In the heart of the West Village, this vibrant spot serves up mouthwatering plant-based Szechuan dishes like dan dan noodles and mapo tofu amidst chic decor.
"Spicy Moon is a vegan Sichuan spot with locations in the East Village and West Village. If you’re looking for plant-based dan dan noodles and mapo tofu, this is the place. Order food from either location from their website. " - neha talreja, bryan kim, hannah albertine
"Spicy Moon in the East Village serves vegan Sichuan food like dan dan noodles (with the option to add Beyond beef), vegetable wontons in chili oil, and mapo tofu that's so good you’ll wonder if the dish is better without meat. It’s a top-notch takeout option, but we also like coming here before a night out. The red darkroom lighting makes feasting on pepper sauce eggplant and dry pot with tofu feel like an intimate dinner party. They also have another location in the West Village. " - neha talreja, hannah albertine, diana kuan
"Both Spicy Moon locations have the same great plant-based Szechuan menu, but come to the West Village location if you want to enjoy really good mapo tofu and dan dan noodles outside. This location also has a few dishes on the menu that the other doesn’t, like spicy curry buns and fried dumplings stuffed with chives and Just Egg. Make sure to get an order of the notably thin and crispy scallion pancakes too." - matt tervooren, neha talreja
"Beyond beef products across Manhattan trembled at the news of this new vegan Szechuan spot opening in the West Village earlier this year. The original location in the East Village is one of our favorite plant-based restaurants in the city, and while this new spot serves the same great mapo tofu and dan dan noodles, there are also a few new dishes on its menu like spicy curry buns and fried dumplings stuffed with chives and Just Egg. Make sure to get an order of notably thin and crispy scallion pancakes too." - nikko duren
"This vegan Szechuan restaurant has two options for outdoor dining: a covered area with heat lamps and a few enclosed shacks with no heat lamps. Choose your own adventure based on the weather, but don’t miss the incredible cucumbers in chili oil or the cabbage-mushroom wontons." - Hannah Albertine
