Crisp is a laid-back Lakeview joint serving twice-fried Korean chicken wings drizzled in the must-try Seoul Sassy sauce, plus tasty burritos and veggie bowls.
"With a name like Crisp, their KFC (“Korean fried chicken,” not to be confused with the poultry from a certain colonel) better be, well, crispy. But not only does this casual BYOB spot in Lakeview know how to fry up a bird—twice-fried for added crunch—they also know how to properly sauce one, thoroughly coating each jumbo wing in their housemade BBQ, buffalo, or Seoul Sassy. The latter is our favorite, a sticky, sweet soy sauce-based glaze that’s gingery, garlicky, and worth the mountain of paper towels you’ll need after. And when we say these wings are jumbo, we mean it—an order of five, if not three, counts as a whole meal." - john ringor, adrian kane
"You can’t have a “best chicken wing” list without Crisp. They are known for their Korean jumbo wings, and they are good. Located in Northhalsted (formally Boystown), Crisp is always busy. They have four flavors to choose from, and, because they’re all great, the decision is hard. That said, we always pick the sweet, Seoul Sassy sauce. Now say that 5 times fast." - adrian kane, phaithe norman, john ringor
"The only thing better than eating wings with a cold beer is eating jumbo wings with cold beer. And that reality exists at Crisp, one of the best fried chicken spots in Chicago. This Lakeview restaurant specializes in large, Korean fried chicken wings, so an order of five qualifies as a meal. True to the restaurant name, each bite is perfectly crispy, and they have plenty of sauces to choose from, like spicy BBQ or the sweet and garlicky Seoul Sassy. The casual space isn’t that big, but there are a decent amount of counter seats, as well as large picnic tables perfect for splitting a six-pack with friends. "For the ultimate sauced chicken wings, Crisp is king. Three sauces — barbecue, a housemade marinade called Seoul Sassy, and Buffalo — are available, or diners can opt to keep them plain. The Seoul Sassy is the crowd favorite, made with soy, garlic, and ginger and tossed with crunchy scallions. The jumbo-sized wings boast a shatteringly crispy exterior, and diners would do well to make it a double order. Online orders can be placed here." - Eater Staff, Ashok Selvam
"Crisp is an unassuming counter-service restaurant, possibly with an identity crisis. It's a Korean menu at it's core – but they also serve sandwiches, burritos, french fries and wings. The common thread is of course the chicken; fried, acclaimed and covered in your choice of sauce. When I lived nearby, I walked by this no frills orange storefront a dozen times before my interest was piqued by the always packed interior. And after one visit, it's easy to see why. You cannot go wrong with this menu, plus it's BYOB. The bowls are great, the sandwiches and wings are even better. Opt for the house "sassy" sauce (seriously) and wait for a seat to open up at one of the communal tables." - Studio Malt
