The Most Original MICHELIN Guide Restaurants Around the World

"Often images portray Ibla—the picturesque historic center of Ragusa—from above, but at One MICHELIN Star Locanda Don Serafino you will instead feel as if you are entering from below. The restaurant's room is carved within a cave dug at the foothills on which the town is built. However, don't expect a rustic setting: service and cover are elegant, the atmosphere romantic, and the cuisine is among the most exciting on the island." - The MICHELIN Guide

Locanda Don Serafino Historic Boutique Hotel (Ragusa Ibla, Sicily) Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"Right in the heart of the UNESCO-listed center of the Sicilian city of Ragusa Ibla, Locanda Don Serafino is a unique mixture of old and new: it’s a patchwork of Baroque-era buildings, stitched together into an eclectic contemporary boutique hotel, complete with rakish modern furnishings and all the current luxury-boutique comforts. Nowhere is this contrast more striking than in the cave rooms, which feature Philippe Starck lucite Ghost Chairs alongside rough-hewn stone walls. The hotel’s greatest draw, however, is not the décor but the Michelin-starred restaurant that operates out of its atmospheric vaulted cellar." - Tablet Hotels

This is a lovely hotel in the heart of Ibla. The rooms are clean, comfortable and quiet (apart from the noise from the street, mostly from people passing by). Our room had a bedroom with en suite shower room, toilet and washbasin and there was a bath, comfortable seating area, kettle and coffee machine up some steps. The staff were all friendly and very helpful. Breakfast was freshly prepared and excellent. There is a parking service which made life much easier as parking can be a problem.

Great location and helpful staff but very disappointed with our room. We decided to splurge and book a junior cave suite based on the pictures presented on their website. We booked months in advance but when we got there we were put in to what looked like a regular room that I would consider based on their websites pictures and description to be a superior standard room. Niceky decorated but nothing special. A shower that flooded the bathroom everytime you used it as the glass partition would not close properly. No sound proofing so quite noisy from the street and surrounding rooms and no way could you fit four people in the room as per their description of "the suite". The breakfast that was included was tasty but if you didn't get down there early selection was limited. We went down at 9:45 and breakfast was suppose to be available until 10:30. Overall very disappointed as we were charged a lot of money for a room that was definitely not worth it. Not good value.

Nicely renovated house converted into a hotel. The room was OK, a little bit small but well furbished. Being in the old part of Ragusa, access to the Cathedral and all the little streets and alleys is within walking distance. Car access (and luggage drop out...) is an issue. So better have a small car and pack lightly. Car has to be parked nearby but the hotel offers a butler service within specific hours. Overall OK

Not great. There are good things. The location is excellent. Where to park (free) is explained well. Water pressure and temperature both good. The service and quality of food at breakfast - especially the Americano with hot milk - was exceptional. However a lot didn't work at all well. At the start we were offered a pleasant glass of Prosecco and told that someone would be though in a moment to talk us through how Ragusa worked. We sat there. Nothing happened. We finished our Prosecco. We went to our room. Bemused. The shower in our first room leaked horribly and we used most of our towels to absorb the water. They tried to fix it but couldn't. We then moved room and that shower leaked but not as badly so we just lived with it. In both rooms the handle of the small (rotting) square window in the bathroom just came off in your hands in a really weird way as though no-one had opened it for years. We left our laundry-to-be-cleaned in a bag on the floor, very visible, for it to be picked up and it was ignored. The service existed but there was no sheet with items or prices on it but we did our best with our own piece of paper. We took the bag down to reception and they were not at all apologetic (we thought they might offer the service "on the house" at the end, given our experiences, but they did not). At checkout, they gave us a figure to pay for extras with no breakdown of the costs, We had to ask to see the detail before paying. Etc, etc (there were other bits). See other comments below on damp cave rooms. We did comment directly to them about our experiences so this review should not be a surprise. In short, I'd guess that it's changed hands fairly recently and no-one cares any more. I may be wrong but that's how it felt.

I cannot commend Giuseppe at the reception enough for his incredible help. On August 14th, my group accidentally drove our rental car down the hotel's restricted access alley while looking for the restaurant. Despite being busy and the fact we weren't hotel guests, Giuseppe was our hero. He calmly took control, expertly drove our car out of the tight space, and gave us perfect directions. He even called the restaurant to hold our table for us. His kindness and professionalism turned a stressful situation into a wonderful memory. He went far beyond his duty for some lost tourists. This is what exemplary hospitality looks like. If you're visiting, you can trust that this hotel employs truly wonderful people like Giuseppe. A true asset to the team!

Very mixed experience||We had 3 junior suites for 3 nights.||One of the rooms is only a standard double with no extra seating area and a tiny bathroom (you have to hurdle over the bidet to enter the shower).||One of the other rooms had terrible humidity with smell and dampness until the staff offered a dehumidifier.||The location is good and majority of the staff very pleasant. However very over priced and overall a disappointing experience.

This room was impeccable and so original! service at check-in was charming, and the included breakfast was delicious and refined. Bed and linens are super confortable. Roomy washroom, all the required amenities and more to have a memorable stay - not hotel can compare to this uniqueness!

We enjoyed our stay in the cave room. The bathroom was very wet but the dehumidifier kept the bedroom dry and comfortable. The location was perfect. The valet service meant that parking was never an issue. Best of all was the staff - from the front desk to the breakfast room to the parking, everyone was very accommodating and welcoming!
