The hotel itself is fine and close to tram lines, which makes it easy enough to get into downtown Zurich. That said, I don’t think this is a good location for visitors. It takes around 30 to 45 minutes to get almost anywhere, and at night there are very limited food options in the area and nothing to do nearby.
As soon as I walked in, I realized it was a Philippe Starck–designed hotel. I’m a simple person who appreciates minimalism and pragmatic design, and to me this felt a bit too over the top, postmodern, and impractical. The room itself was fine, but many design decisions seemed focused on visual impact rather than comfort, which clearly was not the priority.
The main reason for my low review is an issue we had with room service and housekeeping. Next to the light switches by the door, there is a switch that is extremely easy to press by mistake, which activates the “Do Not Disturb” signal. Because of this, our room was not cleaned. When I spoke to two different people, one at the front desk and one from housekeeping, they both told me that I must have pressed the switch by mistake and that this happens all the time. If they know this happens frequently, it’s frustrating that nothing has been done to fix such an obvious design flaw.
As a result, the towels were damp, the trash was not picked up, and the bed was left undone. Instead of offering a proper solution, they simply apologized and left me to deal with it myself. It felt like I was being penalized for a mistake they openly admit happens regularly.
We will never stay at this hotel again, and I will never stay in this area again. If you are visiting Zurich on vacation, I really don’t think it’s worth it.
