"They won’t cook them for you, but these birds almost cook themselves: Branigan family ranch-raised turkeys are self-basting, says the Dogpatch butcher shop that sells them. Because the birds are raised longer, they develop a layer of fat under the skin that helps keep them juicy. The 12- to 25-pounders are $6 per pound, and you can get them pre-butterflied (a “brick turkey”) or as a deboned Turkey Roti filled with house stuffing. Order ahead by Sunday, November 18." - Caleb Pershan, Eve Batey

Google
Favorite butcher in SF! Came here the first time after searching a ton of other places for a specific beef cut, but have been coming back given both the selection and quality. Seriously amazing beef quality and selection... First place I've seen veal sweetbreads actually for sale. The online ordering could be a bit better, but it is fine. Prices given are way lower than actual. Generally a bit pricy overall, but it is all top quality, like a dry aged prime steak is going to cost a bit. Parking can be tricky, as with the dog patch overall. I've had to circle a few times to find a space.

Google
Came in to get a nice steak and ended up with some New York cuts, a whole marinated lemon chicken, and bacon. The lady there was extremely helpful and made recommendations based on questions on the types of cuts I was looking for. From the moment I walked in I felt taken care of and welcomed. After selecting the New York strip, pieces were cut off in the thickness I choose and the meat was trimmed right away so it was ready to go. After cooking everything, I can say the quality absolutely did not disappoint. I will absolutely be coming back and would highly recommend this butcher!

Google
High quality butcher that sells pastured meat products. I wish that they sold less meat that is marinated. Also wish that all their meat wasn't wrapped in lots of plastic, that's a big downside because the plastic can't be recycled and microplastics are also a concern. Parking is challenging during weekdays so go there on the weekend.

Google
We drive all the way from SJ to get these delicious meats from Olivier's butchery. Yes, pricey. But..these are the best in the Bay. The quality of steaks are unmatched. It's as good or better than what the Bay area steakhouse serve. Please go out and support these local businesses. Especially like Olivier butchery that has grass fed and dry aged steaks, something you can't everywhere. And the staff always friendly!

Bob Journey

Google
Dry aged beef is excellent! If you ask for a steak cut here, the excess fat will be cut cleanly. The variety of seasonings is also abundant and professional.

Google
Been wanting to stop past for a while and today I made it happen. Picked up some chicken bones and a few hamburger patties…super great customers service (Patrick helped me) and an amazing selection of meats/staples. Honestly, it felt like heaven!!

Google
Amazing. French meats, reminds me of home. Best butcher I’ve encountered in the states honestly. I live in Florida now and I visit San Francisco so I can travel back with a cooler of meat.

Google
First time here and I loved it! Very friendly staff and very helpful! I needed some shaved ribeye for my super-bowl Philly cheesesteaks. Very pricey but so worth it! The meat was one of the best! The cheesesteaks turned out amazing! Thanks for helping this Philly transplant get a taste of home on Super Bowl Sunday! GO BIRDS!

Yelp
This is a butcher shop that respects the craft and they're incredible at it. Love their prime aged steaks - can get 21 day, 45 day and sometimes 69 day aged. They have beef bacon which tastes better than regular bacon. The store is super clean, well labeled and the staff knows what they're taking about. Have had aged beef from other top SF butchers and unfortunately it's not good. They are the best in SF, additional things I've love to see: *more 69 day aged steaks - so tasty *aged filet mignon, have had it before and it's great *if they had a small selection of A5 Wagyu (believe they used to), this would be my one stop shop

Pedro W.

Yelp
A truly remarkable place... dare I say BEST butcher within SF city limits!!! Lovely staff, eager to help, very clean space, amazing product with many grab and go, pre-marinated options. Complementary products like mustard, spices and pasta were plentiful! The only drawback for me was how the music interacted with the mostly solid concrete and metal surfaces. (I originally rated a 4 star because if this... but.. realized the product overpowers this nuisance) Not much to say other than "Wow! Y'all are doing it RIGHT!" ... see pics, they speak for themselves!

Melissa C.

Yelp
Authentic grass feed ..beef Eggs are solid Fabulous, knowledgeable and thoughtful crew . Winner winner chicken dinner

Yelp
As I make my way to a bbq with some friends I took the obligation of picking up some meat to grill and was thinking about all the seasonings and ingredients I needed. It finally dawned on me that I have no idea what I was doing and remembered a buddy of mine talking about Olivier's. So, I walked into the shop and was amazed! Beautiful set up and awesome staff. I'm a sucker for the industrial look: steel beams, concrete walls and clean lines. On to the service: I was pleasantly greeted and asked if I needed help with anything and they directed me to the pre-seasoned section or had the option to chat with the SME (subject matter expert) on what types of cut to grill. I walked over to the fridges and was like whhhhhhut???? From duck to chicken to pork they had it all! Every cut you can image. Cheddar Jalapeño sausages - I could slowly feel my life energy rise from the spice of the jalapeño and the cheddar blanketed the love ensuring every last drop of energy was replenished. That's one dang good sausage. Probably the best I've ever had. Definitely trying this again, but next time I think I'd put it in a roll with hella sauerkraut. Pork Loin - to die for. This definitely beats your big box and even your local "trader" alternative option. The meat was fresh, marinated just ever so slightly. This was definitely a treat and you can taste the quality of the meat at a level of bar none. All in all (Borat's voice): "That's a very nice!" I'll be back, this business is the 1, 2 and 3.

Trisha T.

Yelp
Amazing selection of fresh, quality meats! My boyfriend and I went to 3 butcher shops around the city today and this was our favorite one. I love how some of the meats are no pre-cut so you can choose how thick you like your steaks to be cut. This also (I think) ensures more meat freshness. They also have a variety of pre-seasoned meats that are ready to be cooked!

Sam E.

Yelp
The best service, the employees at Olivier's bring back the neighborhood feel of going to a butcher shop. They are always working hard everyone is doing something but no one is too busy to provide you with excellent help. Not to mention the meat selection is always top tier!!!

Yakov I.

Yelp
So far I've had the porchetta, marinaded pork loin, dry aged ribeye and sausages. All have been exceptional. Probably top 5 butcher in the bay area

Jose B.

Yelp
While the price points may be a bit on the expensive side, I can say that every cut of meat I have ever gotten has never disappointed when it comes to quality and flavor. The staff is super helpful and courteous. If you want high quality meats and poultry, this is your place.

Jeanette F.

Yelp
Absolutely stellar experience! I am doing two different types of pork roast for a big Christmas dinner, one Italian Porchetta (Jamie Oliver recipe), and a Danish Flæskesteg. Both cuts are a bit unusual. I went to one old and well known butcher shop in San Francisco, and had it mansplained to me in a rather arrogant way that those cuts were wrong, even though I brought the book with me to show photos. I went home and googled other butcher shops and found Olivier's. I emailed them and got a reply back within less than 5 minutes, telling me that of course they can help, and told me how to enter the special instructions on the order form. Two days before I go to pick up the meat they call me and asks if I want one of them scored Danish style! Heck yeah! As I went to pick up the meat today (first time visiting the store), I was blown away by how service minded ALL of them were. The guy behind the counter butterflied the porchetta in front of me just the way the recipe calls for (that the other store said was impossible...), and the Danish cut was perfectly scored for the crackling. Can't wait to get cooking! I came only to pick up these items, but they have SO much more! Everything looked super clean and professional, and I look forward to coming back. I'm telling all my Danish friends about it!

Olivia V.

Yelp
We love Olivier's and so does everyone else since there's always a line around the holidays. They have a great selection of every kind of meat you could want, and the employees are beyond friendly and knowledgeable. We especially love the aged ribeyes, the different kinds of sausage, and the hamburger patties. You can really taste the difference in quality between them and even Whole Foods. I can't wait to try their other offerings. Highly recommend!

Phong N.

Yelp
Amazing butcher. I make the drive up from San Jose for holiday meats: turkey and prime rib roast. If I lived closer I'm sure that I would go often. The quality of the meat is outstanding. It's a joy just staring into the fridges and the counter.

Tony W.

Yelp
Terrific butcher Super high quality dry aged beef Top restaurants around SF also buy from Olivier's So so glad that we can finally feast on premium quality meats Have tried the thick cut pork chops, 21 day dry aged entrecote (ribeye), and will definitely go back to buy some lamb in the future.

Bleep S.

Yelp
45 day dry aged prime tomahawk, cooked between rare and medium rare. Sublime! We probably won't be going to a restaurant for a steak in the immediate future. No need!

Kevin W.

Yelp
I am not sure it's possible to get better proteins anywhere in or near San Francisco, than are offered at Oliviers! That's not an exaggeration; that's a statement of fact based on my extensive search to find the best butcher shop. The shop is located in a somewhat out of the way location and appears rather modest, somewhat industrial from the exterior. But once you step-in there's a clear sense thoughtful design to the space and it just flows from there. There are glass fronted refrigerated and freezer units that provide easy access to a wide range of the most desirable proteins. There's also a peeking view into the back room butchery area that lets you know this is a serious place for people who want the best quality. The staff are all incredibly kind and helpful and are always willing to guide you with your selections. Once you make your selection from the wide offering of products, they carefully cut to order based on your request. This is old-World butchery at its finest. Oliviers is the best secret for carnivores in SF; but, please don't tell anyone!

Kara Z.

Yelp
I rarely leave reviews but I really wanted to recommend Olivier's Butchery. Their meat is incredible. Their aged steaks are the best I've ever eaten, better than any restaurant I've been to. their carpaccio is delicious with some ponzu sauce. The place is organized really well to make the experience easy like a grocery store, and the staff is all super helpful and kind. They always recommend really good meat and not just the most expensive items - they recommend what looks good that day and what's a good value. One time they didn't have something I was looking for and they were happy to cut some for me in the back. I'll keep going back here, grocery store meats don't compare at all. I highly highly recommend this place!!

Thien H.

Yelp
Fun place to splurge on raw meat and seasonings in the Dogpatch. The cases are clean and easy to browse. If you buy meat from places like Whole Foods regularly, then you should check this place out. Honestly, I didn't notice a huge taste difference from this meat vs. Safeway and such. It's cool to support a local business though. I really like that they have individual portions of meat that are pre-marinated and vacuum sealed. If I had a sous vide thing and a grill, then I would be in heaven. I also found some quality pork bones for broth that are not usually found in American supermarkets. Since Olivier's is a real butchery, they may not have specific cuts of meat ready on hand. You should call ahead to confirm if they've got it. Or order ahead if you have a big request. Or just let them surprise you. The guys were really friendly, helpful, not pushy which I appreciated, and were available when I had some questions. Parking is so random in that area. Sometimes awesome, sometimes not. Parking on a weekday that particular afternoon was such a pain unfortunately. I eventually found parking after circling the nearby blocks 5x.

Victor P.

Yelp
This butcher shop is great. Friendly service and great selection of meat. They are knowledgeable about different ways to cook your selection so don't be afraid to ask!

Lori A.

Yelp
Great quality meat and they have pasture raised whole chicken at a good price. Staff was helpful and welcoming. They clearly take pride in their work.

remy m.

Yelp
Delicious tomahawk. The service is awesome. They trim the fat then weigh the meat. The place is very clean and the presentation of the cuts of meat is organized with good lighting.

Kat M.

Yelp
Great meats, great butchers who take pride in their profession, friendly and knowledgeable! Best in SF

Jules B.

Yelp
This is hands down the best butcher I've ever been to. Their cuts are immaculate and the quality is the best around. Literally once you eat their meat, nothing else compares. I shopped here weekly and bought all my meat from them from the time they opened until last year when I moved out of state. I miss shopping here so much! And I especially miss my weekly chat with kindest, most loyal & professional guy ever, Esteban. I'm happy for the owners, who are also very kind people, to have him. It felt great to support such an incredible local business! Overall top notch product & service! They can't be beat and I would give them 10 stars if that were an option!

Tay H.

Yelp
Maybe they're too busy nowadays? Called 12/20 to buy a duck and they said it was too close to Christmas to do so, which is so weird - they HAD duck but wouldn't let me buy it by phone, and told me to come in person. Two days later, waited in line for an hour and finally got to the front where we were told they were then sold out. Really ruined my holiday cooking plans and massively wasted my time for no reason. I can't fathom why I couldn't just buy the duck on 12/20 when I was speaking to them. Avedano's people are much friendlier, at least.

Alessandra T.

Yelp
Best meats selection! I love how they cut it for you and then wrap it! My thanksgiving Prime rib was amazing. The truffle salt was amazing

Annie Z.

Yelp
Olivier's is our favorite butchery in the city!! Our go to is the aged ribeye, but we've tried their skirt steak and chicken bones for broth as everything we've gotten have surpassed our expectations. Prices are higher than Whole Foods but you can taste the quality. I no longer look forward to dining at steakhouses with olivier's cuts coming out tastier at home :)

David J.

Yelp
Awesome high quality meats. So good and I can't wait to go back and try more different cuts of meats.

Kevin C.

Yelp
High quality meat for a reasonable price! The service is always fantastic, and selections are pretty wide. The highlights here are anything beef related. For example, their 60-70 day aged ribeyes have an amazing texture and flavor to it. The burgers, ribeyes, cote, bacon, bone marrow, sausages have always been solid as well. I don't particularly love their pre seasoned meat, so it might be something you can shy away. I have tried other things like lamb and had good experiences, but I think the real highlight at this shop is american beef.

Will F.

Yelp
Wow, the quality is some of the best I've had. Got the Australian wagyu ribeye, which had great marbling. Enough where it was tender, but not too much where we couldn't finish the whole steak. Highly recommend!

Kobsupang R.

Yelp
A year later, still LOVE this place! The staff is knowledgeable and can recommend you the kind of meat you are looking for. One of our favorites here is Chipotle Chicken (whole) - really well marinaded and super delicious even without any sauce. Show up early so you get to pick. Good stuff is gone quickly!

Debra V.

Yelp
Service and Quality is the best in SF. got a beef tenderloin that was the best I've ever cooked. Can be pricey, but you definitely get what you pay for. Staff are wonderful. There is a small area to park your well behaved dog.

Fiffy S.

Yelp
Kids purchased the monthly box, August, for our anniversary. Always wanted to try one but thought the quantity would be too much for two people. WRONG. If you have a brain and a food sealer you've got food for month more or less. Unbelievable quality. No where on the peninsula is there quality like this. Have purchased the turkey and a roti or two and the prep and cooking are seamless . Nothing has been frozen so the flavor is off the charts. Highly recommend.

Cath C.

Yelp
one of the best butchers in San Francisco. it's worth the drive across town for incredible quality and knowledgeable staff.

Wesley R.

Yelp
Great fillet Great rib eye Great service Great place Convenient Really excellent customer service I can't say enough about them I want to come back every single day but I can't because I live in Sausalito but if I could I would come back more often

Zhining Q.

Yelp
Variety choices, fair price. Things I like: lamb fat, marinated chicken, tartar beef, bacon Highly recommend!

Jason F.

Yelp
Olivier's Butchery is one of my favorite things in the Dogpatch. It's an amazing neighborhood traditional french butchery. I've been coming here basically once a week during COVID. My go to's are the whole chicken, at $5 a pound its really high value IMO for pasture raised birds, the ground beef ($9, a bit pricy), but grass fed and really good quality, and the tasty sausages, I always get the toulouse sausage! I've had the 21 day dry aged rib eye here and felt like it was just ok, I wish there was a bit more marbling. Maybe their other cuts like the porterhouse or the even more aged 60 or 120 day cuts are tastier. The service is great, if you're looking for something specific make sure to ask one of the staff because they're willing to go out on a limb and help you out!

Jeremy G.

Yelp
I actually love this place now!!! I'm glad we gave them another chance. Friendly and welcoming staff. Great quality meat. Terrific!

Kevin S.

Yelp
I began to come here after Golden Gate closed in the ferry building. While the selection is a little smaller, the quality is phenomenal and the service is A+. I explained what I needed (some specific cuts, and some prep work done) and they made sure I got exactly what I wanted. I meant to leave a review after the holidays and now it's February, but I did all my Thanksgiving and Christmas shopping here. Quality + Service!

Benjamin G.

Yelp
Incredible meat and even better service from I believe it was Lani? She was most helpful and very knowledgeable and had warmth about her that is missing in most people today, especially in the food service industry. Thank you for making my last day in sf a memorable one. The meat was delicious. I was there 1/27/23 around 1

David B.

Yelp
Excellent meat and highest quality butcher, but not worth the wait, especially on a holiday. We pre-ordered our meat and still ended up waiting in line over an hour when we arrived. No separate cashier for preorders. Lots of customers in line all complaining. This business has obviously not yet figured out what customer service means.

FoodLover F.

Yelp
Easy to bike to out in the dogpatch. The people working here are very nice and helpful We got a 2 lb cut of rib eye. While the meat was tasty it was a bit tough. We cooked it to medium rare perfection Seems expensive. But like to support local small business

Jack S.

Yelp
Everything about Olivier's is great. We are going tonight to get a brick chicken. Love them

Agnes R.

Yelp
I'm not the best cook and I'm working on that, so this was my first time at a butchery! It was a little intimidating because of all the cuts of meat but the people were nice there and I managed to get myself a gorgeous piece of the Japanese A5 wagyu! About $40 for 8 oz, which I feel is reasonably priced considering how deliciously it came out, despite the fact I accidentally cooked it to be well done! Anyway, whenever I feel fancy with my meats, I'll be coming here!

Ryan J.

Yelp
Went to Oliviers for the first time today. Had a great experience. Got a chicken roti for new years, some dry aged new yorks, some picanha and a bunch of marinated chicken. Great service too. Ill be back!

Ghazal P.

Yelp
Why didn't I find out about this place sooner? From the variety of meat, knowledge, service and quality this places is pure perfection. I will for sure be a regular for my weekly meat purchase. I only wish if they were open Mondays and Tuesdays but the guys need a break! -They get their beef orders on Wednesdays and lamb on Fridays. -Parking is very easy and convenient. -Also, if you have a special request ( like the meat or chicken to be marinated in a certain way) they will happily take care of it for you. They will charge your credit card in advance.

Ellvy T.

Yelp
9 years since my last review and upgraded to 5 star. We used to live nearby and sad that since we moved there's nothing in comparison. ThiS places is the cleanest butcher I've seen and prices are reasonable. Bring a cooler with you if you're in town!

Ara C.

Yelp
Amazing quality!!! My favorite is the porterhouse cut or any Australian Wagyu if they have it in stock. You can just tell everything is super fresh and high quality. Also, the customer service is amazing too! I will occasionally come in with my mom to get a steak, and the employee Esteban always gives us the best experience. He makes sure we get the exact type of steak or cut of meat for whatever we make. Overall, great meat quality and service!

David F.

Yelp
this place is awesome. i have been coming here for years and the quality is top notch! on top of the amazingly friendly people that work here, you cant ask for anything more. thanks for making me a happy joo!

Moniek D.

Yelp
We moved into the neighbourhood a couple of months ago and I am so happy to have found this butchery. The quality is amazing, I love that they vacuum seal the meat with olive oil, salt, pepper and fresh thyme. This way it is ready to put into our sous vide cooker. Also, I love the taste of their bacon and ham. It seems closer to the kind I used to buy living in Europe but I am no expert and could be wrong about that. Friendly and helpful staff. We don't buy any meat in the supermarket anymore, this is much better (and not much more expensive compared to WF)

Shana W.

Yelp
Great quality meat!! One of the few true butcheries left. It's a little pricey but you pay for quality! Wide range of meat and Service is phenomenal

Rex R.

Yelp
Been meaning to go to Olivier's since our days in dogpatch.. finally made it all the way from haight-ashbury .. We are absolutely particular about the source of our ingredients ... We got one of the best rack of lamb in this city - grilled it medium rare - melted in the mouth The pork shoulder and bones (for a broth) were outstanding as well.

Jason M.

Yelp
Got my Christmas prime rib from Olivier's this year and I could not have been happier. I learned my lesson the year before when my roast was 100% grass-fed, which was too lean. Olivier's cows are grass-fed and grain-finished giving them perfect marbling. I asked for the ribs from the chuck end which they delivered - other butchers haven't in the past. Thanks, Olivier's - I'll never look elsewhere from prime rib again.
