"Admire Belgium's Best Artists at Mu.Zee Several people had recommended Oostende’s art museum, Mu.ZEE, to us, over the years. Still, I expected a small gallery we could visit in an hour or so. How wrong I was. We had over two hours to explore the collections, before our lunch reservation, and we barely scratched the surface. The museum is deceptively large, with corridors snaking off in all directions. The permanent collection focuses on Belgian art from 1850 to the present. Highlights include works by James Ensor, Léon Spilliaert and Constant Permeke. Mu.Zee also host large temporary exhibitions of both international and Belgian artists. Museum dedicated to Belgian art well worth the visit, definitely as a Belgian. There was a wonderful exhibition on Anna Boch while I was there. In a few months there will be a James Ensor exhibition I am sure will be a must-visit!

A very calm and enjoyable experience that allows for a relaxed viewing of mostly Belgian modern and contemporary art, with a large collection of Léon Spilliaert and James Ensor works. It is a short walk - through the Leopoldpark - from the city’s center.

Very nice exhibition and nice story, yet the audio guide can’t be made more quiet, also the system with how you play the next thing is very weird and annoying

Lovely James Ensor collection. Also enjoyed the contemporary and modernism rooms. Tickets were 15€ which include an extensive audio guide

This building used to be the shop and headquarters of a cooperative organisation of Ostend. It now houses a museum for contemporary art and a collection of modernistic paintings. Very spacious building is an excellent alternative when weather suggest indoor activities. Audioguides available also for kids.

It's one of these museums where the previous exhibition has already finished, and you only see its catalogues in the museum shop, and the next exhibition is not there yet. I'm not sure I understood the logic of the permanent exhibition (spanning years from late 19th cent to mid-20th). A couple of paintings and applied art are quite good. The small exhibition on Raoul De Kayser is definitely worth a detour. A special thanks goes to the museum staff, who are extra nice and helpful.

Actually small museum despite its building size. A bit pricey for a what you get: small hall with local sea paintings and several experimental art works. If you have a lazy walking on Oostende promenade and soul ask for art and has extra 12 euros per person — take a shot. Otherwise pass free.

Good museum with some nice collections spread out over multiple spatious levels. Well organized and easy to reach. Fully equipped as you can expect from a museum this size (lockers, audio guides, reservation system etc). and with a bistro and shop. Extra points for the very helpfull staff!
