You may wonder why a wine bar included on our best new openings list is called Milquetoast (another word for feeble, insipid, or bland). Despite its name, owners George Curtis and James Horsfall’s new opening is anything but weak. Milquetoast is stuffed inside a former CBD car garage down a laneway off Elizabeth Street, past the bright neon lights of late-night bourbon bar Alice. It’s got an industrial fit-out offset by homey mismatched vintage furniture, warm wooden surfaces and wine bottles lining the walls. An open kitchen and bar on one side of the space lets punters in on the action. The British-leaning menu is inspired by the owners’ shared English heritage, with opening highlights including devilled eggs, mushrooms on toast and Cumberland sausages with puy lentils and gremolata.

Incredible food and atmosphere. Dining here was an absolute pleasure and such a treat after a long Saturday. Highly recommend the crumpets, Yorkshire puddings, mussels and lamb - hard to narrow it down !! Excellent wine and cocktail menu. I wasn’t sure what I fancied from the cocktail menu but the experienced team narrowed it down for me and helped pick the cocktail best suited to me. 5 stars from me !!! This is restaurant is must visit 👏🏼

Tucked away at the end of an alleyway, Milquetoast offers an excellent vibe, alongside a great drink selection. Dimly lit and tasteful tunes to accompany, we had a few cocktails on a Saturday evening alongside some food. While being good, there is a limited selection of food. I’d recommend a few dishes to have as an accompaniment with drinks, as opposed to having a full meal. All the cocktails were quite good, but everyone’s favourite was the original snowflake. Sweet, refreshing and Yakult-milky. For good, I’d recommend the Milquetoast pudding to try as a well crafted, not overly sweet dessert that’s quite pleasant. Good times overall.

STOP what you’re doing and just go to this place now! Tucked down a little lane off Elizabeth street is this British inspired gem! The food was so inspired that we left sooo full because we couldn’t stop eating! The fish crumpets were to die for!

Loved Milquetoast. Highlights were the classic martini and the Casper. Omg the mouth feel. Oysters were delicious. Vibe was great. Service friendly. Lovely little bar for after work drinks. Will be back!

Such a beautiful space with a great wine list, exciting cocktail and delicious food! Kitchen is open late which is so needed in the city. This will become a regular and I will work my way through the entire list.

Native flowers martini couldn’t fault! Immaculate snack bites and bigger plates. Wine selection is just too smooth to keep you savouring up.

I like milquetoast. I've been here twice. They have a nice winelist and good food. The service, vibe, and wine are good.

Sometimes you find yourself a stranger in a big city. The choices in front of you are daunting. We did the reviews and ate our way around Brisbane but nothing compares to these guys! The only place we did twice. The delight of working through the food menu and wine at a steady pace. 10/10 honestly superb.
