"Preux & Proper is yet another newish addition to LA's growing downtown bar and restaurant scene. The New Orleans-inspired spot features an elegant but unstuffy interior: white walls and tile are grounded by dark floors and black leather stools and banquettes, and there are open-air patios on both floors. For an upscale, ladylike dining experience and fresh oysters (proper), sit upstairs. For a more rowdy bar scene and the opportunity to test their 6 separate frozen Daiquiri flavors (preux), stay on the first floor."

"There’s something special about the Nashville hot fried chicken sandwich at Preux & Proper, downtown’s New Orleans-inspired Southern restaurant. The chicken, massive and seasoned with all the right spices, comes topped with slaw and a buttered bun. House pickles are served on the side." - Eater Staff

This restaurant seriously has it all when it comes to a top-notch LA eatery. The space is so unique and is packed with historical charm. I love the two levels of P&P, with the lower level feeling more casual with a bar. The upper level features dim lighting for a romantic ambiance, and a gorgeous outside patio. We came here with a totally open mind and were completely blown away. The attention to detail that Preux and Proper puts into their food & drinks is unparalleled. Chef Sammy took time to explain the restaurant's philosophy when it comes to sourcing (only the best, most ethical, and highest quality ingredients). In a sea of restaurants that are quick to crank out recipes & plates without caring much for the ethical aspect of the business, it's truly incredible to support a business that does. Of all the things we tried, my favorites were the Grilled Yellow Sweet Corn (packed with SO many flavors), Fried Pork Belly (incredibly tender), and Liberty Farms Organic Duck Breast (must- try!). Service here is excellent, and I suggest making a reservation or coming here before the dinner rush. Every minute we spent here was savored in the best food & ambiance. Couldn't recommend Preux and Proper enough for all occasions. I very much look forward to when I have the chance to host a celebration dinner with friends here!

Went for the DineLA menu and it did not disappoint. Our server was awesome and made some great recommendations. The octopus was outstanding, perfectly prepared, so much flavor and a very generous portion. We also had the pork belly and it was excellent. So many flavors and cooked right. Would definitely go back to try other menu items.

The location is prime but the stench of garbage wafting in from the streets while you sit on the patio is overwhelming. We moved inside where there were fewer flies and the garbage smell had almost disappeared. We ordered the rabbit risotto ($40+) and an eggplant feta dish along with a couple of drinks. The food was average which was unfortunate because I was really looking forward to an authentic New Orleans meal. Not a place I would recommend. The service was alright though.

Trying out some new Southern! Rabbit, pork, lamb, and beignets, we got the major good groups covered! They really did this place right in a slightly unconventional wedge corner lot. I forgot to take pics of the cocktails but you really should try them (the old fashioned was tad too sweet)

The food was good but not spectacular. Its almost as if they were/are trying to hard to do something creative. The ingredients are fresh and quality. I came for brunch. The food was filling. I looked at the regular dinner menu and it looks good but not sure if I'd risk coming back. I say try it. I may come back to try the key lime pie. I love key lime pie.

Such a great restaurant with the lovely vibe. Interesting building shape that they make really great use of. Food and drink are amazing and the service is great. Staff is really friendly and service is amazing. Outdoor patio is very nice. There's a parking lot located right across the street which is very convenient.

Every dish we tried was amazing! This included Fried Mississippi Catfish, Baked Mac & Cheese, Dungeness Crab Hush puppies, Chicken Fried Pork Belly, and Smoked Pork Chop. The Beignets and Fruit Cobbler were yummy as well. Recommend visiting in a group of at least 4, so you can try more items on the menu. Waiting staff were friendly and attentive. Can't wait to visit again to try other items on the menu. Valet parking is on Spring Street, and costs $10.

Can’t say enough about this place, seriously one of the best meals I have had to date. The flavors are incredible and some is the best pickles I have had. Old fashioned was uniquely done. Finished off with the strawberry shortcake with brown butter crumbles, so good I would fight you for it.
