"Each April, the Zurich Marathon hits town with a route plan that winds through the city's best sights, including the tony shopping street Bahnhofstrasse, the mouth of Lake Zurich at Bürkliplatz, over the Quaibrücke bridge, and with a finish line at the Mythenquai on the shores of the lake. Busy street opposite the central station in Zurich. Great place for getting a first glimpse of the city.

Bahnhofstrasse in Zurich is one of the world’s most exclusive shopping streets, lined with luxury boutiques, high-end department stores, and charming cafes. During the holiday season, it transforms into a festive wonderland, especially with the stunning Lucy Lights that illuminate the street.

There are many luxurious stores here but it still looks classy and classic at the same time. Very good for walking & shopping. But be careful of the trams! They are so cute!

Yelp
The Zurich Bahnhofstrasse has maybe a less catchy name than others but still represents the most beautiful shopping boulevard in the world and easily beats Rodeo Drive in Los Angeles or the Champs Élysées in Paris. There is nothing that can compete with the wide open space, the relaxing atmosphere in combination with the ultimate concentration of luxury stores.

Yelp
My days of caring about shopping are looooong gone and while strolling the Bahnhofstrasse would've induced a mad frenzy in me in an almost forgotten past, I enjoyed walking this Swiss Fifth Avenue with the two men of my life (my hubby and son, in case you had more unsavory thoughts). The sidewalks are ample, to accommodate masses of people walking with their shopping bags, themselves, or their friends and family. We could hear all different languages as we traversed this busy street and my ears would also perk upon hearing conversations in English or Spanish. It would actually be hard to eavesdrop a bit, as I find I do that when in a foreign country where I don't speak the principal language(s). That should change soon though, as I am learning French. So maybe on my next trip to Switzerland, I can talk to some natives who speak speak one of the four official languages. Anyway, we found an awesome toy store to pick up a wooden toy of a man playing an Alphorn on Bahnhofstrasse, which was the highlight of our morning here. Funnily enough, we were the typical Americans picking up a Happy Meal for our kid at the eye-bulgingly expensive McDonald's in the neighborhood (but his meal came with tasty "Swiss potatoes") and even native French AT asked for a drink from Starbucks (:shocked-eyes:), where I shelled over about $10 USD for a grande frappuccino (all other patrons had tall cups in their hands). We stopped by because it seemed that all lists of recommended activities in Zürich mentioned Bahnhofstrasse, so now I can just check off the list. I probably wouldn't make a point to go there next time I'm in the city though.

Yelp
Zurich was the first place I visited during my travels in Europe. Honestly, I asked myself " how did I end up here?" after landing. That question would be an afterthought after visiting Bahnhofstrasse. The shops varied from H&M to Luxury. It's a must if you plan on stopping in Zurich.

Yelp
Largest shopping thoroughfare in Zurich. Anchored by HB and Burkliplatz. Mostly upscale retailers such as Louis Vuitton and Chopard. Many jewelers. The famous Franz Karl Weber Toy Store and the ever popular with the expat community Orell Fussli are also represented on the high street. For those familiar, this is the Zurich equivalent of Bond Street in London, Michigan Avenue in Chicago, Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills, and Fifth Avenue in New York. Also offers two very good apothekes with large selections of homeopathic remedies. Be aware this street is always crowded, everything seems to close by 20:00/8pm. Do go down the side streets for more shopping options.

Yelp
The main shopping street of Zürich. It's great to walk down the street and check out all the shops. Shops near Zurich Hauptbahnhof are more affordably priced, and as you get closer to the lake, then you'll find the pricier stores. In the middle, you cross the old town and can meander into the little side streets with cobblestone roads.

Yelp
Look, in sum the Bahnhofstrasse is Rodeo Drive on steroids. Ok, that is a bit of an exaggeration but my suggestion would be to start at the end closest to Lake Zurich and stroll with your "baby" on the Bahnhofstrasse toward the train station. Get ready for some of the best shopping on this planet. A simple Truth Look Major Dudes, if your "money is funny," or if you are behind on child support or are currently experiencing financial difficulties don't take "baby" down this street because it will cause depression. On the other hand, you might consider a hotel in Kloten and using the hotel savings to shop. I would make sure I stopped in on Bally (I mean you are in Switzerland, right) and believe it or not there are a couple of moderately priced shops like Vero Moda and Mango just off the Bahnhofstrasse. Also, go to Jelmoli. This department store is "right in the mix," has something for everyone's budget, and has a great buffet restaurant and bar. On the Other Hand For those travelling "with coin" the selection in Bally of Switzerland is unbelievable, this is the nicest Bottega I have ever shopped in and only Louis Vuitton in Paris is better than the Bahnhofstrasse store.

Yelp
Beautiful street area with lots of shopping options, a train station right there, and great options for restaurants. Switzerland is a pricey place in general but this street area reminds you just how expensive Switzerland can really be. My husband went into the cigar shop and ended up getting a few cigars and an expensive lighter. We also looked at some genuine souvenirs here that are not cheap! But hey, it's to be expected in Switzerland!

Yelp
Banhofstrasse is a ton of fun with some seriously great shopping. It definitely can be overpriced, but it's Europe what do you expect! It reminds me of Melrose in Los Angeles because at one end there is a mix of "mall stores" that normal people can afford, and at the other there is a vast array of designer shops (high-end and couture). It's a beautiful street that ends at the lake, making it a definite must-see while in Zurich. Located quite close to the main train station (Zurich HB), it's easy to access, but also very crowded for the same reason. There are offshoots of the street into alleys that have an incredible amount of charm and character and make you swoon it looks so much like you would imagine a Swiss town to look like. These streets are more cobblestone and hilly, so avoid the stilettos on this trip out! In old Zurich there are quite a few streets with cute shops as well (on niederdrofstrasse for example). So you should definitely check those out as well if you're not as into the designer shops!

Yelp
A very high-end shopping area in Zurich. From someone who doesn't purchase things that expensive or really see some of the brands ever, it was a very cool sight to see. they have clothing stores, eateries, and chocolate shops.

Mihir M.

Yelp
This is another nice part of Zurich, not as old as Altstadt. There are many shops - many chain stores, but original ones as well. The tram stops frequently. The walk is very nice.

Yelp
If you have money, this is the place to shop. Any high end designer that I could think of is housed here. For a middle-class American, it was incredible to see Jimmy Choo's, Louis Vitton, and Christian Louboutin's. It's definitely a must to grab a treat from Sprugli and make your way around this place.
