Discover Emmy Squared in the East Village, where Detroit-style pizzas meet pretzel-bun burgers in a spacious, laid-back spot perfect for any occasion.
"What It Is: The new East Village location of one of our favorite pizza spots in the city Perfect For: Casual Weeknight Dinner, First/Early In The Game Dates The original Emmy Squared in Williamsburg serves some of the best pizza and burgers in NYC. So we checked out this new location in the East Village on one of the first nights it was open. The menu of Detroit-style pies here is mostly the same, and the Big Matt burger and spicy pepperoni pizza - two of our favorite things at the original - were both good, though the pizza was a little sauce-heavy. The best dish we had was the only new menu addition, an Indian-inspired white pizza topped with cauliflower and served with some really good tamarind sauce on the side. If you go, try to make a reservation. The Verdict: An exciting addition to the East Village. We’ve added it to our Hit List." - hannah albertine, bryan kim, katherine lewin, hillary reinsberg, chris stang, matt tervooren
"Once upon a time, it was very difficult to get into Emmy Squared - and if you wanted to eat one of their delicious rectangular pizzas, you had to do so at 10pm (or be really good at making reservations). But now this place has been open for a while, and there’s a second location in the East Village. So it’s much easier to get a table. Stop by with a friend, split a burger before your pizza arrives, and plan on taking a long walk after you finish eating." - bryan kim, hillary reinsberg
"There are two things you can expect from an Emmy Squared pizza. First, the thick, fluffy Detroit-style pie with crunchy cheese on the outside is going to be fantastic, and second, you’ll need to retire to the couch immediately after consumption. Delivery is available from their Williamsburg, East Village, and Upper East Side locations." - team infatuation
"We always leave Emmy Squared with mixed feelings. Not because we’ve ever had a bad meal here (quite the opposite), but because we tend to eat so much pizza that we’re incapable of doing much else for the rest of the night. This is all just another way to say that Emmy Squared serves some of our favorite pizza in the city. The Detroit-style pies have a buttery crust that’s covered in melted, slightly-burnt cheese, then topped with things like oily pepperoni and spicy chilies. We also love the burger here, and while it’s $25 on its own, it’s never a mistake to split that and some pizzas with a group." - bryan kim, matt tervooren
"The name of this place refers to the shape of the pizzas and also maybe the fact that this is the second restaurant by the people who own Emily. By all means, get a pizza. Better yet, have the spicy chicken sandwich. But if you’ve had a really rough week, you need to go do downstairs and have a burger. Two patties, pretzel bun, waffle fries. Let’s put it this way: If this burger was getting married, you’d burst into the wedding, shout its name, and end up on a bus together." - bryan kim
