"The Blue Lagoon geothermal spa is one of Iceland’s most visited attractions, and its Lava restaurant has become a big part of making the experience memorable. Set into a lava rock face, the restaurantoffers stellar views over the lagoon and serves international food created by Ingi Þórarinn Friðriksson and his team of experienced chefs in a modern, refined environment. The menu features traditional Icelandic dishes such as arctic char, lobster, and slow-cooked lamb, all updated with modern techniques and ingredients. There are also vegetarian dishes and an array of tasty desserts, set menus at lunchtime, and special menus for kids. The drinks list is impressively broad, with a good selection of cocktails and fine European wines should you want to make an evening of it."

48 Hours In Iceland

"Lava Restaurant at the Blue Lagoon. Enjoy a leisurely lunch at Lava, a spacious restaurant built into an 800-year-old lava cliff on the west bank of the Blue Lagoon." - The MICHELIN Guide Nordic Editorial Team

A Review of Silica Hotel, Iceland | Hotel Above Par

"Carved into an 800-year-old lava wall and a five-minute walk from Silica Hotel, Lava Restaurant is dramatic in that we-don’t-do-candles-because-we-have-actual-fire kind of way, and I found the food holds up: Arctic char, lamb, and a tasting menu that’s just indulgent enough." - Jordi Lippe-McGraw

This restaurant elevates your Blue Lagoon experience to an entirely new level, adding depth and richness to an already unforgettable journey. Missing this special dining experience would truly be a regret. Every dish reflected a deep respect for ingredients and refined craftsmanship. I enjoyed the three-course lunch, and from the very first bite, the care and precision were evident. The chicken liver pâté was beautifully prepared, perfectly balanced by the gentle sweetness and acidity of blueberries. The crispy bread on the side, generously filled with seeds, added both texture and flavor. The lamb was exceptionally tender, juicy, and completely free of any gaminess. Cooked medium as recommended, it showcased the rich, distinctive character of Icelandic lamb—something you must experience. The dessert, especially the caramel sauce, was outstanding. One bite is enough to leave you speechless. After soaking in the warm geothermal waters, this meal felt like the ultimate reward for both body and soul. It made the long journey truly worthwhile. 🫶

I really loved my dining experience here! The standouts for me was the view and delicious bread and butter, so rich and amazing! Langoustine soup was a bit too salty, but I enjoyed the fish and the dessert. It’s pricey but worth it. Staff are polite and friendly.

This place is pretty good considering it’s part of a major tourist facility! They have a lot of vegetarian options. It wasn’t the best food ever but it was good. I would recommend if you’re in the area. Dessert was really good!

The free bread came with skyr butter that’s super buttery and creamy. Loved the langoustine soup but it was a bit salty. The beet salad had softness from beets but also crunchiness from roasted chickpeas. Burrata tomato was solid with bits of bread crumbs. Cod was extremely soft and buttery with the sauce

Wife and I ate here to celebrate our 15th anniversary after relaxing at the blue lagoon. We were seated on the best spot (in my opinion). From the setting, the service and the quality of food they were serving was all worth the price.

Lava Restaurant at the Blue Lagoon offers an unforgettable dining experience with stunning lagoon views. The modern Icelandic menu highlights local ingredients, beautifully plated and full of flavor. Relaxed yet elegant, it’s perfect for a post-soak meal—an ideal blend of fine dining and natural wonder.

My husband and I had an outstanding 4-course meal to end our trip. He got the non-vegan and I got the vegan one. The cauliflower bisque, scallops mushrooms, carrot barley dish, and this incredibly unique traditional dessert. Everything was top-knotch and prepared so beautifully. The atmosphere was very well done. There was a large lava rock on the back wall and the restaurant overlooked the lagoon, but out of the way of any people. If you're looking for a fancy romantic dinner, this is it! Please note: if you aren't staying at the hotel, it was quite dark with minimal lighting on the walkway and in the parking lot. Just be careful going back, as it was very windy/rainy/dark when we finished.

This was one of the best dining experiences I’ve ever had. I would honestly fly from London just to eat that ginger crème brûlée all over again. The taste, the presentation, the aroma, everything was spectacular.
