Stout is your go-to gastropub in Hollywood, where inventive burgers meet a stellar craft beer selection in a chill atmosphere—perfect for late-night cravings.
"Were the Barenaked Ladies right? Has it all really been done before? When Stout opened its doors on the chronically overhauled Cahuenga Boulevard strip, you could hear a collective groan ripple through Hollywood. Another remedial beer and burger joint with sports on the TV and late night fist-fights on the sidewalk. Hooray. Well, not quite. Instead, Stout has turned into as close to a Hollywood staple as it gets. Is there anything particularly groundbreaking about Stout? No. And that’s the beauty of it. Stout’s creators simply took the age-old local pub formula and executed it with perfect precision. The welcoming, wall-less space spills out onto Cahuenga, connecting it seamlessly with the neighborhood and allowing every passerby to take notice. Their craft beer offerings are some of the best in Hollywood and the half-off happy hour is almost legendary at this point. But make no doubt about it, you come to Stout for the burgers. With only about 10 offerings to choose from, the menu is concise but well-balanced. Don’t eat meat? Fear not. There's a quinoa burger. And you better be planning on ordering those onion rings because THEY. ARE. SPECIAL. Oh did we mention they’re open till 4am every day of the week? Above all, Stout is consistent. It’s good burgers at good prices with that classy/casual vibe you always want and can never find. Maybe it has all been done before, but Stout’s still doing it better than most. Food Rundown Stout Burger The namesake burger is often times the most underwhelming, but not the case at Stout. Topped with blue cheese, gruyere, bacon, caramelized onions, horseradish, and roasted tomatoes, this is without question the most action-packed burger on the menu and you better not hesitate to order it. The Morning After Rosemary bacon, egg over easy, and chipotle ketchup. Despite its name, you can eat this any time of the day you want. But 2am-4am is generally ideal. Onion Rings Onion rings often tend to be one of those things that taste good until they don’t, but Stout’s onion rings ALWAYS taste good. These babies are golden brown and enormous and dare we say one of the best in town. Six Weeker Absolutely one of our favorites. With brie, fig jam, and caramelized onions it's not hard to see why this guy separates itself from the pack. Bollywood It’s all about the chutney mayo here and how perfectly it goes with Stout’s fantastic quinoa patty. Topped off with a little kick from the arugula, who said meatless food was boring? Goombah Topped with parmesan flakes, smoked Mozzarella, and crispy prosciutto (which acts almost as bacon here) this is salty, savory goodness." - Brant Cox
"You can find Stout in the midst of Hollywood’s rowdy clubs and rooftops, but this surprisingly calm burger spot has a big wrap-around outdoor patio ideal for actually hearing your friend talk during lunch. They have a massive tap list that usually includes a bunch of hard-to-find Belgian beers that go great with any of the burgers. Our favorites include the “Morning After” - basically a bacon, egg, and cheese burger - and the arugula- and chutney mayo- topped “Bollywood.”" - brant cox, arden shore
"For as seemingly run-of-mill as this place appears to be (burgers and beer, rinse and repeat), Stout is one of the most consistent meals in Hollywood. The menu is simple, but the burgers range from the mozzarella and prosciutto-topped Goombah to the Bollywood, a chutney-covered veggie burger that is fantastic. They have an excellent craft beer list and a patio along Cahuenga, and it’s open every single night till 4am." - jess basser sanders, brant cox
"You didn’t see a single celebrity on your Star Homes tour, and you’re too upset to even go looking for Ryan Gosling’s name on the Walk of Fame. If you need to eat your feelings, go to Stout. This pub-style burger and beer spot just off Hollywood might look like every other middling joint in the neighborhood, but Stout is the real deal. The burgers are actually good, the beer list is extensive, and the space is usually full but never insanely crowded. Once you’ve downed an IPA and filled up on their burger and onion rings, you might even feel ready to get back out there and find a Kardashian." - jess basser sanders, amy clark, brant cox
"Stout could just lean on the fact that it’s a burger spot (with locations in Santa Monica and Hollywood) that stays open until 4am every night. But instead of dialing it in for the tourists, they serve extremely good burgers and a really well-curated beer selection. The Six Weeker, with brie, fig jam, and caramelized onions, works well with a lambic or a wit, but if you’re struggling to narrow things down, the staff here are really helpful too. Head here on a Saturday night when your friends want to go to a terrible Hollywood club and show them that drinking Sixpoint IPAs until 2am is going to be way more fun." - brant cox, brett keating
