Sora Lodge Lalibela 4 Stars

This accommodation was booked as part of my three days in Lalibela - it indeed is as wonderful and good as all the reviews here have mentioned. ||Remembering this area is not modern or advanced, there will be be limitations like unstable wifi but this was due to the current governmental issues and not a hotel specific issue. ||Check in and check out - quick, efficient and able to pay with credit card. David is knowledgeable and also helpful when asked. ||Even if there is only one Restaurant - the selection is ample without getting bored. The taste is good - my guess is that the cooks must be well experienced now with the likings of many European guests who stay here. ||Rooms do not have AC - given the high altitude, I think it is assumed it will always be cool enough. I didn’t know until I stayed - asked for a fan for some ventilation and it helped alot. ||Sharing some pics of the stay here - it’s peaceful and a wonderful way to wind down. Beautiful sunsets with nice wine. ||Thanks to all the staff - always checking in with a smile and asking if guests like myself was ok and comfortable.

Sora Lodge is one of the most beautiful places I have ever stayed. The room I was staying was beautifully decorated and the views from the balcony was amazing.The restaurant is located at the edge of the hill and it has breathtaking views. The food was great and most of all the sunset was unforgettable. Both the price of the room and the food was very fordable. The staff was very accommodating and friendly. To visit Lalibela was very peaceful and relaxing.

We had a good experience at this lodge! Very nice hotel staff and owners, amazing view and good location to walk to the town. The german/ethiopian food is good as well, could be a bit bigger maybe but overall very nice! |We had a great guide (Abebe Baye) recommendation from the hotel with the nicest family!

I have been several times in Lalibela, both as tour leader and as solo traveller. The last stays have all been at Sora where the athmosphere is unbeatable, thanks to the friendliness of the staff, the good food, the views and the quality of rooms/facilities. The difficulties in the region have never made them give up or compromise on quality, even if tourists are much fewer than before Covid. If you book with Sora you will never forget it.

Excellent Service, beautiful rooms, The Views were Amazing, very friendly staff. 5 over 5. Nothing to regret. The hotel helped us contacting a tour guide who was excellent too. Our family is very grateful and satisfied. Congratulations Sora Lodge. You deserve the Best score

My family and I styed at sora lodge for the second time a weak a go for three nights, despite the challenges they had with long conflict in the area they have kept the lodge quite well and everything worked just fine. The staff of the lodge is amazingly friendly and helpful. We had arranged guided tour with the lodge and it went perfect with everything they have arranged for us. We will always go back to this beautiful lodge and I would like to recommend this place for everyone visiting Lalibela.

This is an amazing serendipitous completely safe family owned beautifully run beautifully built property. I cannot recommend this enough for your Ethiopian Labella carve churches experience!. You drive through the gates and are put into a Wonderland up on a plateau looking down upon this beautiful green lush valley and river. It is serendipitous! All the different little niches of art, and trees there with a view and the sink with a view is exquisite! They’ve got a wonderful fire pit area overlooking the massive valley, and it would be the perfect place for an adventurous wedding! Gathering around the fire pit looking out at the view, having a drink at the sunset bar the restaurant was delicious. They made what we wanted, exactly to our liking! Everyone here is so kind so loving the room was clean and adorable with mosquito nuts and a hot shower bed. They brought me extra pillows. Anything we wanted. We set up our tour of the carved rock churches through the hotel and it was fabulous! And what a great deal! The cost of the hotel, including breakfast. Amazing dinner was amazing. They made us our Shiro with vegetables and it was perfect for us.|Somehow, I wanna get across how amazing this place is alone group whether you’re alone traveling or with groups we have felt safe as two women traveling. There has not been one iota of worry about our safety. Everyone here is kind, generous, loving, honest, and no concern about the regions conflict. It’s so quaint and serene and wonderful. Please come and see this magnificent place.

Edit: the response from the host is invalidating. The cost of water in my home country is irrelevant from the true value in Ethiopia when you can walk 200m and get it for 1/3 the price. I am telling you I was charged 150birr so you're saying I am lying? I'm simply giving a review of my experience and observations for future travellers. It is a beautiful location with a nice feel and very safe. BUT. I think they're taking strong advantage of tourists with their prices and additional fees. For example, a water costs 150birr (usually 30-50birr on the street). When asking the staff about tour guide or tuk tuk costs they quote in USD and about 2-3x the actual local amount. The restaurant also has 2 additional fees, 15% and 5% not included in the price. The meal sizes are quite modest and the cost, once again, 2-3x what you would pay outside of the hotel walls. I guess you're paying for the views and I imagine moaf tourists wouldn't know the difference in prices. I am disappointed in the staff saying a tuk tuk would cost $20usd when it actually cost 800 birr ($6USD) - we didn't even barter on that cost either. I can recommend the place as a safe, beautiful place to be if you're not fussed about cost.
