"Classic island-style dishes are well-priced at this mini-chain. From its numerous locations, including in Oceanside, Tierrasanta, and Pacific Beach, find plate lunches from $8.95 that all come with a side of steamed rice and macaroni (or green) salad. Try the Kalua pig, lava chicken, or seared ahi sandwich with alfalfa sprouts. For something sweet: Pineapple Dole whip." - Ligaya Malones

Google
So I’ve been looking for a more authentic Hawaiian food place. I came upon Homestyle Hawaiian. I ordered the spam musubi, deliciousness 🤤 also ordered the Teri Chicken lunch plate with 2 scoops of the Mac salad (I’m not much into rice) the chicken was juicy and the Teri sauce was not overwhelming. It also had green onions and sesame seeds and as you can see they are not shy with the portions. They have these “dirty sodas” I got the Penny lover bc I like the coconut flavor. They also have an ube cheesecake and another cake that looks really yummy. I did not take pictures of those. Anyways this place beats other “chain” Hawaiian restaurants, sorry L&Lnot going back! This is my new Hawaiian place 😊 As far as atmosphere I have 4 stars bc it is small inside. Very friendly smiling staff 😊

Google
I got the plate lunch with spicy garlic butter shrimp, Mac salad, and rice. Also tried a malasada, spam musubi, and a dirty soda. This was so good! You have to try their food. You will not be disappointed. I don't even want to leave - I just want to order more food lol

Google
Although there is a long wait for food, it is still great. Portions are huge We enjoyed the beef and chicken Not a big fan of the macaroni

Google
This is one of favorite Hawaiian food in town. I decided to get their special and basically have all the meat ingredients I love such as Portuguese sausages, hula pork, beef patty and meat sauce with sunny side up egg. Very yummy spot if you like trying some authentic Hawaiian food. Give this place a try

Google
Teriyaki chicken was disappointing. A little dry, a little chewy, which is surprising for thigh meat. Portions were pretty large, about 3 full-sized chix thighs, but not well trimmed (found gristle/bone). Priced around $15 for plate lunch. Mostly a to-go place, no restrooms and limited seating.

I recently picked up takeout from Homestyle Hawaiian, and I have to say, this place is an absolute gem in San Diego! We had so much food that we were able to enjoy it later, and it was just as delicious the second time around. The flavors were spot on, and every dish was satisfying and full of taste. The service was also outstanding. The two staff members working up front were incredibly respectful and provided excellent customer service, making the whole experience even better. We drove over an hour for an appointment nearby, and choosing Homestyle Hawaiian for takeout was the best decision we could have made. No disappointment here—just amazing food and great service. This place is definitely one of San Diego’s best-kept secrets, and we’ll absolutely be back!

Google
Some of the best garlic shrimp I’ve ever had out side of Hawaii. Everything was very flavorful, terri chicken, and beef were so delicious as well. Staff was friendly and great customer service.

Google
A lovely little Hawaiian spot! They have a large variety of meats (the big three), and the quality is incredible. The only complaint I have was the wait time for the food resulting in a 3 for service, but after eating it was well worth the wait. Parking was also annoying, plan to walk over from the plaza over. I got the teri salmon, and my friends got the two combo plate and katsu (fried) chicken; we also got some lumpia to share. They also have some specialty plates with multiple flavors on the side of the store. We also tried a hand-shaken lemonade and a dirty soda, they have so many flavors it may be hard to decide on! The drinks may seem expensive but they give you a large cup full of it. Definitely plan to come again and try another dish sometime!

Yelp
I've loved this place for years. Consistent high quality marks in all aspects. Great spot.

Alan S.

Yelp
Get here by 11am when they open because there will a line. That is a good sign of a delicious spot. Service is kind and I like this spot better than the one in PP because it's larger and there are more options. I feel like that they have at this location that being said if you want Hawaiian food that is great in San Diego you have a few options but I will say Homestyle Hawaiian is at the top. Their variety of lava chicken to pork and spam musubi is what you are looking for that will remind you of the Hawaiian islands, and they have the dole whip, and they have cakes which are on top of what I would say is already of great variety of food. It's not cheap, but I would say it is on par for the type of food that you are getting. The location looks like a strip mall where you stop and get some drinks, but don't be fooled because this location has good food and I would say if you're looking for something that reminds you of Hawaii, you can't go wrong here. The portions are always pretty generous and I enjoy the Hawaiian music they play in the background.

Yelp
Pretty awful. Worst tempura I've ever eaten. Greasy and heavy. Bad mac salad. The dining area was filthy. Uncleaned tables. Worn beyond acceptable. Maybe ok for the high school crowd. The more I think about this. From 2 stars to 1.

Yelp
You'll get a seat if you're lucky; this place is too popular! We were in the mood for Hawaiian poke but I didn't realize that this place had other dishes/plates as well. I thought it was just a poke spot lol oops. Service was really nice and they let us know that basically for the same price, we could get poke by itself or do the nachos... so of course, we got the nachos! - Poke Nachos $15.95 - Kalua Pig Plate w/ mac and rice $13.95 - 24oz. Hawaiian Passion $2.75 Everything was delicious! And honestly for the portion size, service, and flavors, it's a 10/10. We couldn't decide which plate was better one bite after the other. The kalua pork was super juicy and flavorful. There were two types of poke with the nachos and both were delicious. Wish the chips were crispier but it's okay. There's only four tables inside and they pack everything to go whether or not you're eating there. I guess just for the convenience factor in case no tables were available. The other trash can is also outside! In-person cashier or order at the kiosk. Plenty of parking in the small plaza.

Nancy L.

Yelp
There are about 4-5 tables in the "sit down" area with not enough chairs. One table had only one chair, so we had to pull chairs from the other tables in order for us to sit. Also there is no bathroom or hand washing station available for customers. The lemonades were very good, sweet and tangy at $5 each. Our food items however, not the greatest or memorable at all. The garlic shrimp "spicy" had no visible garlic and no spice to it. Almost seemed like it was maybe sweet paprika that was used to give it the color. I was excited to try the spicy option but sadly was let down with the missing garlic and the missing spicy factor. It did come in a pool of melted butter, very salty but not much other flavor to it. We received our order 10 minutes before closing time and definitely felt rushed. Our food was packaged tightly to go, but we were far from home so we wanted to eat there. But since we didn't have much time left before closing, we just took a few bites and decided to head out as the staff had started sweeping and cleaning while we were still seated. Not a fan and left disappointed.

Yelp
Great spot for a kalbi & poke fix if you're in the area. I got the kalbi plate with a side of spicy mayo tuna poke on the side totaling near $34 before tip. A bit on the pricier side but I can confirm that everything was great! There's no restroom inside from what I could tell when I picked up my to go order so be weary of that, however the inside is clean with plenty of tables to sit at. The parking lot is shared with a couple other businesses but there was no trouble finding parking at the time of arrival (7pm). As mentioned - it's a bit on the pricier side but I wouldn't mind coming back especially for their Hawaiian dole whip!

Justin C.

Yelp
I ordered the two item combo for $17.50 which gives you a choice of two proteins along with steamed rice and Mac salad. I chose the Korean Chicken and Kalbi. The two item combo is solid value! I added a spam masubi ($3.25) to round out my meal. The workers here are very friendly and happily explained the menu options and provided advice on which proteins to select. The food took around 15 minutes to make. The shop has some limited indoor seating but it was completely full when I arrived at the peak dinner rush at 6:30 pm on a weeknight. The Korean chicken was delicious! It came with a side of their secret sauce. The skin was crispy and the interior of the chicken was very juicy. Dark meat was definitely used. The Kalbi had solid flavor but the pieces I received were a touch on the chewy side. Sides and spam masubi were on point. This is a great spot for a casual dinner!

Richie F.

Yelp
Pleasant Hawaiian food. Portions seem to be inconsistent but the taste of the food is always good. My strongest recommendations are the Lava Chicken or Chicken Katsu. The poke is good and for the price I'd recommend going for the full 1lb over the 1/2lb. Wayyy more bang for your buck. Good poke, great katsu. Sometimes the portions are good, sometimes I leave disappointed and hungry so I take a star away for that reason.

Paige N.

Yelp
Just picked up our to go order from here. My pulled pork plate was almost entirely fat. I had to pick it all out. Sure pork is fatty, but I've never had pulled pork this fatty before, it's inedible. We got two of these plates and the other one didn't have nearly as much fat. Disappointing that most of my meal was inedible. The rice and salad were also soaked in pork juice.

Yesenia J.

Yelp
The food was delicious! Ordered to go so it would be ready when I was going to pick up! My other two co workers ordered too! The two of us that ordered online our order was ready. However the friend that call in the order her food wasn't ready and she ordered before us. However, the staff got her food ready quickly: All of us enjoyed our meals and we will be back!!

Ashley C.

Yelp
We don't have many Hawaiian restaurants back home so we made a point to stop at one while visiting San Diego. This one seemed to have great reviews! It's fast casual style - order at the counter and you can dine in or just take your food to-go. We dined in but happened to be visiting during a heat wave and there was zero AC so it was a little bit rough but the service was nice at least! Even the employees seemed to be struggling through that heat so I felt bad that they were even open. There were lots of people coming in during our meal though so it was nice to see they have a lot of support from the community. We ordered Da Beast off of the specials menu. It's a beast indeed - rice topped with a beef patty, chili, kalua pork, spam, Portuguese sausage, and two eggs. It was a hefty meal and completely worth the $18.95 price tag. My favorite part was the sausage and the kalua pork. We also shared the deep fried musubi which was one of the reasons why I picked this particular restaurant. We haven't had it since we tried it at a popular place in Maui and it was just as delicious! I loved the sauces on top and it was nice and crunchy. I already had a drink but could not pass on the dirty sodas! They were only $2.75 for a regular or $3.75 for a large and you can't find that pricing anywhere these days! They even have the crunchy ice. I picked the Hawaiian Passion which is Mello Yello soda with strawberry, lilikoi, and coconut cream. The cream was my favorite part of the drink and mellowed out the Mello Yello and sweetness. If I lived here, this would definitely be somewhere I would frequent often. Nothing fancy, just some good quality food and service!

Yelp
Well it's been quite some time since I last visited Homestyle Hawaiian. I am not a fan. At a $15.03 price point (including tax)for some kulua pig a couple scoops of rice and Macaroni salad, they are out of my budget. All items I tried were OK the young man at the counter was patient with me as I looked over the menu. He answered all my questions. I took the food to go and when I arrived at my location, I discovered there were no fork or napkins.I keep some in my car for such occasions . It was a hassle going back to my car from my picnic spot to fetch items the young man assured me was in the bag. The pork was supposed to be on a bed of cabbage. They have a diffrent perception than I do á to what a bed of cabbage is. There was almost no cabbage. One thing I feel they could improve on would be to have a senior menu . For the kulua pig for example, half as much pork, more cabbage and half the rice and charge half as much. If they did that I'd be more likely to visit more often. The way it is now I just can't pay that much money for lunch. I can't say much about the ambiance since I wasn't there long enough to notice.

Yelp
So after loving this 2 years ago I came back for more . I had the mahi with capers which was really nicely seasoned and cooked . Same day I came for dinner and ordered the beast along with a burger and mac salad. And that changed my mind on this whole Place . The beast plate was the worst platter , box dish I had in all My Two weeks of visiting California and Arizona !!! It was a complete waste of money I had to trash everything but the spam and rice and burger in it. The Kailua pig was just more fat chunks than meat / zero smoke or any flavor at all.no clue who cooked it but they definitely had zero clue of how it should be cooked. I lived in Hawaii and have ate some Of the best and this puts a shame their location and kitchen. Next the chili was completely flavorless ground beef with beans nothing else to be said. If you go here get fish, kalbi spam and mac salad. The stuff I just mentioned is a definite no go!!!

Clara C.

Yelp
I wandered in here for a take away lunch. After checking out the menu, I decided on a two-item combo with lava chicken and teri chicken. They accepted credit card/Apple Pay. The lady told me it would be done in less than 10 minutes, and it was! Lava chicken - very very thin chicken meat. Not sure how this would be different from katsu chicken. Teri chicken - they actually gave me chicken breast !? The chicken breast meat was dry ngl but was ok with the lava sauce, which was given on the side. There was another piece that was dark meat, so that was better. Mac salad - THIS WAS SO GOOD. hot damn White rice - good. Plenty of parking in the lot. Bathroom inside the restaurant. I would come back.

Yelp
Will preface by saying my family is from Hawaii, and I haven't loved any mainland Hawaiian food - until I tried Homestyle Hawaiian. The food makes me miss Hawaii so much, and we can vouch for it's authenticity! It's all about the spam musubi and mac salad. I find myself getting HH every time I visit San Diego. Since the space is a bit smaller we always get takeout, which works great. Staff are so nice and fast, especially considering how busy they get. Highly recommend the big braddah or any combo.

Connie L.

Yelp
Straight from the islands is this little gem! They have all the favorites. The musubi was perfect!

Dave W.

Yelp
Having grown up on plate lunch, SPAM musubi and every kind of teri-plate combo possible since childhood on Oahu, I'm always searching for a decent San Diego option besides Chris'...'dis ain't it. Sorry. How do you ruin a basic two item plate lunch combo? Well, first you start off with the cheapest, fatiest piece of teri beef, then you make sure that your serving portion is at least 60-70% fat and grisle and the rest of it is dried out. Then you charge an extra $.50 for teri sauce on the side to anyone who tries to make it more moist. For your second item, you can have the Lava Chicken (or it might be the Katsu Chicken...I'm still not sure) because the Lava Chicken was supposed to be "doused in signature lava sauce" which was nowhere to be found. So the generic breaded chicken could be whatever you want it to be - Lava, Katsu...who knows. just pay $.50 more to make it whateva...or don't bother. Long story short, just save yourself the drive, the money and the calories. This place makes L&L seem "authentic."

Yelp
We used to visit frequently, but it had been a long time since our last visit. We ordered some of our favorites: Korean chicken + kalbi plate, and shrimp scampi. We gave our name when we ordered. Almost 30 minutes went by and we still didn't have our food. We went up to the counter to check and our food had just been sitting there cooling down and getting soggy! We were listening closely and nobody called my name. If someone is waiting around a long time for their food, it's basic customer service to check up on them and the order. It's a small restaurant so they can clearly see who has been waiting around. When we got home, we realized they did not put sauce on the Korean chicken, which is like half the point of the dish. It's supposed to have the lava sauce as mentioned on the menu. It was SUPER disappointing to be missing such a critical component. Some shrimp in my scampi were not de-veined. Homestyle Hawaiian really needs to step it up on quality control. Their food is NOT cheap, so they need to make sure you get what you pay for. Make sure you don't forget essential elements like SAUCE on an item that requires it. De-vein the shrimp! And check up on orders for customers who have been waiting a long time. I will be back because the food is undeniably good when they get it right, and I'll gladly update my review if they hit the mark next time. Business owners, if you are reading this review, please take these notes into consideration!

Allison T.

Yelp
SOLID casual option for dine-in or take-out! There is a constant line of about 2-3 parties waiting but the food comes out fairly quickly. Seating inside can accommodate ~15-20 though it is usually crowded and taking to-go is just as good. I LOVE the garlic shrimp scampi though I wish it was available as an option for the 2-item combos - I imagine pairing it with the lava/katsu chicken would be amazing. Regardless, would recommend if you are in the mood for a beautifully garlicky meal that reminds you of Hawaii!

Katelynn K.

Yelp
So delicious!!! I ordered the Korean chicken plate and my husband ordered the combination plate with short rib and chicken Katsu. Both were phenomenal! The rice was cooked perfectly, and the macaroni salad was delicious, the lava sauce was my favorite!! We ordered over the phone and picked it up and it was hot and ready for us in about 20 minutes, the inside of the restaurant was cute and the service was phenomenal.

Halle J.

Yelp
Let me start by saying, I don't even like meat that much!! But I will be back for the teriyaki beef and Korean chicken. The meat was so tender, very little fatty pieces, and so much flavor!! The serving size is great too for a $20 combo plate. The Mac salad was good, nothing out of the usual/a little more mayo than I prefer but it still got ate! Will definitely be coming back. The service was friendly and quick as well, I recommend placing a phone order in case they're busy as they were when u came around 5pm!

Tanera J.

Yelp
Came across this place when looking for some food to eat during my trip to SD. The main thing that caught my eye was the deep fried musubi. I love Musubi and I've never had it deep fried. I ordered that, the kalua wontons, and the garlic shrimp scampi in spicy. The musubi was delicious. I love the slight crisp from the fry and the sauce on top was really good. The Kalua wontons were decent however, the Kalua was a bit dry. I think it needed a bit more cream cheese and to mix the cream cheese with the pork. The pork was just sitting on top of the cream cheese. The sweet dipping sauce for it was delicious though. The garlic shrimp scampi was pretty good, I got the spicy and I feel like it wasn't very spicy but it did have good flavor. Plenty of garlic and the sauce was really good on the white rice as well. I was very pleased with the service here as well. The guy at the counter was very friendly and made some general small talk with me which I appreciated because I wasn't in the best mood for personal reasons. I also ordered a Lilikoi Lemonade and it was super refreshing. The restaurant was small and cute but I got my food to go so I could go eat it by the beach.

Foodie M.

Yelp
Food is delicious and freshly cooked . It's a small place and gets packed around peak hours. They don't care much about customer service. I went there 30 mins before closing and started eating in the restaurant. The staff literally started cleaning the area and banging chairs upside down to kick me out . Would have been nicer if they simply told me we are closed for dine in before placing an order. I end up eating in my car.

Darlene D.

Yelp
Visiting the area from LA and ordered the chicken katsu plate. It was okay, wasn't the best I've tried but got the job done. Minus stars because my party ordered 3 meals and I asked for a cup of water but they don't serve water. I've never been to a restaurant that doesn't give out water.

Angelina M.

Yelp
I love this place! I stumbled upon it once and ordered the regular chicken plate and it was amazing, second time I ordered the Asian chicken salad and that was amazing too, the drinks are also on another level, this place is 10 out of 10. One of my go to spots in San Diego.

Pam B.

Yelp
Not sure how this place has 4 stars or what the hype is about. Maybe it's like what others posted, a decline in food quality over the past few years? I've had many different foods in Hawaii and this was just meh. I could have made better at home, family agreed. None of the food here was worth commenting about. It wasn't great but it wasn't awful. Selection/menu was small too. The only thing that was probably 'good' was the garlic shrimp, although batter to create a better texture would be good. Small dinning area and tables were not clean, dirty actually with sauce goo that I had to clean up before sitting. Service was meh as well. Nothing terrible but no hint of friendliness or aloha like on the islands. First time here and probably last sadly.

Joyce L.

Yelp
Yup, Homestyle Hawaiian is still a staple! Their mac salad is some of my favorite. You can even get it ordered for catering size. It's so easy to call in your order and pick-up on the way home. Also add a dirty soda drink, yum!

Terry T.

Yelp
I've been a coming here off and on for the past two years, but after my recent experience, I'll never come back. I accidentally placed an order for the wrong meat (Kalbi instead of Kalua pork) and tried calling immediately to fix the mistake, but the line was constantly busy. When I came, the cashier was a college aged kid wearing his fraternity letters and uggs. He said it was too late to change the order because it was already being cooked. There was no effort to check with the kitchen or find a solution, even after offering to pay for the correct meat. After my girlfriend stepped in, he finally made some effort, but by then, it was too late. I understand it was my mistake, but the lack of flexibility and poor customer service was disappointing. For a place I've enjoyed for a while, this was a huge letdown...

N K.

Yelp
Legit meat; kabli and kalua pork tastes like island style. Must try! Super friendly staff keep the ambiance and flow attractive at this establishment. I'm glad I found this gem.

Carolyn W.

Yelp
Food wasn't bad, and portions are big. This restaurant seems to be a place that accommodates go orders more than dine-in. They do have a small dining area. However, they do not offer water cups, and trash is even located outside -- so it's not very dine in friendly. The teriyaki beef was flavored well but was overcooked and touch to chew. I liked their spicy poke bowl, but it doesn't come with rice, so you'll need to add it on the side for $1.50 That said, food is pretty good and at a good price, so I'll continue coming here to go. I would not recommend dining in, though.

Gigi L.

Yelp
Ordered 2 spam musubis at 2pm on a Sunday The rice was hard like it was overcooked or into the cooker for too long & the spam way too over cooked too Seems pretty hard to mess up but they did

Kaelin A.

Yelp
I loveeee Homestyle Hawaiian! Whenever I drive from SD back to LA, I always make sure to pick some up. The service is always great despite how busy it is. The food is amazing and one of my go to Hawaiian spots in SD. I love getting the Big Braddah combo and the Korean fried chicken! The Korean fried chicken is always sooo crunchy, even after a 3h drive back to LA. There is very limited seating inside so it might be best to take it to go. There is also a small parking lot but I have never really had a hard time finding a spot.

Kaelin F.

Yelp
Terrible. Messed up my order. They won't do anything to fix it, they didn't even apologize. I'm never coming back here I wouldn't recommend this place.

Kaili G.

Yelp
Dirty tables and not busy enough for staff to not be able to do some quick wipe downs. Also - why wouldn't you give your customers cups of water?? 1 plate is almost $20, I don't need to spend additional money to be provided H20 to eat my food in house. As a long time customer, very disappointed in you guys today.

Melinda A.

Yelp
Garlic shrimp is the best here we've eaten her consistently on my coworkers birthday every year since it's her favorite place. Always hits the spot with that same great taste!

Luis R.

Yelp
Do I dare say Homestyle Hawaiian Shrimp scampi is one of the best I have had? Even from the islands? Very delicious, good flavor, lots of sauce and the right amount of spice. Highly recommend, can't wait to taste other items on the menu on later visits.

Tina D.

Yelp
When I am craving Hawaiian food, this is my go to spot! I always get the Korean chicken & it's just perfectly crispy every single time. The sauce is very flavorful as well. Service is always great, however, food can be a bit slow to come out sometimes. I think they make everything fresh so it's worth the wait. The interior is small and cozy. There are only a couple tables but I haven't had trouble finding any seating. my friends ordered the combo plates and mac salad which they said was really good!

Stacy L.

Yelp
I was disappointed that the poke was sold out when I arrived, but I decided to try the garlic shrimp scampi and chicken teriyaki instead. To my delight, both dishes were incredibly flavorful. The shrimp had a robust garlic flavor, and the sauce on the rice was exceptional. I also really enjoyed the mac salad!

Hannah Attika S.

Yelp
Food 4/5 Service 5/5 Ambiance 5/5 Love the food!! We'll make sure to stop by here every time we're in SD. Too bad we don't have this in LA!! Shrimp scampi is seriously garlicky but was lacking in salt but the lava chicken, HEAVENLY!! That sauce something different. Also tried the butterbeer dirty soda, bomb!!

Christina T.

Yelp
Hawaiian take-out spot with MASSIVE portions (enough to share or eat a second meal). I ordered the katsu chicken plate with a side of deep fried musubi. Both were delicious, and I enjoyed the macaroni salad side especially. Their katsu sauce was a little salty for me, so I would go a bit lighter on it next time. The fried musubi is definitely worth trying, and an order comes with two of them so you can share. My partner ordered the big braddah special, which includes 3 of their most popular items. It's great for a little more variety, and he thought each one individually was really good. Last I went this place was mostly a take-out spot. I believe there is a small dining area with some tables and chairs if you'd like to dine in. This place gets fairly busy with takeout orders flying out the door, so if you're not ordering ahead and coming during a rush, you might have to wait.

Madelina N.

Yelp
SO MUCH MEAT!!! I thought this place was so reasonably priced for what you get. Honestly the Teri beef served as two meals for me. The Teri beef ($14) was tasty and lava chicken ($13) crunchy/flavorful. This was our first time trying and we will definitely be back to try more. Boyfriend and I have both lived in Hawaii and this tasted so on par. Service was fast and the staff was very nice, ask them for recommendations!

Rita S.

Yelp
Love, Homestyle Hawaiian! The food here is exceptional! I usually place an order online and pick up. They are always so busy every time I come. They do you have a parking lot so parking is easy and the customer service is the best here! I usually get the mahi-mahi with capers, which is my favorite dish here. Love it! The fish is tender the capers and the white sauce really make this dish. This time I got the.Furikake Salmon, Wow! I have two favorites. Now I don't even know which one I like best. This is a sports bar so it's a little bit loud but not too loud. Definitely one of my favorite Hawaiian restaurants. Will be back soon.

Waldo S.

Yelp
Ono Hawaiian has better quality food than this place. This place doesn't offer any condiments. Asked for Sriracha and they don't offer and for drinks they only have a few canned sodas. Short ribs of low quality, too much nerve on the meat and bone. 1st impression, last impression.

Chanel Y.

Yelp
Finally stopped in after I've heard such great things about this place! The staff was so friendly and the food was ready pretty quickly! I ordered beef Teri and kalua pork and it was soooooo good! It comes with white rice and macaroni salad, I also ordered a peach lemonade. Everything was soooo good! Highly recommend coming through!

Matthew D.

Yelp
Love stopping here after hanging out at the beach. Food is always great and sometimes I'll spoil myself to some hot malasadas. Service is pretty quick and seating is decent. Not a fan of their special drinks but maybe I haven't had the right one! Keep up the great work! Bringing that Hawaii grinds to SD

Gale R.

Yelp
Huge servings and great value! we got both the Katsu chicken with a curry sauce as well as the loco moco with the curry sauce! Delicious and served with the side of macaroni salad as well as two scoops of rice . Definitely enough for a few meals . they have delicious spam musubi . They also have creative lemonades such as mango, strawberry and passionfruit lemonade. Next time we would like to try their dirty sodas.! They have some exciting looking tropical flavors. I love that they serve Dolewhip! Next time I want to try their mahi Mahi or the shrimp scampi! I like to save their macaroni salad and add a can of tuna and peas to make tuna macaroni salad!

Yelp
Call it 4.5 but I'm rounding up. Hawaiian food--which is awesome--is hard to find. It's a terrific, easy to like, cuisine but there just aren't many people cooking up island food. This is a smallish shop but the food has big flavors. You won't leave hungry, either. Free parking in the lot. If I'm eating Hawaiian food, I'm almost always ordering a plate lunch. You can get a plate lunch here with your choice of protein, and rice and macaroni salad. If you're extra hungry, you can also get the lunch with two proteins, The Kahlua Pig is the protein you want to order. It's beyond tender, very juicy and absolutely delicious. I ordered a double protein (Kahlua Pig and Korean chicken) and I got an absolute mountain of meat. The Korean chicken had a nice flavor but was on the dry side. But that Kahlua Pig is outstanding. The mac salad is also terrific. The rice was just fine. We ordered two separate plate lunches but only received one cup of lava sauce (sort of a sweet sauce), so that was a bit of a miss. They also make their own fresh fruit drinks. We tried the mango strawberry lemonade and it was excellent. Overall, you should put this place on your radar. They're serving up some good island food.

Yelp
Impressed! The garlic shrimp scampi is not exactly like the ones in Hawaii (which can be a good thing because Giovanni's is drenched in butter) but it was yummy and filling! Mac salad is yummy as well and try the lilikoi mango lemonade!

Yelp
They serve Dole whip here!!! Ahem.. excuse me. I grew up eating at a local Hawaiian joint back in Long Beach and Homestyle hits that same delicious sweet spot. The katsu here is superb and they always pack it up so you have more than enough to chow on. There's always people waiting for food in the lot so I recommend calling in cuz its always busy!
