"A local market offering high-quality ham, cheese, and one of the best Spanish omelets." - Travel + Leisure Editors

"Despite its recent revamp, this beautifully restored 140-year-old market still retains its old-school, no-fuss neighborhood flavor. You'll find stall after stall of gourmet, fresh ingredients for home cooking plus a smattering of great prepared food stands. So great are some of these, that allegedly, some of the city's best chefs come here in their spare time. Don't miss Casa Dani with its traditional, daily-changing tapas menu."

"One of Madrid's longest-standing markets—it opened in 1882—Mercado de la Paz is a Salamanca icon. It's also a bustling maze where vendors know the names of their customers' kids—"Has Paco finished his Master's yet?" "What ever happened to Elena's deadbeat boyfriend?"—and where the best cuts and finest seafood are reserved for loyal regulars. Be sure to sample a €3 slice of earth-shatteringly good tortilla española from Casa Dani; with its gooey center and overabundance of caramelized onions, there's truly nothing like it." - Benjamin Kemper

The market was not that crowded on a weekday afternoon. The whole place was clearly renovated and was clean just like a supermarket selling fresh produce, seafood, ham and cheese, pastries and other local ingredients. The small restaurants are located at the back of the market. It mainly features Spanish cuisines.

If you want a real taste of local life, don’t miss Mercado de la Paz. This market is a mix of tradition and gourmet charm. It’s clean, friendly, and full of surprises. You can find everything here from fresh fruit at the greengrocer to high quality products at delicatessen stalls. One of my favorite stops was a small stand serving tortilla soft, flavorful, and just the way it should be! I also tried some pintxos, those small bites full of flavor that instantly made me feel like I was in the Basque Country. There’s even a lovely Italian shop where I grabbed some fresh pasta and cheese to take home. And if you love seafood, the seafood shop inside has some of the freshest fish I’ve seen in Madrid. Mercado de la Paz is a great place to stroll, snack, and soak in the atmosphere. Highly recommended for food lovers! 🙂😇

I came here to eat at Casa Dani, this market turns out to be one of the most pleasant experience, good assortment, good restaurants also!

I fell in love, with all the beautiful produce, fish, meat, and especially: the superfresh squid. I think I would come here everyday if I lived in the area

Great place to buy your groceries!! Fresh and good quality and cheaper than other places. I love to come and choose the fruits and vegetables so fresh. Meats, poultry, and fish are excellent quality, too. 150% recommended it.

Google
Stumbled upon this market while looking for a place to have coffee. We didn't buy anything, but there are plenty of choices and the food looks fantastic. Best of all, this doesn't seem to be a touristy place. If you're in the area, it's worth a small detour, maybe you see something you like!

A good market to visit if you happen to be in the area. Casa Dani: Good spot for food. Excellent omelette. They have many shops and the line moves fast.

Yelp
I visited three Mercados while in Madrid. Seems the market/food hall combination is the thing. This one had a more traditional/local flavor to it when compared to Mercado de San Miguel. A bit more open spaces and not as crowded although there were some congested spots (at least when I visited on a Friday around 2) You have a few choices for shopping/eating: grocery store, a couple of choices for ham/cheese/deli, fish monger, butcher, Pasta, pizza, French, dessert, and of course Tapas. They even had a shoe repair stand which looked like it had been there forever. Again. a few choices to pick from for food. It started to get busy in all the spots and somehow I decided to try a small pizza spot-Il Forneo Di Matteo. By the time I got to the counter they had run out of most of the varieties. But not to worry they brought more out pretty quickly. I got a slice of the Anchovy/ Bufala mozzarella. Amazing! Who would have thought I'd have one of the best slices of pizza in Madrid. Such a light crust and the cheese and salty anchovies combined perfectly. Not cheap at 5 euros per slice but so worth it. A lady bought a couple of huge sheets of their crust so gives an indication. Must try! Overall, worth the visit when in the Barrio de Salmanaca area.

Yelp
This is an expensive market in the rich area of Salamanca. Amongst all the designer stores, you can come here if you're really hungry while doing some shopping. They have outdoor cafes as well as fruits and vegetables and more food indoors. Lovely for tasting and having some fun!

Yelp
Compared to Mercado San Miguel this one is way different. This one is more grocery-centric, while the other is only tapas style eateries. A good place to look for ham and cheeses. A few restaruance within the complex and some we're very crowded (e.g. casa Dani). Ultimately a good walk around to see what Spanish markets are like.

Yelp
This is one crazy place. The food (tapa) and were all great. Love the idea of being able to grab as much (samplers) of food and a glass of wine to try. All the booths in the market have people who do speak English so it is a little less stressful when ordering. We spend three days in Madrid and every night we started our evening by stopping by for a few tapa and a few glasses of wine. Cost June 2017 tapa 2-4 euro per wine 3 euro per glass. Just watch our they will take advantage of you when you buy water. Water will be the most expensive thing you buy there. There is a small grocery store right beside the market you can pick up bottle water at a very cheap price.

Yelp
Not worth the trek if you arent shopping to cook dinner. I found a premade sandwich here since I hadn't had lunch, but it wasnt my first choice. Not much to see, if you're just visiting.

Yelp
This was a great small market--the olives and cheeses I sampled then bought were perfect. The neighborhood is fantastic as well. The only thing that could have been better was to have more shops open. Because it was the end of August a number of stalls were closed. The Serrano ham at the first meat deli going into the market was great! Expensive, but worth every penny. This is definitely on my list when I return to Madrid.
