"COVID-19 Update: Open for takeout and delivery. Located in the Malibu Country Mart, the breezy sea vibe makes this feel like it could be on the shore back East (the owner is, in fact, from New York). The flat and crispy chocolate chip cookies and cranberry muffin are particularly delicious, as is the tuna salad sandwich and fried chicken (when available, which is rare). There are a few tables scattered about, though most take their loot to go. Keep in mind that lines stretch out the door on weekends. (Hint: Don't have your cell phone out while ordering—the staff here tends to get grumpy if a customer is distracted during the process.) COVID-19 Disclaimer: We are working hard to keep our listings as up to date as possible (deliveries, outdoor dining, etc.), but given the evolving nature of local COVID-19 restrictions, we recommend double-checking the information in this guide with any business you plan on visiting. Also, please note that we have not vetted any businesses listed within our guides for their compliance with applicable safety regulations."

"There’s a battle brewing in Malibu, where businesses including restaurants like Malibu Kitchen are fighting local vintage car enthusiasts like Jay Leno, Jerry Seinfeld, and those who follow them. The regular gatherings are negatively impacting businesses by causing congestion, says the Los Angeles Times." - Mona Holmes

"There are a few sandwich shops inside the Malibu Country Mart, but the one you should go to is Malibu Kitchen. It’s owned by a native New Yorker and by simply stepping inside you’re transported to Long Island in the best way - you’ll probably be curtly asked to hurry up or slow down, the chip and beverage options are endless, and the delicious made-to-order sandwiches come out quick. The moist pulled pork on ciabatta is better than many BBQ spots, but even if you go with turkey, a reuben, or an assortment of sides like tuna salad or mac and cheese from the deli case, your refuel lunch will be a guaranteed success." - Brant Cox

"Malibu Kitchen is a deli owned by a New Yorker in the heart of the Country Mart. Step inside, and be transported to Long Island in the best of ways - the owner might curtly ask you to hurry up or slow down, the chip and beverage options are endless, and the made-to-order sandwiches are the best in Malibu - and way better (and are made faster) than the ones from John’s Garden across the way. The pulled pork on ciabatta outshines what we’ve had at most BBQ spots, but even if you go with turkey, a reuben, or an assortment of sides from the deli case, you’ll be set for your day at the beach or quick lunch afterwards. Would like to point out a couple things! Most people note that the staff is very unfriendly and rude. We went into this expecting the worst when it came to service but instead were greeted with the usual north eastern hospitality, which might be taken as coldness to some west coasters. The staff members we interacted with were friendly, helpful and efficient. We were there before the lunch menu started (11:45am) so they told us they could make almost anything for breakfast with what they had on hand. We ordered two breakfast burritos and they were fabulous. Very filling. Fresh ingredients. The only reason we are not giving them 5 stars is because there was no written or typed up breakfast menu, which led to some confusion. Coffee was good too! Plenty of colorful seating outside and some seating inside.

Very stale and hard red velvet cupcake. Looking at reviews, that blonde woman was the one I got my baked good from. She can be abrasive and should never work in customer service. Will never go back!

I Have PTSD that’s why I have a Service Dog and after what she did it hurts me to even want to go to Malibu Kitchen and it’s hard for me to be around a lot of people that’s why I went there early morning that day and then have her patch that says service dog on her caller. And I don’t want to Deal with that again if I do go in there to get Coffee or get something to eat. How do I let you know I’m coming back to the store

I've stopped by here several times, usually for snacks or drinks for the beach. The sandwiches are great. However, i did just try a breakfast bagel sandwich here (with H and H bagels) and it was terrible, just objectively speaking, bagel was burnt, bacon was burnt, bagel was old, entire sandwich was so dry i couldn't swollow a bite without a sip of coffee, just a nightmare, even by la's admittedly spotty standards (i love the bagel broker in central la and maury's on the east side.) To be fair, i still ate about half. Next time ill try the breakfast burrito for sure.

Excellent sandwiches & desserts. Expect to wait in line to order. Big selection though. An absolute "must try" place. Patio seating and completely casual.

Awesome place for any time of day! My wife loves their Reuben sandwich and I love the bbq pulled pork sandwich. It's a fast pace place so make sure you know what you want beforehand.

Eh. The pulled pork sandwich was average. Nice little shop but considering that it's Malibu, it is overpriced as expected
