents and is clearly knows a lot about plants. We set out to the garden to pick the succulents for the vertical gardens we were going to make. There was a huge variety - I had no idea. This part took the longest time, because there were a lot of us (20+) and most wanted to get the *perfect* succulents. Seth walked us through step by step how to assemble our gardens, going into detail for different types of plants and moss, and was attentive and available to lend a hand or design eye. He even made a garden for a colleague who signed up but wasn't able to make it. We had a table behind us with drinks and snacks, but mostly for the end as everyone was pretty involved in the garden-making process. Also, the space is tight and if you're like me, there will be dirt everywhere (don't wear dry clean only). The staff was super great about swooping in at the end and cleaning up our mess, thank you! We all also spent time at the end perusing the shop, which has all kinds of interesting plants and holders you'll want to buy to beautify your home, as well as some random items you wouldn't expect (berets, anyone?) I'm neither a gardener nor creative and I think my vertical garden turned out pretty great :) Many team members said this was one of their favorite offsite activities.

Mark B.

Yelp
Great place if you're looking for succulents! I was looking for a succulent to gift a friend for Christmas and the staff help me choose the perfect gift. My friend loved it! the boobie cactus ftw

Brad C.

Yelp
This place has an outstanding collection of plants. Sure you will find you standard selection of succulents and cactus but there are some rare and awesome looking plants I just dont see anywhere else. I came in with a list of plants I was hoping to find and they pretty much had everything on my list. Please check them out.

Regina W.

Yelp
Dropped by Succulence with a friend a couple months ago. I was surprised how busy the store was - but maybe I shouldn't have been, hearing about the boom in houseplants since COVID started. They did limit the number of people in the store and everyone was wearing masks, which I appreciated. What makes Succulence stand apart from other nurseries is their outdoor selection of succulents. They have a lot of small plants, which you can use for arrangements. I haven't seen a nursery in the Bay rival their succulent selection besides Cactus Jungle in Berkeley (but they're a trek away). I noticed Succulence had a sign saying they do workshops to make your own plant arrangement - I don't know how it works during this time, but arrangements certainly seem to be their specialty. If you're not into succulent arrangements, they also have a nice assortment of indoor plants, pottery, and decorative items (such as geodes). They even have airplants. My only gripe is I felt prices were high - but I haven't been to a plant store since 2018 and it seems to be an overall industry trend. Every plant I saw was in excellent condition as well. If I had to guess, I'd say prices are reasonable given plant rarity, health, and general market conditions. If your apartment isn't already chock-full of green babies, I'd recommend supporting Succulence over your big-box nursery. Staff are helpful and would definitely set you up with something great.

Yelp
I had a horrible experience when visiting this shop for the first time. The staff immediately seemed uncomfortable with my mother and I being in the store. We were greeted when we walked in, offered hand sanitizer but soon notice that we were only people in the store being followed. As two Black women this is apparent that it was because of our race. (We were the only Blacks in the shop) We were friendly, dressed well and looking to update our yard. Nothing we did would indicated that we were some how "shady". I didn't even have a bag or purse. One of the girls walked everywhere we went and as we walked to the back she suddenly needed to water the plants right next two us. Conveniently facing us as she did . While other customers (who were White) freely roamed the shop. Without any concern from the staff. I will never set foot in here again due to this experience. After having this experience, the owner Ken did reach out to me and apologies. I am happy to know that they do not promote discrimination. I would like to see them revisit their training for the staff to make sure they are not singling out anyone for any reason. I accept his apology. He seems genuine, also he was not present at the time. Hopefully they can make the changes needed.

Yelp
Seth, you rocked our world! Thank you so much for coming down to campus last week and helping my amazing Admin team have the most fun Administrative appreciation day celebration making succulent terrariums. The event was seamless, even with such a large group! The supplies, plants, rocks, lichen, dirt, sand, charcoal, vessels, etc were all AMAZING! The whole experience is something I would do again and again! What a great thing to do for a team-building activity, birthday, or a fun activity for friends/family! Seth, you were so knowledgable from the basics of building a terrarium and good succulent health/conditions, all the way to making each unique terrarium pop! Your humor was sooooooooo appreciated and we were really lichen your punny sense of humor! Cannot wait to get back to my "spatula" and "wand" and get more magical terrariums created!

Yelp
This place is really aesthetic and full of plant things. I was impressed with their selection they got almost everything plant related. I was there with my friend to pick out a housewarming gift for our other friend who moved to sf. We asked for recommendations and everyone there was friendly and knowledgeable about their craft. We decided to go for a custom potting for the most personalized feel. We chose 3 small indoor succulents and a recommended 4 inch pot. The dude walked us through the process and arranged the plants very nicely. Overall a very cool experience. It's pretty bougie though (36$ for a 4inch potted plant) so obviously don't go here if you're just trying to get a plant and dip. They have a planting bar that is priced 10$ per planting plus 2$ per inch over I think 3 inches? The experience and exploring the shop was really cool though.

Yelp
One of the best plant shops I have been to in SF. They have a wide selection, helpful employees, and the shop itself is well curated. They even have a build your own plant bar where you can customize your own plant and hold events (great birthday party or corporate event spot). Highly recommend this place looking to get great quality plants.

Yelp
Since my first review, back in 2011, things have changed here and for the better! The video shop is gone and they occupy the entire store and garden area in back. I have nothing to add to the broad and beautiful array of plants. But want to say that this is the place to go for planters and flower pots. Many are hand made and made in Northern CA. I called on a whim, hoping I wouldn't need to go to Sloat or Flora Grubb (two stores I don't like) I was surprised that so many of them were for regular houseplants, there are not all tiny and for succulents or cactus. Today I bought a beautiful stand and 9 inch pot and saucer - Sandy helped me, and she's great. They are on-it for making you use hand sanitizer (yours or theirs) upon entry. See Sandy!

Yelp
The only reason I cannot give this place 5 stars is because its pretty expensive compared to some other shops in SF. However, I love this place, it has such a great selection of succulents and cacti! The decor is huge and they have a -ton- of plants to choose from, including air plants, indoor/outdoor plants, all sizes too. They also support local artists pots and decor - such as socks, planters, watering containers, etc. Their air plants are really great, such a wide selection and all very healthy. for the most part, the plants I've gotten from here are fairly healthy. Further, they have a really nice decorating station where you can create your own little succulent gardens/also a huge online shop where you can buy the materials and pick them up quite easily. I recommenced this store if you are a cactus, succulent fan and are okay with spending a bit more money on something that's unique.

Yelp
Succulence lures me into their shop every time I pass it and each time I get a respite from my busy day. Why Succulence Entices +'s: + Merchandise. The variety of pots, vases, and succulents do not overwhelm. Rather it is a slow and relaxing lure that ends in the rear where all the lovely plants grow. + Classes. After repeated visits since I am always on Cortland, I caught sight of a flyer to take classes with Seth. I took the vertical gardening class with no xp and absolutely LOVED the class. Learned so much and had so much fun! I got to take home my own little vertical garden! + Service. I don't feel pressured to buy. I can browse. If I have a question, I am greeted warmly. + Prices. I didn't balk at anything and their prices are competitive. Besides it's good to support your local store. I did some price comparisons on some items and Succulence is cheaper than Amazon or other local nurseries. + Seth. Yes I mentioned him earlier but there's a reason why he gets called out again. He is helpful at the store. He does not make one feel bad for past plant killings. He is very knowledgeable about these plants and has an eye. His art history education comes into play when I needed help with my vertical garden design. Why Succulence Deters -'s: - Why would it? If you have always wanted to add green to your home then I recommend taking a class. It eases the journey on how to add living art to your home that requires some basic knowledge but not a master degree. TIP: It may be cheaper to make your succulent arrangement than to buy one.

Yelp
Love love love this place! Succulence is a cute little plant shop with a great selection and reasonable prices. There are a variety of pots and decorations in the front and the cutest greenhouse-esque garden in the back. The 4 inch planters were around $8 and the 2inch ones were $4. Not bad! They have a planting bar where you can customize your plants and planters with different pebbles, moss, sand, etc. They also offer a variety of classes like teaching on how to make a plant wall or terrarium. I walked out of the store with a cute little flowering cactus (mammillaria fukaui) and will definitely be back!

Yelp
I decided to use an old glass jar to do a terrarium and than realized stay at home didn't make it easy to shop for plants so googled and made an appointment for a FaceTime shopping consultation and between a very helpful call to help me pick out a plant that would work, soil, and moss plus curbside pickup I got some life in an under corner of my living room during that makes me happy!

Yelp
First time in this store. I was disappointed with the succulent display inside the store until I realize they have a lot more in the back garden. I love the variety of different types of succulents and some of them I have not seen at other local stores. There prices are very reasonable. They range from $4 up to $16 based on their sizes. Personally, I like to get the small ones so I can grow them myself. I picked up 9 for a total of $40. The staff at the store are very friendly and helpful. They checked in with us regularly to see if we need help but they also allow us enough privacy to look around on our own. One of the succulents I asked for was out of stock, the lady offered to take down my number and call when she has it. This kind of personal service is hard to find nowadays. I used to go to the one on Bayshore for my succulents and other plants. This will be my go to place for succulents from now on.

Yelp
I had a surprisingly fun time with friends and others over Succulence workshop hosted by the engaging, punny, and kind Seth. The process was the most fun. During the pandemic, I'm glad to have taken part in this. You should, too! Especially if you have friends not based in SF. There were friends connecting from Miami, the Midwest as well as local supporters of the shop.

Yelp
COVID got me collecting plants...and I've been visiting nurseries almost weekly in the City. Succulence has been my favorite place so far because of their great selection and friendly staff. Their store may seem small, but they always have a fantastic variety of succulents, houseplants, and accessories. I don't know where they source their plants but they always look super healthy (and I think they take good care of them!). I absolutely love some of the uncommon finds that they carried: lithops, variegated string of hearts, million hearts, philodendron birkins, and the swiss cheese plant. They also have a sizable collection of plant pots. It's impossible not to spend $ every time I visit, however I think their price is very reasonable for a place in the City. I highly recommend Succulence if you're looking for plants that will make you happy.
