An upscale, multi-level food hall featuring diverse international eats, lively vibes, and a rooftop beer garden perfect for sampling bites and drinks.
"You probably didn’t have “German beer garden” on your Mexico City bingo card, but this unexpected spot is one you don’t want to miss. Sure, the food menu definitely includes bratwurst, but there are also Mexican beers on tap, and, fairly often, DJs spinning reggaeton and Mexican cumbia. Grab a table outside (there’s a retractable roof for when it rains), order a few pints and some barbeque chicken wings, and catch whatever game’s playing on the big TVs." - guillaume guevara
"A major driver in the city’s burgeoning food scene, Mercadoroma pays homage to Mexico’s beloved open markets, yet explodes the concept by renting stalls to a dizzying array of purveyors of fine food, beer, wine, and spirits, and other stuffs—all under the same roof. The experience combines picking up staples, hard-to-find cheeses, baked goods, and charcuterie with popping down here or there for a quick gourmet taco, torta, burger, or bit of barbecue. The sweet-tooth set does not leave disappointed, and a retro midcentury vibe makes the market’s shared tables particularly pleasant; the top-floor terrace is a perfect retreat on late afternoons for artisanal beers, mezcals, and a full range of cocktail options. (Check out the market's sister spot in Coyoacán.)"
"A fun take on the traditional covered markets, the Mercado Roma is a one-stop-shop for indie gourmet snacks. Here, many of the city's up-and-coming chefs and food brands have set up shop selling everything from fresh juices, to fair-trade coffee, Spanish tapas, classic Mexican snacks, and more. The stand not to miss is Umami which dishes a selection of sushi-style burritos. Always crowded at lunch time, visitors can take a spin, choose their treats, and try and find a spot at the wooden communal tables stationed at the back."
"Neighborhood residents protested Mercado Roma before it was built, saying that gentrification would ruin the area. The three-story market is indeed more upscale than its surroundings, but it's the perfect place for sipping Spanish wines, eating tapas, shopping for expensive cheeses, and nibbling snacks. You'll find satellite puestos from restaurants around town, a coffee counter, vegan tacos, and cured meats. There's also a rooftop beer garden, complete with a foosball table, and a ground-floor patio filled with herb boxes. The market also has a second location in Coyoacán." - Scarlett Lindeman, Lauren Stroh
