"The bartenders at Julep know their stuff. This is the place to come for a damn good cocktail. You don't have to be a whiskey lover to enjoy the drinks, although it certainly helps. In addition to the classics, Julep also creates their own cocktails. The Black Flower is one of my favorites– JTS Brown Bourbon, fig, vanilla, lemon & Angostura Aromatic Bitters. The interior has a unique vibe as well. The cut-mirror chandeliers & sliding library ladders create an illusion that you've walked into the Great Gatsby. Call ahead to book a whiskey tasting if that floats your boat." - Cat Coquillette

"Relatively new to the scene, Tom’s Town is both a distillery and Art-Deco inspired lounge/event space. The owners gutted and repurposed a historic brick building to create an inviting environment that takes you back to Kansas City’s illicit past, while still feeling thoroughly current. Their attention to detail is evident everywhere from the cocktails to the décor. Get a Manhattan and some fried green tomatoes and get happy." - Brent Anderson

The minute we walked in we were greeted and asked if we were there for the tour. We each had a yummy cocktail even though we didn’t feel pressured to have to order anything. Tony has a great knowledge of the history, building and products. His presentation and personality made the time really enjoyable and our group had a really fun filled tasting. Will recommend and would revisit.

Carrie Jeske

Google
The happy hour angry goat is very good. We also loved the gold neat. 10 friends who knew each other in the military when we were in our 30s and didn’t see each other again until we were in our 60s on an adventure in Kansas City.

Maureen Purcell

Google
Excellent presentation, fun and engaging for all. The cocktails were delicious. Only suggestions: recipes to take home of what we made and a bucket to drain cocktails we couldn’t finish:-) thank you for a fun group event!

What a great experience! We had Elisha as our cocktail professor, he was phenomenal. The drinks were each different and all were very creative and delicious!

Google
Great time at Tom's Town tonight for the grand opening of The Vault! Super cool area downstairs that's a must check out. Had an early sneak peak access Thanks to their 🔥 VIP membership program - check it out on their website. Every visit allows us to experience something new!

Great atmosphere. Easy check in for tour. Dick was a great tour guide! Highly recommend him. Food was amazing. Had steak fries, wagyu burger, and deviled eggs.

Google
Had a fabulous time at the Tom’s Town Tour! Dick was a great tour guide. His wealth of knowledge was incredible! Enjoyed the tasting and opportunity to buy Tom’s Town merch as well.

Google
Had a great time, employees and drop in helpers were very welcoming and made the process a night to remember. So interesting to be on the back line. No judgements just lots of encouragement and a new appreciation for line workers of the world! Already booked again for Oct!!!!

Yelp
Tom's Town Distilling is a great location! Britney Chrisco, the Event Manager does a really great job with private events! Ask for her if booking a space for a celebration! Great place!

Yelp
We have had our staff holiday party at Tom's Town Distillery for the past two years. We have rented the Pendergast Room both times. The space is so cozy and full of charm! The room was decorated with a Christmas/Grinch theme this year. The holiday decorations were off the charts! We had appetizes, dinner, and drinks for 40 people. Chef Alex is AMAZING!! The appetizers and food were 10 plus stars! We look forward to the fun and festive cocktail menu they offer during the holidays. And the bartenders at Tom's Town are some of the best in the city! Our staff is aleady asking to go back to Tom's Town next year! A special thank you to Britney who made sure our event went off without a hitch, and to Jeremy and Elise for taking such good care of our group!! Meshuggah love to you all!!!

Bella N.

Yelp
I had the pleasure of visiting Tom's Town for a catered event. Walking in was like entering a magical Christmas wonderland!! I used to work nearby, so I'd glanced in while walking by a few times. But this was so different from the way it normally looks...and so awesome! Every space had been decorated to maximum Christmas charm! The waiters were very attentive, one brought me a water without me having to ask, even though she knew I was just waiting for the event, and set me up at a little table while I waited for the event to start. Once everything was ready, we went to the back room (which is used for special events). It was also gorgeous & Christmassy and very cozy and welcoming. The space is perfect for about 15-20 people and was set up kind of like a living room. I loved it! Great for mingling with others. Everyone was raving about the cocktails - I think these were prepared by Tom's Town. Although I didn't try any myself - I'm not a big drinker - everybody kept talking about them. It was just such a fun night, made all the better by the location. Awesome job, Tom's Town!!

Yelp
I love that distillery's have added cocktail lounges around their products. Tom's Town has the original tin ceiling and lights that mimic that era, couches, overstuffed chairs and the bar has 10 stools (I like watching bartenders at their craft) Gin is my choice and I prefer strong botanicals, their gin is in the middle which works well with their libation creations. Their web site is an interesting read. They've also added a speak easy, entrance on the side of their building and requires a reservation. Cheers https://www.toms-town.com/

Yelp
I've been on my fair share of distillery and brewery tours around not only Kansas City, but also others across the country. And to be honest, the experience is largely the same at all of them. You walk around the facility getting a mixed history of the products they make and the company bottling them, which is typically followed by sampling some of the product in a tasting room. Tom's Town has decided to break from the pack to go beyond a simple tour and tasting. There is a wide variety of unique experiences offered at this Kansas City distillery that really stand out, and I can't recommend them enough. The wonderful staff at Tom's Town wants to create a memory for you that doesn't blend in with every other tour. From cocktail classes to actually working on a bottling crew, you'll have a ton of fun here...not to mention all the great food and cocktails in their restaurant. You can see more of our experience on our YouTube travel channel: https://youtu.be/PqaYJazESDQ

Yelp
Have always enjoyed Tom's Town for fun cocktails and great vibe. Recently stopped in on their Holiday Pop Up and it was so fun. Great decorations and a fantastic holiday drink menu with creative hot and cold options.

Kate C.

Yelp
Possibly the best holiday cocktail menu in KC. So much to choose from & they're all A+! Between that & the festive decor, it's understandably a seasonal fave. The only let down was service. Our server did not come around often & drinks took up to 15 minutes to get, most of the time coming out at different times. Maybe it was just a rough evening? But, that's not enough to keep us from returning!

Amanda R.

Yelp
Time to update my review. Stopped in for the Halloween pop up this year. Decorations were on point! I'm not even a Halloween person and I loved it. Definitely check it out in future years. Food and drinks were both good. No complaints!

Biancka R.

Yelp
My girlfriends and I wandered into Tom's after dinner at Corvino's for a quick drink. We were promptly seated at a comfy couch with subdued lighting. There were a few quiet groups scattered throughout the space so it felt nice and intimate. We were planning for a long night of dancing so we all got espresso martinis to keep our energy up. I'd never had an espresso martini since I suffer from anxiety, but theirs may convert me. They were excellent with a perfect balance of bitter and sweet. I only had the one, but I was tempted to get another. Tom's Town is a solid choice for a night out.

Marlon T.

Yelp
Tom's Town Distilling is a solid spot for a quality cocktail. Service was great with very friendly bartenders. Whatever you decide to order here, I doubt you'll regret it! I went with this drink and it made my night: Double Oaked Old Fashioned - Tom's Town Double Oaked Bourbon, demerara sugar, dry curacao, Maraschino liqueur, Angostura bitters Thanks Tom!

Ashley D.

Yelp
Went to Tinseltown, their holiday pop up and man it was great! So fun how all of the different rooms are different themes. We were in the grinch room. The drinks were yummy! My favorite was the holiday version of the aperol spritz! It had a little spice taste to it. The hot cocoa was good also. Food and service were great and delicious as usual. I definitely loved this for a holiday pop up. The $5 reservation fee was well worth it and much cheaper than others. I also like the ambiance better than pop ups like miracle. Miracle is more for a loud Christmas party atmosphere where as this was fun and themed but still classy with high quality drinks!

Paula D.

Yelp
Tom's Town offers a nice selection of cocktails and food. The bar and dining area are a little dark but it adds to the ambience. I wanted to do the bottling crew experience but I made a mistake and also booked a distillery tour that started shortly before. I definitely recommend being smarter than I was and doing them on two separate nights so you can enjoy them. The tour was really cool-- I learned a lot about the history of Tom's Town as well as some KC bootleg history. Seeing behind the scenes was also really cool. The tasting was delicious. If you have the opportunity to do the bottling crew (it books up pretty far in advance!), do it. The distillery crew were really nice (and so was the dog!). It was a unique experience to get to see behind the scenes manufacturing and to be a part of it. I'm looking forward to doing it again.

Yelp
This is mostly a review for the Cloven Hoof speakeasy at Tom's Town Distillery. The speakeasy is a thematic one, and during the month of October, they have the basement speakeasy elaborately decorated for Halloween. I'd never been to Tom's Town Distilling, but my husband and I decided to come to the Cloven Hoof for Halloween. The drinks were very strong. Hard liquor with one cup equals three shots. It was way too much for me since I really don't drink. We both ordered meals that were pricey for the quality and what we got. My husband had a crabcake that was small, as most crab cakes are, but like more than $20!!! I had a pricey burger, which was supposed to be wagu beef, which as I understand it supposed to be really pricey and good, but mine was too charred. I would only come back here for the ambiance and themed speakeasy. The waiter informed me that in the spring it's supposed to be a secret garden theme.

Yelp
Friday date night downtown KC. My friends hairstylist recommended the place. If you are into Kansas City history, you would love this place. It's named after Tom Pendergast. The sitting lounge area is nice and quaint. They also Ave a lower level where they do themed deco. This month is just happens to be tropical summer Tiki theme. Their drink menu is exquisite. They also serve food there. Staffs was very friendly and provides great service.

Yelp
Drink-5/5 Food-4/5 Service-5/5 Atmosphere-5/5 We popped in to Tom's town distilling while visiting the area and I was pleasantly surprised! It was not busy when we walked in and I am not sure why, because this place is great! Our server was very nice and consistently came to check in on us. I ordered the drowned rabbit to drink and it was so refreshing and crisp! The mint and lime really shined through. We also tried the rosemary fries and they were a great snack! They come with a garlic aioli that tasted like they made it fresh in house! I can't wait to come back here and try more drinks and food!

Aaron S.

Yelp
Outstanding first experience here. Immediately loved the atmosphere which I could see being even better at night. We snacked on some fries during our long wait at a nearby restaurant. They were tasty and the rest of the food on the menu looks great so I can't wait to try more. Cocktail was AMAZING. I got one that was bourbon based and it had ingredients I haven't had with that before and it seems like they really know what they're doing (my wife loved hers as well). Friendly attentive staff on top of everything and I imagine we'll be back soon.

Meghan M.

Yelp
Tom's Town gave me very art deco vibes which is right up my alley! Beautiful place with beautiful drinks. The fries are to die for. The service is unmatched. Check it out.

Jim H.

Yelp
Visited Saturday night to experience the holiday, pop-up experience occurring on both the main level as well as the basement. Our group was placed down into the basement, where you have a feeling of a exclusive experience. Not only is there a list of Christmas theme cocktails but also the full food menu was being offered. We snacked on hummus, while enjoying a mix of cocktails. The Christmas theming is great, and the way the basement is broken up into small grouping your group can feel like you're at a private cocktail party. Remember to take in the pictures on the walls of the staircase for additional Christmas theming. If you're exploring the various Christmas pop-ups, make sure you hit Toms Town!

Mikaylie P.

Yelp
This is a review for tinsel town, but I have also gone to an event catered on the 2nd floor here and it was great as well! Tinsel town was an absolute blast! I love that the reservation fee went partially towards KC pet project too. All the drinks we tried were great. I went with a group of girl friends, used coupons, bought food and everything went smoothly. I enjoyed every single drink that I tried (tasted my friend's drinks too) and so I signed up my husband and I for a bottling experience, signed up for a cocktail making class with those same friends, and hope to go on a distillery tour with my in laws in the next year! Love love Tom's Town and being able to support and truly enjoy local spirits.

Cally R.

Yelp
When entering you walk into the new era. The Gatsby era of prohibition. It's lively, yet swanky and chill. We ordered the Shoot the Messenger and Old Fashioned. Wow. Amazing!! We also order the pub chips for a small plate while drinking. The oak bourbon onion dip was great with them! We sat at the bar and had excellent service. This was our first time and we will certainly be back for the drinks and to try more food!

Emma B.

Yelp
Nice atmosphere here. We dined in the main room, didn't get to see the speakeasy but the regular room has a good atmosphere, was full on a Saturday night. Server was good, we had a couple of food items as well and they were nice. Drinks were good and reasonably priced.

D.J. Y.

Yelp
Amazing atmosphere, drink menu and tastes, so do yourself a favor and do the distillery tour! Staff are wonderful, tour guide, Dick was a hoot!

Teresa H.

Yelp
My friends and I love going to Themed Pop up bars, we have our usual that we go to but we wanted to try somewhere different. This was our first time trying out Tom's and all 5 of us loved it! We did make Reservations and it was not to far of a walk from PNL. We loved the Halloween theme it was so much fun! We went down stairs and were seated at our table. Our server whom I forgot his name snuck up besides me and scared the heck out of me-he didn't mean to but he did! He was very helpful with suggesting the Halloween Cocktails, we did end up ordering a dessert, we had eaten somewhere else previously but their menu did look good so we may need to try that out at some point. We ordered the S'mores which came in a skillet and side of graham crackers. We enjoyed the cocktails and atmosphere of Tom's Halloween Speakeasy.

Tim O.

Yelp
We were there on a Saturday night and sat at the bar. There appeared to be a party in the back room. We had to ask for drinks, order food and pay our bill. We ordered mushrooms, crab cake, and steak frites. The mushrooms were hardly edible but the other items were good.

Ryan C.

Yelp
Great atmosphere, great old fashioned, and charcuterie board was on point. Would stop here again with passing through KC.

Emma E.

Yelp
This past weekend we stopped in to Tom's town distilling to grab a drink after our dinner, and it was amazing. We had not been in since the prior summer. We sat at the bar and got our drinks. Super quick. Service was super friendly and fast parking is easy nearby, this is a great place to take friends or enjoy on a date night. Great location with cool old school vibes highly recommend checking it out. The cocktails are amazing and you can even pick up a bottle to go.

Kathryn M.

Yelp
The most fun distillery in town with the best holiday decorations. In the Crossroads and on the streetcar line - so easy to get to with friends. Their holiday double oaked, bourbon whiskey is a great addition to our bar. Don't miss this place if you are visiting KC, you won't be disappointed!

Kelsey A.

Yelp
I came in with a few friends the other night for the first time and was pleasantly surprised by the warm and cozy atmosphere. We ended up being brought downstairs to the Tensil Town Christmas themed pop-up. There was a specialty menu for the themed area we were in, it did not disappoint! I ordered the Naughty or Nice which was made with a brown butter washed bourbon. It was absolutely my favorite cocktail of the night. I also ordered the Gin-gerbread Toddy, it was a little watered down but still very tasty. All the waiters and bartenders seemed to be very knowledgeable about the distillery's past and I found it very interesting and led to some great conversations throughout the night. I'll definitely be back to take their tour through the distillery next visit!

Ben B.

Yelp
Our group came here for an event and the bartenders were fantastic. Elijah and Corey were so knowledgeable and friendly. The food was fantastic and those chicken bites were awesome. I had 7 pieces of the flatbread!! and the drinks were so good. I met the event manager Brit and she was so nice would definitely book an event at Tom's their staff was amazing 11 out of 10 would recommend.

Carrie And Justin H.

Yelp
An Unforgettable Wedding at Tom's Town! We couldn't be happier with our decision to choose Tom's Town as our wedding venue. From start to finish, everything exceeded our expectations. Britney, the coordinator, was absolutely fantastic! Her attention to detail and dedication made the entire process stress-free and enjoyable. The rehearsal was seamless, and the decorations she helped coordinate added such a beautiful and personal touch to the space. On our wedding day, everything flowed perfectly. Britney and her team ensured that every detail was taken care of, allowing us to relax and fully enjoy our special day. The venue itself is stunning and provided the perfect backdrop for our celebration. We will cherish the memories of this day forever, and we're so grateful to Britney and the team at Tom's Town for making it so magical. If you're looking for a wedding venue with exceptional service and an unforgettable atmosphere, look no further than Tom's Town!

Mike S.

Yelp
Tom's Town is super cool. The way they made it feel like a speakeasy really adds to the history of the distillery. Add to it their choice of drinks and food and you have a great time. LC is blessed with a distillery like Tom's Town. If you pair this place with Rieger's and Union Horse, then you're in for a really good time. I will add that I am not a gin drinker and their gin I find tolerable and flavorful.

Todd B.

Yelp
4.25* (out of 5) Food: 4* Atmosphere: 5* Value: 4* Service: 4* 06/10/2023 We stopped here because it was on our walk to dinner from our hotel...and a friend that joined us for the weekend was named Tom. We ended up liking the place enough that we stopped back for brunch the following morning before heading out to the concert. For our brunch, I started with a Brunch Messenger (see picture) and my wife went with the Bloody Maria (see picture). We shared tastes with each other and really liked both drinks - and while the pricing seemed reasonable ($10/$12), the drinks were quite small. For our brunch meal, I ordered the Frittata (see picture) and my wife ordered the Croque Monsieur (see picture). Again, we shared tastes of each other's plates and both of us enjoyed and would recommend both. The hash browns were cooked well, tasted great and weren't too greasy - and the same could be said for the Croque Monsieur, which we were able to eat without dripping grease all over. The drinks during evening hours were unique and tasty...but again on the small side and quite pricey (what you might expect in the downtown area). The brunch was reasonably priced though and tasted quite good, so I'd highly recommend this place as a brunch stop during a downtown weekend visit. Yelp
Our server was definitely on the nod but the cocktails were good, the muffins were delicious and the ambiance was nice. I think two fancy cocktails and a muffin ran out about thirty five bucks. I probably wouldn't go out of my way to come back but I wouldn't be upset if someone took me here again.

Jamie S.

Yelp
bad experience. They also took our comments off Facebook and Instagram We made reservations online. We expected to attend the Christmas popup and be in the basement where all other pop ups we previously attended were located. We drove over an hour to be seated upstairs where it was decorated like all other bar restaurants do at Christmas. While the downstairs area was completely decked out and cool upstairs was loud and normally holiday decorAted. Th hostess said we should have picked the basement in our reservation but it didn't show at the time The hostess said they had trouble with the app, but still no apology. Our waitress didn't try to make things better and only came around a couple of times. We were still charged the $5 per person (all put in one of our checks) for a normal experience and not the cool experience they advertised online. Won't be going back The drinks are not great and the food is mediocre

Tom F.

Yelp
Found this place after spotting the amazing Art Deco style spirit bottles at a store within Country Club Plaza. Then, happened to have a cocktail with their gin at dinner and decided to seek out the distillery. Went there right after dinner and had a great time. Christmas theme decor in full swing, cocktails were very good and a good time was had by all.

Robert F.

Yelp
I can't really review the food as I have only ever had an appetizer here and can't say that I remember it. The Drinks - Scrumptious. All the classic cocktails on the menu. And it is always nice watching them mix it right in front of you using very few premixed ingredients. The hallmark of an amazing mixologist. This atmosphere is fun and lively. It can be a little loud so be sure that is what your group is up for on that night. There are back rooms and lots of area's to reserve at this location as well. The service - Again the bartenders know there stuff and will treat you right... so make sure to treat them right! I don't remember wait staff as two of the times we have been at the bar only. Only once did we take a corner booth and allowed for others to serve us. I look forward to many more time visiting this place and many more Old Fashioneds here.

Camillia E.

Yelp
My friend and I wanted a great place to chat and have drinks. This place hit the spot! We didn't eat the food but it looked great! The bar tender was great to chat with as well. Loved the art deco decor and comfy couches.

Q W.

Yelp
After my first review, I was encouraged that the business owner replied stating the issue I raised (bartender slamming everything, quite literally resulting in a panic attack) would be immediately addressed. So I gave this place another try, albeit on my own. This was my first visit where they were not out of anything I ordered, so there is that. The food was satisfying. I tried the gimlet from the menu. I have had many cocktails at many high quality bars, and of course some are better than others. This was one of the few I've ordered from anywhere that was undrinkable. While it is a play on a gimlet, it should not have had "gimlet" in its name. I chatted with a friendly bartender and commented on my previous experience. He immediately knew who I was talking about, regarding the "slam down everything" bartender, and said he still does that, but he's good at what he does. I did not seek clarification on what makes him good. So it sounds that despite the owner's assurance, nothing has changed. To the bartender in question, I do not know your name and would not use it here if I did. But I wanted to let you know, speaking as a customer, you are not good at what you do. You might be skilled at some aspects of bartending, but causing medical issues for guests and driving away business is not indicative of a good bartender.

Amanda M.

Yelp
Tom's Town cocktails are some of the best you'll find around Kansas City! They have something for vodka lovers, gin lovers, whiskey lovers, etc, etc The amount of times we frequent TT and I've not yet shared the Yelp Love is shocking. My husband said, "I love the location of this bar with the high glass corner windows". It really is a beautiful space. They have a basement (Halloween pop-up) and a 2nd story (Christmas pop-up) and we saw a tour group enjoying some knowledge in the distillery. We have TT bottles of spirits in our own home bar because they really do have tasty products! Make sure you grab a reservation!

Emily F.

Yelp
Popped in to meet friends so we just had a drink. The service was super slow but gracious as they were packed. Make sure you ask for a table our friends didn't specify an actual table so they had to eat at a coffee table in the basement with soft seating. Very cozy downstairs not great for dining. The old fashion I did have was perfect! Fun atmosphere and vibe upstairs and downstairs

Jackie F.

Yelp
Absolutely loved my first trip to Tom's Town Distilling. A group of about 5 friends and myself headed downstairs to the speakeasy to grab some drinks after dinner. This was a planned outing so we made a reservation. The downstairs was so freaking cute we loved how it was decorated. I ordered the Gandy Dancer for my first drink, and was in heaven. To switch it up, I then ordered a different cocktail that I forgot the name of, but it had mezcal, blood orange, and was to die for as well. My final drink was the shoot the messenger which was a really tasty espresso martini. For food I ordered the bourbon onion dip to snack on and it was great. Came with basic ruffled potato chips, but was hard to put down. Our server/bartender was fantastic. He was timely and gave some excellent drink suggestions to my friends and I. Definitely would go back!

Nick L.

Yelp
Best drinks in all of KC and the duck fat fries are INSANE. Lovely service and the vibe is simply electric. The botanical gin is divine!!!

Mike C.

Yelp
Botanical Gin was something I never dreamed I would like and it was phenomenal. Made a Martini out of it and always get my Martinis with Vodka. Decent small plates for food and great atmosphere

Mikaela G.

Yelp
Love the HH! Great cocktails and definitely recommend the rosemary fries. Atmosphere is low lit and comfortable for after work meet ups.

Steve C.

Yelp
We made a reservation for the Christmas pop up. We live out of town and when we arrived the reservations were not honored as they were made. Service was very slow, drink orders were wrong as were food orders. The staff gave excuses and were not interested in customer satisfaction. We were charged for the pop up but got seated in the main bar where it was crowded and loud instead of the quieter more intimate atmosphere of the holiday pop up space. Some of the food was cold as well as the hot chocolate drink. Kansas City has a large variety of dining and drinking establishments. We will definitely choose somewhere other than Tom's Town and I would advise others to do the same!

Jack M.

Yelp
Very good spot for food and drinks. Nice ambiance. Enjoyed the fried pickles a lot, would recommend. Would go back again!

Danielle M.

Yelp
Phenomenal place to get a distillery tour! The knowledge of the history in the area was impressive, along with the knowledge of spirits. Cheers to a great time here!

Haley S.

Yelp
I checked out Tom's Town with a friend while I was staying downtown for a conference. They had the Tinseltown popup and we grabbed two seats at the end of the bar. The bartender greeted us right away and we super attentive end though we were down at the end. We ordered a couple of the special festive cocktails based on his recommendation and they were all expertly crafted. Will definitely be back to try some of their regular menu offerings when I make it back to town.

Kristin E.

Yelp
Loved the ambiance of the bar area, great place to grab drinks with friends. Bartenders were friendly and knowledgeable- suggested Shoot the Messenger with bourbon.. best drink of the night. The food menu had a good amount of shareable appetizers. We will definitely be back next time in KC.
