I attended a launch party last night at this beautiful, exciting perfume shop. It was a magical evening and now I realize how important it will be for me to come back to Scent Bar on a quiet afternoon and take in the extensive inventory, which is organized by type of overall accord (the blending of individual notes to form a category of scent, such as, fruity, floral, food-like or gourmand, spicy, smoky, leathery, green, etc., etc.).
Having become a passionate fan of the perfume industry (from childhood, actually, as my father was a perfumer and designer aerosols pioneer), I have been plugged in to the influencers who guide us through what is now a deep and labyrinthine maze of new and old fragrances from every type of perfume house, genre, and generation. The expertise at Scent Bar helps customers navigate this complex world so we can make wise choices and smell heavenly.
The impetus for the party was the launch of a brand new offering from the elegant Italian house, Jus Box. One of its owners, Chiara Valdo, was there along with a YouTube star, Sebastian Jara, better known as The Perfume Guy. Sebastian is simply THE expert on perfumes with decades of experience, hundreds of educational and inspirational videos online, and thousands of perfumes in his personal collection at his San Francisco studio. If you have any interest in fragrances (which are now for both men and women, almost universally), join his channel and prepare to be immersed in a dazzling world that transports you away from any of the mundane issues we are grappling with at any given moment.
Sebastian was the genius behind the newest Jus Box Eau de Parfum, named Fifty Four, for the famous Studio 54 in New York City. He collaborated with Chiara and her brother Andrea from Jus Box, and the highly respected Julien Rasquinet, the perfumer for this new scent. Fifty Four has already become a hit -- it's simply beautiful, delicious, and all-seasonal -- and on its way to being a classic. Lucky Scent and its retail stores, Scent Bar (two in Los Angeles; one in New York) were given the honor of sending off this amazing new gem and they did it right. The party set the vibe with complimentary champagne, elegant pastries, and a full-on disco atmosphere complete with glittering disco balls and strobing lights. It was pure magic.
Anyone who has only bought perfume at department stores, and who is still thinking that designer and OG brands are all there is to it, simply must come to Scent Bar (my favorite is in Hollywood) and sample the hundreds of niche houses that make exquisite "juices" to thrill every single individual taste, from all over the world.
I can't wait to go back!
