"Longtime Kemp-watchers might remember that the Dorset Square Hotel was Tim and Kit’s first venture, a sort of rough draft for their extremely successful Firmdale Hotels brand." - Mark Fedeli

"At this intimate Marylebone hotel, there’s a unique history that goes beyond its setting in a Regency townhouse, or its location overlooking one of London’s earliest cricket grounds. Of more interest to hotel junkies is the fact that, back in 1985, this was the first hotel opened by Tim and Kit Kemp, who went on to found the much-loved Firmdale Hotels group, which now has properties throughoutLondonandNew York City. Though the couple sold Dorset Square in 2002, they re-bought it in 2012, and gave it a thorough re-do to bring it back to their signature style standard. The 38 rooms now feature modern English décor, complete with individually selected furnishings and eye-catching fabrics, as well as Wi-Fi, iPod docking stations, and granite bathrooms with walk-in showers or bathtubs. The top-tier Marylebone Room kicks it up a notch with grey wool walls and a separate sitting room. Some of the rooms run small, but luckily there are comfy public spaces in which to hang out, including a lovely ground floor library with fireplace, honor bar, and views of the square. The Potting Shed restaurant is both a guest and local favorite for its gourmet menu and all-day afternoon tea, as well as its Chef’s Table dinners and weekend Prosecco Brunch. The team here can also put together a custom picnic hamper, stocked with eats, drinks, and a blanket for enjoying in the square or nearby Regent’s Park."

We had an amazing experience at the Dorset square hotel. We stayed for two nights with family for our wedding & also booked the private drawing room for our wedding breakfast. The rooms were clean and had gorgeous decor. Our wedding three course meal (via the potting shed) was delightful. Luca and the team went above and beyond during our stay & catered to all my wedding needs without issues! I can’t fault the effort and hospitality. I’d highly recommend.

I have found my new home away from home! We just had our first stay at Dorset Square Hotel and it is an oasis. Tucked near the hustle and bustle of Marylebone High Street and quick access to two tube stops, it is actually in a quiet neighborhood, with Regent Park and Primrose Hill in walking distance. Having stayed in several other hotels in London, the rooms are actually quite spacious in comparison. The bathroom has all of the products one might need while traveling, including heated towel racks, a great, modern showerhead and forceful water pressure. The Kit Kemp decor, which has been recently updated, is bright and tasteful and the colorful cloth bag that comes with each room is quite a useful souveneir, perfect for carrying purchases and extra coats around town. Someone even stopped me to ask where I got the bag! Not having an elevator on one side of the hotel made the room quiet and there were plenty of folks willing to carry bags to the room. Irfan was unbelievably helpful on several occasions and the whole staff is knowledgeable about the area and willing to assist in any way. I didn't try the Potting Shed until the last day, but wish I had sooner! I would like to keep this hidden gem to myself, but I have to sing their praises and wish I could give them 10 stars!

We absolutely loved staying at the Dorset Square Hotel! First of all, the location is tops. Marlyebone is a wonderful neighborhood with lots of shops and restaurants and very accessible to the tube.||The hotel is pristine. It is a small townhouse hotel that is beautifully decorated as all fFirmdale hotels are. Truly, one of a kind! The staff is lovely and so helpful. Shout out to Abigail, Marina, Aaron, Giulia, Tasha and Miriam. They all took great care of us. ||The rooms are super comfortable. The bed was heaven. Shower was amazing. We love the products! I love the decor. The housekeeping was immaculate. At turndown, they give you | cold water, which is really nice. ||We ate breakfast at the Potting Shed restaurant on site most days. The food is incredible here. The yogurt/fruit bar is absolutely delicious and they make homemade omelettes, pancakes, whatever you desire. Breakfast was a great way to start the day.!||The access accessibility via tube right on the block was huge. We also ate at many area restaurants while we were there… Recommended by hotel staff. ||Can’t say enough good things about this hotel or location… We will definitely be back ❤️

My partner and I had a wonderful afternoon tea with close family following our wedding at Old Marylebone Town Hall. From start to finish the Dorset Square Hotel was super professional, helpful and organised. We hired the Drawing Room for afternoon tea, and were so impressed with the lovely food, drinks and service. I couldn't fault them! We stayed for the evening in Room 15 - a recently updated suite with stunning interiors and a beautiful bed - bliss! Thank you so much to Luca and the team for a super special day of lovely memories - we would recommend highly to other couples getting married down the road as the perfect place to go after!

I picked the same hotel again just six months after my last stay, and that says a lot about how much I enjoyed it! This cozy spot has such personal touches, and the staff are incredibly friendly. Plus, it’s perfectly located next to the metro and close to the London Business School, which is great if you’re visiting for the same reason. Definitely coming back! Thank you so much!

We stayed in several Firmdale Hotels and this is the original one. It is a small but excellent hotel with very attentive staff with a personal touch. You feel at home and the location is great. It is only one stop with the Jubilee line from Baker Street to Bond street. Breakfast was excellent. Overal an exceptional good hotel as can be expected from a Firmdale hotel.

I try to stay exclusively at Firmdale hotels while in the UK and have been to most in London. This by far is the least impressive. Yes it has all the fine touches of the Kit Kemp properties such as providing an absolutely cozy and inviting guest room with luxurious smells throughout (with help from their most amazing pillow mist and custom products in the bathroom).||||The GREATS include comfortable beds, furnishings and smart reactive televisions of a good size. Fluffy both large and small towels on a heat rack in the bathroom, powerful showers with plenty of hot water flowing and an ample amount of wall outlets and USB2 ports. The rooms are virtually sound proofed and it's just a lovely hotel chain overall. I loved the location being so close to Regents Park, Baker Street and across from Dorset Square Park - although not many rooms offer views of any sort.||||The Not So Greats at this property include much smaller rooms than the other Firmdales in London with some super small, lots of stairs with lifts not reaching most of the floors, although the rooms are sound proofed - they're apparently not for the continually running tube trains that must be below the hotel as the Marylebone Station is just one block away. This constant noise and slight rumbling ends around 11P and starts as early as 6A. It was a bit unnerving so keep that in mind if you want/need to sleep in at all. This property overall is super small - like extreme boutique which means it doesn't offer a lot of additional amenities - no doorman, no bell staff and small doorways to walk through. The Honor Bar room is tiny as compared to the other properties and I found guests sitting in the hallways taking calls or working on their laptops for some reason. Super odd. The room cost is on par with their other properties which is a bit obscene as you are definitely not getting the same level of overall property.||||That said, it's still a nice property and if you need to be on this side of London, you'll likely still enjoy your stay as long as you realize the points addressed above.

Yelp
I have the opportunity to be the first to review this hotel. But I'm really torn because I don't really want to publicize it to the "world". But I know that it will show up sooner or later on Yelp. I also know that it is possible that someone with less experience, love and affection for this place might write a review before me, and I think that would be bad. So here goes. The Dorset Square accounts for 90 percent of my relatively frequent stays in London. It is classified as a "small luxury hotels" and is located in Marylebone (pronounced mar*le*bon) which has really become a desirable neighborhood in the past decade. It's just down the street from Marylebone Station so getting around is very convenient. Baker Street Underground is just a couple of blocks away as well. There are 25 or so rooms on 4 floors - each is different. Some are very small, others are larger. All very distinct. Door knobs are in the center of the doors, floors creek. Showers are marble and chrome and the water pressure is outrageous - meaning huge, awesome, over the top. A steamy shower after a long day in London is pure luxury. The staff is friendly, but not over bearing. The sitting area is small and inviting. The Potting Shed Restaurant on the bottom floor with a bar is adequate. I have only ever eaten breakfast there and it is fine. The hotel has a history as it is right across the street from a historic cricket field that is now a garden area - guests of the hotel have access. There is a portrait in the reception area of a woman that stays with you over the years and when you go back, you remember. Anyone reading this who has been there will know what I mean. They used to rent apartments that are along the street just below ground level (skylights - don't worry). One of them was frequented by Roy Orbison and it had a grand piano. It was called the Roy Orbison Suite. I have spent many nights at this hotel and it, more than any other accommodation in the world feels like a home away from home with an uncanny familiarity whenever I return.

Yelp
Quiet location , excellent throughout. Front desk very helpful. Rooms quite cozy. After a 42 day journey through all of Europe, I would rate this as one of the very few excellent spots I have visited. The fact that they spoke excellent English was very helpful The entire hotel has a homelike ambiance that is full of charm. The chef and waiter staff were very accommodating .

Yelp
Do you like to overpay to stay in a closet with little amenities such as a having a gym? Well, I have the place for you. It's called the Dorset Square Hotel. Coming from NYC, I'm used to residing in small spaces, but this is pathetic. My apartment is nicer than this, but they charge 250 euro or $297 usd a night. Nice details, but absurd square footage and lame common areas.

Yelp
While the staff is nice and its a quiet/boutique hotel, I wasn't happy staying here. Upon checking in, I had my partner with me and the reception gave us a hard time and we had to change the booking because the room couldn't accommodate two people for "security reasons." I was certainly frustrated with this and the extra effort caused me to be late for a dinner. After we changed the booking, we were taken to our "double superior room" which was the smallest room I've ever seen ( and I live in NYC)! I could not believe that the "single room" apparently is smaller and has a "single bed." This perhaps would all be fine if the nightly rate was lower. However, the prices they charge are absurd! They have the audacity to charge more than the Landmark Hotel for a fraction of the room and amenities. There is no gym, no business center. Nothing. You pay an unacceptable rate to stay in a closet. They eventually upgraded me to a bigger room, but even this was unacceptable and too small for me to stay inside and do work before meetings. I'd give this place negative stars if I could. They need to dramatically lower their prices or remodel to be competitive. My advice- don't stay here!
