After all, the ritual of Turkish bathing wasn't one I was willing to just "leap" into; after stripping down to their bare essentials, bathers are soaked, washed and dried by same-sex attendants, typically in the sanctity of a mosque. Visited with my lady for a luxurious and relaxing experience in Istanbul. Women & men have separate opening hours, so no couples sessions are possible. Located very close to the Tophane tram stop on the T1 line beside a Mosque. The interior upon entry is stunning with a large domed ceiling. Sign in, a quick health questionnaire, and then off to the lockers to change into towel & sandals. Lead into the Hamman itself. My washer was Mirat, who was courteous, professional, and thorough throughout. Lay down on a hot stone prior to washing and then plenty of hot water and nice smelling soap. Towelled off, and I was led back into the entrance space to relax and have a complimentary black cay. Next up, I had a full body massage courtesy of Riza. A separate, quiet, curtained room with gentle soundtrack and massage oils enabled a very relaxing and enjoyable experience. Never visited a Turkish bath before. This was a very good way to experience it for the first time.

Had an amazing experience at this Hamam and I highly recommend it. Men & Woman are served at different times of the day so do not expect to bring your significant other with you. They must come another time. You'll lau down on a massive hot marble and then you're massaged and bathed by your masseuse. Highly recommended

Kiliç Ali Paşa is excellent Hammam! Top 5***** by me and my wife. Very close to cruise port, this old Turkish Bath, dating from 1580, it is very well kept, super clean. Very nice, professional service. It is better to have a reservation, but even without it the staff tries to provide service (I had service after 4 PM, and my wife had it the next morning). It is very safe (has locked compartments for personal items). After the service, you can relax with included cold drink or hot tea (çay). For the opposite sex, there are tables and chairs in front of the entrance. While waiting for my wife, I was brought free tea there. If we are ever in Istanbul again, we will definitely visit this particular Hammam!

Sublime. I was welcomed with a hibiscus drink, the attendants were mindful about this being my first time and kept asking if the water temp was okay, if I was feeling comfortable. I could see my dead skin come off. Highly recommend especially for those who are conscious, truly want this experience but still nervous. Go for it, will not be disappointed.

I recently had a hammam experience that left me disappointed. The booking process was convenient, allowing me to reserve online and pay on the spot, but the actual service was lacking. It all depends on the person providing the treatment, and unfortunately, my experience wasn’t great. The staff member started applying harsh pressure on my face without asking if I wanted that area treated. I had a rash afterwards on that side of my face. Throughout the session, she kept throwing hot water on me, and I had to ask her to switch to cold. While she knew some English, she rushed through the entire experience, which made it unenjoyable. If you’re in a similar situation, I would recommend asking for another therapist if you're uncomfortable.

A bit pricier than I expected and definitely aimed for tourists, but I still had a wonderfully relaxing experience at this hamam. I went first thing in the morning and the place was nearly empty, so it was really peaceful. By the time I left around 10AM, the place was getting more crowded, so I'm glad I took the earliest time slot at 8:15. The hamam itself was built in the late 1500's and renovated somewhat recently and with it's domed ceiling and marble interiors, it's absolutely beautiful. The experience itself reminded me of a Korean spa if anyone's done that- every inch of you gets scrubbed down with a mitt (it's rough but feels amazing), but unlike a Korean spa, you then you get doused in lots of soapy bubbles and then massaged before finally getting rinsed with water. My attendant was super sweet and did such a a great job. And my skin was super soft for about a week after! It was just what I needed after schlepping around Europe for three weeks. If you haven't experienced a hamam yet while in Turkey, I highly recommend it! Definitely make a reservation too- this can easily be done online.

Although it is considered to be expensive, the good hammam experience that I receive here is truly memorable. Did you really go to Istanbul if you didn't go to a Turkish bath? Although you could enjoy this city/country without having been to a hammam, I think going to one really completes your experience. Those that I have asked personally and travel bloggers always express how much they loved their experiences at Turkish baths, so I decided I had to get one to see for myself. Having searched Yelp and comparing the ratings and facilities, I decided to come to this one because it seemed the most authentic and it had great reviews regarding service and employees. This business divides their hours of operations between females and males. The women get the earlier hours and men get the later hours. I think men started at 4-11pm. Because I was in a foreign country, I emailed, rather than called, them to book my appointment. They responded within minutes with my confirmation. I loved how quick they were - it shows that they're attentive to their clients. My appointment was booked for 6pm, but I showed up earlier at around 530pm. Upon arrival, they enthusiastically welcomed me in just like family members do to their loved ones. They seated me to fill out some paperwork and provided complimentary juice. Afterwards, they led me up to the changing room. And now, the real experience begins. I walked into the bathing area where they seated me and threw a bucket of water on me prior to being washed. Then I was led to the center of the room where there's a circular marble table that everyone lays on while waiting to be washed. It was therapeutic because the table was heated - I almost fell asleep lol. Then Alaatin called me to his station to get washed. Buckets of warm water, soap, and deep scrubbing were in full effect. I've never seen so much dirt on my skin. I felt like I was exfoliated to the point where I had new baby skin. It was amazing. On top of that, Alaatin was massage my back and shoulders as well. Throughout my experience, he made sure I was comfortable and even made conversation when appropriate. He is an ideal employee to work with - I loved it. Afterwards, they take you out to the lounge area where you can hang around until close. They have Wifi, phone chargers, and drinks/snacks to purchase. I hung around for probably 3 hours just laying there appreciating my new skin lol. Honestly, I was a bit weary about doing this because I didn't know what to expect and I'm like "I can shower myself." My advice is to give this place a try and you'll really be able to experience a spa treatment like no other, and also get to realize how bad you are at cleaning yourself lol. I'm so glad I chose this place - amazing service with the best employees. Still dreaming of when I'll be able to go back.

I almost canceled my reservation here, I'm so glad I didn't. I had another bath a couple days ago in old district, and I thought I could do without another one as I've been there and done that already. I was so wrong. Let me first say this, don't be embarrassed when the attendant shows you the scrub mitt with a pound of dead skin, it's hard to clean your back when you shower, okay? The staff/service: speaks enough English to help you know what's going on and how to navigate this bath. Well trained. Respectful. Polite. Detailed and really spends time to make sure you are squeaky clean. The bubble massage so relaxing. Everyone offered first class service. Unlike the other place I went to, the scrub here work on almost every inch of your body and it was done so with care and attention to detail, there was a fine balance between old world practices and making it friendly for western tourists. After the bath, I also opted for a partial massage for 25 minutes. It certainly felt a lot longer than 25 minutes. Do yourself a favor and get a massage afterwards, you won't regret it. The ambiance: this bath apparently was built in the 1500's. It is impeccably maintained and the architecture is stunning. One you get inside the steam room you will be awed and mesmerized by the white dome. Everything in here was so clean.

Fabulous experience for a newbie. A wonderful relaxing treat to self after a bustling day in the city. Booked it only the night before and received a confirmation email almost immediately for a next day appt. Was treated like royalty from the moment I arrived. Quiet and calm surrounding which made the experience all the more exquisite. My only reason for a 4 star versus 5 star was that the bubble bath was not in a tub to soak in, like I expected, but more of the bubbles and hot water being poured over you. And I paid extra for the Turkish experience and in the end was unclear what the difference was. Otherwise, it was a phenomenal experience and I'd definitely do it again.

During my second visit I decided to give them a five star. The gentleman at the door remember my name and thanked me for coming back. Friends of mine who have visited Istanbul told me to try the experience of a Turkish Bath, and in all honesty, I had reservations. Anyway, this Hamami was recommended and so, my friend and I went in the morning to make reservations and discovered that women occupy the Hamami from 8 a.m. til 4 p.m. Then men use it from 4:30 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. My friend booked in the morning and I got a 4:45 appointment with a 30 minute massage. Upon arriving I was checked and told to go upstairs to change into a pestemal (long Turkish bath towel used for bath houses). I walked-up stairs and placed my belongs in nice secure lockers and changed. Each locker comes with a key that you carry everywhere so, your belongings are safe. Next I walked downstairs and was offered some cold water. The location itself is spotless. It's so clean you could eat off the floors. I was then walked to the back where I entered into a room that can only be described as the a sauna on steroids. I was told to lay on the elevated marble. Minutes passed and it felt like hours. It was super hot and humid. I then met my bath washer. He walked up and introduced himself and lifted me off the marble. I'd lost a few pounds of water so, thank god the water guy that was walking around with icy agua. I was still in the sauna marble room - just moved to a seated area so that my washer could begin the bath. I was then doused with lukewarm water that felt cold. It was amazing. My bath washer then began scrubbing me down with an exfoliating pad. He removed layers upon layers of dead skin. He then washed me down with soap. The soap smelled awesome. In short, your bath washer will bathe everything except your private areas. You're completely covered and seated during the bathing. The bathing ends with a cold water douse and then a massage. He began feeling for knots and applying pressure to them with his elbow. He cracked my neck and then moved me to a cooler room and began air drying me using a towel. It all ended with him wrapping me up in towels and I was moved to the front waiting area. Since I'd also scheduled a massage, my 30 minute massage began soon after my massage. I won't get to into it but, it was disappointing. Additionally, I went from being clean and exfoliated to oiled-up. I wish I'd skipped it. Anyway, this is the spot if you're looking for a Hamami. They're tourist friendly and the place professional and spotless. Skip the massage.

This was the highlight of my Istanbul trip. What an amazing experience! The hamam is located inside a mosque built in the 1500s, and the architecture is breathtaking. I love going to spas, and I have never felt this clean after a treatment. The soap bubbles and nap on heated marble were quite a treat, as were the sorbet and the relaxation lounge afterwards. I highly recommend this place (a tip - try to book the first appointment of the day, as it is less crowded).

During a visit to Istanbul my friends and I decided to try out this Turkish bathhouse. We went to another one two days prior and enjoyed it. We decided to try this one because it was really close to our hotel and it was said to be one of the best in Istanbul. We already had an idea as to what to expect so we weren't surprised by the toplessness of the other guests. As it is a bathhouse and you are serviced in an open area you can see everyone around you and what they are doing. Turkish bathhouses are not for the shy but I would recommend this place. It was a great experience. The website gives a good explanation of what will be done so at least you can be prepared. One thing I noticed was that it was super clean. The staff was constantly cleaning and disinfecting and whatever they used on you was a new package that was opened in front of you.

Absolutely wonderful experience, you can't miss out on a Turkish bath when in Istanbul! First off, it is very, very clean. The staff is friendly and the location is easy to get to. My friend and I went on a Saturday at 10 am and practically had the place to ourselves. All you need to bring is bikini bottoms, or any extra pair of underwear. They provide you with a locker and lock, a towel and sandals, and even a vanity area with a blow dryer. That means you can easily start your day there! The bath was very relaxing and left you feeling squeaky clean. The women were all very professional and did a wonderful job of making you feel comfortable and relaxed. One of the highlights of my trip, cannot wait to go back one day! Tips: -Book early in the morning, it's less crowded -No need to bring a blow dryer, just your makeup and a hairbrush -Just wear a pair of underwear to the bath that you don't care too much about, you can toss it after and not worry about carrying wet things around all day!

After a very long hike all over the city my nomad friend we decided to check this place out. I am a massage addict but I've only gone to a Hamam twice before and I was not enthused . I am far more used to Thai massage, Shiatsu, or Korean spas where a little Asian lady might take care of me. ~ie when I think massage I don't immediately think...oh I want a large hairy Turk grappling me ;-) BUT... This place is really amazing. You can see and feel the history. The whole place is really clean and the staff is great. They know what they are doing. I had a really nice relaxing time and came to the realization that it's more of a body scrub then the kind of massage I'm used to. I like how you can relax in the main center when your done and just stare up at the ceiling and marvel at how the dome is constructed. I highly recommend this place for any weary travelers !!

This was my first experience in a Turkish bath. My cousin, who lives in Istanbul, treated me to it, as she goes every month or so. Okay, so if you are uncomfortable with your nudity or other peoples' nudity or being touched in intimate places, this is not for you, let's get that out of the way. If you are okay with it, it is a must experience. It is in a beautiful, 16th century building that has been gorgeously maintained, and is completely professional, sanitary, and classy. Women's hours are different from men's hours, so there is no ogling. You are given lockers and disposable thongs (no bras--that area needs to be scrubbed!). You are dunked over the head with warm water, then lay for about 1/2 an hour on the most amazing heated slab of stone. The female attendants/masseuses then scrub you vigorously (you won't believe how much dead skin is on your body) in all areas, and do the most wonderful bubbly ritual/massage that will leave you feeling like a newborn. They also wash your hair if you wish. You finish with a minty towel over your face and relax on stuffed couches with apple tea (or whatever you wish). It was about 170 Turkish liras per person--completely worth the experience!!!

This Hamam was recommended to me by a work colleague who lives in Istanbul. She had been there for a bachelorette party. She assured me that it was less expensive than the touristy Hamam's and that it was cleaner. I have nothing to compare this with, but it was worth every penny and very, very clean. I am not Turkish and the last time I went to a Hamam was in Paris in college. I loved this visit. It was super calm, super nice and incredibly transformative. I went having read their info page in English and a few other "what to expect in a Hamam" guides online. That wouldn't have been necessary. Although no one was fluent in English in there, everyone that came into contact with me could speak enough English to make me comfortable. I had the traditional Hamam experience and it was about $65 USD plus tip. Here are some thoughts: -make a reservation -women's hours are posted on their website, but it's basically 8am-4pm -you don't have to stick money in your underwear for fear of being bullied by a large angry Hamam worker (as I was warned online), there is a civilized tip box in reception. You can stick it in an envelope when you pay. -you keep your panties on -plan to hang out after and relax, drink some tea, read a magazine, nap or chat My skin looks amazing. Thank you to everyone there who helped make this a welcoming Hamam experience.

I found this hamam through the concierge at the Grand Hyatt and was able to make a reservation ahead of time. You are immediately wowed upon entry and it felt like 5 star treatment and the facility is beautiful and impeccably maintained. The bath part itself was amazing and started with relaxation on the warm white marble slab underneath the huge white dome. The washing part began with scrubbing of the dead skin and then moved to the warm water and sudsing bath (felt like I was a car wash.) Nudity does not bother me, but there was never full nudity as you are wearing a wrap around your waist the whole time even when you are being drenched with water. After the bath you are given a light massage and then you are escorted to the relaxing area. I left with the skin like a baby. I wanted to return later in the week, but ended up not able to (one of the biggest regrets.) If I ever return to Istanbul this place will be first on my list.

I recently went on a three day trip to Istanbul, and as my first time in Turkey, I knew I needed to try a Turkish Bath. It was difficult to figure out how to pick one so I turned to Yelp in hopes that someone had posted about one. I found this one and my friends and I decided to give it a try. We were able to call that morning and make appointments for the three of us for same day, mid-morning. First off, let me just say how gorgeous this place is. It is absolutely stunning, clean, well kept, and full of historic architecture. When we arrived we were greeted by the receptionist, given some tea and told to relax while they readied our changing area with the right size sandals, towels, etc. Then we were given keys to our lockers and up we went to change. Then we were directed into the bath area (women only in the morning, men in the afternoon, so don't worry about mixing). I will just say, be comfortable with the people you go with, because you're going to end up completely topless in front of them lol, and in the end, only standing in dripping wet underwear (so don't wear white). Anyway, they assign each of you to your own "washer"- I am sure there is a term for them, but the woman who will be washing you. She gets you wet and then they have you lay down on this large heated marble slab to warm up and relax. To this day, I am curious as to how they heat it, but I will probably never know. Anyway they leave you laying like that for probably 20 minutes, and you just stare at the beautiful domed ceiling with star shaped skylights. Next your woman brings you to one of the washing stations surrounding this big marble slab (its a very large room), and begins the washing process. I won't get into all the details, but the whole thing is heavenly. You end feeling like you've been reborn, squeaky clean. After they rinse you off, they swaddle you in fresh towels and lead you back out into the main area and leave you to relax for as long as you like on oversize lounge furniture. It was one of the best experiences I have ever had and I highly recommend you try it and Kilic Ali Pasa Hamami is a great place to do so.

Beyond relaxing and a great deal for the experience and the time (over 2 hours). I'd recommend making a reservation for first thing in the morning, perfect start to the day.
