The Best Restaurants in Shoreditch, East London | Eater London

"Jolene finally brings what Shoreditch’s Redchurch Street has been crying out for all along — a very, very decent bakery. A diminuitive takeaway space with orange-red hues and a bench for perching, it offers breads, laminated pastries, and sweets and savouries made with rough-hewn care." - James Hansen

Memorable. It was a tough choice, but I went with the coffee & cacao bun, and I’m so glad I did. Flaky on the outside, with a soft, layered pull inside, like a cross between a croissant and a brioche. Not doughy like babka, with just the right amount of chew and buttery stretch. Light enough to keep you coming back for more. I finished it in minutes. No regrets.

Small little pastry and bread shop with benches outside. No indoor seating. Much smaller than the one at Stoke Newington but equally good pastries! Love their pain au chocolat! Crispy fresh layers of buttery goodness! Coffee is also excellent! Rich nutty flavour with no extra charge for alternative milks! A little pricey but you get what you pay for.

Jolene offers a great selection of pastries with well-made coffee to match (unfortunately only had soy or almond milk as alternatives). Also tried; 🥐Ham and cheese croissant - was flaky and elevated by a nice touch of mustard. 🥐 Pain au chocolat - was enjoyable, though the chocolate could have been more evenly distributed.

Had the ham&cheese and pain suisse au chocolat. The chocolate one for me was really fantastic. It's crispy and flakey and is the type of pastry that's more filling than light? Anyways super recc

Delicious fresh pastries, great drinks, amazing vibes. Went to Jolene for breakfast, tried several pastries and was not disappointed. Particularly liked the rhubarb pastry, very tasty with a perfect balance of acidity and sweetness. Among the savory pastries my favorite was the sausage roll but everything was excellent tbh. Their hot chocolate is the best I’ve had in a long time, reminded me of how my mom used to make it, delicious, very chocolaty and not too sweet. The atmosphere is very nice, was there on a Thursday so it wasn’t busy and was able to sit on the bench outside. To conclude, worth the hype, worth the price, go there during the week, try the rhubarb pastry.

The bakery was decent but was it really so nice that you must try? No. Not worth of the hiked up inflated price for the taste that was just an average. Something I would eat for breakfast in South London would be more tasty, memorable and unique. Plus you get surrounded by loads of pigeons if you decide to eat outside Jolene. Gross.

This bakery gets the word comfort food better than I've ever experienced. This is the type of food I'd like my partner too bring home when I'm having a bad day. I tried their maple cookie, and I've truthfully never had anything like it. Sweet, comforting melt in your mouth type softness. And the sweetness that makes your mom say: "just this once then" and then never take you again because it is so addictive. Their sausage rolls are something else too. In this one, the meat wasn't treated like an afterthought. Rich, in flavour with a hint of spice. When I tell about my travels it won't be about the vintage streets, the big Ben or the tea we had. Instead you'll find me talking about the food I had on Redchurch street.

Cheese and onion scone was out of this world. One of the best scones I’ve had in London. The sausage roll is really tasty and meaty as well! The staff has always seemed very annoyed with how many customers they have, but you’re in and out fast so it’s fine.
