Mulligan's

It was my very first time in Dublin and in this pub. I was surprised by the people’s warmth and attention we got from staff. It was around 6 pm and it was not too crowded —but there were a few seats available. I had such a great time and the pint of Guinness was very pleasant! It wasn’t as expensive as I thought it’d be. I’d definitely recommend this place :)

Cracking pub. Sign behind the bars asks you to not use mobile phones. I did my best to abide by that but couldn't resist a few photos. Was busy on a Tuesday evening in January. Guinness was great and very authentic crowd. Not touristy despite it's good reputation.

Great Pub for a very authentic Irish bar experience. Not frequently visited by tourists. Nice spot to grab a refreshing Murphys. It was recommended by an Irish friend and definitely a bar I would visit again.

We didn't have any food we just went to get some drinks but we didn't see any menu for food either. Ordered and paid at the bar for drinks and just find wherever you can sit or stand. It's a very wholesome and authentic Irish bar in the feel and apparent! Love the atmosphere 🍻

As soon as I get off the train from Belfast I try and figure out how soon I’m getting to Mulligan’s. I know a lot of my friends are the same! The standard across every pint is so so high.

This pub was recommended to my brother in law as one of the best pubs in Dublin to get a pint of Guinness. It's a very old pub with lots of character. He really enjoyed his Guinness 😊

Great bar - was told best pint of Guinness in Dublin. However there was some complaining it was a bit flat and not up to its usual standard. I wouldn’t have known the difference. Great pints Talked to some regulars who frequent the place before they head to the George. They said it’s a great spot to meet up with new and old friends.

Best pint of Guinness in Dublin. I'd go as far as to say better than you get in the Guinness factory. Well worth a visit. Also very reasonable priced compared to Temple Bar.

Don't expect anything here except probably the best pint of Guinness in Dublin. Walking in... standard Irish joint with some Locals sitting at tables reading the newspaper! Service is dry and the place seems cold but don't let that discourage you.. they have a great pint! Next door is Vintage Kitchen and you can bring your beer over there or have a nightcap here. Recommended by a Dublin local, Mulligans Bar exceeded our expectations. Despite being bustling with locals, the bartenders were swift in serving us. The Guinness was impeccably fresh and chilled. We'll certainly be back for more!

My wife and I went here on a recent trip to Dublin. I have to say I'm really not a fan of live music in pubs back in the US, but the experience here was entirely different. Everything was warm and convivial, folks were friendly and the beer was good! Couldn't ask for more.

Had so much fun. Went to visit for a BDay celebration. Great place. Great atmosphere. Awesome staff. Would definitely go back.

I stopped in here for a pint. I'm not exactly why I stopped in here for a pint other than the fact that I was in Dublin and it was a bar that looked like fun. And it was! I met fellow travelers and chatted for a bit. One even trusted me to watch her purse, which was a little weird but whatever. Fortunately I am a very trustworthy person. I had a local cream ale here and was on my way shortly thereafter. If you're considering a pub crawl, I'd recommend this welcoming, traditional spot. There's ample seating here, which I always appreciate.

A great Dublin pub to be sure. I remember when I first moved to Dublin and mobile phones were the new rage, Mulligans famously refused to allow anyone to use them! I think this was before the time people had the smarts to turn their phone to quiet. Needless to say, I wasn't told to put it away when checking in or taking snaps. Apart from that, not much else seems to have changed. Apart from the beer selection, they do now stock a range of craft beer as well as the more main stream fare. The big tables here were ideal for our group of people. Lots of people. The decor is still fantastic Dublin Pubish and the staff prompt. A most excellent visit.

Beautiful cozy inviting dining room in the back. Waitress was pleasant. Explained the specials and menu. We had the soup special potato thyme soup. Served piping hot. Absolutely delicious! Then we had the chicken liver pate. Decadent. Probably the best I had in a long time. I had the roasted chicken with stuffing and roasted potatoes fried in duck fat. Still in a food trans. My husband had the ribeye. Cooked perfectly rare. He said his steak was tender. My daughter enjoyed the venison burger. All in all a very pleasant meal to end our week long stay in Dublin !

Stopped in here to relax and grab a beer on a trip in summer 2019. We were exhausted from walking around, and Mulligan's is a good place to hang out and chat. If you're from the states and are looking for a pit stop place, I suggest Mulligan's for sure.

You want a proper Dublin pub? Come here. Dark wood, 1960's fixtures and fittings. We sat at the bar and a frosted glass feature was between us and the bartender, you poked your head under it to ask the bartender for a drink. Great spot, great mix of age groups and sexes. And how about the pints? Easily in my top 5 of the best places for Guinness... Mmm craving one now!

A review below pointed out that Mulligans has been around since 1782 and they knew this because it says EST 1782 somewhere above the door. The pub was not on Poolbeg street in 1782 however! no siree! back then you would have found this pub on Thomas street beside the old corn market. the pub only came to Poolbeg street in 1854 so don't be fooled into thinking the pub as it stands is as old as it says! Anyway, I'm being pernickety! its a great pub, super old no matter how long its been there. It probably hasnt changed since it was built and thats what gives this place the charm that everyone talks about.

This is hands down, my favorite pub in Dublin. Not touristy, no frills, old decor and locals. This is the perfect place to come for a pint and a chat. I love the sign above the bar that reads "When I die, bury me under the pub... so my husband will visit me 7 days a week!" Very good pints and very chill atmosphere. When you're looking to dodge the touristy parts of Dublin, slip into Mulligan's for a pint. Some say it's the best pint in Dublin, and I'm inclined to agree with them.

This was my favorite pub in Ireland. Friendly small town feel and €5 pints. Best price in Dublin! Bartender was informative, friendly, and helpful. Offered free samples of a few other beers on tap. Great experience and highly recommend!

Mulligans on Poolbeg St was established in 1782. If you ever visit Mulligans, you will be sure to find this out for yourself almost immediately upon entering the place, as they have a big sign saying "EST. 1782" almost right inside the front door. This should probably give you an indication as to the type of pub that Mulligans is. After being around for a long time and getting itself a reputation as a decent boozer, it copped onto the fact the fact that it could flog this status to tourists, and it hasn't looked back since (they mention the fact that James Joyce drank there on their website, and any mention of Joyce is pure yank-bait.) Despite being lousy with tourists most of the time, Mulligans is still a grand spot. Nice cosy little bar, decent pints of stout, no TV or radio, what more could you want? Still, it would be nicer if it was just a nice old pub, though, and not a nice old pub that has to harp on about the fact that it is a nice old pub. Hopefully The Long Hall will not catch on to flogging its venerability to the tourist crowd, or it will ruin the place completely.

Classic Dublin pub established in 1782. It is filled with friendly locals who are "for the people". I think that I was the only tourist in there and had a great time in this crowded pub. Great whiskey was consumed!

Mulligan's is an auld, auld Dublin pub - no frills, nothing fancy and certainly no cocktails. Call it sparse, simple, a little shabby , rustic or 'antique chic' , whatever, the truth is that the plain surroundings are a big part of its charm. You could walk by Mulligan's and miss it, there's not much of a fanfare outside and exterior doesn't exactly scream 'come on in', but you should duck in for a pint. Inside, the atmosphere is full of lively chat and it does have a special sparkle to it - maybe it holds the memory of all of those long forgotten nights of revelry within its walls! The price of drink is decent (always with the proviso 'for Dublin') - four drinks for 21 yo-yos!

A local pub in the city centre. It's far enough off the Temple Bar to not be rammed full off tourists, instead it seems it's probably the most popular 'local' as it seemed rammed full of Dubliners. A traditional Irish pub which seems quite small on the outside but is quite cavernous for a ground floor pub. It has two long saloon bars one which ends in a small snug room and the other in a much larger 'beer hall' for the lack of a better word.

I was introduced to this pub by my uncle years ago and I've always been glad he did. A classic pub that has done well to keep itself untainted by modern clutter and noise. There's no music played, just good conversation and truly fantastic pints of the black stuff. The private room at the back of the bar is a great spot if you can get into it. High recommended for a good chat with friends!

Dive bar through and through, yet a nice dive bar as dive bars go. You'd never find this place unless you happened to be lost and wandered down the side street on your way to a neighboring office/industrial building. This place holds an even mix of locals and tourists in my view. I've been here a few times now and any future visit to Dublin will include a stop in to say "hi" to the boys behind the bar and have my obligatory Guinness pint! Plain décor and casual atmosphere where no one feels the need to impress anyone else in the place. Sit down, sip a pint and chat up the folks standing around you. Not much else to add here, except, do NOT subject yourself to the depressing back room at a table. Only socialize on one side of the two bar areas. One side is diveier (is that a word??) than the other side. Dress up and go to the upscale side one night to mix it up!

Here's a place that reminds me of working Dublin. The walls are lined with Dublin's history, big and small: the passing of a beloved teacher, awards from a local business society, references to Joyce, ah, and the races. The pub is, like many old Dublin institutions, divided by the bar into two halves. The left half seems to have a bit more of the craic, but the right is where you learn your stories. The back has what look like proper dining areas, though I can't be sure if anything more than Arthur's liquid dark bread is ever consumed. The pints are poured with care, and they are taking part in the Brewer's Project, meaning you can try all the "experimental" beers Guinness is playing with these days. The beer selection runs the full spectrum. Conveniences are in fair condition, and not even down any steps, making this place friendly for all ages, 8 to 80. I'd give it two thumbs up, but my hands are full of pints, so cheers!

C'mon now. Deep breaths. Puuuuuush. You're doing great. Keep going, keep going. Almost there now. I can see a head. One more push. On three. Time almost stops. One. You tense up. Your body knows this is it. You're already exhausted. Sweat is dripping from your forehead. It's hard to breath. Two. You muster up all the bravado that a vodka redbull can provide. Three. Your mind and heart are racing. Adrenaline courses through your veins. Go. Everything that happens in the next few seconds is a blur. You didn't think it was possible. That last push -- the hardest of them all -- finally did it. Congratulations, you have gotten up to the bar and shoved a thousand other thirsty punters out of the way. "It's jammers in here, isn't it?" You don't need to tell anyone that, nor are you waiting for an answer. They all know. You've been here before and you know this place is always, always completely packed. Once you've gotten your beer and settled in, the dress code begins to dawn on you. Why aren't you wearing a suit? At the very least, you ought to be sporting a sports jacket. Your Hawaiian shirt and shorts make you the most under-dressed person in the place. Casting your eyes over the populace, you see that everywhere else is white shirts and black jackets. Occasionally, you spot a colourful tie which only serves as a painful reminder to how much your shirt stands out. This shirt is going in the bin when you get home. It has been raining all day and you're not even sure why you wore it. Some persons will make the claim that this pub serves the best pint of Guinness in the city. I contest that this is an absurd claim and challenge anyone [to a taste test] otherwise; To hold a standard beer on a pedestal and claim one particular instance is of the highest quality seems bizarre, given that all pints of Guinness are of identical composition and origin. Nevermind that the definition of quality is elusive and undefinable (unless, of course, you subscribe to the philosophy of Pirsig; In which case the beer you hold in your hand right now is the one of the highest quality.) It's probably pretty tasty, regardless of your worldview. Drink up.

So... every other review preceding me by giving you a history lesson on this boozer... i'm not that stupid, you want to know about the pint, I know this! This is the greatest pint of Guinness in Dublin, therefore there is no better pint of Guinness on the planet, trust me! Go in, order a pint of Guinness, wait a a little under 2mins, throw a fiver on counter, take you change and sit down and drink! This is the definition of what every single Guinness ad you have ever seen is about! When drinking a pint this good, the fact that the place is falling down, smells a bit and may have the odd pretentious Pulitzer prize winner wanna-be sitting beside you, pretending to read Ulysses, is irrelevant. I cannot stress this enough... GO HERE! not the cheapest pint around, but easily the best value.

I've walked by Mulligans many a time but never popped in but last week I was meeting friends there so I finally got to cross the threshold. Smells like a boozer? Check. Looks like a boozer? Check. Feels like a boozer? Check. I was on home soil and the week's tension was exorcised as I took the first sip of that first cold pint. Mulligans is the epitome of what a bar should be. No music to drown out chat, no shiny new surfaces to make Neville Knot weep with joy. Just a place for a good pint and a good chat.

Btw, and I'm surprised no one has mentioned this, Mulligans was the favoured watering hole of the characters from the series 'Bachelors Walk', which was filmed in Dublin about 10 years ago. The series was practically an advertisement for drinking at Mulligans... so there you go, RTE approval to head to the boozer on Poolbeg St.

Not a lot of tourists here so it was probably one of my favorite pubs in Dublin. Lots of locals and probably the best Guinness I'll ever have. I came back twice in 4 days so you know it was good. The bartender was quick and friendly. Very professional. I recommended this place to everyone I met since the experience was one of a kind. I even have a magnet that I bought from this place to remember to stop by the next time I'm in Dublin.

A real gem of a pub. No cocktails, no food and no frills. Just how a local pub should be. Mulligan's is steeped in history and tradition and has a wonderful atmosphere. Although, not too far from the hustle, bustle and paddy-whackery of Temple Bar, it really is leagues apart. If you want a glimpse of what an authentic Irish pub looks like, pay a visit. You won't be disappointed.

GO THERE! NOW! It is a little bit off the path, but then... not really off the path. If you don"t know it, you would not suspect it to be there. It is the quintessential Irish pub, probably the best I've been in Dublin. It is... I don't know how to say... original in terms of atmosphere and guests. So - just go there.

This boozer is quality. For all you Guinness drinkers out there, This is where you should go for top of the range roasters (pints of guinness). Gets extremely busy at times but this can only be a good thing. Definitely one of my top 5 Dublin pubs.

Mulligans doesn't care whether you like it or not. It hasn't changed since my first visit in the mid-90's, and nobody wants it to. Mulligans is a time machine to a simpler Dublin, before cocktails and bar food. If that's your idea of hell, you have plenty of other options nearby and Mulligans will not, cannot, must not change. Keen-eared drinkers will enjoy eavesdropping on the journalists and political backroom staff who swap gossip here.

A world Classic. Dublin Pubs do not get better than this. That the standard of Guinness is staggeringly high is reason enough but this place has something timeless in its stained wood fittings. The Bar area is the best place to get a feel for how Dublin pubs probably were decades ago. Its ceiling is low and you feel as if you are entering a secret as you step through the door. But as the place fills and the hubbub of conversation rises, Mulligans is transformed into a celebration of life, an oasis away from the real world in where friendship, love conviviality, philosophy and beer mix wonderfully. A classic time-warp, a classic pub.

I've been to Mulligans thrice: three years ago, two years ago, and very recently. There was very little variation between the visits. Each time it delivered what you want in a stellar Irish pub: a fresh, rich pint; patrons from varied walks of life; a sense of history and camaraderie. My reading tells me the Irish Times was born here, and there's something remarkably reflective, even inspiring, about the main back room that gives the place a newsy, broody feel. If I didn't know that literary intellects had previously occupied these barstools, would I still feel this way? I don't know, but I've convinced myself that it's palpable. The pub is brilliant at 5 or 6 pm on a summer's weekday. The financial and business suit-and-tie crowd is five feet deep and spilling out the double doors onto the street, vying for those precious moments of sun and cigarettes-before-home. It can get obnoxious, but the energy is electric. In all, deserving of a visit. Pints are slightly pricier here than other Dublin haunts.

I'm giving this place 4 stars, its a pub I really enjoy this time of year. Friends return from afar for the Xmas period and Mulligans provides the "Irish" sauce of life that is required to reintroduce them to what they missed. This is a bar where you can go on your own to read the paper/a book and strike up a conversation with someone else who is there for the same reason. I like the fact that there is no music, and the barmen just keep pouring Guinness to pre-empt orders! (order a "Bud" and get a strange look - too right IMO) On the the downside, during the summer its full of tourists. Plus as it so popular they don't see the need to drop their prices in line some other pubs in town!

Off the beaten path, but not difficult to find. Astoundingly sound staff, and an excelelnt selection of- and support for - craft breweries. Always jammers. Why? Because it's that good.

I liked it here so much I went twice. One of the most wonderful 'old man' bars I've ever had the pleasure of drinking in. During the afternoon (of my Friday visit anyway) it was dark, completely uncrowded and perfect for some meaningful convo or a bit of quiet contemplation. Later that night, it was as convivial and bustling as any pub in town. I'm sure there may well be many better Guinnesses (Guinneae?) in town but the best I had during my all too brief first time visit to Dublin was here.

Best Guinness in town ! Lived and worked in Dublin for 3 years, went there loads of times after work, on my way to the Dart at Tara Station - it's an unspoilt gem within all this touristy Pub's and Bar's in Dublin. Grumpy barmen, no music and they can draw a Guinness, which is also very rare ;-) Luv it and miss it !

Tucked away on Poolbeg Street this gem is quite well known judging by the tourist traffic it receives. Not surprising either as it is what it is, a genuine Irish pub. Not the tacky, diddly-i kind but the real deal. The staff are welcoming and are never patronising to tourists ordering their glass of Guinness (which many city centre pubs are guilty of). It's not shy on locals either which makes sense as it's definitely one of the best pints of Guinness in town. Whether it's a cheeky after work pint or a Saturday session, Mulligans has you covered

We shot a short film here last semester, in the back room. The management and staff were exceptionally helpful throughout. We did have to get out bang on five o'clock though, the place was jammers-on a Tuesday!

A famed Dublin pub, especially for the Guinness. However a friend of mine who drinks Kilkenny, proclaimed its pint to be the best he ever had, too. Is well worth finding, has a few large tables for groups, and some nice nooks for more intimate gatherings. And doesn't pretend to be anything other than a quality old-style Dublin Boozer. Lacks a smoking area, but then you've missed the point, haven' t you? Go back inside.

Mulligan's claims to have the best Guinness and although it tasted the same to me this was our favorite pub. We seemed to have been the only tourists. Everyone else appeared to be locals stopping in for a drink after work to watch the game. The most enjoyable experience was overhearing those wonderful Irish accents and watching yell for their team.

Mulligan's of Poolbeg Street is an institution in Dublin and I don't think I've ever met anyone who didn't love it. It's a really old bar, full of history and the crowd it gets these days is generally mixed. Anyone after a good pint of Guinness will venture in there at some stage as it's one of the best in town. I always end up here on All-Ireland day every year - as do a lot of the people pouring out of Croke Park. If we're lucky enough the have the sun shining everyone drinks outside on the street and the barmen come out from time to time to entice us onto the footpath for fear of being knocked down by the buses coming around the corner. It's always fun - pints, service and atmosphere that you just can't beat.

Last stop on what turned out to be an impromptu Wednesday night Pub Crawl with my wife. We were doing "research" on some out of the way pubs from the Temple Bar area to visit with our family and friends coming to Dublin this summer. Decided on a visit at the last minute since the warm glowing lights and the raucous crowd outside seemed to be inviting us in for one last pint. Turned out to be just alright, definitely other pubs in and around city with a little more charm and character. Service was a bit gruff, but who cares the Guinness was good.

Kind of an old man's pub but it feels like Dublin. Lots of space in the back of the pub if you're gathering with a group of friends. Serves up a great pint.

I really liked Mulligan's. As soon as I walked in, I did feel out of place. I was the only female in the room, and most of the guests were in their mid to late 40's. But I loved that. It felt real and authentic. They have WiFi and the bartender was such a sweetheart offering me suggestions on what to do in Dublin. And I also agree with most of the other reviewers; the Guinness was delicious and it cost 4.90 euros for a pint.

What a great pub. Best Guinness in Dublin. Staff are friendly and good banter. Pints after work on Fridays. Happy days.
