Meritin Hotel Kuching

We experienced the most torturous night staying in Meritin Hotel. The air-conditioning was not working, the room was very stuffy even after they restarted twice. The window cannot close properly and the Redneck Bar's loud music bothered us the whole night and the hotel staff told us it will only last till 2am! The staff simply said no other rooms were available as they're fully booked and brought in a portable air-conditioning with a big hot air pipe and messy long wire. We couldn't even walk properly for fear of tripping over the pipe and wire. The hot air had to be piped in to the toilet and it was hot like sauna when we used the toilet. We can't close the bathroom door because of the hot air pipe, hot air either pipes into the bathroom or into the hotel room itself. Can you imagine not being able to close the toilet door when room sharing with another or subject the other person to hot air stuffiness in the room while the toilet is occupied?? We checked out at 6am because it was a hellish experience staying there. They offered complimentary 1 night stay ONLY AFTER we left but who would dare to go back when they can put you through hell by simply saying no rooms are available and you are stuck as it's too late to source for another hotel elsewhere. We need to be well taken care while we are at the hotel and not after we leave, no complimentary offers can make up for the torture Meritin put us through. Refer to photos.

This hotel had some problems for us. First, the bathroom shower did not work properly. The rain shower worked but not the hand-held shower. The knob for the lock on the door kept falling off and we could not lock the bathroom door. Maid service is only provided once; if you need maid service more than once, you must pay for it. We needed extra toilet paper and water, but I do not believe we were charged when we asked for extra, although we did not request maid service. The one and only elevator was being serviced when we returned to or room one afternoon and we had to climb 5 flights of stairs to get to our room. We asked for a quiet room but were given a room overlooking the main road which had a bar, Borneo Rednecks, across the street and they had a live band. Earplugs were provided! The breakfast, although there was a good choice of dishes, was always cold when we got to our table to eat, although getting through the buffet line did not take a long time. On the plus side, the staff was always kind and wonderful to us. I cannot fault the staff at this hotel at all!

Room : good size, equipped with the needs & it’s clean and in working order. Location : near lots of eateries 24/7 & it’s a walk in memory lane. A supermarket right across the hotel is really handy. Serivice : Mile (front desk manager) & Rose 🌹 made the stay even more welcoming. Thank you! Parking : parking at the front gets tricky in the morning & afternoon.

Pleasant stay. Large room with large bed. Great location near 4 different bars with live bands (Borneo Redneck, Bistro 21, Culture City and The Cottage). Many choices of food along the same road (Padungan). Only downside is if you get a room facing the road you will hear music from Borneo Redneck every night from 10pm till past one a.m. I used earplugs so it was all right for me.

Fabulous location, within walking distance to amenities and innumerable food choices. Easily walkable to the walkway along the river. Traffic around the hotel is manageable, Housekeeping is excellent. We didn't try the onsite restaurant. Cons: noise was a seriously major issue. Every sound from the corridor and from adjoining rooms was clearly audible. Closing of doors, cupboards and footsteps were an annoyance. Carpeting might help, but that's up to management. Our room wasn't facing the main road, yet music from the bar could be heard till past 2.00 a.m. Having drunken elephants apparently as neighbors on the same floor didn't help. Earplugs are mandatory when staying here. The bathroom was OK. Fittings were decent (Toto) but water pressure and temperature control were subpar. The room was well-sized, lighting was good. In general, certainly acceptable for the price, and very good for a 3-star hotel. I might come again just because of the location. Carpeting and other modes of acoustic management are much needed and should be looked into by the hotel owners.

Highly recommend, room slightly small but OK for 2/Couple. Very clean, strong hot shower, Wifi Good too. Best is Walking distance to all Kuching Sights within 1.5Km. Best location to all the food places around, to TopSpot Seafood (ABC), Little Hainan, Sarawak Laksa, HongKong Noodle next door n Etc., huge choices around hotel. Hotel us just corner of Kuching Cat Statues.

My stay at Merritin deserved a review. The highlight was the location, the convenience of the shops and eating places, banks and Kuching waterfront. I have to mention the staff, they do love their jobs and always so cheerful and polite. Special mention to the manager (I think, Akmal?). He ensures that the guests and the running of his team are on top of things. Even the CEO (O Ting) who happens to be there was very approachable and she did engaged with her guests. I will definitely recommend this awesome place though there are teething issues of noise from across the road (hence ear plugs were given) specifically on weekends. The ear plugs might worked.

Good place to stay, centrally located at many places of interest especially Riverside. All within walking distance. Room is clean generally, but seems dated and need of upgrade. Toiletries given are sufficient. Lobby strangely but in a good way turns out to be a good place to hangout while waiting for family members. Breakfast is ok, nothing to shout about. It's good that there is staff preparing egg upon request. Parking is always available at the back of hotel, but try not to walk this path at night as you will meet strange characters. Other Positives: 1. Staff are friendly and helpful. 2. One of the more affordable hotel that offers bedroom with one queen and one single bed. 3. Clean room, always having 3 sets of towels daily and other toiletries. Several areas that could make my stay better: 1. Toilet paper is too thin. Suggest to get a thicker one. 2. Water pressure at shower can be a little tricky to handle between hot and cold. Not sure if there is any way to fix this. 3. Have more variety of tv channels...I would suggest Live broadcast. 4. Have a water dispenser (hot, room and cold temp) at lobby if not at each level. 5. Add more variety during breakfast... suggest to have more fruits cereal type and pan cakes. Invest in an Expresso machine that would grind fresh coffee would be major plus. 6. Make parking coupon available at reception for customer to purchase and explain how it is used correctly. Overall was a good stay. Keep up the good work.
