My partner and I decided to come here on a Friday night date night, and we were able to book reservations for 8PM through OpenTable. There was a free valet run by this nice guy who took our car quickly. However, when we went to the hostess kiosk, we were told that they didn't have a table for us inside and that we can be seated out on the patio. I was a bit confused because I had thought the reservations would guarantee a table for us, at least indoors. Since it was in the evening we wanted to sit inside, but since we were also starving we relented and agreed to sit on the patio. Once we told the hostess, she then said we can just seat you two upstairs instead. Of course we agreed right away because it was indoors. I just didn't understand why upstairs wasn't offered to us from the get-go.
Anyways, after the whole thing, we got seated at an empty table, and afterwards, no waiter approached us with water or menus for 5 minutes. I could see at the bar upstairs that there was a free waiter just laughing and chatting with the bartender and we even made eye contact a few times, so he knew our table was not attended to. After a bit, the waiter finally came with glasses of water and our menus before walking off.
I am taking off one star for a slightly subpar service from when we enterrés the restaurant to when we got seated.
HOWEVER, our amazing waitress, Zarije, arrived and took care of us the whole evening even though she was busy the entire time! Literally a superwoman who explained ALL the dishes on the menu and the specials. She was friendly and incredibly attentive. My partner and I were extremely grateful for her! Now onto the food!
We ordered the following:
-Fried calamari
-Single House Rib Eye (medium rare)
-Five O'Clock Porterhouse steak (medium rare)
-Grilled asparagus
Boy o BOY. We haven't had steaks like these in YEARS. How lucky are we that a nice steakhouse that's also decently priced is in Milwaukee of all places?! After being in NYC for a few years and regretting not going to any of the century-old steakhouses there, I'm glad to experience something -similar- here after moving to Milwaukee. We first had a house salad with balsamic vinaigrette, then we had the fried calamari which was yummy with the tomato sauce it came with. I just wish the batter stayed on the calamari a bit more since it kept falling apart.
But, ONTO THE STEAKS. The medium rare was perfect for my partner's porterhouse and the charred crust was a cherry on top. My prime rib was delicious with the horseradish aioli but I hoped that I had gotten at least a medium well because the fat would have been melted off more, but it was really delicious nevertheless. The au jus was just *MUAH* (chef's kiss). Perfectly seasoned, not overly salty, and the mushrooms that came with the porterhouse bathed in the sauce were just divine.
Best part is that we had leftovers to bring home and Zarije packed everything right in front of us using plastic baggies that ensured the steaks were absolutely soaked in the au jus so that they don't dry out, which was ingenious really. I never saw steaks being packed that way to go. We can't wait to dig into our leftovers today.
Bottom-line is, if you're looking for a steakhouse in Milwaukee, this is the place to go. I'd note that the service in the beginning might be a bit slow but the waiter/waitress in charge of your table will be fantastic, just like Zarije!
Hope to come back again next time for some Filets and the seafood!!!
