5 New London Hotels to Get Excited About in 2021 - AFAR

"A single Grade II–listed, seven-bedroom exclusive-use townhouse in Marylebone with strong Jane Austen connections (Henry Austen lived here and Jane visited). The narrow five-floor house features one staircase, a cozy front lounge, a state-of-the-art kitchen and dining room, and a snug for reading or late-night conversation; rooms are Georgian in style and named for Austen family members (notably the romantic pink-themed Eliza and the chartreuse-accented James). Interiors showcase antiques and Jane Austen first editions, and an on-site manager named Ann delivers warm, highly attentive service that makes the house feel like a private hotel." - Annie Fitzsimmons

Henry's Townhouse, Marylebone, London, UK - Explore & Book

"Just moments from Hyde Park and Oxford Street is this handsome London townhouse, its Georgian facade belonging in a Richard Curtis movie set. We enter through the shiny Downing Street-like door, and within minutes find ourselves laughing and joking with the staff as if old friends. Because when you visit Henry’s Townhouse, that’s exactly what you are: an old chum who has come to rest weary legs after a long day of sightseeing. And what a house to rest in! Designed by husband-and-wife owners Steven and Jane alongside acclaimed interior designer Russell Sage, the decor oozes Regency elegance. Inspired by members of Jane and Henry Austen’s family, each of the 6 rooms is filled with antique furniture, artwork and decadent fabrics, all carefully selected to fit the unique character of this historic address. The magic of the house is in the details. Staff are on hand for any request, big or small. Fancy afternoon tea? No problem. Want to organise a family get-together complete with entertainment? Lean back and enjoy the show! And small gestures like complimentary drinks at ‘Henry’s Hour’ and customisable three-course breakfasts make your stay truly unique. Come with a loved one and revel in the olde English charm, or bring your friends and book out the whole place for one jolly good party. Highs Nestled in the middle of London, close to Paddington, Hyde Park and Marble Arch, this is the perfect base for urban explorersWe really can’t emphasise the attentiveness of the staff enoughThe whole house exudes character; you'll really feel like you've stepped back in time to Georgian London (but with modern conveniences like TVs and A/C)The ‘Snug’, decorated like an old fashioned railway carriage, the two parlours and the roof terrace are perfect for relaxing and entertainingLook out for the first edition Jane Austen novels Lows There is not much in terms of amenities - and anything extra comes with a price tag on top of the already high room pricesBreakfast is served on a large communal table, so you eat with the other guests - if the hotel was full, we can imagine it could become busy quite quicklyThe rooms can be on the small side, with some not getting much natural light - this is typical of London townhouses" - Marta Funk

Follow Jane Austen to her brother’s nest in hustle central London but amazingly peaceful area. The townhouse opens with surprises of highly decorated interior. Every pieces on the wall, space set up are really English style. This boutique hotel is such a charm and never-forget in your trip. 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Stayed here for a weekend trip to London and it was amazing! Staff were so friendly and helpful. Love the historic decor (we picked the place because of the Jane Austen connection) but rooms were still comfortable. And breakfast each morning was fantastic.

I had the most wonderful stay at Henry’s Townhouse for a girls trip to London. The stunning interiors, attention to detail and helpfulness of the staff made it the most fabulous stay for us all and the breakfast was so delicious, the best I’ve had in quite sometime! I will most definitely be back to stay again, it felt like a home away from home & we were so well looked after.

We had a lovely stay here. The decor and accommodations were immaculate and the breakfast every morning was delicious. Anne, Janka and Raphael were friendly and helpful. We hope to return the next time we are in London.

Really lovely place to stay in London. Everything about it was amazing. The staff was so very friendly, helpful, and accommodating. I’ve stayed in so many 5 star hotels in London over the years and this is by far the best experience I’ve had. It was like being home away from home. The breakfast rivals any restaurant that I have been to in London and the chef is friendly, willing to create whatever is possible in the way you’d like it, and happy to chat about his work. The breakfast is just wonderfully thought out, displayed, and set up. The house itself is beautifully maintained, decorated, and kept. Very clean, safe, and smells nice. All around very happy that I took a chance and tried Henry’s. Absolutely will come back.

Stayed for two nights to attend Chelsea Flower Show and celebrated my wife’s 60th birthday. From the minute we arrived we loved Henry’s. Staff and manager (also the owner who popped in) were most welcome and helpful. It’s like staying with old friends or relatives, nothing is too much trouble. Perfectly located and beautifully decorated throughout. If you are a Jane Austin fan it’s not to be missed!

I stayed here in the past month but I am loathe to specify exactly when. I was extremely disturbed by the behaviour and practises of the slightly elderly manager. She was constantly knocking on my door and disturbing me during my stay in the main room in the hotel. Asking me ‘21 questions’ in her words - not mine - about what I was doing in London, completely inappropriate other questions and basically racially profiling me. Not the peace , anonymity and respect i would expect in any hotel, let alone a 5* where I personally paid over a thousand pounds to stay. The other staff were polite but the manager is due some training or is just not for this calibre of establishment.

This is truly an exceptional hotel. We agree that it’s the best hotel we’ve ever stayed in. What strikes one immediately upon arrival, is the stunning beauty of the restoration of this historic property. One feels like living in a period house, with all the furniture, exceptional artwork, cornices, and even period-correct paint. We found our room to be spacious and very comfortable. Everything was designed well and functioned flawlessly. Attention was given to every detail. There were even beautiful flowers in our room and in the bathroom. We could not get five star Rosewood to order flowers for us, despite their promise. The bathroom was beautiful and the bathtub was very comfortable. Breakfast was the best we’ve had in any hotel. Make sure you try all of Larry’s master creations. The dining room itself was simply stunning! But what makes this place even more special, are the people who work there. Ann is the heart of its operations. Conversations with her were the highlights of our visit to the UK. She showered us with kindness and care. We feel truly blessed to have met her. Yanka was outstanding as well. We enjoyed our conversations with her at our sumptuous breakfast. She gave us many tips on traveling in the UK. Larry is an exceptional master chef with a true passion for cooking. He is a true ethnologist of food. His knowledge (not only of food) is so vast, we could have spent days and months talking to him. Hamza was always there to help with anything we asked. He is such an intelligent young man. Words cannot describe how happy we are with our stay and with the people we met.
