An easy online booking process, and two follow up messages by Rising Sun Workshop served both as confirmations and reminders. Conveniently located in a side lane just metres off the main road. My wife and I were welcomed and given an option of dining upstairs or downstairs near the kitchen (even though we had selected a table near the kitchen). The motorcycle workshop downstairs creates an interesting atmosphere and a talking point. We were offered drinks before our meal and as we don’t drink, we ordered water and Coke Zero (to be told they didn’t sell Coke) but the server suggested the homemade ginger beer. This was a great choice, it was refreshing and not too sweet. We were pretty set on our menu prior to visiting, having seen the social media ads, so we had the Darkness ramen, Karage chicken, and the pork gyoza with chilli sauce. The karage chicken pieces were bigger than I’m used to, however, they were cooked well and juicy inside but came with this magical sauce that had a slight kick and made the dish. The gyoza dish was nice, normally I could have done another serve but because the karate chicken was so big I didn’t need to. The highlight for me though was the ‘Darkness’, a rich broth, delicious pork belly slices, a pinch of caramelised onion, and a slightly poached egg yolk but what made the dish for me was the mushrooms, marinated or cooked in what tasted like a ginger soy sauce. We had planned on having the sticky date pudding but were too full to have dessert. We weren’t disappointed at all, a great dining experience.
