"The Gold Coast location is quintessential urban Chicago, and makes for the best possible introduction to the city. The best rooms look out over Lake Michigan, but the city view’s far from shabby, and all are framed by the Thompson’s typically sharp interior design." - The MICHELIN Guide

"Thompson Chicago , housed in a contemporary high-rise in the heart of the Gold Coast luxury dining and shopping scene, was overhauled in 2013 by British designer Tara Bernerd. It offers a winning combination of modern-retro style, a home-away-from-home ambience, attentive service, and value for money. (The building previously was home to the Sutton Place Hotel.) With Thompson Hotels’ arrival, the lobby, dominated by a huge shelved library cube filled with books, curios, and retro bull's-eye mirrors, now strikingly harmonizes industrial exposed brick and dark-wood beams with elements paying homage to Chicago architect Frank Lloyd Wright (think geometric tiles and a cantilevered staircase). Most guestrooms have astounding city and Lake Michigan views, and all are snazzily furnished with asymmetrical velvet sofas, enormous showers, and framed contemporary art by the likes of Wes Lang. It's a style that impresses without being intimidating."

"This boutique hotel feels at once like an urban loft and a cozy cabin, combining rich colors and exposed brick with stellar views of Lake Michigan and the Chicago skyline. Its Gold Coast location means it's just a walk away from shopping and dining on the Magnificent Mile (and legendary pizza from Lou Malnati's), though the admired Osteria Nico downstairs means you don't even have to leave the hotel for Italian with a view. Just as enticing are the modern rooms themselves, featuring velvet seating and Brooklyn-made D.S. & Durga toiletries. If you do decide to change out of the insanely comfortable robes and venture outdoors, though, take advantage of the hotel's complimentary offsite car service."

"Forthcoming downtown hotel Thompson Austin is being accompanied by a second hotel from its parent company, Hyatt. The Thompson will feature second locations of lauded Savannah restaurants the Grey Diner Bar and Grey Market (which will provide pastries for the Tommie coffee shop) from chef Mashama Bailey and business partner John O. Morisano, as well as a new restaurant from the prolific Chicago group Land and Sea Department." - Nadia Chaudhury

"How did it strike you on arrival?Sleek with organic accents, it hints at Prairie School architectural homage. Follow the crowds to the on-site restaurant Nico Osteria. What’s that crowd like?Fashionistas and foodies. The good stuff: Tell us about rooms.Even the Cityview King, the least expensive room, has a great view of the skyline, but for a wee upgrade you get Lake Michigan, too. There's a slightly masculine color scheme of neutrals and rich browns contributes to a sense of ease. We’re craving some deep, restorative sleep. They got us?Lots of pillows, including decorative ones for propping up against the headboard while watching a movie on the big screen TV. Very homey in the best way. How about the little things, like mini bar, or shower goodies. Any of that worth mentioning? The quirky artwork hung in clusters warrants attention. Please tell us the bathroom won’t let us down.Nice, bright bathroom with subway tile hung vertically, super cozy terrycloth robes, rain showers, and REN bath products. Maybe the most important topic of all: Wi-Fi. What’s the word?Strong and free. Room service: What's it like here? You're in luck! You can get the seasonal, farm-to-table Italian fare the lobby restaurant Nico Osteria is known for. Anything stand out about other services and features? It's come up a couple times already, but don't miss the lobby restaurant Nico Osteria, an Italian seafood spot from One Off Hospitality, as well as its wine bar. Look for the art corridor in the stairway between floors two and four to take in the house collection. What was most memorable—or heartbreaking—about your stay? The European breakfast with La Quercia prosciutto was divine. Bottom line: Why are we booking here?Great location—and you don't have to leave to eat at one of the city's best restaurants." - Elaine Glusac

The hotel is the perfect location right on Rush St next to Oak St and a half a block from the lake. Rooms are beautiful, clean and chic. But the best part of our stay is Nicole T. at the front desk. She is so welcoming and efficient. She checked us in early and had keys waiting for us upon our return later in the day. She understood our needs and exceeded in every level to assist us - all with a smile and friendly warmth. This is what makes these kind of hotels personal - the people who greet you and take interest in your stay. I hope that the team there understands what a gem they have in Nicole. So many great hotel options in Chicago but she made the Thompson stand out to us - having us looking forward to a return visit soon.

Google
I've always enjoyed the Thompson Hotel property but in the last few years they have changed the restaurant situation. It's much more popular and crowded but (IMO) the food is not as good. However, it is definitely a "scene".||||I enjoy all the staff at the hotel - everyone goes out of their way to be helpful and polite. And the location is superb, and the hotel is warm, homey, comfortable yet still with a sense of luxury.||||There's just something special about the Thompson and it's my favorite hotel in Chicago.

Location of this hotel is amazing in the heart of Gold Coast. I love how close it is to the restaurants, shopping and beach. My room was a good size with a king bed. The bed and the pillow were super comfortable. Stuff was very friendly.

Google
What would’ve made this 5 stars was two functioning elevators. Had to relent to stairs on multiple occasions due to time and capacity restraints. Nonetheless, rooms are lovely and beds/sheets are heavenly. Order room service for breakfast and get the omelette, it’ll be one of the best you ever had!

Google

It is incredible, diverse, fun, interesting, can't say enough about it|Great service, Nicole in particular at the front desk was helpful, fun, customer focused and fun|Good rooms, spacious and well designed|Great mattress, on the firm side||Cons:|Couldn't get TV to work for anything other than network TV channels and was told it had been this way for months!!!! (ie, no Netflix) |NO security on elevators, did not require a key to get to your room!!! Yikes!|Coffee maker didn't work

Google
What an amazing hotel and location! I was greeted so warmly by the bell hop and the service desk, particularly Nicole! She provided me with exceptional customer service and great information about the area and hotel amenities. The Thompson is lucky to have such a great employee. The hotel is surrounded by nice restaurants and bars, and there’s a juice/smoothie and gelato bar right on the corner. I absolutely love the hotel and location. Thanks again to Nicole and the Thompson!

As a Hyatt Globalist, I’ve stayed at many properties—and The Thompson Chicago definitely holds its own. While I didn’t snag a high-floor upgrade this time due to high occupancy, the stay was still a standout. The location? Unbeatable. Right in the heart of the Gold Coast with easy access to everything. And the bedding? Let’s just say I forgave the low floor the second my head hit the pillow. The service was polished, the vibe was stylish yet welcoming, and despite being closer to street level, it still felt like a luxury escape. I’ll definitely be back—hopefully just a few floors higher next time!

Yelp
We recently stayed at the Thompson, we're local, from the northern suburbs. It's often nice to drive into the city, have dinner and not worry about driving home. We make it a 2 day staycation. While having dinner at the new "Tavern on Rush" we decided to get a room at The Thompson. The Thompson is a great value, courteous staff, large rooms, incredible showers and more. If you are looking for a great value, you should try the Thompson. Yes, I do recommend the Thompson to friends, family and business associates.

Yelp
Here is what I think of when I think of mid century modern decorated luxury! It's at the Thompson by Hyatt Gold Coast Chicago. Perched north of downtown Chicago, the Thompson has 247 designed hotel rooms! The suites have stunning views of the vibrant Gold Coast and Lake Michigan. Yes please to rainfall showers, and add to the midcentury modern vibe with the furnishings. I love this spot because it's close to everything....Magnificent Mile, Oak Street's boutiques, and Lake Michigan.

Yelp
For the most part, we really enjoyed our stay at the Thompson Chicago. It's a category 5 hotel in the World of Hyatt program and with that comes some expectations, fairly or unfairly. Let's start with the positives of the property. It's really clean with the consistent Thompson design language. It's not to say Thompson hotels are cookie cutter properties, they are not. However, each property does have similar attributes that makes a Thompson, a Thompson hotel. The design is chic without being flamboyant. It incorporates the local scene, but in a subtle way and the rooms all are decently sized with large bathrooms and fantastic beds. Some of the negatives of Thompson hotels are also highlighted at this location. The lobby was small with less than efficient flow. Now I understand that this place is getting renovated, but even without the construction this lobby would have felt cramped. Also, the front door was not marked properly so it was hard to understand where to park for valet. Plus, while these properties are supposed to highlight the neighborhoods it's in, I wish more Thompson properties would take time and really evaluate their gym situation. This gym was very small to the point of feeling claustrophobic without any real air flow. That aside, the property is what you would expect from a Thompson Hotel. One thing I will note and point out was the front desk. I know I don't hold Globalist status anymore, but I really didn't like the abrupt way the front desk addressed me when I asked about an upgrade to the best available room in the category. He just said "no" we're sold out, but when I went on the app, it clearly wasn't. More finesse in that situation would have benefitted him. Overall, I would come back here again, especially if I have globalist status again as some of their suites do look very inviting:

Yelp
The moment our Uber dropped us off here and we saw the neighborhood and the friendly doorman who welcomed us to the hotel, we realized we were at a classy joint. First of all this hotel is situated in a part of downtown Chicago that has high end stores similar to rodeo drive in Beverly Hills. I guess it's a part of downtown called Michigan avenue. We didn't know that when we booked it but this is a super cool location to walk around and hang out at. I wish we had stayed here longer than one day! When we checked in we were greeted with two complimentary bottles of water and there were 2 more in the room as well. They had a beautiful bar and restaurant which we didn't get to use at the hotel. When we got to the room we were delighted by the modern decor, the floor to ceiling windows all around the room with views of multiple sides of the street was probably our favorite part of the room, and the beautiful interior designing. The bathroom was our 2nd favorite part, so most bathrooms only have tile in the shower if you're lucky or next to the soaking tub just high enough to catch the splash. This bathroom had the tile all the way to practically the ceiling. They even had hex tiles along the floor which is super rare because that's expensive to do in such a large square footage like that. The tub had insane water pressure and filled up quick, and the shower had a nice huge shower head that made for a great shower experience. Even the toilet was bougier and better than usual. We were also delighted to see two robes ready for us to use. Great experience we would definitely come back on our next trip here

Yelp
Flew up to Chicago for 3 nights for my birthday. This is a stay I've been anticipating for quite a few months and it def left me wanting and expecting more. I've been to Chicago more than my fair share of times. Especially back when round trip flights from NYC were under $100 on random weekends. It was an easy 90 minute flight and you got to experience one of the world's iconic cities. This time I decided to stay in Gold Coast, an area I haven't explored much before but was def more wealthy than other areas I've been. Check in did take some time but a room was available early so that was a plus. They did let it slip that there were balloons up in the room lol. View was spectacular and the room was large by Chicago standards. Bathroom was also very nice. Went to pop some waters into the mini fridge and it was not only leaking quite a bit of water, but the fridge was warm. Engineer came up, seemingly fixed the fridge but left the puddle of water lol. Turns out the fridge wasn't fixed so they brought another mini fridge while we were out and stuck that on the floor next to the bed. Sheesh. Lobby is busy, dark and a bit small. I never like hotels where the lobby is packed with people consistently. I want to chill in the lobby in peace and/or get to the elevator to my room. Brunch spot here is popular as is the one across the street. Elevators are also a bit dated and slow. Had a drink at the bar downstairs, interesting set up. Wine could have been a bit colder and a better pour. Also of note, no turndown service is provided here. Didn't expect that as most 4-5 star hotels offer it. This was my first stay at a Thompson and it left me disappointed given the price range, area and level. I wouldn't stay here again but that's also because all of the restaurants we dined at were mostly in the West Loop area.

Yelp
The Thompson is perfectly located near shopping and dining in Chicago. The room was comfortable and clean. The view of the city was spectacular. The service was impressive and the doorman, who keeps dog treats in his pocket, and introduced me to dogs in the neighborhood, was so kind! We did have some confusion at checkout attempting to split the rooms with my sister and her husband. It seemed like the person checking us out was in a hurry, and mid-understood that we wanted to split the bill, and not just pick up the parking, which was ours alone. We ended up having to work it out between us, but it would've been SO much easier and more convenient for them to do it at check out. We'd love to know where the pillows came from. So comfy!

Charlie T.

Yelp
Very nice spot in a cool area with lots of things going on. The decor inside is modern and the staff are super helpful. The room is super clean, and the bed is very comfortable to sleep on. I will come here again for sure.

Kesha B.

Yelp
Truly one of my favorite hotels in the Chicagoland area, from the incredible service, to the beautiful views and the comfiest of beds each stay is just as remarkable as the last. We stayed here for a weekend as a staycation with our pup and were greeted by the doorman with a handful a treats and belly rubs for our puppy. Check in was a breeze, the front desk agent gave us a map of all of the local shops, and recommended all of the fun pet friendly places nearby so that we could maximize our family trip. Once we got into the room we had a beautiful view of the lake, and we're on a higher floor. They even had a bowl with treats, a toy and a coupon for a nearby pet shop. The black out curtains and the fluffy throws made for an incredible nights rest. Once we got settled in we went down to the lobby and had a few cocktails at the bar which was connected to the hotel restaurant. All in all, it was an incredible stay. We did sneak a peak at their event space too... can only imagine how stunning weddings must be at the hotel! Can't wait to come back!

Arkadiusz S.

Yelp
Great hotel in Gold Coast of Chicago. The location of this hotel is perfect for anyone that visits the city. It has a great bar located in the back of the lobby. Very good restaurant is also located in the hotel but in case you feel like exploring a little there is a half a dozen of restaurants within one block radius. Rooms including the bathroom are clean. The floor to ceiling windows in our room made our room feel so much bigger. Don't forget to request complementary robes. Our room only had one when we checked in but upon request the housekeeping brought another one quickly.

Jasmine S.

Yelp
Although there was construction happening during my stay, I would definitely recommend this Hotel. The location of Thompson is conveniently located near a selection of high-end and reasonable shopping, along with a diverse selection of bars and restaurants. The Hotel itself was very clean and I loved the set up of my room. My favorite feature was the in-room espresso maker. The gym could have been a little more equipped and unfortunately it was stuffy/hot, with little air circulation or the ability to control a fan or AC. Overall, besides the sound of jack hammers and power tools... the beds were comfy, the staff was friendly and I enjoyed my stay.

Jade M.

Yelp
This is my first trip to Chicago since pre-COVID. During that time, I decided that supporting AirBNB is no longer a moral option. I wanted to stay somewhere close the major expressways, walkable with lots of food and shopping options, and still felt neighbourhood-ish. Thompson Chicago was perfect. My stay was 9 days so I got a terrific per-day rate. Cheaper than AirBNB - that was a surprise. Room is beautiful; they upgraded me to a high floor upon check-in! Nice. Good free coffee in the lobby if you don't make your own in the room. Comfy bed, good linen, nice terry bathrobe, nice hard floor, no ooky carpeting. Best of all was staff. The guys at the front, car and luggage, were friendly and cheery and remembered me every day. Thank you, Sam, for your big smiles every day. I'll stay here again and again.

Bennette I.

Yelp
This boutique hotel is located right next to everything - a short stroll to Michigan Avenue, Lake Michigan views and residential brownstones, boutique shops, coffee spots and iconic Chicago restaurants. The Thompson Chicago gets my vote! We only stayed one night but our accommodations, linens, towels, bed, bathroom, staff, hotel lobby and restaurants were five star.

Johanna A.

Yelp
My husband and I stayed here on the New Year's Eve Eve. We were both extremely satisfied with the service we received by the staff. The lobby is super cozy with a fireplace and very welcoming. Our king bedroom was big compared to other hotels we've stayed at. Very roomy. Great view. Pillows and bed were so comfortable!

Hiro S.

Yelp
The location, location, and location...! You just cannot beat the location. Once you are there, you know you are so close to all those cool restaurants/bars. As others mentioned, one of the two elevators has been out (for awhile), but I did not have to wait for a very long time - except for one time (about 10 min). All the staff members I encountered were very friendly and easy to talk to, so I did not have any other issues.

Jim K.

Yelp
This is a very nice hotel with a great location in the Gold Coast area. Unfortunately, we had a large amount of cash stolen that was in plain view in our room. We did not realize that the hotel had daily housekeeping services. In all of our travels since the pandemic, no hotel has had housekeeping services without requesting it first. The theft was our fault, not the hotel's. I left the money in full view and should never have done that. Our room was extremely nice. We had a fantastic shower with a tropical overhead outlet and a shower wand. It was like everything had been refurbished within the past few months. The bathroom was great. Instead of individual toiletries, there were large bottles of shampoo, gel, and conditioner in the shower. They were quite thick and thus difficult to pump out, especially if you had wet hands and had to hold the bottle. This was the first hotel we can remember having a hardwood floor. It was good-looking. We never ate at the restaurant but the bar was quite nice. One thing that was interesting, is that there were always two or three employees by the front door but they never would open the front door for you. It made us wonder what their job was.

Megan S.

Yelp
We stayed for one night Christmas Eve and loved the whole vibe of the hotel. We were upgraded to a Jr Suite for our family and our girls enjoyed the big tub and the extra space. The view was fantastic and the breakfast was delicious. We'll definitely be back on our next Chicago visit. It feels like a small cozy hotel with warmth and little nooks and crannies to hang out. The location is perfect and the staff are friendly and super helpful.

Chris L.

Yelp
Very disappointed in this Thompson. Front desk staff aloof and not up to the standard customary at Thompson. 1 of 2 elevators, in this 21 floor hotel, broken. Not uncommon to wait 14 minutes for an elevator. No business center. No concierge or if there was one you wouldn't know it. Decor was dated and the common areas were dirty. Plenty of staff wandering around but their "give a care factor" was low. I think they were just numb to the amount of complaints received and just tuned out. Every other Thompson I've stayed in the staff greets you, the concierge actually engages and the lobby is immaculate. This was the polar opposite. Hotel bar was pleasant but small with a decent selection of beer and wine. The bartenders were knowledgeable and friendly which caused me to upgrade from 1 star. Have stayed in other Thompson hotels and they were spectacular. This one clearly missed the mark. This one really ranked just above a motel six. For the price 500+ per night my expectations are much higher.

Shim E.

Yelp
Not enough light to read a book or even to run the coffee machine. Hotels are expected to provide a bed, a bathroom, heating and hot water. The Thompson Chicago did that. But Thompson did not provide light in either of the rooms we rented (which by the way were on separate floors. The hotel did not provide an extra lamp that we asked for (in our two night stay) The hotel also had no restaurant or bar OF ANY KIND

Michael S.

Yelp
Always great service and a great room. Looking forward to my next stay. Quality property in a great location.

Jenerra A.

Yelp
The front desk staff here was very distasteful and did not demonstrate the standards and hospitality that other Hyatt Thompson locations display. After staying at The Thompson Atlanta, DC, Austin, Los Angeles and now Chicago - this location is easily the worst hospitality I've received. My recommendation would be for Jasmine at the front desk of The Thompson Chicago to receive training from the entire front desk staff at The Thompson DC and Austin who are absolutely outstanding and are the reason that I have become committed to this Thompson brand. This inconsistency in experience will cause me to reconsider this brand and referring others to it in the future. The experience at the front desk paired with the dated hallways and elevators caused us to check out and not stay there. Thankfully the manager decided to give us a refund and allowed us to leave.

Jon N.

Yelp
Honestly, the room was great. Comfortable, quiet... Front desk is a mixed bag. Check in was great. Never saw her again and every other interaction was a complete joke. Aloof, condescending or just downright incompetent. If you get into your room, and don't have to deal with hotel staff after that, you're golden. Bar closes by 10:30 PM. Nico Restaurant has posted hours of 10 PM close but is really a 9:30 PM last call, so you're out there... Just be happy there are other options close by to take care of you because the Thompson is not in the Customer Service business.

Jian M.

Yelp
The location is so great!! One block to the oak street. Ambience is great. Room is nice. The view is perfect! The bedding is so comfortable! 3 things to decrease the rating: 1) Front desk is nice, but sometimes they pick up the call and then forgot my requests :(( ( happen for me three times in a week) 2) Room is great but the soundproofing is not great. I can hear other room flushing the toilet :(( 3) The air conditioner has 26.5C cap and makes some noise when the target temperature is reached. And it is quite dry with the AC.

Jessica V.

Yelp
Love all the thompsons but Chicago location is special! Loved our room! Everything was spotless! The staff is friendly and attentive. The restaurant and bar are 10/10 and location is great! Gym is standard but they have peloton bikes you can use for free. Would stay again!

Leang E.

Yelp
You can't beat the location, in the heart of the Gold Coast near restaurants and shopping galore! It was great that we found free parking and to top off that they don't charge a dog fee. The staff was nice and the rooms were clean and relatively spacious to even have a little couch and coffee table was great! The only complaints were that the rooms were a little dim could use more or brighter lighting. We also had problems with the switches for the lights where maintenance had to come in and fix it temporarily since we were ok with it as as long as it worked for the moment.

Shalene W.

Yelp
The whole vibe of Thompson Chicago is super amazing. Even the customer service when you pull is top notch. I love the smell of the hotel. I'm not a shower gel person but love what they provided. They should sell it. The food in the bar was really good. My only complaint just like others is the parking and that dam elevator!

Chevon W.

Yelp
Housekeeping: lumpy bed was the initial red flag but the the rest was decent. Room: Very nice, clean and cozy. The bathroom lighting was well engineered. The walk-in shower head arrangement wasn't great. The overhead shower was the only hands-free showering option. The detachable sprayer was slim and insertable so I refused to touch it. Internet: absolutely horrible! Lobby: The coziest lounging area was right in front of the automatic doors, which compromised the comfort during busy times. Each seating section was perfectly arranged, decorated and curated. The art is phenomenal. There's a 2nd level lounge that remained closed but the seating arrangements were swanky. The lobby bar is super sexy. Saline Nico is everything!

Betsy M.

Yelp
Had a 3 night stay here and loved every minute of it starting/ending with the early check in and late check out. The hotel itself is lovely and within walking distance of shopping/dining. All of the staff I encountered were wonderful from the front desk and door staff to the food/beverage and housekeeping. We had meetings on their 3rd floor, many of our meals on the second floor. There is this door that has a placard with "Secret Staircase" on it which explains the local artist exhibit in the stairwell. What a TREAT!!! It was a lot of fun to check out the wall murals/paintings that I believe start at the forth down to the ground level. My room was facing Bellevue, a king room that was a really nice size with a huge bathroom and wall length walk in shower. Sleep quality was amazing. There was a mini bar in the room chock full of goodies, although I did not partake. While there is no coffee in the room, they serve coffee downstairs every morning around the corner from the lobby. Plus there is a Starbucks literally a two minute walk away that opens at 4:30-5AM and has mobile ordering. I truly loved my time here!

Ben S.

Yelp
Location The location couldn't be better. The hotel is walking distance to many good restaurants, in the middle of beautiful streets, a block from the beach, a couple blocks from shopping, and steps away from Michigan Ave without being in a location overrun by people. It's also maybe a 20 minute walk to the Riverwalk. There is a breakfast spot across the street, really nice restaurants across the street and around the corner and a great coffee shop a couple blocks away. There is a nice park across the street too. Couldn't be a better location. Room The room was very nicely appointed. The pillows were kind of flat though and the desk was horrible for working at because the chair was too low to the ground. I loved the shower though - it had to be 8 feet long and had a rain shower head. Food I didn't get to eat here as there was nothing open during the day time when one might want a snack. There was good and free coffee and tea in the lobby from 7-10 each day though. There was no room service "because of Covid." The hotel was signed up for the Butler app so you could order certain items online and have them delivered but from a third party. Staff were all very friendly. My room was ready by 2pm. There was daily housekeeping if requested. I would stay here again. I did think a few things were missing from the hotel that would have made it really top notch. The doormen were inconsistent in their service. There were no newspaper to be found.

Ann F.

Yelp
Love so much about this hotel....the location, the rooms, gym and service. We don't like the espresso maker, we prefer regular coffee, but that's the only downfall. Always our go-to when in Chicago!

Maria H.

Yelp
Most overrated Hotel ever! When I booked the rooms after looking at the reviews and the pictures I was expecting at least a good customer service but from the moment I arrived, the worst customer service from the people at the reception that clearly lied about my only request of having different rooms booked close together. Not only they gave me one room in different floors but the attitude was horrible. The lobby could not be tinier because it was impossible, the restaurant was closed due to renovations but they only tell you that when it's too late to reschedule. A tiny grab and go next to the only restroom at the lobby, which did not smell good at all. The internet took forever to connect. Rooms were fine but not very user friendly. Only good thing was the shower and that is the one star review. I would pay more and go to a different Hotel, there are many around so having that location is not worth it. Do not believe all the great reviews.

Yelp
I've stayed at this property a few times and this was my first visit here since it's been rebranded the Thompson. I think it's been upgraded very nicely and the service was very good. My room had a nice view of the lake and the location on Rush street is excellent if you want to stay in the Gold Coast area of Chicago.

Yelp
Nice hotel in Gold Coast area. Have a good breakfast and nice coffee shop nearby Hotel. So many restaurants around this hotel and all is the best in town. Also near high end shopping and near 360 view tower. 5 min walk to the beach. But that week I stay the elevator is broken and hold week it work only 1 elevator, but hotel sorry for that and give you free 1 drink everyday you stay here 3-5 pm.

Yelp
Centrally located within the Gold Coast, it's a great place to stay. Had a junior suite which had a separate lounge area w/ TV although we didn't really utilize. It was also a corner room, so we had a great view overlooking the skyline. Bed was very comfortable and bathroom had a nice walk-in shower. The fridge wasn't really a fridge since it didn't keep anything cold; looked like an unstocked minibar. The most annoying thing was that only 1 elevator worked and with 2 weddings booked during our stay, it definitely worked overtime. Every trip up and down seemed like a game of twister; luckily we were on a lower floor.

Yelp
We stayed at the Thompson Chicago for a long Easter Weekend. Check in was smooth and easy, and everyone from the doormen to the front desk clerk were very cordial and accommodating. The hotel itself is nice, with a bar and restaurant on the first floor. There is a gym on the 3rd or 4th floor, with very basic equipment and a couple of Pelotons. Now to the good part. We stayed in a double bed suite. The room was not small at all (not huge either), but a good size for a city stay. The large walk in shower was probably my favorite part, as it had a rainfall shower and you could literally fit 5 people in there! Bathroom was nice and updated. The beds were okay, a little on the lumpy side, but we all slept well regardless. We were on the 13th floor and had a view onto the busy Gold Coast neighborhood- did I mention the location is great? Just a short 10 minute walk to Michigan Ave (The Magnificent Mile), and down the street from many high end shops, think Prada, Louis, Gucci, etc. Would definitely stay here again, we enjoyed our stay.

Yelp
This is an extremely unprofessional hotel management. We encountered team member in the bar area that was extremely rude and negative tone in how he communicated for us to leave hotel bar area after closing time. I expressed to management and without any remorse she said she will speak to him. Instead she reported that I was hostel to her and they refused to extend our stay. I am a older man with class that certainly know how to conduct myself in public. The staff here are made to feel like they are superior to guest and they treat people of color with an intentional level of disrespect. It's extremely expensive and good service is earned here not provided because you pay for... it unless you are the normal clientele they would like to keep. It's obvious that the hotel has a pride themselves in this type of behavior because I saw a similar situation with another guest at the front desk which involved the Local authorities to be present. The original room assignment had housekeeping still cleaner it. I had to go back to front desk for reassignment. They did have room type promised with reservations. No apologies. And we are Globalist members. Room was not cleaned properly, you have to call for ice and wait until they provide it which may take forever. So if you want a hotel to have an amazing time without being judged because everyone is pretentious don't stay here. That's all I am saying. Stuffy and Prejudice.

Yelp
Did a 1-nite staycation and really enjoyed the location and the quality of this hotel. Located in the Gold Coast(aka the Viagra Triangle) it has more of a local feel than the loop/river north hotels which are just a bit south of the Thompson. Dog friendly at no extra charge. Walkable to the beach and lots of restaurants. Modern rooms with a comfortable bed and pillows. We opted for a suite and really enjoyed the extra room and views. The gym is basic with not a lot to offer but did the trick. The staff was very accommodating and surprised us with a bottle of bubbly for a special occasion. Little things like that go a long way in my book. I would defiantly return.

Yelp
This hip boutique hotel is nestled on the street corner of a bustling neighborhood with a fantastic restaurant scene. The hotel was exactly what I was looking for, easily walkable to many designer shops, fantastic restaurants and beautiful brownstones. As a Hyatt Discoverist I was able to check-in early via the app and simply grab the keys and go. The hotel staff were all wearing masks as mandated by Chicago and everyone was polite. The room itself (two queen beds) was nice in size and cleaned well. The toiletries were quite nice, loved when scent. "Interesting" art work above the beds, maybe not kid friendly if you're super conservative. The only confusion Was we were told our room wouldn't be cleaned so we didn't take some of the security precautions we normally would, but it was cleaned to our dismay (I usually forgo cleaning on a short stay like ours or 2 nights). We didn't eat at the hotel restaurants, way too many options just outside the hotel , they did have a coffee bar in the mornings but it was not very well stocked. I would highly recommend this hotel if you prefer a neighborhood boutique feel.

Yelp
We had such a wonderful interaction with Marcela in in-room dining! She was incredibly sweet and helpful. Thank you Marcela!

Yelp
I had the privilege of staying at the Thompson on two separate visits. Each time, the hotel staff always seemed to be there for anything I needed (or wanted)! Penthouse: The room was great! I loved the layout and the treatment from the moment we stepped foot into the hotel doors. The room featured a spiral staircase that could be dangerous if you are not careful...just hold on to the rail. The upper level is where the bedroom is located. There is a door that leads to more of the hotel, but it seemed to be for the hotel staff...so don't exit out the door in the bedroom. Views were nice and everything was clean. Lakeview Room: Nice room with all the standard amenities. Not as nice as the penthouse of course, but it shouldn't be :-) During this stay, we had a little incident with our keys not working, etc., but the hotel fixed it for us as there seemed to be some sort of software issue with the entire system. Our keys stopped working multiple times during this stay, but the staff was there is help us each time. In addition to the inside of the hotel, their location is unbeatable. I love being so close to all my favorite shops and eateries. Lastly, if you are looking for a great cup of coffee, Nico, attached to the hotel, has amazing coffee and offers it free during a certain time in the morning. Be sure to check with the front desk on this as I am uncertain on the time. Some of the hotel features include: *Hotel car that will take you to our favorite locations (within a certain mile range) *Great room service *Nice clean gym *Valet parking *Modern rooms and lobby area with plentiful seating *Easy access to Nico *Great views to the lake *Walking distance to shopping, eateries, and movie theater *LOVES dogs! This hotel is surely a favorite of mine when in the Chicago area. Joe and Alex at the front desk will cater to your every need! Give them a try and tell them Eboni sent you!!

Yelp
It's a nice space, but the experience and service leaves much to be desired. Came for a special birthday weekend that was to feel relaxing. 1-the beds are too firm. Not at all plush which made resting uncomfortable. 2-spoke with the front desk late morning to see what could be done. The guy was helpful and said he'd see that housekeeping do something. Unfortunately, 7 hrs later nothing was done. 3-went to the front desk and spoke to Trevor who was empathetic and connected with housekeeping on it. Two hrs later came to my room to find a mattress pad balled up on the bed. I don't work there, I'm on vacation so why should I be expected to take sheets off, put on the pad and put the sheets back on???? (Same feedback shared with them) 4-the guy who checked me in was a bit cold. Spoke so low, made little eye contact, no smile, no energy. There was no mention of amenities, of the lounge in the back, or anything else. Just given my key, info on Wi-Fi and sent on my way. Now I see tips mentioning service car....this was never mentioned to me. Found out from bartender front desk has complementary water. 5-my reservation included a $20 food/drink credit. Unfortunately it wasnt reflected in their system. So i had to pull out the reservation and show the details. Fortunately, the guy at the desk updated in the system and the hotel honored it. 6-with the room (superior) other than the firm bed.....its nice and spacious and I had a lovely view of the city. I asked if it would then be noisy and was told by the guy that checked me in, no...since I'm so high up. WRONG, but hey......thankfully things die down around midnight. 7-there are several lamps, but each has to be turned on/off individually. The main on/off switch by the door doesnt control all. Then when they're all on, it's still very dim in the room. There are other things in the room that could have been better, but overall it is nice with typical amenities (iron, safe, etc.) Now some may think I'm just complaining, and if you've never experienced top notch service i can understand why. For me, i have and from a hotel that's supposed to be luxury and vip i expected more. That all said, given MY experience I actually feel short changed after reading reviews of those who had great service.

Yelp
Located in the lovely side of Gold Coast. The service is excellent from the door mans to the check in staff and room service. My husband and I love their bar area and restaurant too. The bar has a staircase right as you approach the bar with different cozy and fun siting areas and the gigantic ivy plan growing with elegance and strapping down on a wall is just so pretty. The rooms are very nice. We had a suite and we were so happy with the windows and large sitting area. At night it looks so pretty with all the city lights dancing adding a nice ambiance to the room. We celebrated my birthday and it was a very nice stay. Also once we moved to Chicago, we kept coming back to their bar and had a few cocktails after having dinner at Tavern on rush because the atmosphere is very nice here. Also we had friends from Dallas Texas and Boston I. Town so we bright then over for a few drinks here.

Yelp
This place is thrumming with comfort. The bedding is lush, the lighting is easy on the eyes, and the bathroom with it's true waterfall shower is luxurious. Bath robes are readily nearby, too. A refrigerator and espresso maker with bottled water complete with spectacular views add to the atmosphere as does the entry foyer, bar and restaurant. Yes, the valet is $75/night, and the restaurant is $$$$-rated, but it's all comfort, all the way. Worth every bit. Service is on point!

Yelp
Super chic hotel, located right in the heart if the Gold Coast. Tons of restaurants within eyesight if the lobby, a Walgreens around the corner, and within easy walking distance to several high end stores. I dont remember if there is a garage or self park, but there are plenty of parking garages nearby. Staff here is very friendly, and elevators are secured with key card access. Bathrooms are huge, with a rainfall shower head and perfect selfie lighting - if your into that sort of thing.

Yelp
I am a professional Freelance Makeup Artist in Chicago and I frequent the most prestigious hotels while glamming my clients. I've seen it all! Or so I thought. Exhausted after a wedding party, I announced that I was going to the bar to grab a martini while I cleaned up but the bar was closed. One of Thompson's finest employees Ricardo Nieto overheard the conversation, called his manager Giuliano immediately, and asked him to make and deliver an espresso martini to me! I haven't seen this level of customer service since Miracle on 34th St. when Kris Kringle sent parents to Macy'c competitors for the toys that were out of stock. You think I'm joking...I'm not. In this day and age when people barely look up from their phones, a random act of kindness is quite unexpected and totally needed. It's this level of service that will make me recommend Thompson Chicago over its competitors any day of the week. Cheers Ricardo & Giuliano for making my day! Xx, Dawn Bliss @dawnblissbeauty

Yelp
Loved: -service -lounge area Disliked: -Room, was very plain. Nothing is provided beyond shampoo/conditioner/body wash. 1 robe for 2 person stay. No slippers. No ice bucket. No mini toiletries. For me personally little details matter.

Yelp
Extremely disappointed in this Thompson Chicago hotel. As a hyatt globalist, i have never encountered service like this from a hyatt hotel. The front desk person who is also the manager as she stated, Irina, refused to give out any service with a very nasty attitude. Not to mention, no one even picks up from the front desk around 8-9PM.

Yelp
The Thompson hotel definitely curates your experience that you'll get as a Chicago visitor. The customer service has been the best I've ever received at any hotel. The gentlemen in the lobby will open doors for you and greet you politely. The night bar staff for my stay 12/15-12/18 has also been amazing. No matter how busy it got we always received delicious drinks from friendly personalities. When checking in I want to note and give special appreciation to the guy who checked us into our room. I feel so bad I never got his name but he was the night staff at about 6:00 on 5/15. I hope he can get proper recognition for being so professional and friendly. He set the tone for our trip and made sure we had the perfect room that met all of our needs. Very gorgeous, cozy, perfectly located hotel. In the city but also not in the busiest parts. Thanks Thompson!

Yelp
The Thompson Chicago exceeded my already high expectations! My sister and I were going to a wedding last weekend at Notre Dame and we decided to come a day early and spend time in Chicago. My friend Kelli recommended the Thompson Chicago. It is more than I usually spend for a hotel room but my sister and I shared the room and we wanted to stay somewhere really special as we have never traveled just the two of us together. Oh my gosh, it was worth every penny! The staff is top notch. Carter helped us at the front desk. He was very helpful and friendly and helped us with directions. Cheryl helped us at the concierge desk. She told us fun things to do around town and also agreed with our cousin that said we must do the architectural building boat tour. Cheryl gave us a card for Lou Malnati's Pizzeria-it was for a free appetizer or dessert-so that's where we had our lunch and got a free cookie pizza after our yummy pizza that was delicious! She also gave us discount cards for Macy's and Bloomingdales. (And I found a Rebecca Minkoff purse on sale at Bloomingdales and got to use my discount card on top of the sale price!) She also made our boat tour reservations and our dinner reservations at Le Colonial. She told us if we were running late to dinner, to let her know-they know the people at the restaurants and can accommodate us. Always check with the concierge-they are so helpful and usually have good tips and discounts. We thoroughly enjoyed Cheryl (and Carter too!). Also- Gina on staff-she was excellent! We told her that we needed to figure out the train to take to South Bend, Indiana for the wedding we were attending. Well she told us she would look into it while we were shopping and when we came back she had everything researched and written out and even drew out a map with info. Her writing was so perfect she looked like she had bought the card! I will enclose a picture. We were so impressed. Oh-the atmosphere of the hotel. Wonderful. Trendy, chic and comfortable at the same time. In the morning we didn't have a coffeemaker in our room but so glad we didn't as they had the most excellent coffee and tea in the lobby. Everything you would need! We ended up eating breakfast at their restaurant Nico Osteria after coffee. This hotel is in the cutest neighborhood. Loved all the brownstone buildings. The area is called the Gold Coast. Great shopping was everywhere in walking distance. Places all around to eat too, and lots of outdoor seating. Loved it. When we got back from dinner at El Colonial, we were so tempted to have a drink outside-it was Thursday night and so many people were out and about enjoying the weather-but we were too tired! So we retired to our wonderful room. The beds were super comfortable, loved everything about our hotel.
