I love everything about Ike's. I'm choosing to not share pictures this time because everything from the ambience to dining gives you an amusing experience that people should see for themselves. Take some time to look at all the pictures, decorations, menu, and even a life-size cutout of their owner!
I invited my coworkers to Ike's because they have many vegan/vegetarian options and delicious sandwich combinations. I ordered the "Ain't No Fun" (Downtown exclusive), which included vegan steak, Ike's million island dressing, cheddar (vegan option available), requested lettuce and tomatoes, and Ike's World Famous Dutch bread. Each sandwich has its own unique and quirky name.
The sandwich tasted phenomenal. The Dutch bread's savory flavor blended excellently with the vegan steak and sauces. The bread's texture also didn't feel too crunchy on my teeth. I felt full after eating the first half as usual, so it's a plus to have leftovers at home. Aside from the sandwich, I tasted the Zapp's Voodoo potato chips and appreciated how it didn't taste too vinegary. The mandarin cardamom drink had a refreshing citrusy flavor. Each sandwich bag comes with a lollipop; how cute?
While we waited inside for our food, our curiosity directed us toward pictures of the owner with celebrities. I'm not sure how accurate the owner's cutout compares to what I saw in the photos, but I find it funny how the marketing emphasizes his likeness. We ate at the patio, which allowed us to hear each other better as the inside had loud sounds.
Overall, my coworkers liked the food and the ambience, so I'm glad for my successful recommendation. I definitely want to come back with other friends and coworkers to try new sandwich combinations. Lastly, I love how the sandwich bag said that the owner's mom voted Ike's the best sandwich in the world. How can one help but agree with Ike's mom?
Travel note: My coworkers and I took the B/D line to Pershing Square Station then cut through Pershing Square to get to 6th St. People riding Metro bus can take lines 70, 76, and 78 to the Grand/6th St. stop or the J line to the Grand/5th St. stop. People can find parking lots scattered throughout Historic Core, but I find that taking transit allows for more easy traveling.
