In the heart of DTLA's Arts District, Manuela serves up Southern-inspired dishes amid a stylish, rustic-chic setting filled with art and greenery.
"Manuela might seem like a pretentious museum restaurant you go to once a year when someone boring has a birthday, but fortunately, it's not. This open-air spot inside Hauser & Wirth’s Arts District gallery doesn’t take itself too seriously. The fantastic dining space faces an expansive courtyard that’s intimate, but not stuffy. And the Southern-leaning menu has just enough vegetable dishes to keep everyone happy. Polish off a few bottles of wine with some coworkers and eat as many fluffy cream biscuits as you can muster. Capacity: Semi-private dining available for groups of up to 14. Buyouts are also available for groups of 26 or more." - brant cox, nikko duren
"Although Manuela, a Southern-ish restaurant in the Arts District, is housed in an actual gallery (and adjoining courtyard), the energy here is anything but stuffy. Their outdoor space is charming, looking more like a tiny European town than a converted Downtown warehouse parking lot. It’s so gorgeous, you might even say something like “my heavens” when you enter, even though you’ve literally never said anything like that before." - jess basser sanders, brant cox, kat hong, brett keating
"Art galleries can be intimidating. The good news is, if you’re at Hauser & Wirth, you’re 100 feet away from Manuela—a restaurant that, despite being inside an art gallery, isn’t stuffy. It’s just a cool place to hang out, whether art is part of your agenda or not. Most dishes are Southern and involve lots of vegetables. We like to stick with small plates, like sweet Kusshi oysters, trout tartare, and fluffy cream biscuits served with a small mountain of aged country ham that’ll make you consider selling your car to open a farm." - brant cox, nikko duren, garrett snyder, sylvio martins
"Kris Tominaga is behind the stoves at Manuela, the gorgeous restaurant inside the Hauser & Wirth gallery. Expect Southern classics with coastal California influences on the menu. The chef’s famed biscuits are a must for the table, as are the barbecued oysters with charred poblano butter, breadcrumbs, and Parmesan. On Tuesday through Sunday, Manuela is open for daytime service, making it the perfect pit stop between admiring works of art." - Rebecca Roland, Cathy Chaplin, Eater Staff
"The Arts District’s Manuela is extra pup-friendly spanning 5,000 square feet extending into the Hauser & Wirth gallery’s courtyard. It’s a gorgeous spot to take in a meal and cocktails with a dog or two in tow, and staff are always quick to bring water." - Eater Staff, Mona Holmes
