"Eat and Shop {Rome} Having a famous food writer as a neighbor is a great thing. For example, of one of the great things is phone calls for impromptu lunches in the middle of the week. The next thing you know you are eating fois gras sandwiches and drinking glasses of sparkly franciacorta. All in the name of research. Star chef Cristina Bowerman and restaurateur Fabio Spada of Glass teamed up with the brothers Pierluigi and Alessandro Roscioli of their eponymous restaurant and bakery to create Romeo. Romeo is first of all a really top notch restaurant, with striking decor and extraordinary food It is also a spot for a quick slice of piazza bianca at 11:00am. You can choose, have an elegant multi-course meal or a quick sandwich at the bar. But wait there's more! One of the really terrific things about Romeo is the bakery and cheese counter at the front of the space. Stock up on hard to find English Stilton and Spanish Iberico hams and French butter. You know I will be back. There is a hamburger on the menu."

The ambience is very modern and fun. Wait staff are attentive although not once did they refill my wine — I had to pour it myself! As for the food, some dishes were excellent while others were just so, so. Tarte - excellent crust, creme filling and tomato acidity - wonderful contrasts in the mouth Cavatelli with ricotta - yawn, not impressive at all Gnochetti cacio pepe - OMG delicious! Tartare- missing acidity as a foil for the meat, toast was dryer than 4-day old bread Ziti with onions - tasted a bit like french onion soup with pasta thrown in - it was difficult to get the sauce and pasta in one bite After our experience at Sister restaurant Glass, I was expecting a more consistently good experience. Too many low points for a restaurant of this caliber. Also, 3€ for bread, really?

I had booked this place at least month ahead. Not having been before and having visited the Romeo website and one magazine review I thought it would be an interesting place to visit for dinner. Bowerman a former one star michelin chef. So, I think I will have a good experience with rave reviews of her past experience as a chef. I also booked this place thinking this is a serious Italian fusion food serving coleslaw with Pork barbecue sauce. Coleslaw being one of my childhood favorite food. First of all, we were only allowed to sit outside-not the most pleasant place for outdoor dining. It is near a major street. But the sun was blazing hot. Our dinner was on a Sunday and 730 pm. Not sure why no one were allowed to sit inside a huge restaurant. Maybe Romeo should have mentioned this prior to coming here. There was only one waiter who seem to manage spotify on her phone for music ambience-U2 and several rock and pop music blowing thru the place very loudly over the speakers. This one waiter waited on our table, served the food and the wine. There was one other person who seemed fearful of this one waiter who was reprimanded by talking to us. I think this one waiter also might have prep the food and cooked it also. She was not unpleasant but not very friendly-but I could feel her unhappy mood working on a Sunday by herself? Food-not bad but not up to par for Ms Cristina's reputation. Overall the meal was uninspiring and lifelessly presented. The place seem tired and dying slowly from lack of attention by any management? The Chef was not there cooking. I saw her arrive with purple hair on the phone-then walking away from the restaurant lost in her conversation. It was not a good experience-the reputation of this establishment is overblown. My expectations every time as a customer willing to come to a restaurant should be warm and exceptional. This place is probably most joyless and soulless place to dine in Rome I have experienced during my visits.

I enjoy this restaurant cum bakery cum bar cum sandwich bar cum gourmet supermarket. It has some delicious, basic Roman meals prepared with class and skill. The staff are very polite and the service is top class. The bakery makes amazing pizza bianca (the delicious Roman foccaccia) and other yummy breads and pastries. It's very close to the metro and not far from San Pietro. A fun and yummy dining experience.

When going to new eating or drinking establishments in Rome, one regularly wonders, 'how, why do the owners invest the hundreds of thousands of euros in a business just to provide low quality food with untrained staff'? Unfortunately, this is the take on Romeo - setting is just okay, prices, quality, and service are each abysmal in their own ways.

Funny I booked this restaurant a month before I arrived in Italy. For July 12 dinner for 4. Got a confirmation email the day before saying if I didn’t show up I will be charged 35 Euros. I show up and it’s closed with a sign on the door “ closed for July” Hahahaha I could only laugh.

Wow...Giulietta the sister restaurant is fine but Romeo was really disappointing. We got a glass of red wine that was off (ok that can happen) followed by menu description about chickpea balls with salad ( uhm, if you consider less than a finger full of alfalfa salad)....then the gnocchetti caccio pepe with crispy artichoke...well, I thought the artichoke would have been edible, not just decorative outer inedible artichoke pieces and got about 2 tablespoons of gnocchetti as entire meal. Oh well, live and learn. Can't come back.
