The 34 Best Hotels in Barcelona

"One of only a few hotels set in one of the city’s bustling residential neighborhoods, there’s a distinctly authentic feel about Hotel Brummell. From the urban design of the lobby to the locals sipping café con leche on the window bench, Hotel Brummell is Barcelona through and through. While the Poolside Standard is an excellent option for budget travelers, we can’t resist the Brummell Penthouse. There are two of these, situated at the very top of the hotel, each featuring its own private outdoor bathtub and terrace, and a spectacular bedside view across the city. For all things food, Brummell works with Istanbul-born Seyma Ozkaya Erpul, the woman behind local favorites Funky Bakery and Funky Eatery. Ozkaya has set up her own in-hotel bakery from where she distributes sweet and savory danishes, babkas, boreks, and the highly addictive and ultra-cheesy Basque cheesecake." - Gemma Askham, Isabelle Kliger

On the Grid : Hotel Brummell

"Hotel Brummell is a new concept of ‘casual luxury’: eliminating artifice and creating a truly different experience. Their creative team have managed to mix the Nordic style and pieces from Sri Lanka to create a cosy, Mediterranean atmosphere. The hotel contains 20 rooms decorated with tailor-made pieces and amenities from Malin + Goetz, just like the communal areas – the patio, swimming pool and sauna – designed to recharge your batteries for the next step of your journey in a fun and relaxing atmosphere. Whether you reserve your room or drop in to have a drink, don’t miss this tiny urban oasis." - ZeClé

Rooftops and Radical Hotel Designs in Barcelona

"There’s a refreshingly down-to-earth sensibility at play here, probably due somewhat to the neighborhood’s abundance of cheap watering holes, which in turn fuel the charming tapas-and-galleries vibe on every street." - Mark Fedeli

Hotel Brummell — Hotel Review | Condé Nast Traveler

"How did it strike you on arrival? One of only a few hotels set in one of the city’s bustling residential neighborhoods, there’s a distinctly authentic feel about Hotel Brummell. From the urban design of the lobby to the locals sipping café con leche on the window bench, Hotel Brummell is Barcelona through and through. What’s the crowd like? Visitors here have a healthy glow about them, as if they’ve just come in from a run, or finished one of the hotel's complimentary yoga classes. Tell us about your room. While the Poolside Standard is an excellent option for budget travelers, we can’t resist the Brummell Penthouse. There are two of these, situated at the very top of the hotel, each featuring its own private outdoor bathtub and terrace, and a spectacular bedside view across the city. What's the bed like? Queen-size bed with 100-percent cotton sheets. How's the bathroom? Choose your roommate wisely! The open-plan room and bathroom is best suited to guests who are very comfortable together. Other key details include a rain shower, heated floors, and homemade MMLL bathroom products. How's the Wi-Fi? Wi-Fi here is totally free. Anything stand out about other services and features? Brummell has partnered with local wellness specialists Beyond BCN to offer complimentary yoga and boxing classes, which take place in the hotel’s light-flooded loft. And if that's not enough activity for you, there's a complimentary running club that puts guests and locals through their paces on the nearby hills of Montjuïc every Tuesday. Book online if you'd like to take advantage of the half-day bike rental as well. After all that exercise, treat yourself to some time on the roof terrace—selfies in the plunge pool are sure to rake in the Instagram likes. What was most memorable about your stay? This hotel is a real treat for the health-and-wellness set. Bottom line: worth it, and why? The small Poolside Standard room offers great value. In the low season, the Penthouses are an incredible deal as well. All in all, you can't go wrong with a stay here." - Isabelle Kliger

We stayed 2 nights in one of the penthouses and it was amazing. The outdoor tub was refreshing during siesta after walking the city and the views were lovely. The bed was super comfy and the shower is clean, hot and good pressure. The best part of the Hotel is the service- which we found impeccable. On check in we were given ample suggestions for dinner and activities and in checkout the helped with taxi and mail. Do not skip the breakfast- Funky Bakers was the best bread I had in the whole trip! We will return!

Stayed 6 nights in a 3rd floor Mountain Room. Area is a little “rustic” but comes alive in the evening (like most of the city). Felt safe walking to/from the Metro as solo, female traveller. Staff could not have been more caring & helpful - made my stay a delight! Enjoyed the pool (through the heatwave), and the room aircon was more than up to the challenge! Big, comfortable room - clean and lovely bathroom products, services daily if desired. Had breakfast at the Funky cafe 2 mornings and good offering of light & more extensive offerings and great batch brew coffee. Enjoyed Montjuic Gardens and ran up the mountain which was a wonderful early morning experience with views over the port and a route around the castle and nearby trails, down via the cemetery and Olympic stadium. Easy ride into the main shopping & dinings areas (10-20mins), and great local options in St Antony area a short walk away. Thank you for your care - would highly recommend!

We highly and enthusiastically recommend Hotel Brummel if you are staying in Barcelona! We stayed 7 nights and loved our poolside room, the wonderful staff, the breakfasts, the sauna, and the overall vibe of this small, charming, and relaxing hotel. Location was perfect- we walked everywhere. Staff had great recommendations and were excited to make sure we had a fun stay. Beds were super comfy, shower pressure was magical. We had the best time and would love to stay here again!!

So glad we choose to stay at Hotel Brummell. The team was amazing, especially Mária, the gentleman who checked us in, the restaurant staff, and the girl who was interning for a bit. We got the penthouse, highly recommend booking that room if you can (there are two of them). Location is great, close to everything. Breakfast was amazing, one night we also took food up to our balcony and enjoyed a late night meal on the patio. Thank you again for the hospitality. We look forward to visiting again in our lifetimes.

Google
Loved this hotel. One of the best that we have stayed in recently. So many positives: -Enjoyed being close to the walking trails and botanical garden to step away from the city and get some quiet. -The coffee at the hotel is 💯 -The people were always friendly and kind. -The penthouse room was large and beautifully designed. -I particularly LOVED the soap, lotion, shampoo and conditioner they provided in the rooms. I regret not buying it as I now wish I could get some. -The map they give you with recommendations is so smart and nice as a tourist. - They have daily recommendations that they print out and leave in the cafe and elevator. I really enjoyed reading this everyday!!! The only thing I would change. -The tub outside of the penthouse room does not get warm and does not fill up well. If I were them I would write that in the description as you can't use it unless it summer. -Some items in the room look a little warn and could use a refresh. (But I am picky and that is not a major thing)

This is our second visit to this Hotel. We first visited it before the pandemic and we liked it so much we decided to return for this trip. The location is great, away from the most touristy parts of town. And it’s near a metro station. It’s a small hotel so you feel welcome and it has a lovely informal atmosphere. What I love most about the hotel is the curated recommendations they provide for restaurants, shopping and culture around the city. Any recommendations we tried turned out great. They also have a wonderful breakfast.

Everyone at the hotel is very welcoming and helpful. I forgotten my keycard and someone picked up the message and return my call at 1130pm (even the reception was closed already at 11pm). |The boutique hotel is located right next to the park where you can go for a run, rent a bike from the hotel and enjoy the most beautiful view of Barcelona. |there’s so much to do. In afternoon you can sit by the pool have some sun, and there’s also a private sauna .. hard to get in a boutique hotel. |It is very quiet in the evening and the team makes all the difference! They have plenty of local recommendations! I would not hesitate to recommend this to anyone (I’m usually quite critical when it comes to hotel selection). A good stay can drastically improve your holiday experience. |It is not luxury - but it is simple, local and the thoughtfully curated.

Google
I agree with the majority of reviewers who really liked this hotel. I found it very comfortable with high quality amenities. The coffee and pastries were fabulous. All of the staff -- both at the front desk and the restaurant were patient and kind. I especially want to thank Maria at the front desk for providing wonderful recommendations and good conversation to my wife and me. The hotel is located in the Poble Sec neighborhood. This is not central Barcelona and we appreciated the fact that it wasn't. The neighborhood is far less tourist-focused than lots of Barcelona. We discovered some excellent restaurants within a few blocks of the hotel. It is also easy to go to Montjuic to walk around, go to the museums, cable car, etc.

Yelp
Review is for the morning coffee experience at the Hotel Brummel. My friend lives a few doors down from the hotel. She commented to me how delicious the pastries and coffee is, but that one must arrive before 11am to consume. First time, we two arrived at about 11:15am. The front desk attendant kindly smiled at us and gestured us to the back right area, which has seating for 25-30 people. It was empty. There was a large plate of pasties. An espresso machine is nearby. We asked the female server (in Spanish, which we both fluently speak) if we could have a coffee and pasty. She did not smile. She did not attempt to be pleasant, she said no, there was no way to make us coffee and serve us, that they are closed at 11am. This in spite of the espresso machine light still being illuminated (so it would be easy to make a coffee) and a plate of pastries piled high right there. She was curt and dismissive. Undaunted, we returned a few days later and arrived at 10:55. There must have been many folks at the hotel the night before, as the breakfast area was crazy busy, maybe 20 people all about. We found two seats and asked the same lady for a coffee and pastry. There was clearly only 1 pastry remaining, but we asked if we could have some toast and jam, and the one pastry. And coffee, of course. Again, we were polite and spoke Spanish. The same server haughtily informed us that she didn't have time to make toast and that we would have to hurry up and have our snack and coffee anyhow, as we would have to LEAVE by 11:00am. Who does this server think she is? I was so offended that I wrote to the management. I have not, as of two weeks later, any response.

Yelp
I loved our room with a terrace at this hotel, in fact I loved the terrace and comfy bed so much it was hard for me to leave the hotel. The neighborhood is great, safe, and convenient to both the metro and walking to La Rambla, but I don't know why you'd want to go there. There are some good restaurants nearby and the front desk will give you good recommendations and their custom map at check in. I did not eat in the restaurant in the hotel but did grab coffee and croissant each morning. The hotel has a pool and sauna that we could have used with 30 minutes' advance notice to warm up (we were there in early November). All in all this was a great hotel for our visit to Barcelona and I would recommend it, especially if you do not want to stay in a touristy part of town.

Yelp
We didn't know what to expect on first trip to Barcelona but it was excellent. 6 blocks downhill to La Ramblas. Cute neighborhood on hill. Rooms are nice and clean and comfortable bed. Well equipped bathroom which is one room with shower sink and commode. We had s little balcony that overlooked the street. The pool is not a "pool" by American standards but ample to lay next to in the sun and take a dip to cool off. The staff is friendly and helpful. I would definitely come back and stay here again. Close enough to the fun and far enough away if you want to retreat.

Yelp
I had a pleasant stay here. Clean, spacious rooms with a nice atmosphere. However, there were one downside, and I regret saying it but even though the owner is very charming and friendly, he would benefit by taking notes... I had asked him at three occasions if me and my colleague could have breakfast to go, over e-mail, when making the reservation, and again when checking in. He assured us that at 7am we would have breakfast to go. The reason why I even reminded him again and again, was because he was a bit all over the place, very enthusiastic! A wonderful person, but his mind seemed somewhere else. At 7 am the morning after, our car was waiting to take us to the airport, and there was no breakfast to go, which we had communicated and paid for. I felt really sorry for the staff that worked this morning, with no note from the manager regarding this, and with nothing ready, since bread was baking in the oven. I got really disappointed, since the stay had been so great! Part of my job is to find new hotels for my company, since we travel a lot. I wish this place was more reliable, because the area and rooms were so great! However, when traveling in business your schedule is tight, and you need to trust the places you stay at. Too bad this was not one of those places. Luckily the chef were able to prepare a coffee and a sandwich to go, but you can imagine my disappointment having to wait, and not get the fresh bread.

Yelp
Worth it for the penthouse with an outdoor tub and view. They have an honest bar you can make your own cocktails. Breakfast was good, but recommend going out to their recommendations for brunch. Staff is super nice and willing to answer all questions. They gave us a very helpful map during our stay. Only 4 blocks away from a metro station - use the metro! Cheap, clean, SUPER easy to use and we never waited more than a minute for the train.

Yelp
Hotel Brummell is a small, clean very well run hotel in the barri Poble Sec on the slopes of Montjuic. The rooms are large, airy and well cleaned, they have a small but quite nice Sauna, and a pool and patio area. I did not use the pool and patio area as it was chilly (10-14C) during my stay. What sets this hotel apart is the caring, friendly, helpful attitude by every member of the team. I extended my stay by a few days because I wanted to indulge in this special place. By the time I left it was more like leaving a friends home than a hotel.
