Fireman Derek’s Bake Shop

It's tough to stick to a diet when you see the display of delicious looking desserts here! There are pies, cakes, cookies, bars, ice cream, and other goodies. And it smells so good on top of it all! We did an online order and picked it up. It was ready on time. We didn't have to wait at all. The employee was nice and had our order ready. We ordered a Chocolate Chip cookie, a Magic Bar, a Red Velvet Cake slice, a Cookie Monster pie slice, and a Guava White Chocolate Chip cookie. This will be split with my daughter and slowly eaten over 3 days during Mother's Day weekend. They all look delicious! We lucked out and got a parking spot across the street and walked over. The shop is located in the heart of Coconut Grove where there are lots of shops and restaurants and people. It is always busy in this area. There is a second location in Midtown.

Very poor experience at Farman in Coconut Grove. Matthew, the staff member, was rude from the start. I ordered a simple chocolate and vanilla ice cream for my son. While I was registering for the Rewards app (which they promote), I asked him to give my son the ice cream — under $7 — and I would pay right after. He refused and said, “I won’t give it to you until you pay,” in a very rude tone. I’ve had good service here before with another staff member, but this was unacceptable. Alright Derek’s is awesome and a regular for us…. But recently I bought their ten dollar brownie and got a full corner piece. This feels crazy for a high end shop! Who wants a brownie corner?! I tried to email to let them know but site has no contact info for private feedback.

Delicious cheesecakes and sweets! We tried coconut custard, cookie monster, and red velvet - all were fluffy and just right. The cheesecakes doesn’t taste as heavy as NY cheesecake or as light as Japanese style; but somehow falls in between and just right. Recommend if you’re in the area!

The cookies are thick! I love the balance between a slightly crispy edge but still soft, moist, cookie. I had the white chocolate guava cookie. I like guava but it doesn’t enhance the flavor it kinda adds to the sugar content. They also have pie and cakes I would recommend trying and go back again.

Top cakes in the middle of Coconut Groove! We enjoyed th NY plain cheesecake and a version with oreo (although it was quite hard to cut a piece). We'll come back for the coconut crustard, tres leches and maybe also the ice creams.

This is a little hole in the wall bakery. Their guava cookie is so good. We got one that was right out of the oven and it was so good that I ordered another one! The key lime pie is the best I had! And I love their empanadas! The cafe con leche is excellent here!

Once again, Dereks is the best pie shop around. HOWEVER, now it’s $10 for one single slice. A meager slice at best. Reminds me why I don’t buy nearly as much as I used to. A true miami experience.
