I would give this hotel 5 stars for the location alone. It is perfectly situated between Marienplatz (a central town square) and the Viktualienmarkt (a beautiful outdoor market). If you want to visit any other spots, you are close to a subway stop as well. The Louis Hotel also offers a few bicycles to casually see some sites as well. The rooftop courtyard looks directly at the tower of Alter Peter (a historic church), and you can get drinks and cocktails from the rooftop bar.
The staff was very courteous, making our stay comfortable. We ate breakfast in the hotel restaurant, which offered some traditional Bavarian options (white sausage, pretzels, etc.), and lighter options (fresh fruit, yogurt, etc.). It was a bit expensive for what was offered, but for the convenience it was worth it to me. For dinner, we also dined at Emiko, the Japanese restaurant in the hotel. We only had edamame and a few sushi rolls, but I enjoyed them and felt they were fairly priced. After a week of eating heavier Bavarian food, this was a welcome bit of variety.
The overall vibe of the hotel is understated, but it feels like the management has put a lot of thought into the smaller details. Even the hallways are pleasantly scented. The hotel room itself was nicely appointed. The shower had a nice rainfall-style shower head, and the Ren shampoo and body wash were refreshing. I had come across these products separately and know they are well-regarded for being mild, which is key because I felt the air was a bit dry in Munich. I was a bit annoyed by the pair of twin-sized duvets on the queen-sized bed, but this seems to be standard in Germany. It seems like it is easy to have your clothes laundered, but I would have really appreciated an iron and ironing board in the hotel room. Wearing a slightly wrinkled shirt around the hotel detracted from my experience there, but I didn't want to go to the trouble have it sent out to be ironed for my short stay there.
The one thing that I would say is seriously lacking for a hotel of this quality is the fitness center. The room is very small, and there isn't much in there. To be fair, it is sufficient to get a reasonable workout, but it doesn't feel on par with the rest of the hotel experience.
Overall, I would recommend this hotel to others, and I will plan to stay here again if I return to Munich. I felt like the Louis Hotel offered me the chance to relax and to conveniently see my favorite parts of the city.
