On the Grid : Pershing Square

"Despite multiple re-designs throughout its history, this one block parcel of outdoor community space has long been derided by design professionals. Its current state, conceived by Ricardo Legoretta in the early 90's, is bedecked by colorful post-modern geometries that, on one hand, create an unseemly contrast against the surrounding scenery, and on the other, add a plucky air of whit and whimsy. Pay a visit to the Wednesday farmers' market, or enjoy a spin around a temporary ice rink come winter's moderate months." - Canopy

This is the perfect place for summer concerts and to relax. They showcase a variety of different styles and themes of entertainment. The sound of the music can be heard in all directions of the square. The concerts are safe and secure with plenty of security and options to eat and drink while enjoying your favorite music. There are places to sit and dances your heart out throughout the area. It is not expensive to enter; you can get free tickets through the site provided and up grade to ViP for a small fee. The is plenty of parking available for a small reasonably priced fee in the surrounding area and are a short distance away. There is also transportation available throughout the city using the metro, tap, train and uber. The architecture of the surrounding buildings complement each other and those who enjoy observing the older buildings in the neighborhood. The park in general is great for walking and enjoying a moment for yourself.

This was a cool place to see a concert! The DJ was on fire! Was so good! Only things that were bad was the area and the parking , so be prepared! Also the cost of a 12 oz beer was $17 ! Crazy ! But over all it was pretty good !

This place has cleaned up a lot. It no longer smells like pee. They now have grass and parking I felt safe. This area is beautiful at night with all the buildings lit up.

Horrible conditions. Tons of asphalt blasting the heat and echoing sound pollution all day. It's in central LA so it should be much better than it is but instead it's surrounded by heavy ground and air traffic. Bathrooms down stairs but the security has often been hostile to allowing park goers to use the bathroom if they didn't park their car at the park which is odd because DTLA is meant to be a walkable city. The park area can be much better than it is. Truly one of the worst parks in LA TBH.

This review is for the playground at Pershing Square: The playground at Pershing square is a fun one for adults if you have kids. Age appropriate for 5-12, but my 2 year old had a great time here. Definitely a playground for kids who like to climb! I love the city views from this playground, you feel like you’re in the heart of the city. The playground has soft matting on the floor which is perfect to have below the high spider web-like play structure. Nice colorful benches to sit on, and large plastic boulder rocks.

Ice skating during Dec. Staff were friendly and helpful. It’s small so don’t expect a regular size rink. But oh so beautiful looking up at the buildings. Underground parking was $9 flat rate for evening. Places to eat within walking distance. I went on a weeknight. I have no idea how crowded it gets on weekends. You have to buy your tickets in advance and the time slots do sell out. I enjoyed it and I felt it was worth it just for the experience.

Not many trees or shades in the hot day. This Square is perfectly located in the center of the fun and historical, safe area of the downtown LA. Parking is right under the square, so it is convenient to come and go. Plus, there are many bus stops and train stations around here, so you don't need to walk long. The square has a lot of status, many sitting areas, and kids play ground, so you can bring your families here. However, this big square or park, has no running water for people to wash their hands. There are no public restrooms, so you will not be able to stay long. Plus, there are very few trees, so it is pretty hot in the summer time, or just in a hot day. There are a lot of tall and beautiful buildings around this Square, so you will be able to enjoy the gorgeous view in the background.
