Nestled in Koreatown, this smoky, old-school tavern serves Korean small plates and soju until 2 a.m., creating an unforgettable late-night escape.
"Some call this Korean pub on Telegraph Avenue by its name, Dan Sung Sa. Others call it the “Porno Bar,” allegedly referring to the racy movie posters plastered on the walls. Whatever you call it, this Oakland favorite has divey, soju-bang vibes, and it’s the perfect place to stumble in for Korean-style street food like corn cheese, spicy fried chicken, tteokbokki (spicy rice cakes), and seafood pajeon (seafood pancake). Wash it all down with a refreshing XL bottle of Hite or a pitcher of soju cocktails, if you dare. Open until midnight every day and 1 a.m. on the weekends." - Lena Park
"There’s really nothing quite like Dan Sung Sa at midnight on a Saturday. The dark, all-wood tavern is jam-packed, the smoke from the central grill fills every corner, and everyone is drinking soju like it’s the last batch in the world. In short, it’s a chaotic dreamscape and one of our favorite late-night spots in the city. The large menu is full of skewers, scallion pancakes, and other classic Korean bar food, and all of it is exactly what your body needs to soak up an evening’s worth of alcohol. A word of advice: When they say ”spicy,” they mean it." - brant cox, nikko duren, sylvio martins
"This Korean tavern in Ktown is late-night LA canon. It's where one hour turns into three in the blink of an eye. Meats sizzle and knives scrape on the central grill. Smoke hangs over the dark, wooden booths, and groups of friends pound Hite with an exorbitance typically reserved for the end of the world. As for the food, the menu has over 100 different anju designed for snacking while you drink. We recommend loading up on kimchi pancakes, sweet and spicy tteokbokki, and more skewers than you can adequately count. If you don't want to wait an hour (or more), arrive before 8pm. "This North Korean-style dive bar has the exact ambiance one would expect at a low-key place in Pyongyang — and that's a good thing. The menu is far better than standard pub fare with skewers, wings, savory pancakes, and plenty of other drinking grub. Order a crisp Korean lager or an ice-cold bottle of soju until 2 a.m. every night of the week." - Eater Staff, Matthew Kang
