Museo del Palacio is the new name for this stately building located in the Zocalo. This building was once the State Government Palace or called Palacio De Gobierno. During the Day of the Dead festivities, every year there is an altar and a giant sand tapestry set up here in this building. There is usually a contest for the best altar and, therefore, many smaller Day of the Dead altars are set up around the main floor of this former palace during the competition. So, a visit here is a must during Day of the Dead celebrations in Oaxaca. Also, many temporary art exhibits are held here throughout the year. Have fun!
