"Dinkel's, Lakeview. Dinkel's is the kind of place that your mom might've taken you to as a kid. And you no doubt would've remembered it. With it's distinct neon and pink interior, the Lincoln Avenue bakery in West Lakeview is hard to miss. Since 1922, they've been churning out donuts, pastries, cakes and any number of other baked goods to grinning clientele. They also offer breakfast sandwiches and coffee if sweets aren't your thing. This kind of shop is a dying breed, but there's little worry that Dinkel's is going anywhere soon."

Shame this place must go but all good things must come to an end I guess. Came in an hour early before they open to beat the lines and was glad I did it. Doughnuts were great they were flavorful and the pastries were amazing but scarce since everyone is buying a lot at once. Spent a little over $54 for 2 dozen donuts and 2 pastries and is probably worth it since they'll be closing down soon forever. Wish I knew more about this place beforehand.

Closes permanently 30APR2022, got my last box of goodies. The donuts are not overly sweet but has that old world recipe for light, cakey donuts. But I was most impressed by the chocolate croissant. They did not skimp on the chocolate. Cheese danish was flaky and substantial. This place will be missed.

Dinkels is solid! Had a paczi that was deliciously decadent and rich, along with a fresh salt pretzel. I love their sandwiches and that they use a number system for service. It was quite packed when we were there but the staff were polite, helpful, and quick. Disappointed in their kings cake, as it comes boxed and is starchy and not fresh.

My daughter started working there 2 months ago. And now they are closing after 101 years. So sad. A great Chicago tradition "Gone With the Wind". Mr. Dinkel, I hope you enjoy your retirement. You've earned it...

I had a couple pieces of strudel at the Kringle Mart downtown. It was very good (although it was 4 dollars a slice). I decided to take a ride to the bakery on Sunday morning and buy some, only to discover that you can only buy it frozen. I was surprised at that and decided to buy one anyway. After defrosting the cake I found it to be below standard. I was a fan of the slices at the Kringle market, but not a fan at the frozen bakery item I purchased at the store. It was dry and did not taste the same. BEWARE KRINGLE MART buyers.

Very good German bakery that has been around for many years and has become a staple in the community. They make some delicious cookies, upside down pineapple cakes, donuts, bread and plenty of other pastries. They also have a section to the left side as you walk in, where they sell breakfast and lunch sandwiches. If you go right before they close for the day, ask them or look for the items that are heavily discounted. They only have street parking, so if you go late, make sure you allow time for finding a parking spot.

What a very cute and nostalgic little spot in the most beautiful neighborhood. These were some of the most unique donuts I have ever had. They were very dense and like chewy. They were very different BUT very good!! I will be back to try their bear claws because they looked really good and I have never had one. Worth trying but like almost $2 a donut so kind of pricey.

Dinkel's is a Chicago Landmark, with wonderful Bakery items all handmade with care!. The apple strudel was flaky and crispy, the carrot cake cupcakes we bought were moist and flavorful and the donuts were fresh and out of this world. I remember coming here as a child and the wonderful bakery items we got today brought back happy memories. Dinkel's Bakery is highly recommended! It is also very easy to park right in front of their Bakery for up to 15 minutes as long as you leave your blinkers on, that is an excellent feature. Their cakes for special occasions are absolutely gorgeous!
