"Housed in a Georgian mansion that once belonged to a local minister, this small but comfortable hotel overlooks heather-covered mountains, the Atlantic Ocean, and a three-mile-long stretch of sandy beach on the southwestern coast of Harris. Guests can enjoy the views from three bedrooms decorated with period furniture and fabrics, or three suites equipped with private sitting rooms. While there aren’t any TVs or radios in the rooms, there’s free Wi-Fi throughout the property, plus resident pets Misty the cat and Maud the pug. A library and first-floor drawing room both feature open fireplaces, while a two-room restaurant serves a set menu of local fare and homemade bread, cakes, biscuits, and ice creams. When you’re ready to explore, head to one of the many weavers on the island for some Harris tweed, or partake in outdoor activities like fishing, golfing, hiking, and more."
What a lovely welcoming place this is. We enjoyed our time and the wonderful food. This homely place will not suit all as it’s an experience of staying in someone’s home ( which we liked) rather than a hotel. Tranquility is preserved with the absence of any TVs but the internet is good. The bedroom is contemporary with the age of the property. The wine choice at dinner is excellent. The afternoon teas delightful. The exterior of the house is a bit of a shock on arrival but be assured things inside are orderly. The experience is recommended but the tariff is very expensive.

We went for afternoon tea and it was stunning. Didn't eat for the next three days. Cakes, scones, the whole Jing bang. Lovely tea. Superb front sitting room with more books than a forest could supply. Maud the pug still going strong. The best staff ever. Ever.

I booked dinner on recommendation and review by renowned food critic. It was my wife’s significant birthday and the whole team were outstanding.
Food was glorious; local fresh, simple ingredients assembled with aplomb.
Pre dinner canapés served in the library, burst on the palate and making us eager for the main event.
The dining rooms are tastefully done, with old world charm and elegance, making the whole experience memorable.
Delightful serving staff are helpful and attentive and engaging.
It’s refreshing to have such thoughtful hosts, and a set dinner menu that reflects the spirit of the island.
Well done Tim and Patricia, you deserve the accolades.

We visited the Scarista House for having a tea and a coffee on a evening while we were on foot at the Hebridean Way. And camping in the nearby dunes. With smelly shirts and dirty boots we were invited in a room and despite the difference in public and ambiance for hikers very good coffee and tea was made for us. With a very warm welcome. Thank you very much! With love from the Netherlands.

Can I give it six stars? Or ten? Situated a short walk from Scarista beach, and as full of character as the island itself, it is the epitome of the term “boutique hotel”.
Add in the superb set-menu food and really personal service, it is well worth the money. Chatting with fellow residents and visiting dinner guests over canapes and gin or whisky before dinner is always enlightening. The cracked glass panes in the lounge window from winter storms or the slightly dated bathroom fittings just add to the coziness. Remember, you're in the Outer Hebrides where it is tremendously hard to do anything, let alone run a gorgeous hotel.
After an amazing day out walking the nearby ridiculously lovely beaches or going up the hills for views of a lifetime, Scarista House is a warm, friendly, welcoming home from home. Highly recommended, just don't tell anyone else and let it remain our secret.

Amazing place, beautiful room and food. Staff were attentive and excellent in all ways. Bed was comfy with luxurious feather pillows & duvet. Can also bring the dog which is a bonus and a short walk across to the beach and enjoy the turquoise waters and white sand of the Outer Hebrides. An absolute must.

Dear Patricia, we have not have the opportunity to say good bye and thank you before we left early in the morning so accept our apologies and our gratitude via social media. We do fully enjoyed the warmth our stay in Flora appartment, the warmth in the meal cooking and servings from breakfast, warmth in the afternoon teas near the fire place surrounded by the books and « houses and gardens » and bouquet final the dinners and cherry on cake a warmth hug with Brodie and ? Mai and Vincent

The location of the hotel to 1 of the best beaches I have been on is fabulous.|Staff and service extremely professional.|Excellent locally sourced food.|Our room was a little underwhelming, the bathroom door was difficult to keep shut, the heating around the skirting board was hanging off. And there wasn’t much room, I would have expected more for the price.
