Scarista House

My girlfriend and I visited Scarista House for dinner in August and we were both blown away. An amazing experience was had; we were moved through the house throughout the evening where we had the opportunity to chatting with different guests, each sharing stories of their travels whilst sampling various delights. The food was so delicious, with all the delights you would expect in this part of the world and they are happy to cater for any dietary requirements you may have, with notice of course. It was a high level of service throughout the entire evening. I will be returning - next time to stay I hope - and I would recommend this place to anyone

We had a wonderful two night stay at this fabulous boutique hotel. The food is absolutely top quality. For example, for the first of our two dinners we each had a pile of maybe a dozen huge langoustines. There was barely any plate to see beneath them. Very locally sourced and simply cooked. All the other courses were also extremely good, and breakfast was spectacular, almost entirely homemade. |Our room was fine, a comfortable bed filled the main room, and there was a small sitting room with a sofa from which we could see the beach and the sea. The public rooms were great - including a great library in which pre-dinner drinks were served, and conversations begun. |The location is spectacular - just two or three fields width away from the back of the beach, and the sea. Beyond them, the hills of Harris. It is a few minutes walk across the fields onto the beach. The scenery is so unexpected and bizarre: here on the wild Atlantic coast, there are golden sands and turquoise seas. |A great place to stay!

The food here is excellent, quite special, and with a good wine list. Nice distant views of the beach. The rooms and bathroom (ours anyway, Lily) are very old fashioned. I thought it overpriced for the basic and not particularly great facilities.

We had a very special time at Scarista. The standout is easily their team, who are a credit to them. The manager(?) is superb, welcoming us from a cold cycle with tea and a fire, waiting staff are professional and attentive, and most of all their young team are fabulous and deserve a shoutout: courteous, polite and professional despite their young age. Well done! My partner loved it so much he chose this place as the spot to propose on our Hebridean journey, and although we didn’t tell anyone, we didn’t need to as they made us feel special in any case. Now we have an excuse to return in a few years for an anniversary! We also made friends with other guests and enjoyed drinks with them, which was a bonus. Well done Scarista, what a heavenly place.

Sacrista House is a very special place in an exquisite location. We visited Scarista House for a meal, and we can only describe it as an experience. We had a lovely welcome from George, who was brilliant, and very thoughtful. The set menu is a surprise which is an element we enjoyed, an anticipation and delight at what treats awaited. The food was local, fresh, and wonderfully cooked with the most delicious flavours. We loved the pre dinner canapés, and after the option of 3 or 4 courses, settled with petit fours and coffee. The house itself lends an ambiance of history and tranquility with a stunning view of the setting sun over the Atlantic. We left Scarista House longing for a return, and very much look forward to a future visit.

If you are looking for film star frippery, obsequious service and gold plated bidets, this is not the place for you. If you are looking for a relaxed friendly home away from home, thoughtful staff full of genuine warmth, first class cooking with the best of fresh local ingredients, all in a jaw droppingly beautiful, and seriously remote, location, then this could just be the best hotel on the planet.|Hosts Tim and Patricia Martin have been running Scarista House for 25 years now and clearly know what they are doing. Dinners included fresh halibut, turbot and langoustines caught the same day as well as local lamb and beef of the highest quality, all accompanied by some delicious wines from Tim’s inventive wine list. No choice at supper but with food of this quality, who needs it?

My fourth stay in 30 years, our last was 5 years ago. This time in Dot, which I see gets a bad press by a previous guest. So I agree turning the office into a bathroom would be a great idea. That said, this room has lovely views and is spacious, if you want to relax in a comfy seat, the drawing room is nextdoor and has many very comfy seats to offer. Bath is huge, but the loo is cramp, and if you have "a wide gate," then probably not for you!||So Scarista House is not cheap, with dinner we are talking over £400 a night. However, they are very remote and in an incredibly beautiful part of the world. The hotel is situated beside and amazingly beautiful beach, the staff and owners are the personification of charm. They take dogs, the food is good, the atmosphere is relaxed. Drinks before dinner is engaging as you chat with fellow guests in a convivial atmosphere.||Guests are loyal and indeed passionate about the hotel. Could we find something to gripe about if we looked, sure we could, but why this is a little bit of luxury in a stunning location. We left again, having had a marvellous and unique stay, and we can't wait to return even if the loo may be a little cramped.

The food was amazingly good all week. Fresh, local produce with an emphasis on fish and seafood, prepared expertly.|Views to the beach were spectacular. We would happily go there again.
