"Some restaurants, the moment you walk in, have a way of transporting you to another world - Dan Sung Sa is one such place. The painted exterior features a prominent mural of Kim Jong Il welcomes you, the Korean papers plastered on the walls will make it easy to imagine you're out in Seoul. It's THE classic late night spot (what with their flexible closing policy) to gorge yourself on izakaya-style small plates and throw back soju under dim lighting as you stare up at scrawled notes on the walls and plumes of smoke creeping in from the bbq at the center of the bar. Get cozied up with friends while you eat and drink (stand-out menu items include crispy fried chicken and rice cakes simmering in spicy broth) – you'll see many of their Korean late-night regulars crowded wooden booths doing the same." - The HR Dept
"On any given night, with the smell of grilled skewers in the air, Dan Sung Sa can feel like the center of Koreatown. This dark, all-wood tavern is regularly jam-packed with dates, coworkers, and concertgoers looking for warm food after a show at The Wiltern. We should note that ordering alcohol is mandatory here, but that’s usually not an issue since Dan Sung Sa’s menu pairs perfectly with cold beer. The giant kimchi pancakes are extra thin and crispy, the tteokbokki with ramen comes in a sweet-spicy gochujang sauce that burns your lips, and we’ve never met a skewer here we didn’t like, including the beef short rib, sweet scallop, and cartilage-y chicken gizzard." - sylvio martins, brant cox, garrett snyder, cathy park
"This Korean tavern in Ktown is late-night LA canon. It's where one hour turns into three in the blink of an eye. Meats sizzle and knives scrape on the central grill. Smoke hangs over the dark, wooden booths, and groups of friends pound Hite with an exorbitance typically reserved for the end of the world. As for the food, the menu has over 100 different anju designed for snacking while you drink. We recommend loading up on kimchi pancakes, sweet and spicy tteokbokki, and more skewers than you can adequately count. If you don't want to wait an hour (or more), arrive before 8pm." - brant cox, sylvio martins, cathy park
"Much like the vintage couch we paid way too much money for, Dan Sung Sa is one of a kind. The dark, all-wood tavern has a big tent in their front parking lot, smoke from the central grill hanging like mist over the tables inside, and a crowd that’s pounding Hite like it’s their last night on Earth. The whole scene is a beautiful, drunken dreamscape–perfect for when you want to hang out somewhere other than your living room on a rainy day. There’s also a large menu full of skewers, kimchi pancakes, and other excellent dishes you can snack on while you’re here." - nikko duren
"There’s really nothing quite like Dan Sung Sa on a Saturday night. The dark, all-wood tavern is jam-packed, the smoke from the central grill fills every corner, and everyone is drinking soju like it’s the last batch in the world. In short, it’s a chaotic dreamscape. The large menu is full of skewers, scallion pancakes, and other excellent Korean bar food, all of which is designed to hold off your inevitable hangover." - sylvio martins, cathy park
