"Nick’s Crispy Tacos in Russian Hill has mirrored walls, red everything, crystal chandeliers, plush drapes, and a singular disco ball, and feels like a club. So, yes, it's the perfect spot for a taco. And not a bad taco at that. There’s also excellent guacamole, cheap beers, solid quesadillas, and the miracle of engineering that is the corn on a stick. But, ultimately, all that good stuff is burdened slightly by a weak burrito game. So go ahead and fill up on decent tacos and guacamole, they will definitely hit the spot. If you want to eat the same food nearby, but in a classier atmosphere, consider heading to Tacko in the Marina—they swap the red upholstery of Nick’s for nautical flags and sailboat paintings. Food Rundown Chips & Guacamole The chips are legit homemade, not out of a bag. The guacamole is out-of-control good, served half guac, half fresh, chunky pico to mix together. I would eat this all day. Black Bean & Grilled Corn Taco Salad Do not attempt to be healthy at Nick’s. You will fail. And end up with a sad salad of corn, beans, romaine and pico, resting under a thick armor of tortilla strips. The dressing is nice and tangy, but you might as well just get another order of the chips & guacamole. Tacos Nick’s goes the extra mile and gives you two tortillas per taco to prevent sog, a nice touch, but this tends to accentuate the blandness of the flavors. Pescado and camarones tacos are worthwhile - well-cooked, seasoned and for the pescado, perfectly fried. The grilled fish is too dry, and pollo asado lacks zing - with the actual chicken hiding in an unruly mess of tasteless cabbage slaw. Getting tacos “Nick’s Way,” which includes cheese and guac, definitely improves the experience, mostly because you’re eating more delicious guacamole. Burritos I wish these were better. The carnitas burrito doesn’t taste bad, but it also doesn’t taste like anything. The texture is like eating a wrap filled with baby food - something I never intended to do after my 2nd birthday. The fish and shrimp burritos are kicked up with onions and cilantro, but stick with tacos when you’re at Nick’s and you’ll go home a happy camper." - Taylor Abrams

"SFGATE dug into the long, complicated, and litigious beef between two San Francisco taco spots: Nick’s Crispy Tacos, which closed its location on Polk and announced plans to move into a bar in Cow Hollow." - Lauren Saria

"San Franciscans said goodbye to Nick’s Crispy Tacos after more than 20 years of fried fish and guac at the end of December 2022. But, the business will make a comeback, this time landing in Marina at new venue Rockwell bar and lounge." - Paolo Bicchieri

"Nick's Crispy Tacos is only open during the day, since, you know, it operates out of a Russian Hill night club (you enter through a side door of the club). They have the best tacos—crispy or regular—along with perfect guacamole, elote (Mexican corn on the cob), and delicious melon juice. The plush red booths and sprawling dance floor make for an interesting set-up for a taco place but it's a fun place to bring out-of-towners. They also do "Taco Tuesdays" when you can get two tacos for $6 and two Mexican beers for $7."

Damn good (and big) authentic tacos! I tried the fried fish and the steak both “Nick’s way” for the extra crunch of the hard and soft shell, plus guacamole…no skimping here, these tacos were stuffed! I was full with only 2! We also got the corn (Elote) for a starter. It was equally sweet corn and spicy toppings. We sat outside on their street patio nicely enclosed. And the server was so friendly, energetic and funny. Really enjoyed ourselves here. Great food, great spot, great people. Thank you!

Amazing food and extremely friendly and helpful staff! Had 2 tacos, jalapeño poppers (must have!) and tortilla soup - all things were awesome. Worth noting that the drinks have to be ordered at the bar and they only accept card. Restaurant accepts both cash and cards. Really recommend!

2023 Review: New location at Fillmore & Greenwich. So happy to see these guys relocate. Same amazing taste and staff! 2021 Review: Love their salads. Fish tacos will no disappoint. The habanero salsa is fire! Super good and reasonable prices.

Fried fish taco was good. Freshly made. Soft inside and crispy outside. Get with Nick’s way. Bit expensive for paying almost $5 for one taco. And they take cash only. The guy who took our order was nice and friendly.

My go to spot for Taco Tuesday’s no matter who I’m with or what we doing! Nice music and some of the best fish tacos I’ve had! 🤷🏾 Always eating in 💯drinks included 🥳

Food is pretty good, not amazing. Mixed drinks and interior make it worth a visit. If you get the tacos no need to try 'Nick's way', cost extra and doesn't add anything.

Great little find for us having just arrived in SF on hols. Great friendly service from both wait & bar staff, $4 Margaritas night were delicious, and so were the chips & Salas and Camarones Tacos 🌮 DJ playing some cool tunes setting a funky high vibe atmosphere. The place filled up quickly.

We went for lunch and surprisingly at 12:15 the three street tacos were all lukewarm, which was the first indication the meat was not just freshly cooked. It was also tough and chewy, another indication it was reheated. Having spent weeks eating tacos all over Mexico City and much of my adult life eating tacos all over California I'd say either we arrived at the wrong time or something just wasn't right. But given the wide variety of tacos available all over SF it's unlikely I'd return here except if I wanted to soak up the cool decor and environment. It's a great venue, and hopefully the other dishes are not subpar.
