"Ichi & Ichi Kakiya, Bernal Heights La Lengua by Strohl. Ichi, in some incarnation or another, has been a part of La Lengua & Bernal since 2006. We first encountered Timmy and his amazing sushi almost a decade ago, when he would wheel his little cart into the Knockout on Wednesday nights and make sushi until he ran out (FYI —The Knockout is an institution, and a great dive if you are in the area). The current version of Ichi is, in some ways, a million miles from their simpler beginnings. Ichi and Ni bar are situated in a beautiful, minimal space, with table seating and a lovely long bar, where you can watch your sushi being meticulously created. We strongly suggest Omakase service, where they will select your seafood for you, and keep bringing it out piece by piece until you are stuffed. Their sake is lovely, but if that is not your thing, they have Sapporo and Asahi on tap. Recently, owners Tim & Erin re-opened their previous super cute Ichi spot as Ichi Kakiya. They transformed the intimate space into a Japanese oyster shop and raw bar. And for the typography nerds out there—both spots feature intricate murals by super letterer Erik Marinovich, painted by New Bohemia Signs. Photography by Alanna Hale."

Best sushi place in town. A bit on the pricey side but definitely worth it. The chefs are seasoned pros and know what they're doing. Make sure to reserve seats at least 8hrs before because they're always packed. Service is great. They're wagyu is amazing. Definitely recommend going here.

There are a lot of seriously good sushi joints in SF, especially for omakase, but after trying almost all of them, ICHI is still one of my fav. It’s not pretentious, quality of fish is high, knife skills are good, and although it’s a bit more new age, in terms of accoutrements, the fish is never over powered. Sit at the bar. Do the omakase. Take their recomendaciones. Worth the long trip to Bernal from downtown.

Freshest sushi in the land! No need for added soy sauce or tamari because every bite you eat is perfected to taste amazing. We ordered a round of different sushi pieces then some salads and then rolls and hot dishes. The favorite of the night was the barracuda which had a Smokey yet subtle flavorings. Then we taught over the beef or blacken cod being better. I voted for the blacken cod, it had a delicate buttery taste after being marinated for 5 days. The dry crisp sake paired perfectly with all of our sushi and salad dishes. You can see from the photos I didn’t get the sesame paste vegetable dish or cod dish quick enough for a photo because it was so good.

Fresh and not too expensive (for sushi). My wife ordered a kama (collar) and the entire fish head came. In Japan that'd be two separate dishes. Scored. Fresh even on Sunday. Hot dogs are interesting appetizers. Limited lunch menu on Sunday.

This place was totally amazing. At first we were a bit skeptical about the credit card hold for the reservation, but once you get in there you'll see why it is well worth it. Super knowledgeable staff that checks up on you just enough to not be overwhelming. 100% A+

I had their Masuta Omakase, and was very pleased. Amy was our server and she charmed us all evening with her great quirky personality and amazing sake knowledge. The food quality was outstanding, and the chef's seasonings and codes were all very interesting and different. He really brought out the fish quality out, and found ways to highlight the subtle nuances of Japanese seasonings

If you're "I love sushi" but secretly know nothing about it, don't go here. This is food love I clearly indulged with my wallet. Brought my boyfriend here for our anniversary for an omakase; the first time an omakase was not prefixed but just never-ending until I say stop, but I did not want it to ever stop. Best sushi of SF hands down.

A cozy fantastic feast of fresh fish served by your chief. Great service but we felt we were rushed a little but the food made it up.
